A week after Bill Gates abruptly pulled out as a keynote speaker at a high-profile global AI summit in India, the left-wing billionaire finally mustered enough nerve to "take responsibility for his actions" over his ties to late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during a town hall meeting with Gates Foundation employees.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Gates told employees at a town hall event for the foundation on Tuesday that he never spent time with Epstein's victims, and never visited Epstein's island.

He revealed that Epstein later learned about two affairs he had with Russian women, but said those relationships did not involve Epstein's victims. Gates said photos in the Epstein files show him with redacted women were taken by Epstein's assistants after meetings.

"I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit," Gates emphasized, according to a recording reviewed by WSJ journalists.

Gates continued, "To be clear, I never spent any time with victims, the women around him."

"It was a huge mistake to spend time with Epstein" and bring Gates Foundation executives into meetings with the sex offender, Gates said, adding, "I apologize to other people who are drawn into this because of the mistake that I made."

Last week, the $86 billion philanthropic body's last-minute decision to yank Gates was a major embarrassment and came as the Epstein fallout worsened, with many high-profile people under fire.

Since February 24, Russian forces have launched around 60 drones targeting gas infrastructure in the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions.

According to Ukrinform, the Naftogaz Group reported this.

“For two days, strikes on gas storage facilities and production assets in the Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions have continued non-stop. In total, the enemy deployed around 60 attack drones,” the company said in a statement.

1st Ukrainian drone factory starts production in UK, Zaluzhnyi says

The first Ukrainian defense plant in the U.K., Ukrspecsystems, has begun operations, producing drones that have "long proven their effectiveness in high-tech warfare," Ukraine's Ambassador to the U.K. and former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi announced on Feb. 25.

Without specifying the types of drones being produced, Zaluzhnyi said the launch of Ukrainian drone company Ukrspecsystems' production in the U.K. has "a deep strategic logic" for integration into the British defense industry.

U.K. Defence Journal reported in September 2025 that Ukrspecsystems, which it described as Ukraine's largest drone manufacturer, has committed a 200 million-pound (nearly $270 million) investment to build a factory and a test and training site in eastern England.

"This is not a shift of the center of gravity away from Ukraine," Zaluzhnyi, the former Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, said in his Telegram post.

"It is an expansion of our joint capabilities and the creation of a second line of defense that guarantees continuity of production."

The announcement comes as Ukrainian defense companies ramp up production domestically despite the threat of Russian missiles and drones.

Trying to gather more funds to boost production, many such companies are cooperating with Western partners in exchange for knowledge and battlefield experience.

"Our engineers are creating solutions that are born directly from frontline experience. They are improving systems not based on theoretical research, but on the results of real combat applications," Zaluzhnyi said.

Ukrspecsystems had not released a statement on its website about the launch of production in the U.K. at the time of publication.

Among the drones that Ukrspecsystems produces are Shark reconnaissance drones, praised by Ukrainian officials for their effectiveness despite the cost.

"We are creating a new quality of partnership, where allies not only support each other but also form a common industrial security base," Zaluzhnyi said.

Two vehicles were also set on fire, and another had its windows smashed, left-wing activists said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society later said four residents of the village were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene of the attack.

Israeli security forces were eventually dispatched to the scene, although the flames had died down by that point, and no arrests were made.

The far-right pundit, who has used his show to slam Israel and lean into friendly interviews with conspiracy theorists and white nationalists, was seen at the White House this week

Jewish figures on the far right are increasingly expressing concerns about President Donald Trump’s handling of a rift over antisemitism in the Republican party, after Tucker Carlson reportedly visited the White House for the third time in weeks on Monday.

Of late, Carlson has increasingly used his show to criticize Israel and lean into friendly interviews with conspiracy theorists and white nationalists, including Nick Fuentes. This week’s White House visit, reported by Punchbowl News, came days after Carlson’s combative interview with Trump’s ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee, which ignited antisemitism allegations and a diplomatic row with Arab leaders.

After the Huckabee interview, Carlson also appeared on Saudi state-owned TV, in an appearance where he called the Gaza war a “land grab” for Israel, and repeated his past claims that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “evil and destructive.” Carlson has ties with both Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where he has said he intends to buy property and has hosted high-profile events.

Laura Loomer, a far-right Jewish activist, has staked out a warpath against Carlson’s continued access to the Trump administration.

“It seems like a suicide mission for any Christian or Jew who doesn’t idolize Hitler to keep donating to the GOP,” Loomer posted on X late Monday. In a follow-up, she wrote, “It’s like I woke up one day and 90% of the people I’ve come to know on the right over the last 10 years have morphed into different people.”

Loomer’s explosion of anger and angst is significant because she has boasted of close ties to Trump and has appeared to hold some sway over White House hiring. In the past, when she has targeted administration staffers or potential hires, many have been spiked quickly. Now, as she raises alarms about Carlson and antisemitism on the right, the White House has remained silent.

“It’s shocking that I have to say this, but the GOP has a major identity crisis right now, the GOP has a growing Jew hate and foreign influence problem, and the party seems to be in a struggle session with Neo Nazis who they aren’t explicitly rejecting,” Loomer posted on X. “My advice is for people to not donate at this time till we get clarity from the party on what the party’s position is on these issues.”

US Justice Department withheld allegations against Trump from Epstein files, NPR finds

Investigation finds that FBI interviews with a woman who alleged Trump sexually and physically assaulted her as a minor were missing from Epstein database, in violation of law

The United States Department of Justice withheld and prevented the release of several documents from the Jeffrey Epstein files that contained allegations of sexual assault of a minor by US President Donald Trump, according to an investigation carried out by US media outlet NPR.

The probe, which was subsequently backed up by an independent CNN review, found that among the withheld files were several interviews with a woman who alleged that Trump had sexually assaulted her decades earlier when she was a minor.

The decision to withhold the documents would appear to be a violation of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which mandated that all of the documents relating to convicted sex offender Epstein be made public by December 19, although in reality, millions were only released weeks later.

The three missing interviews are among more than 50 pages of FBI witness interviews that have been withheld from the public despite appearing to have been catalogued by the DOJ, the NPR probe found. The accompanying notes from the conversations are missing as well.

The same woman also accused Epstein of repeatedly assaulting her, starting when she was 13 years old. Unlike the documents concerning her allegations against Trump, the FBI interview in which she accuses Epstein of sexual assault was among the millions of documents released to the public.

With the FBI interviews missing from the database, NPR found that the only publicly available mentions of the allegations she leveled against Trump were in copies of the FBI list of claims and in an internal DOJ presentation dated August 2025.

The contents of the presentation were first reported by independent journalist Roger Sollenberger on February 15.

