F.B.I. Raids Los Angeles Schools Chief’s Home and District Headquarters
F.B.I. agents executed search warrants at the locations. The target of their investigation was unclear.
F.B.I. agents raided the headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District and the home of its superintendent on Wednesday, federal authorities said.
F.B.I. officials said that the agency was executing search warrants at the school district and at the home of the superintendent, Alberto Carvalho, but that the accompanying affidavits had been sealed by the court. They did not elaborate on the target of the investigation.
Neither the district nor Mr. Carvalho immediately responded to requests for comment.
The superintendent clashed with federal authorities in the past over immigration enforcement efforts at school sites in Los Angeles Unified, which is the nation’s second-largest school district and the largest in California.
Last year, after Homeland Security Investigations agents had been turned away from two Los Angeles elementary schools where they said they were conducting welfare checks on undocumented students, Mr. Carvalho condemned their actions at a news conference that drew national attention.
Explaining his impassioned response, Mr. Carvalho, a native of Portugal, said that as a young man, he had for a time been undocumented for a time in this country.

Canada pledges food aid for Cuba as US fuel blockade continues
Canada announced Wednesday it is sending $8 million Canadian (US$6.7 million) in food aid to people in Cuba as the island faces an escalating fuel crisis as oil shipments have slowed following U.S. threats of tariffs.
Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand said she not discuss Canada’s aid intentions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio or the other U.S. officials.
“This is Canadian foreign policy,” he said. “We are focused on the humanitarian situation.”
The funding will be delivered through United Nations agencies instead of the Cuban government.
