The former Prime Minister of Norway has been rushed to hospital after a reported suicide attempt.

Former Norwegian Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland was hospitalised on Tuesday, February 24, just a few days after he was charged with serious corruption offences, linked to his association with paedophile Epstein. Reports of Jagland attempting suicide where denied by his lawyer.

The former-Prime Minister's lawyer, Anders Brosveet, cracked down on claims by some Norwegian outlets, including iNyheter, and strongly denied Jagland went through a "suicide attempt".

According to Brosveet, Jagland was taken to hospital following extreme stress and medical risk brought on by the criminal investigation and media pressure. Jagland has denied criminal liability and previously said he is willing to cooperate with the investigation.

The Mirror also said documents in the Epstein files appear to show Jagland planned a family trip to Epstein's private island in 2014 but this was cancelled when the paedophile fell ill. Another exchange appeared to show the ex-PM trying to help Epstein get a bank loan but it is not clear if this went through, according to Norwegian news site NRK.

Jagland served as Prime Minister in Norway, between 1996 - 1997, and was the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, between 2009 to 2015. The charge on Jagland was put on the former PM after his immunity from the Council of Europe, which he led between 2009-2018, was lifted.

Police in Norway have not confirmed whether this allegation is being looked into. Being mentioned in the Epstein Files does not amount to an accusation of any wrongdoing.

CISA and Partners Release Guidance for Ongoing Global Exploitation of Cisco SD-WAN Systems

Release DateFebruary 25, 2026

The purpose of this Alert is to provide resources for organizations with Cisco Software-Defined Wide-Area Networking (SD-WAN) systems, including Federal Civilian Executive Branch (FCEB) agencies, to address ongoing exploitation of multiple vulnerabilities. Notably, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has added CVE-2026-20127 and CVE-2022-20775 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) Catalog on Feb. 25, 2026. As a result of the malicious cyber activity and vulnerabilities involving Cisco SD-WAN systems, CISA has outlined requirements for FCEB agencies in Emergency Directive (ED) 26-03 to inventory Cisco SD-WAN systems, update them, and assess compromise.

CISA and partners have observed malicious cyber actors targeting and compromising Cisco SD-WAN systems of organizations, globally. These actors have been observed exploiting a previously undisclosed authentication bypass vulnerability, CVE-2026-20127, for initial access before escalating privileges using CVE-2022-20775 and establishing long-term persistence in Cisco SD-WAN systems.

CISA, National Security Agency (NSA), and international partners Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ASD’s ACSC), Canadian Centre for Cyber Security (Cyber Centre), New Zealand National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-NZ), and United Kingdom National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC-UK), hereafter the “authoring organizations,” strongly urge network defenders to immediately 1) inventory all in-scope Cisco SD-WAN systems, 2) collect artifacts, including virtual snapshots and logs off of SD-WAN systems to support threat hunt activities, 3) fully patch Cisco SD-WAN systems with available updates, 4) hunt for evidence of compromise, and 5) concurrently review Cisco’s latest security advisories, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controller Authentication Bypass Vulnerability and Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Vulnerabilities, and implement Cisco’s SD-WAN Hardening Guidance.1

To address malicious activity involving vulnerable Cisco SD-WAN systems, CISA issued Emergency Directive 26-03: Mitigate Vulnerabilities in Cisco SD-WAN Systems, which outlines requirements for FCEB agencies to inventory Cisco SD-WAN systems, update them, and assess compromise. Further, CISA released Supplemental Direction ED 26-03: Hunt and Hardening Guidance for Cisco SD-WAN Systems to provide prescriptive actions for FCEB agencies.

Cisco’s Catalyst SD-WAN Hardening Guide recommends that network defenders address:

Network perimeter controls: Ensure control components are behind a firewall, isolate virtual private network (VPN) 512 interfaces, and use internet protocol (IP) blocks for manually provisioned edge IPs.

SD-WAN manager access: Replace the self-signed certificate for the web user interface.

Control and data plane security: Use pairwise keys.

Session timeout: Limit to the shortest period possible.

Logging: Forward to a remote syslog server.