The allegation against Trump appears on a page in the slideshow titled “Prominent Names,” with the name and identifying details of the accuser redacted.

“[Redacted] stated Epstein introduced her to Trump who subsequently forced her head down to his exposed penis which she subsequently bit,” the text reads. “In response, Trump punched her in the head and kicked her out.”

The presentation places the alleged assault as having taken place sometime between 1983 and 1985, when the victim was 13-15 years old.

A separate accusation against Trump by a different woman is detailed directly below the first item.

“[Redacted] remember Epstein introduced her to Trump saying ‘This is a good one, huh’ and Trump responded ‘Yes,'” the presentation reads, adding that this incident took place in 1984 when the victim was 14 years old.

According to Sollenberger, the second claim in particular “carries immense credibility” within the DOJ as it came from a government witness whose testimony was instrumental in convicting Ghislaine Maxwell, a close Epstein associate found guilty of sex trafficking in 2022.

Although the DOJ presentation is the only publicly available mention of the first woman’s allegations against Trump, NPR said it had found what could be the origin of the withheld interviews through a review of FBI case file logs and discovery material provided to Maxwell’s attorneys during her trial.

The discovery material comprised 15 documents, NPR said, but only seven of them were later released as part of the Epstein files database.

The interview in which the woman accused Epstein of assaulting her as a minor was among the material given to Maxwell’s legal team and later made public, leading NPR to assess that the withheld interviews and accompanying notes were likely included in the discovery material but not in the Epstein files database.

Iranian Foreign Minister: Iran Will Never Develop a Nuclear Weapon

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday reaffirmed Iran’s long-standing position that it does not seek nuclear weapons and will never develop them. The comments come as Trump administration officials threaten war over claims Tehran may be pursuing a bomb, even as President Trump insists he already “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program.

Aragchi made the remarks in a post on X where he referenced upcoming talks with the US in Geneva and said Iran was ready for a deal with the US while also affirming Tehran’s right to enrich uranium for civilian purposes.

“Our fundamental convictions are crystal clear: Iran will under no circumstances ever develop a nuclear weapon; neither will we Iranians ever forgo our right to harness the dividends of peaceful nuclear technology for our people,” Araghchi wrote on X.

“We have a historic opportunity to strike an unprecedented agreement that addresses mutual concerns and achieves mutual interests. A deal is within reach, but only if diplomacy is given priority,” he added.

Later in the day, Fox News host Brett Baier said that President Trump told him that Iran “desperately wants a deal” but claimed Tehran “just can’t say the sacred phrase ‘we won’t build nuclear weapons’” despite Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s long-standing fatwa against developing nuclear weapons. Trump reaffirmed his claim on Tuesday night when delivering his State of the Union.

Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, who is leading the negotiations, also made a similar claim in an interview that aired over the weekend. “Why, under this sort of pressure, with the amount of seapower, naval power, that we have over there, why they haven’t come to us and said, ‘we profess that we don’t want a [nuclear] weapon, so here’s what we’re prepared to do,’ yet it’s hard to get them to that point,” Witkoff said.

The US envoy also made the false claim that Iran could be a “week away” from having material to develop a nuclear bomb, even though there’s no sign Iran is able to enrich uranium at the moment, following the US strikes on its nuclear facilities in June 2025.

Other senior Trump officials, including Vice President JD Vance, have framed the potential attack on Iran as related to the prospect of Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon. But President Trump continues to say he destroyed the Iranian nuclear program, and hasn’t provided a coherent reason for why he is preparing to launch a major war in the Middle East.

Hungary to deploy troops against potential ‘Ukrainian attacks’

Budapest has ordered units to guard critical infrastructure sites in areas bordering Ukraine amid the Druzhba oil pipeline standoff

Hungarian Prime MinisterViktor Orban has ordered military units and additional police to guard energy infrastructuresites in his country’s east, citing the threat of potential Ukrainian attacks.

Orban announced the deployment on Wednesday amid the continuing standoff between Budapest and Kiev over the Soviet-era Druzhba pipeline, which until recently carried Russian crude to Hungary and Slovakia via Ukraine.

The pipeline went offline in late January, with Kiev claiming it was damaged in Russian strikes, which Moscow has denied.Both Hungary and Slovakia have accused Ukraine of deliberately withholding supplies for political reasons, threatening retaliation.

Announcing the move, Orban cited intelligence obtained by the country’s security services about the potential attacks and stressed thatHungary “cannot be blackmailed” by Kiev.

California Allocates $35 Million To Aid Illegal Immigrants

California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration has boosted support for illegal immigrants in response to the federal government’s escalated law enforcement and deportation operations under President Donald Trump.

The new support includes $35 million in existing humanitarian funding for basic needs and legal aid. The money is in addition to $125 million already allocated for “free” immigration-related legal services, the governor’s office said in a statement.

“While the federal government targets hardworking families, California stands with them—uniting partners and funding local communities to help support their neighbors,” Newsom said in a statement.

“The urgent need grows as the Trump Administration accelerates mass detention, tramples due process, and funds authoritarian enforcement with over $170 billion. As the Trump Administration chooses cruelty and chaos, California chooses community.”

The funding will not be cash payouts but instead will go to philanthropic and nonprofit organizations that will help connect illegal immigrants facing deportation to legal services, food assistance, and other aid.

The White House and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) did not immediately return a request for comment.

Assemblymember Carl DeMaio, a Republican serving communities in east San Diego County, criticized the new funding.

“If you were audited by the IRS and found to owe money and back taxes, as a citizen, you couldn’t say, ‘Well, I want a free lawyer to fight the federal government,’” DeMaio told CalMatters.

Israel Defense Forces troops from the 300th “Baram” Regional Brigade conducted multiple raids in southern Lebanon over recent months, destroying Hezbollah observation and firing posts equipped with anti-tank missile launchers, the military announced.

The operations were part of ongoing efforts to prevent the Iran-backed militant group from re-arming and rebuilding infrastructure south of the Litani River, in violation of the November 2024 ceasefire agreement, the IDF said.

Chinese Defense Labs Exploit Nearly $1 Billion In US Research Funds, Report Says

Nearly $1 billion in U.S. federal research funds have been funneled into projects involving the Chinese regime’s defense laboratories that pose “critical risks” to America’s national security, according to a new study.

The report, released by the Center for Research Security and Integrity (CRSI) on Feb. 19, identifies nearly 1,800 research papers published between January 2019 and July 2025 that involve U.S. collaborations with Chinese defense laboratories.

About one-third of the articles specifically credited U.S. federal funding for the research. The topics of these projects ranged from directed energy systems and energetic materials to radar and sensing, artificial intelligence, flexible electronics, and high-performance computational physics.

