>please elaborate

the previous post is pretty much self-explanatory

the prisoner's dilemma poses a scenario where either you trust a stranger or don't

and the stranger may be honest or not

in a one-off meeting, trust MIGHT lead to the best possible outcome for both

but trust COULD lead to the worst possible outcome (for you)

so the safest decision (for you) is to not trust

but that scenario fails to describe real life in any meaningful way

bcs most encounters are with people we've encountered before and will encounter again

in THAT extended scenario, the decision to trust is the one that pays the greatest dividends in the long run, for all participants

even if you "get burned" by the occasional POS

>POTUS WILL TURN ON ISRAEL WHEN GIVEN THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY.

the aircraft carrier is docked at Haifa

from there, it CANNOT attack iran

bcs ALL arab airspace in between is closed to US mil

the ONLY thing they can attack from there is israel

just sayin'โ€ฆ.

>better than the original idea of calling it the prisoner's dilemma

thx, i guess

wellโ€ฆ

"the prisoner's dilemma" was first postulated by John von Neumann

if you don't know who that was, he was a mathematical savant who was deeply involved in US mil and intel

but a more telling description is that the character of Dr. Strangelove in the eponymous movie was based on him

>rational vs irrational

is misleading

people do not choose to act irrationally

a better juxtaposition is logical vs emotional

bcs emotional can be also be a kind of logic

it's necessary to ask from whence to emotions arise?

physiologically, they arise in the "snake brain"

one of the most primitive brain structures

so named bcs it is common to reptiles and all animals above them on the evolutionary ladder

fear, fight or flight, love, curiosity, โ€ฆ

these are hard-wired into our brains by the collective experiences of all our ancestors

the fear of fire, falling, death, etc

the desire to associate (procreate), ie, affection, love, etc

in simpler organisms, it's a demonstrable fact that highly stressful experiences can subtly alter DNA

no reason to think that mechanism is not operable in ALL living organism

so acting based on an emotional response COULD be it's own form of logic

albeit, an inferior form compared to logic and critical thinking applied to the immediate situation

i have to say i agree in some sense that MOST people act on emotion most of the time

the dead give-away is right in our language

everyone has said "what do you FEEL like doing tonite?"

rarely does anyone say, "what do you logically conclude we should do?"

or ask someone why they did something, the reply will likely be, "i FELT like it"

hardly ever will the reply be, "i analyzed my options and made the logical choice to do that"