Outrage In Sacramento: California Parole Board Grants Release Of Serial Child Rapist

The California Parole Board’s decision to release a serial child molester who used candy and toys to lure children as young as three years old has sparked outrage from victims, prosecutors, and law enforcement officials.

David Allen Funston, 64, was convicted in 1999 of sixteen counts of kidnapping and child molestation after a horrific crime spree in Sacramento County, during which he kidnapped, raped, and beat eight children aged 3 to 7.

The judge described him as “the monster parents fear the most” and sentenced him to three consecutive life terms plus 20 years.

Funston was recently granted parole under California’s Elderly Parole Program, which allows inmates over 50 who have served at least 20 years to be considered for release.

He was initially denied parole in May 2022 but was granted suitability for release in September 2025.

Governor Gavin Newsom (D.) requested a review of the decision and the Board of Parole Hearings reaffirmed it on February 18, 2026.

Newsom did not override the decision.

Former prosecutor Anne Marie Schubert, who prosecuted Funston in what she called “the worst child predator case I’ve ever seen,” has urged the state to screen him for the Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) program, which would allow civil commitment to a state hospital instead of public release.

“He was hunting for young children,” Schubert, now a victim’s rights advocate, told the Modesto Bee.

“It boggles the mind. He’s the poster child for why sex offenders should be exempt from elderly parole.”

The ex-heads of Poland’s domestic and military intelligence are being prosecuted for alleged use of the software without proper clearance

The former directors of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) have been charged for allegedly using Pegasus spyware, the national prosecutor’s office has announced.

After Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government took over in late 2023, it launched multiple inquiries into the alleged use of the controversial software developed by the Israeli-based NSO Group. The new authorities have claimed the program was widely used by the former Law and Justice (PiS) government to spy on opposition politicians. Former officials, however, have insisted the accusations are politically motivated.

The head of the ABW, Piotr Pogonowski, and the ex-chief of the SKW, Maciej Materka, are both now facing accusations of breaching their official duties, the prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday. The charges, which carry a penalty of up to three years behind bars, are related to the alleged use of Pegasus without proper clearance and “without checking whether this system meets the requirements of information protection,” the prosecution said. Both former officials have denied any wrongdoing and refused to testify, it noted.

Ex-Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro has also been implicated in the Pegasus scandal. Last September, he was detained and brought before a parliamentary commission investigating the use of the Israeli-made spyware. He admitted initiating the purchase of Pegasus. Ziobro claimed it was used to “pursue criminals, not political opponents” and was overall a “good decision.”

Shortly after the hearing, the ex-minister faced 26 criminal charges, including embezzlement of state funds, leading a crime group, and interfering with tender offers. Ziobro had his immunity waived and an arrest warrant was issued in November last year, while he was in Budapest. The politician denied all charges, opting to stay in Hungary and receiving political asylum there early in January.

First identified in 2016, Pegasus software has been the centerpiece of multiple high-profile scandals worldwide, with officials repeatedly caught using it for questionable goals. The program is designed to target iOS devices and is believed to be capable of call snooping, reading text messages, location tracking, collecting passwords, and other malicious activities.

Darrel Brown: I certainly live carefully. We're aware of what's happening around us. We don't take silly chances.

Fermentation Unlocks Cancer-Fighting Power

The study, recently published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, found that when stevia is fermented with a probiotic, the resulting extract kills pancreatic cancer cells while sparing healthy kidney cells. The fermented extract inhibited cancer growth but did not harm normal cells.

The research team fermented stevia leaf extract using the probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum SN13T, a beneficial bacterium commonly found in fermented foods such as sauerkraut, pickles, and kimchi. The researchers noted that fermenting the extract with bacteria can change its structure and produce beneficial compounds called bioactive metabolites.

“To enhance the pharmacological efficacy of natural plant extracts, microbial biotransformation has emerged as an effective strategy,” Masanori Sugiyama, a professor of microbiology and biotechnology and coauthor of the study, said in a statement.

Sugiyama’s lab has studied more than 1,200 strains of bacteria from fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants, evaluating their health benefits.

The results showed that the fermented stevia leaf extract (FSLE) was more effective at killing cancer cells than the nonfermented version.

Sugiyama said that FSLE was also less harmful to the HEK-293 cells, which are the human kidney cells used in the study. Even at the highest dose tested, FSLE caused minimal damage to these cells.