“These are critical technology fields that can fundamentally change future military and warfighting capabilities, yet PRC defense laboratories are directly benefiting from this research,” analysts wrote in the report, using the acronym of the Chinese communist regime’s official name, the People’s Republic of China.

The report estimates the total value of these research projects at approximately $943.5 million, noting that the figure could be much higher due to ambiguities in certain research grants and facility contracts.

Jeffrey Stoff, founder of the Virginia-based nonprofit CRSI and co-author of the report, said the U.S. government and academia “lack the will, resources, or priorities” to effectively safeguard its research and innovation.

“This is largely because there are very few regulations that restrict such collaborations. In other words, research-performing organizations, including government laboratories, are not concerned with protecting national interests, even when the research is funded by taxpayers,” Stoff told The Epoch Times via email.

Ukraine and Russia should refrain from striking each other’s decision-making centers, Vladimir Zelensky’s newly appointed chief of staff, Kirill Budanov, has said. His comments come weeks after Kiev launched a drone attack on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Valdai, and as Moscow has reportedly ruled out similar strikes on Ukrainian leadership targets.

In an interview with RBK-Ukraine published on Tuesday, Budanov – who previously served as the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR) – said he opposes such strikes andthat “it doesn’t matter whether we are talking about Kiev or, say, Valdai.Especially now, when a difficult process of peace negotiations is underway.”

Budanov is wanted in Russia on terrorism charges for allegedly masterminding over 100 attacks on Russian soil, including the 2022 Crimean Bridge explosion which killed four people.

The Kremlin described the incident as a “terrorist act” aimed at derailing peace efforts and undermining US President Donald Trump’s mediation. Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson suggested the timing – coinciding with Zelensky’s visit to the US – indicated the attack may have been staged by domestic opponents to sabotage negotiations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has shown restraint regarding strikes on Ukrainian leadership centers, according to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. Mandelson’s Lawyers Say His Arrest Was Prompted by ‘Baseless Suggestion’ He Was a Flight Risk

Lawyers for Peter Mandelson, the former U.K. ambassador to the U.S., have argued his arrest was “prompted by a baseless suggestion” he was set to flee and “take up permanent residence abroad.”

“There is absolutely no truth whatsoever in any such suggestion,” said a spokesperson for Mishcon De Reya, Mandelson's law firm, on Tuesday evening.KEK, that sounds true in the UK!

“We have asked the MPS [Metropolitan Police Service] for the evidence relied upon to justify the arrest,” they continued, adding that Mandelson's “overriding priority is to cooperate with the police investigation, as he has done throughout this process, and to clear his name.”

TIME has reached out to the Metropolitan Police for comment.

Mandelson was released on bail in the early hours of Tuesday morning following his arrest.

“A 72-year-old man arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office has been released on bail pending further investigation,” said a police spokesperson in a statement published just after 2 a.m., local time.

“He was arrested at an address in Camden on Monday, Feb. 23, and was taken to a London police station for interview.”

The police force reiterated that the arrest followed “search warrants at two addresses in the Wiltshire and Camden areas.”

Police opened a criminal investigation into Mandelson earlier this month amid allegations that stemmed from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Jan. 30 release of files related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Once a prominent figure in the U.K.'s ruling Labour Party, Mandelson was sacked as ambassador in September, just months after his appointment, following disclosures from a former batch of Epstein files that showed his relationship with the financier extended beyond what he’d previously disclosed.

In a letter to staff at the British embassy in Washington, D.C., Mandelson referred to the role as the “privilege” of his life and said he feels “utterly awful” about his “association” with Epstein.

The emails released by the DOJ in the final batch of Epstein files proved even more damning.

Correspondence appeared to show Mandelson might have leaked sensitive government information to Epstein when he served as Business Secretary under former U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown from 2008 to 2010.

In one resurfaced email, Mandelson appeared to tell Epstein he would lobby other government officials in an effort to reduce a tax on bankers’ bonuses. In another, he appeared to have forwarded an internal government report to Epstein which showed ways the U.K. might raise funds after the 2008 financial crisis.

Mandelson also appeared to have tipped off Epstein that Brown would be resigning in2010 and that the E.U. would announce a €500 billion bailout to stem the Greek debt crisis.

Iran Accuses U.S. of Spreading ‘Big Lies’ After Trump’s State of the Union Address

Iran has accused the Trump Administration of pushing “big lies” over its nuclear program and the January uprising against the Iranian regime, which saw security forces kill, by some estimates, tens of thousands of protesters.

Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, claimed the U.S. has engaged in a “disinformation and misinformation” campaign against Iran.

“Whatever they're alleging in regards to Iran's nuclear program, Iran's ballistic missiles, and the number of casualties during January's unrest is simply the repetition of 'big lies,’” he said Wednesday morning in a statement issued via social media.

“Professional liars are good at creating the 'illusion of truth.’”

Baghaei’s comments came after President Donald Trump, during his record-breaking State of the Union address Tuesday night, accused Iran of restarting “sinister ambitions” in relation to nuclear weaponry.

“They were warned to make no future attempts to rebuild their weapons program, in particular nuclear weapons… They want to start all over again and are at this moment pursuing their sinister ambitions,” the U.S. President claimed.

Trump did not offer any evidence pertaining to this, nor did he elaborate on why the U.S. is under the impression that Iran has moved to restart its nuclear weapons program.

Framing Iran as a direct threat, Trump continued: “They’ve already developed missiles that can threaten Europe and our bases overseas and they’re working to build missiles that will soon reach the United States of America.”

He appeared to indicate the U.S. would consider taking military action if Tehran does not abandon said ambitions.

Trump, who has recently increased the presence of U.S. military in the Middle East region amid heightened tensions with Iran, went on to hail the power of the U.S. forces.

“We are in negotiations with them [Iran]. They want to make a deal, but we haven’t heard those secret words, 'We will never have a nuclear weapon,’” Trump said. “No nation should ever doubt America’s resolve.. We have the most powerful military on earth.”

In June last year, the U.S. joined Israel in launching strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites—an action Trump said had “completely and totally obliterated” the targeted facilities.

Those strikes were referenced by Trump earlier this year, when he warned Iran of a possible U.S. military invention amid reports that the Iranian regime was killing masses of protesters who had initially gathered to demonstrate against an economy in freefall.

Trump spoke of the protests during his State of the Union address. “They’ve killed at least 32,000 protesters in their own country—they shot a lot of them and hung them,” he said, referring to the regime as “terrible people.”

In late January, local health officials told TIME that the protest death toll could top 30,000. TIME has been unable to independently verify these figures.

