Iran is understandably dominating global headlines, but major events are still happening in oh yeah that other war which has been raging for four plus years in eastern Europe.
Like with the Iran conflict theatre, major geopolitical repercussions impacting energy oil prices are coming out of the Ukraine war. An overnight Monday large-scale drone wave from Ukraine has severely damaged Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
Ukraine's General Staff has described that the facility supplies Russian forces engaged in the war, after reports have indicated the intended target was the Sheskharis oil terminal, one of southern Russia's largest oil and petroleum transshipment hubs.
A large fire was observed in the wake of the attack on the key oil export site. But civilian neighborhoods were also damaged in the assault, with debris from intercepted drones reportedly hitting multiple residential structures in the city, resulting in several hospitalizations of residents.
The attack was significant enough to force air travel delays and cancelations over much of southern Russia, including international routes to Istanbul. Routes to Tel Aviv and the Gulf have already been disrupted due to Trump's 'Operation Epic Fury' targeting Iran.
As for this latest drone attack among many targeting Russian oil sites of late, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has owned up to it, saying, "together with other components of the Defense Forces, struck Russian warships, air defense systems, and oil infrastructure in the port of Novorossiysk."

Russia said on Monday that five people had been injured, 20 buildings damaged, and a fire at a fuel terminal extinguished after what it said was a massive overnight Ukrainian drone attack on the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk.
An official at Ukraine's SBU security service said Ukrainian drones had struck the Sheskharis oil terminal at the port, hitting six of its seven loading facilities, and that Russian warships had also been hit. Ukraine's General Staff said a naval base had also been struck, along with an S-400 air defense radar station.

Saudi Arabia Shuts Down Its Largest Refinery After Iran Attack
Multiple outlets reported on Monday that the Ras Tanura oil refinery in Saudi Arabia had temporarily shut down after dramatic images surfaced of smoke billowing from the facility following an Iranian attack.
Bloomberg News and the Times of Israel both reported that sources close to the facility were shutting it down to assess the damage from what is believed to be an Iranian drone attack. Reuters published images that appeared to show workers at the refinery evacuating locals around the complex as part of the shutdown.
“Aramco shut the 550,000 barrel-per-day Ras Tanura plant, on Monday as a precaution while assessing damage,” Bloomberg shared. The report added that the Saudi government confirmed that a “limited” fire had erupted in the refinery.

US Attorney Comey halted NM AG sex trafficking probe into Epstein ranch in 2019
With a New Mexico legislative investigation underway into a ranch that was used as a staging ground to traffic and sexually assault children, files released by the Department of Justice show that a U.S. attorney in New York halted a state attorney general investigation in 2019 and no federal, state or county criminal searches of the property took place.
Jeffrey Epstein was convicted in a Florida state court in 2008 on child prostitution charges after taking a controversial plea deal. He served 18 months in prison. Multiple women then came forward alleging he sexually assaulted and trafficked them and sued. In 2019, Epstein was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges but did not stand trial because of his death.
One year later, his coconspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell, was charged with sex trafficking and abusing girls she procured for Epstein and his clients. By December 2021, she was found guilty on multiple charges and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence. Epstein’s clients and associates haven’t been prosecuted. Public outrage led to Congress passing a law requiring the Department of Justice to publish documents related to Epstein. So far, more than 3 million heavily redacted files have been released.
The Epstein files have been the focus of congressional hearings, campaigns and resulted in several high-profile people resigning. The King of England’s younger brother, Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on Thursday on charges of misconduct in public office for his alleged role in an Epstein child sex trafficking ring, charges he denies.
This week, a New Mexico House Special Investigative Committee launched an investigation into Epstein’s Zorro ranch now owned by Texas businessman Don Huffines after learning of more criminality alleged in the files. Lawmakers also said residents of the Santa Fe community had long alleged crimes were being committed there and no state legislative investigation had been conducted, The Center Square reported.
Epstein’s Virgin Islands company, Cypress, Inc., purchased the property from New Mexico’s former three-time Democratic Gov. Bruce King in 1993. The property surrounding the ranch includes state land and King family-owned land. After Epstein was indicted in 2005, campaign contributions he made to New Mexico Democrats were returned, including by former Gov. Bill Richardson and then attorney general candidate Gary King, Bruce King’s son, The Santa Fe New Mexican reported.

FBI Computer System Hacked, Millions of Epstein Files Wiped
A sworn declaration buried in the Trump administration’s recent release of millions of “Epstein Files” documents reveals that an FBI computer system hack resulted in the destruction of roughly 100 terabytes of Jeffrey Epstein-related data.
The September 2024 declaration from FBI agent Aaron Spivack states that a massive breach of the FBI’s New York Field Office (NYFO) systems on Super Bowl Sunday in 2023 led to the Bureau losing access to approximately 500 terabytes of data.
100 terabytes of this data could not be recovered and was permanently erased.
The document had reportedly received little public attention until it was highlighted by independent journalists.
“500 Terabytes of Data Was Gone”
Spivack worked for more than a decade in the FBI’s Domestic Terrorism and Child Exploitation squads, including the Violent Crimes Against Children (VCAC) unit.
He described discovering the intrusion the day after it occurred.
According to his sworn testimony, when he logged into his work computer, he “noticed it had been restarted” and saw a text file indicating part of his network had been compromised, along with an email address to contact.
After running antivirus software, Spivack learned it “identified one potential threat,” but his administrative privileges had already been removed.
He was later told the threat may have been a “booby-trap” left by a hacker.
Soon after, Spivack and the IT staff realized their main server was down and that other servers were malfunctioning.
As they combed through log files, they “noticed strange IP activity” originating from two IP addresses.
“The activity included combing through certain files pertaining to the Epstein investigation,” Spivack stated.