This is important because conventional chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, can damage the kidneys—especially the left one, which is adjacent to the pancreas.

Key Anticancer Agent Identified

Further analysis identified a compound called chlorogenic acid methyl ester (CAME) as the key anticancer agent. Fermentation reduced the amount of chlorogenic acid—a precursor to CAME—in the extract by sixfold, a change caused by bacterial enzymes, corresponding to the production of CAME, according to Danshiitsoodol.

“This microbial transformation was likely due to specific enzymes in the bacteria strain used,” she said.

CAME was found to stop cancer cells from multiplying, trigger them to self-destruct, and change the expression of key genes so that cells are more likely to die.

The experiments were conducted on cancer cells grown in laboratory dishes—not in living organisms. The researchers plan to conduct tests in mice to better understand how different doses of the fermented extract affect the entire body.

They emphasized that their results help explain how probiotic bacteria can boost the anticancer effects of herbal medicines. Danshiitsoodol noted that the study significantly advances understanding of how the Lactobacillus plantarum SN13T strain works in fermenting herbal extracts, and it also offers insight into using probiotics as natural antitumor agents.

A Chinese official’s use of ChatGPT accidentally revealed a global intimidation operation

A sprawling Chinese influence operation — accidentally revealed by a Chinese law enforcement official’s use of ChatGPT — focused on intimidating Chinese dissidents abroad, including by impersonating US immigration officials, according to a new report from ChatGPT-maker OpenAI.

The Chinese law enforcement official used ChatGPT like a diary to document the alleged covert campaign of suppression, OpenAI said. In one instance, Chinese operators allegedly disguised themselves as US immigration officials to warn a US-based Chinese dissident that their public statements had supposedly broken the law, according to the ChatGPT user. In another case, they describe an effort to use forged documents from a US county court to try to get a Chinese dissident’s social media account taken down.

The report offers one of the most vivid examples yet of how authoritarian regimes can use AI tools to document their censorship efforts. The influence operation appeared to involve hundreds of Chinese operators and thousands of fake online accounts on various social media platforms, according to OpenAI.

“This is what Chinese modern transnational repression looks like,” Ben Nimmo, principal investigator at OpenAI, told reporters ahead of the report’s release. “It’s not just digital. It’s not just about trolling. It’s industrialized. It’s about trying to hit critics of the CCP [Chinese Communist Party] with everything, everywhere, all at once.”

CNN has requested comment on the report from the Chinese Embassy in Washington, DC.

ChatGPT served as a journal for the Chinese operative to keep track of the covert network, while much of the network’s content was generated by other tools and spread through social media accounts and websites. OpenAI banned the user after discovering the activity.

OpenAI’s investigators were able to match descriptions from the ChatGPT user with real-world online activity and impact. The user described an effort to fake the death of a Chinese dissident by creating a phony obituary and photos of a gravestone and posting them online. False rumors of the dissident’s death did indeed surfaced online in 2023, according to a Chinese-language Voice of America article.

In another case, the ChatGPT user asked the AI agent to draw up a multi-part plan to denigrate the incoming Japanese prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, in part by fanning online anger about US tariffs on Japanese goods. ChatGPT refused to respond to the prompt, according to OpenAI. But in late October, as Takaichi took power, hashtags emerged on a popular forum for Japanese graphic artists attacking her and complaining about US tariffs, according to OpenAI.

The report comes amid a battle between the US and China for supremacy over AI. At stake is how the technology is used on the battlefield and in the boardroom of the world’s two biggest economies.

The Pentagon is in a standoff with another prominent AI company, Anthropic, over the use of its AI model. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has given Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei a Friday deadline to comply with demands to peel back safeguards on its AI model or risk losing a lucrative Pentagon contract.

The report from OpenAI “clearly demonstrates the way that China is actively employing AI tools to enhance information operations,” Michael Horowitz, a former Pentagon official focused on emerging technologies, told CNN.

“US-China AI competition is continuing to intensify,” said Horowtiz, who is now a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. “This competition is not just taking place at the frontier, but in how China’s government is planning and implementing the day-to-day of their surveillance and information apparatus.”