Iranian officials rejected the most recent figures put forward by Trump.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliament speaker, referred to it as a “false” claim in an address early Wednesday. “Don't make wrong decisions based on false information,” he reportedly stated, adding that Iran is “not looking for weapons.”

The rebuttal from Iran comes one day before its country's negotiators are set to meet with American officials in Geneva Thursday for a third round of talks on Iran's nuclear program.

The opposing sides met last week, where they made “a little bit of progress” but remain “very far apart on some issues,” according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Texas Tech Professor and Two Others Federally Charged With Fentanyl Distribution Conspiracy

A Texas Tech University marketing and supply chain management professor and two others were federally charged for their roles in a fentanyl distribution conspiracy, announced United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Ryan Raybould.

Daniel Taylor, 50, of Lubbock, Texas, was charged by federal complaint on February 18, 2026, with conspiracy to distribute or possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. Taylor is an assistant professor of marketing and supply chain management with Texas Tech’s Rawls College of Business. Also charged are Alisha Red-Eagle, 21, and Mackenzie Gilcrease, 28, both of Lubbock.

According to the complaint, Taylor distributed two variations of fentanyl powder: one called “Pink Flamingo” and the other called “Ghost.” The complaint alleges that Taylor has been under investigation for drug distribution over the last several months. Specific instances of alleged drug activity include January 12, 2026, when law enforcement agents saw Alisha Red-Eagle enter and exit Taylor’s vehicle at a Lubbock convenience store, and then Red-Eagle entered a white SUV that left the location. When a Lubbock County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped the SUV for a traffic violation, the SUV’s occupants—which included Red-Eagle—advised that a male in the back seat was overdosing on suspected fentanyl supplied by Red-Eagle. Narcan and EMS services were administered. While searching the SUV, officers found five fentanyl pills, a clear baggie containing fentanyl, five aluminum foil wrappers containing fentanyl residue, and a pink baggie containing fentanyl powder.

“Instead of focusing on teaching students supply chain management, the defendant, as alleged, was developing and implementing his own supply chain of lethal fentanyl into the streets of Lubbock,” said U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould. “As alleged, at least in one instance, the fentanyl the defendant peddled through his drug trafficking organization caused an overdose. Former Omro Alderman Sentenced for Receipt of Child Pornography

Brad D. Schimel, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, announced that on February 20, 2026, Jason A. Reeves (age: 44), of Omro, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 66 months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a charge of Receipt of Child Pornography in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 2252A(a)(2)(A).

According to court documents, Reeves, then a City of Omro Alderman, was the subject of a CyberTip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Based on that CyberTip, law enforcement obtained and executed a search warrant at Reeves’ residence resulting in the discovery of numerous videos and images of child sexual abuse material (child pornography) which he received via various internet platforms. Reeves resigned his elected position following his arrest.

U.S. District Court Judge Byron B. Conway noted the serious nature of the offense committed by Reeves and the profound effect that such crimes have on the child victims, even many years after their abuse has stopped. Judge Conway concluded significant prison is necessary to deter this behavior and protect the public. Following his prison term, Reeves will spend 10 years on supervised release and will be required to register as a sexual offender under state and federal law.

“Even though this offender never had direct contact with any of the children abused in the images he accessed, his conduct directly caused long-lasting, severe harm to those children. Every time someone accesses, views or downloads child pornography, they are directly contributing to a worldwide industry that is profiting off the ongoing sexual abuse of children,” stated U.S. Attorney Schimel. “Anyone who does this belongs in prison, no matter who they are.”

“Mr. Reeves was an elected official who violated the trust of the residents he was elected to serve,” said FBI Milwaukee Special Agent in Charge Alan Karr. “The FBI is committed to protecting children from exploitation. The FBI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to combat the exploitation and victimization of children.”

Canada announced Wednesday it is sending $8 million Canadian (US$6.7 million) in food aid to people in Cuba as the island faces an escalating fuel crisis as oil shipments have slowed following U.S. threats of tariffs.

DR Congo government forces launched an attack on AFC/M23 rebels in the country's east, using drones to strike a strategic mining site occupied by the Rwanda-backed rebels, security sources told AFP Wednesday.

The fighting on Wednesday was concentrated in particular in areas near the mining town of Rubaya, where AFC/M23 soldiers were hit by a drone strike the previous day, local and security sources told AFP.

The Rubaya mine produces 15 to 30 percent of the world's supply of coltan, key to making electronics such as laptops and mobile phones.

Since its resurgence in 2021, the AFC/M23 has taken vast tracts of the DRC's resource-rich east, capturing the Rubaya mine in North Kivu province in April 2024 with Rwanda's help.

Its advance intensified the more than three-decades-long conflict which has ravaged the eastern DRC, where dozens of rival armed groups and foreign powers have long vied for control of the region's rich veins of valuable minerals.

The AFC/M23 in December launched an offensive on the strategic city of Uvira, a strategic town in South Kivu province near the border with Burundi.

The assault drew condemnation from the United States, which has mediated a fragile peace deal between the DRC and Rwanda.

Angola, another mediator, had proposed a ceasefire to take effect on February 18, though it has done little to halt hostilities.

'People are terrified'

On Wednesday, local militias backed by Congolese soldiers carried out attacks across several points of the front line in North Kivu, particularly in Masisi – where Rubaya is located – according to local and security sources.

These militias captured the village of Kazinga on Wednesday, some 20 kilometres northwest of Rubaya, the same sources said.

According to UN experts, the AFC/M23 has set up an administration parallel to the Congolese state to regulate the operation of the Rubaya mine since its capture.

"In central Rubaya, people are terrified. I went to see the place where the drone struck, but access was denied," a resident told AFP Tuesday, requesting anonymity.

AFP was unable to confirm the death toll from the strike as phone networks in the area have been down since Tuesday and Congolese authorities and civil society groups fled when the AFC/M23 arrived.

Clashes were also reported Wednesday in the South Kivu highlands, where the Congolese army is battling a coalition of militias allied with the AFC/M23.

Outmatched on the ground by the better-equipped AFC/M23 and Rwandan troops, Kinshasa's forces have relied in part on US pressure on Kigali to stabilise the front line, regional specialists and security sources told AFP.

They also said Kinshasa has secured relative control of its skies thanks to long-range Chinese and Turkish drones, and the help of foreign paramilitaries.

On the morning of February 25, 2026, a violating speedboat was detected within Cuban territorial waters. The vessel, registered in Florida, United States, with registration number FL7726SH, approached up to 1 nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province.

When a surface unit of the Border Guard Troops of the Ministry of the Interior, carrying five service members, approached the vessel for identification, the crew of the violating speedboat opened fire on the Cuban personnel, resulting in the injury of the commander of the Cuban vessel.

As a consequence of the confrontation, as of the time of this report, four aggressors on the foreign vessel were killed and six were injured. The injured individuals were evacuated and received medical assistance.

In the face of current challenges, Cuba reaffirms its determination to protect its territorial waters, based on the principle that national defense is a fundamental pillar of the Cuban State in safeguarding its sovereignty and ensuring stability in the region.

Investigations by the competent authorities continue in order to fully clarify the events.

Drone strikes repeatedly hit civilian areas in Sudan

MSF calls for the immediate protection of civilians and humanitarian workers as teams treat high numbers of patients with severe wounds.

Drone attacks carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are hitting civilian areas and critical infrastructure across Sudan, including schools, crowded markets, health care facilities, and water sources.

In the first two weeks of February, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) teams treated 167 patients with penetrating injuries, including from drone shrapnel, as well as limb fractures and head injuries.

This pattern of attacks is placing civilians and humanitarian workers at grave risk. MSF is calling for their immediate protection.

On February 15, an MSF team in Adré, eastern Chad, received 18 civilians — including four women and three children — who were injured in SAF drone strikes on a fuel market just across the border in Adikong, West Darfur state.

On February 6, 29 injured people were treated at an MSF-supported hospital in Tine, also in eastern Chad, following two RSF drone attacks in western Sudan which killed at least ten people, four of whom died in the hospital.

Since that date, patients have been arriving frequently due to strikes.

“Among the patients we received, a 9-year-old boy arrived with a large shrapnel wound to his eye, extensive facial fractures, and two amputated fingers,” says Virginia Moneti, MSF project medical coordinator in Tine.

“He was in severe pain and exposed to dust after a long journey to reach the facility. Even with optimal care, he is likely to face long-term disability. He was transferred to Ndjamena for further treatment.”

Our teams in Zalingei, Central Darfur, also treated 29 patients this month following several attacks, including at least eight civilians.

Ongoing attacks endanger healthcare access

After drone strikes on November 3 in North Darfur, MSF was forced to withdraw from Kornoi and Tine, halting vital medical and humanitarian services.

These attacks have made it impossible for MSF to maintain a safe presence, leaving people without essential care.

“The war in Sudan is being fought with drones beyond the front lines,” says Esperanza Santos, MSF head of emergencies.

“Our teams are regularly treating large numbers of drone-wounded people, including women and children. These strikes are used to disrupt supply lines, damage civilian infrastructure, and create siege-like conditions in contested areas.”

In North Kordofan, where MSF recently launched an emergency response in El Obeid, drone strikes reportedly hit a humanitarian convoy, a vehicle carrying displaced people, and a bus station between February 6-7.

Drone attacks reportedly also hit various health facilities in Kadugli and Dilling, South Kordofan state, in the first two weeks of February.

“Recent incidents reveal a disturbing pattern in the conduct of the war in Sudan,” adds Santos.

“Drone strikes are not limited to military targets, but sometimes with multiple follow-up strikes on the same location, and are causing devastating harm: civilians, including children, are being killed or severely injured in blatant disregard of international humanitarian law.

Armed actors must take immediate measures to protect civilians and humanitarian workers. Civilians must be always spared.”

When civilian areas and humanitarian infrastructure are not respected, our teams cannot operate safely, leaving communities without essential care.

This is the exact opposite of what the people of Sudan urgently require, as humanitarian needs are immense and an immediate scale-up of assistance is critical.

ST. GEORGE, Utah – An indictment was unsealed today in the District of Utah following the arrest of a Southern Utah entrepreneur, and original co-founder and creator of the “Squatty Potty,” after he was charged for receiving sexually explicit images of a child.

Robert Edwards, 50, of Ivins, Utah, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 10, 2026. He was arrested on February 12, 2026, in Washington County, Utah. During his initial appearance on the indictment, he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the U.S. Marshal Service by U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Kohler in St. George.

According to the allegations in court documents, beginning in March 2021, and continuing through November 2025, in the District of Utah, and elsewhere, Edwards knowingly received multiple images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). In March 2021, an undercover FBI agent assumed the identity of an online profile account and joined a group chat used to trade child sexual abuse material. The online meeting room was viewing a collection of child sexual abuse material videos, which were being streamed on the main screen. Participants in the meeting were visible, including one user later identified as Edwards.

As alleged in court documents, the investigation continued and in May 2025, FBI agents learned that Edwards was suspected of purchasing additional child sexual abuse material via his PayPal account, which flagged four transactions involving Edwards’ account as possibly related to CSAM. On November 4, 2025, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Edwards’s person and residence. Agents seized a cell phone from his vehicle, which contained multiple videos and images of child sexual abuse material, some of which downloaded onto the cell phone just two weeks before the search warrant was executed. At Edwards’s residence, law enforcement seized additional devices and found additional child sexual abuse material files.

Da Nang seizes drone after repeated intrusions into no-fly zone near int’l airport

Authorities in Da Nang City, central Vietnam have temporarily seized a drone operated by a 36-year-old man who repeatedly flew it into restricted airspace near Da Nang International Airport, an act that raised serious aviation safety concerns and may result in a fine of up to about US$1,530.

The Da Nang Military Command said on Tuesday that patrol forces detected and confiscated the drone during a routine inspection along Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach in Hoa Khanh Ward.

At about 2:00 pm that day, officers identified Truong N.T., a local resident, operating the drone within a designated no-fly zone near the airport.

A review of the drone’s onboard data showed that T. had flown the device illegally on multiple consecutive days, including during the 2026 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.

Authorities warned that unauthorized drone operations near airports pose significant risks to aircraft and passengers, potentially disrupting flight operations and threatening civil aviation safety.

At the scene, officers informed T. that his actions violated regulations governing unmanned aerial vehicles under Government Decree 282/2025/ND-CP.

Under Article 8 of the decree, violators face administrative fines ranging from VND30 million ($1,150) to VND40 million ($1,530), along with possible confiscation of the equipment.

The Hoa Khanh Ward Military Command documented the violation, temporarily seized the drone, and transferred the case to police for further investigation and handling under the law.

Officials said illegal drone activity in Da Nang has grown increasingly complex, particularly in coastal areas and residential neighborhoods located near restricted zones and flight safety corridors.

On February 22, Da Nang International Airport reported three separate drone intrusions during Tet, forcing 49 flights to delay take-offs and landings.

Airport officials said air traffic controllers coordinated with relevant agencies to secure the airspace, instructing aircraft to hold position and adjusting schedules until operations could safely resume.

Flight operations later returned to normal.

The military command said it has intensified patrols and surveillance, working closely with relevant agencies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement.

Authorities have also expanded public awareness campaigns targeting residents, service providers and tourists, urging strict compliance with drone regulations and reinforcing prohibitions on flying in restricted and no-fly zones to safeguard aviation safety.

The three-man team have faced temperatures as low as -28C, pushing their machines to the limit as they carried out flights at the Blåtinden Ranges in the Troms region of Norway.

Malloy flight commander, Colour Sergeant Dan Lyness, said: “As the first team to integrate into ground forces in the UK we have been able to bring our experience from working in the UK to the high north and learn to operate with all the challenges of operating in temperatures below zero.

“This is a completely new capability that we are learning to exploit to enable greater movement on the ground with a reduced risk to life leveraging modern technology to our advantage.

“Heavy lift Uncrewed Aerial Systems have been used extensively in the Russia/Ukraine conflict with many new use cases, so it is critical we master this emerging capability quickly, training in the high north is a key part of that.”

Cuban Border Guards Kill Four People On American Speedboat

The Cuban Embassy's official X account reported that a Florida-registered speedboat illegally entered Cuban territorial waters. This prompted a maritime unit of Cuban border guards to intercept the vessel, after which a firefight erupted, leaving four people aboard the speedboat dead and six injured.

"The vessel, registered in Florida, United States, with registration number FL7726SH, approached to within 1 nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, in Cayo Falcones, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province," Cuba's embassy wrote on X, citing a note from the Ministry of the Interior.

As a consequence of the confrontation, as of the time of this report, four aggressors on the foreign vessel were killed and six were injured. The injured individuals were evacuated and received medical assistance.

In the face of current challenges, Cuba reaffirms its determination to protect its territorial waters, based on the principle that national defense is a fundamental pillar of the Cuban state in safeguarding its sovereignty and ensuring stability in the region.

What armed men aboard the Florida-registered speedboat were doing inside Cuban territorial waters remains a very open question at the moment. We assess that they were almost certainly not on a Cohiba-smuggling run, and the larger question is whether they may have been operating as mercenaries amid U.S. pressure to topple the communist regime in Havana.

Navy pilot Lt. Cmdr. Alex Dietrich was one of several Navy personnel to encounter a “Tic-Tac” UFO while stationed on the USS Nimitz supercarrier in the Pacific Ocean.

This week, she addressed President Donald Trump announcing plans to “begin the process” of releasing official government files related to UFOs and aliens.

On November 14, 2004, six Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets and an E-2C Hawkeye plane launched off the USS Nimitz approximately 100 miles off the coast of San Diego.

According to the pilots, the aircraft was roughly 46 feet long and shaped like a Tic-Tac. Navy personnel observed the UFO on radar falling from 28,000 feet to 50 feet above the Pacific Ocean in just 0.78 seconds as they got close to the unidentified aircraft.

Another Navy veteran who was aboard the USS Princeton, a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, stated that the UFO did not produce any sonic booms while traveling at an incredible 24,000 miles per hour.

Former Navy pilot who encountered the ‘Tic-Tac’ UFO speaks out

This week, Dietrich spoke to CBS News about the encounter and what the American public should expect from the government files once the government releases them.

“We had four folks who saw it visually, and it was tracked on multiple sensors, by other witnesses in that encounter,” she recalled.

“And we saw something that we couldn’t identify in 2004 – something that appeared to violate what we understood about physics and aerodynamics in that moment. We reported it through our chain of command.

“So I’m not in the business of sensationalizing it, but I am in the business of being accurate,” Dietrich added. What does that mean for us right now? I think that transparency is the right instinct. What I hope that people understand is that releasing files is a process and not a revelation.

"It took over a decade for our ‘Tic-Tac’ video to become public. And what gets released, what gets declassified, and what those documents actually say are all very different questions. So, I would encourage people to be patient and to keep their expectations managed.”

“And I would also say, you know, folks get carried away when we use the term aliens,” Dietrich continued. “And I think that it’s important to reframe here and say instead of, ‘Are there aliens?’ to say ‘What’s operating in our restricted airspace that we can’t identify?’

and whether it’s adversarial technology, an unknown atmospheric phenomenon, or something else entirely. This is genuinely a national security and flight safety issue. So that’s the question that should drive this disclosure effort.

She wants to normalize speaking out for other pilots who encounter UFOs

Lt. Cmdr. Dietrich was then asked, “When you say the thing you observed and the others observed, the four of you defied what you understood about the laws of physics, what exactly do you mean?”

“So, we spend a lot of time practicing our maneuvers, using our time practice in the cockpit to really understand the way that our aircraft are moving and how to optimize that in order to get an advantage,” she replied.

“We want to get a shot off. We want to make sure that we’re defending ourselves against adversaries in those encounters.” “And so we practice, we calibrate our eyeballs in order to be able to recognize those moments,” she explained.

“And when we encountered this strange thing on November 14th, 2004, it defied the laws of physics. We weren’t sure what we were looking at or how it was doing what it was doing. And I’ve tried over the years to normalize this for other aviators.

“For a long time, pilots didn’t report, and so that stigma has real consequences. And so I want people if they see something to be able to say something.”

Washington declined to endorse Kiev’s statement calling for an unconditional ceasefire

The US has abstained from a UN General Assembly vote on a Kiev-backed resolution condemning Russia’s actions in the Ukraine conflict.

The resolution on Tuesday, delivered four years after the escalation of the conflict, urged an immediate, full, and unconditional ceasefire.

In the UN General Assembly vote on the document, 107 countries supported it, 12 – including Belarus, Iran, and North Korea – voted against, and 51, including the US, Armenia, Brazil, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Serbia, and Uzbekistan, abstained.

UN General Assembly President and former German ForeignMinister Annalena Baerbock told ARD that the US delegation “deliberately wanted to remove” the requirement of a “lasting and just peace” from the resolution.

“The Americans have always voted for this resolution before,” she said. Now, “for the first time, they haven’t voted for it,” Baerbock noted, claiming the stance was “frustrating.”

UN General Assembly resolutions are advisory in nature and are not legally binding.

Russia says it is seeking a comprehensive peace deal rather than an immediate frontline ceasefire, which it believes Ukraine would merely use to rearm and regroup amid steady battlefield setbacks. Moscow argues the conflict can only be resolved by addressing its “root causes,” and that a sustainable settlement requires Ukraine to withdraw from areas it controls in Donbass – which voted to join Russia in 2022 – commit to demilitarization and “denazification,” abandon its NATO bid, and adopt neutral status.

Russia, the US, and Ukraine held talks in Geneva last week after earlier meetings in Abu Dhabi in January, but territorial disputes — particularly Kiev’s refusal to relinquish its claim to Donbass — reportedly remain the main obstacle to peace.

'UFO' filmed over central Estonian skies likely airplane contrails

A mysterious unidentified "burning object" spotted in the skies over central Estonia may simply be aircraft contrails in a light particular for the time of year, Maaleht reported.

Maaleht reader Sander took the photos and videos shortly before 6 p.m. on Sunday, near Koeru, Järva County, facing toward the Tartu highway.

"At times it resembles a rocket," Sander said, adding an acquaintance had suggested it was "pieces of a Chinese space rocket burning up in the atmosphere" and that it was difficult to judge the event's altitude and distance.

The initial images show a falling object trailed by black smoke, while "Later something keeps dropping with smoke along the edges — not sure if it's a rocket or a plane," Sander said, adding that he called 112, the national emergency number.

Taavi Niittee, leader of the Tõrva astronomy club in South Estonia, said this was most likely an airplane and its condensation trail, or contrail, that Sander saw.

While contrails are common, the current weather conditions, clear but cold and with the long sunsets, can render this everyday sight more unusual-looking, Niittee said, adding: "The unusually dark contrast of the trail against the bright sky is caused by its angle relative to the setting Sun."

In this kind of elongated orientation, a contrail tends to cast a shadow on itself, explaining the unusual appearance, while the aircraft itself could be observed in the video and photos as a bright object at the "lower" end of the trail.

Another tell-tale sign was the slow-moving nature of the object and ensuing trail – while rockets and other space debris burning up are significantly faster-moving phenomena, Niittee said.

Aircraft contrails generally form when warm, moist gases expelled by aero engines meet air as cold as 40 degrees below zero, rapidly condensing into ice crystals, which in turn grow around tiny soot particles left over from jet fuel combustion.

In dry air, the crystals sublimate quickly and the contrail is short-lived; in humid air, the trails last much longer and can grow or change shape under the influence of high-altitude winds.

The presence of aircraft contrails in the skies overhead has in recent years also fueled various conspiracy theories about their true nature.

What If Aliens Are Real? A Thought Experiment

This is how strange our times are: Last week, two United States presidents engaged the question of whether aliens are real, and it wasn’t even in the top 15 stories of the week.

The debate was over not “aliens” as in migrants to a country but “aliens” as in extraterrestrial, nonhuman beings.

Former president Barack Obama sparked the controversy by responding to a question about aliens in a podcast interview and saying that “they’re real” before assuring listeners that there are no underground bunkers studying aliens at Area 51.

President Donald Trump then accused Obama of giving out “classified information” and then pledged to declassify government documents on what used to be called unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and are now referred to as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs).

Those discussing UAPs these days are not tinfoil-wearing conspiracists but rather the secretary of state and senior military officials who argue that someone seems to have some kind of technology that American scientists can’t explain.

Still, I find it highly unlikely that anything substantial will come out of whatever documents are released. But let’s suppose, for the sake of argument, that science does one day prove the existence of intelligent extraterrestrial life.

Obama clarified a few days later, after his interview prompted questions all over the world, that he was not suggesting he has some inside information about aliens.

Just the opposite, he said: “The universe is so vast that” he finds it likely that we are not the only conscious species out there. Some people were disappointed by this.

Some of them just want the drama of it all, of course, but some want alien life to be out there because they find the prospect of a lifeless universe in which we are all alone to be a depressing reality at best and an existential crisis at worst.

Others have the opposite view. If next week Trump were to give a speech presenting compelling evidence of extraterrestrial life (as his daughter-in-law speculated he at some point will), some people would be terrified.

A thousand movies have anticipated how the world would respond—with some picturing panic, others euphoria, still others world peace wrought by having a common enemy.

But what about your church? What would happen the Sunday morning after this kind of news? Some would have a crisis of faith.

After all, no doubt people would opine this means Christianity—along with every other religion—is wrong. We are just a cosmic accident, they would say, since most religions but especially Christianity grant human beings uniqueness in the universe.

And if the news were the opposite—proving that we are alone in the universe—some people would be in a crisis of faith then, too.

In that case, they would think our aloneness, in light of such a vast universe, means we are just a speck of matter, conscious for a moment, on a little rock circling a star.

The reason I bring this up is not because I have an argument to make, one way or the other, about how likely alien life might be.

What I do know is that even if we were ever to definitively solve the question of whether we are alone in the universe, Christianity would be just fine. And that’s because the question is not really all that new.

The David of the Bible did not know what a black hole was, and he wouldn’t have recognized an elementary-school model of the solar system, much less images from the Hubble Space Telescope.

But he could see the sky, and its vastness caused him to feel the smallness and seeming insignificance of humanity: “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?” (Ps. 8:3–4, ESV throughout).

In Scripture, God himself often communicates that the known world is far bigger and stranger than what the human mind can imagine, much less comprehend.

We need not go into outer space for that kind of insight. We need only recognize how unexplored and mysterious our own oceans are: “Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great; There go the ships, and Leviathan, which you formed to play in it” (104:25–26).

Yet the very same Scriptures reveal human uniqueness. David answered his own question about why we should consider a tiny human significant: “Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor.

You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet” (8:5–6). Both these things are true: Humanity is a speck in a dizzyingly large universe—and the heir of all of it.

The writer of Hebrews took the argument a step further. He quoted David and then added that the problem is everything certainly does not seem to be under humanity’s feet. Nature is big and wild and chaotic—and ultimately kills us all.

How can we say that humanity matters, much less that it is central? “But,” the writer says, “we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone” (2:9).

The Christian claim is this: “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14), and the Son of God is inseparably united with human nature and thus is “not ashamed to call them brothers” (Heb. 2:11).

That was no easier to accept in the first century than it is now. After all, no one in the first century knew what satellites were, but they did know that the cosmos was unspeakably big.

And of this one workman rabbi from Nazareth, the apostle Paul wrote, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Col. 1:16–17).

The gospel has already grappled with the fact that we as the human race seem alone and microscopic. We are “fellow heirs with Christ” (Rom. 8:17) not because we can conquer but because he was crucified.

His defeat of death accomplished the promise that boggled Abraham’s mind when he looked at the night sky over Canaan: “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them,” God said to him. “So shall your offspring be” (Gen. 15:5).

If a spacecraft were to arrive and an alien say, “Take me to your leader,” we might be unnerved. But we would not, as Christians, be facing a dilemma we hadn’t seen before.

We have always known there are nonhuman intelligences out there in the created order—principalities and powers, angels and demons. And it was just as stunning in the first century to ask why Jesus died for us and not for them:

For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham. Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. (Heb. 2:16–17)

Paul wrote of bad circumstances and of good, “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound” (Phil. 4:12). The same is true here. We know how to be in a universe where there’s no other planet with intelligent beings.

And we know how to be in a universe where there is. We’ve encountered phenomena far more anomalous than whatever the Air Force has tracked. The problem isn’t aliens, and it’s not even human fragility. The problem is misunderstood glory.

Even if there’s something out there watching us, and even if it were to ask, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth, or from the little rock to which Nazareth clings?” we still have the same answer we always had: “Come and see.”

When US Secretary of State Marco Rubio left the polite but brittle atmosphere of the Munich Security Conference and headed for Bratislava and Budapest, the contrast could not have been sharper.

In Munich, the old guard of transatlantic liberalismclung to its vocabulary of ‘rules-based order’ and ‘shared values’, even as its political base erodes across the continent. In Central Europe,Rubio encountered something different: Governmentsconfident in their mandates, unapologetic about sovereignty, and aligned with Donald Trump’s insistence that nations – not supranational bureaucracies – are the primary actors of history.

Last week’s visit was a statement of intent. Washington under Trump has made a deliberate choice: If Europe is to be a partner rather than a liability, it must be rebuilt from its healthiest political core. And that core lies not in Brussels, but along the Danube.

In Bratislava,Rubio met with Prime Minister Robert Fico and President Peter Pellegrini. Theagenda– regional security, nuclear cooperation, military modernization –was substantive. But thesubtext was unmistakable. “Under President Trump, this administration is going to make not just Slovakia but Central Europea key component of how we engage the continent and the world,” Rubio said. It was a diplomatic sentence with revolutionary implications.

For years, Central Europe was treated by Brussels as a problem to be managed: Too conservative, too attached to national identity, too resistant to cultural engineering. Now it is being treated by Washington as an asset to be cultivated.

Fico’s remarks revealed why this shift matters. When he visited Moscow and Beijing last year in pursuit of Slovakia’s national interests,the reaction from EU institutions was furious– accusations, insinuations, moral lectures. Central European leaders have grown weary of an EU that polices internal politics more aggressively than it secures external borders.They have watched as energy supplies became instruments of political pressure and as ideological conformity became a condition of financial solidarity. Slovakia and Hungary have both experienced the weaponization of gas and oil transit routes by Kiev and Brussels – an illustration of how geopolitics, underBrussels’ watch, too often morphs into leverage against dissenting member states.

Trump’s America reads the situation differently. Stability requires diversification, not dogma. Slovakia’s negotiations with Westinghouse Electric Company to build a new nuclear power plant by 2040, along with plans to expand its fleet of F-16 fighter jets, represent more than procurement decisions.They symbolize a rebalancing: Energy sovereignty anchored in American partnership rather than EU dependency.

Slovakia’s upcoming presidency of the Visegrad Group offers an even broader horizon. A potential V4-US summit would institutionalize what is already happening politically:The consolidation of a Central European bloc that sees Washington– not Brussels –as its most reliable strategic interlocutor. Democrat Scott Harriman won a special election in Lewiston on Tuesday to fill a vacant seat in the Maine House.

Harriman defeated Republican Janet Beaudoin by a vote margin of 572 to 503. Harriman will take the House District 94 seat vacated by former Rep. Kristen Cloutier, a Democrat who resigned last fall to take a job in the Senate President's office.

Harriman's victory means that Democrats will have a narrow, three-seat advantage over Republicans in the 151-member House, with three independent or unenrolled members. Another special election will be held in June to fill a seat held by Republican Rep. Kathy Javner, who died in January.

The special election in Lewiston was a high priority for both parties because of the potential implications for control of the House. Harriman, 39, is currently serving his third term on the Lewiston City Council and also serves on the Lewiston School Committee.

This would result in a 4 sided planchet, with the four corners trimmed, to produce an 8 side "COB", which is were the term "pieces of eight" comes from.

It has nothing to do with the value, as the cobs were made in a variety of denominations, all having the same eight sides.

UFOs Avoiding Detection: AARO’s Hidden Findings

The State of the Union came and went without a single mention of UFOs. But while that silence played out publicly, one of the most significant UAP interviews in recent memory was taking place behind the scenes.

Investigative journalist Chris Sharp, writing for Liberation Times and the Daily Mail, spoke with Weaponized discussing that he sat down with Tim Phillips — the former deputy director and former acting director of AARO, the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, the official U.S. Department of Defense office created in 2022 to investigate UAP.

According to Sharp’s account of the interview, AARO processed thousands of UAP reports, narrowing its focus to cases showing what Phillips described as truly extraordinary performance characteristics.

After running those cases through a deconfliction process — confirming objects were neither American technology nor known adversary platforms — roughly 40 to 50 cases remained that the office simply could not explain, even after bringing in what Phillips called the best analysts in the world.

Among the most notable revelations, Sharp reported that Phillips indicated AARO had cases involving UAP activity in space. Per Sharp’s account, no official previously associated with AARO had ever stated this publicly.

When pressed for specifics, Phillips became visibly uncomfortable and would not elaborate, though he confirmed AARO had established a formal collaboration with Space Force and Space Command to capture that data going forward.

Sharp described Phillips as carefully staying within certain limits throughout the interview, using language that technically avoided any conclusion while describing observations that pointed strongly in one direction.

Phillips stated in both the interview that AARO found no verifiable evidence of extraterrestrial or non-human intelligence — the same phrasing addressed under oath by military witness Dylan Borland, who noted that the evidentiary standard required to prove extraterrestrial origin is nearly impossible to meet.

Sharp also raised the name of Glenn Gaffney, former director of science and technology for the CIA, whose name had previously been raised under oath in Congress in connection with an alleged blocked transfer of non-human intelligence technology from Lockheed Martin to the office that preceded AARO.

According to Sharp’s reporting, Phillips confirmed AARO contacted Gaffney directly. Gaffney denied knowing anything about it.

The Rundown

A hacker used Anthropic’s Claude chatbot to carry out cyberattacks against multiple Mexican government agencies, stealing around 150 gigabytes of sensitive data, according to research from Israeli cybersecurity firm Gambit Security.

The stolen information reportedly includes records tied to 195 million taxpayers, voter data, employee credentials and civil registry files.

Researchers say the attacker repeatedly probed and eventually “jailbroke” Claude, bypassing its safety guardrails to generate exploit scripts and automate the theft.

The hacker also attempted to use OpenAI’s ChatGPT for additional guidance, though OpenAI said its systems refused malicious requests. Anthropic said it banned the accounts involved and strengthened protections.
