New details have emerged in the mysterious disappearance of a retired US Air Force general, including a possible sighting near a popular New Mexico trail.
William Neil McCasland, 68, was last seen around 11am local time on Friday near Quail Run Court NE in Albuquerque, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office.
Friends say McCasland left home without his watch or phone, unusual for the avid hiker and cyclist. They noted he recently completed a 60-mile bike ride and is known to frequent La Luz and nearby trail systems.
A woman on Facebook who said she had reported the information to authorities claimed she may have seen someone matching McCasland’s description around the same time he went missing on Friday near the Whitewash trailhead in Piedra Lisa Canyon.
In a post shared with the Albuquerque Trail Running Crew group, the woman named Mj Davis said the man was standing off to the side near a bridge over the arroyo at the start of the trail.
The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), which is leading the search, later responded in the same thread, reminding users to report tips directly to investigators, but did not publicly dispute the sighting.
McCasland's wife, Susan, posted on Facebook that he vanished midday on Friday, and there has been no sign of him since. '[It] does not seem to have been foul play at all,' Susan added. The Daily Mail has contacted Susan for comment.
A veteran of Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, McCasland previously led both the Phillips Research Site and the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson in Ohio.
Some UFO enthusiasts have linked those facilities to secret studies of advanced aerospace technology and unexplained phenomena, though officials maintain they focus on national security and experimental defense projects.
The New Mexico Search and Rescue told Daily Mail that teams 'were involved in a mission looking for him in the Albuquerque Open Space area Sunday through Monday.'

His Facebook page is filled with pictures showing him skiing and hiking in the mountains of New Mexico.
However, the BCSO issued a Silver Alert, a public notification used to help locate missing seniors or individuals with certain medical conditions, shortly after McCasland went missing.
'Due to his medical issues, law enforcement is concerned for his safety,' the office said.
Daily Mail contacted BCSO and was referred to a statement issued on Tuesday, which says it is coordinating with partners at Kirtland Air Force Base to expand outreach and speed information-sharing that may assist in locating.
Sheriff John Allen said: 'Our priority is finding Mr. McCasland safely.
'Our investigators and search teams are working continuously, and we’re coordinating closely with our local, state, and federal partners.'
'We’re asking the public to help by checking and preserving any security camera footage from the area and reporting any information immediately.'

The FBI told the Daily Mail on Monday that they are also involved in the hunt, but that the Sheriff’s Department is leading the search.
‘The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is involved in this investigation, as it is standard practice for the FBI to assist our local law enforcement partners if we have a tool, tactic, or technique that could benefit their investigations,’ a spokesperson said.
‘The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) is leading this investigation.’
Col. Justin Secrest, commander of Kirtland's 377th Air Base Wing, told the Albuquerque Journal the base is working closely with local law enforcement.
'Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time,' Secrest said.
The BCSO shared a missing person's report for McCasland on Facebook, writing: 'Unknown clothing description and unknown direction of travel.'
By Sunday afternoon, the BCSO said New Mexico Search and Rescue was assisting in the investigation, the Albuquerque Journal reported.
McCasland's name became associated with UFO topics after the 2016 WikiLeaks release of emails from John Podesta, Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman.
In the emails, musician Tom DeLonge, founder of Blink-182 and the UFO-focused To The Stars Academy (TTSA), referenced McCasland multiple times, claiming he had advised him on disclosure matters and helped assemble an advisory team.
DeLonge also suggested on a podcast that he was being advised by McCasland and several named and unnamed insiders to carry out a slow disclosure of UAP information to the American public from US government or contractor sources.
These claims come from DeLonge and have not been confirmed by McCasland or official records.
There is no public evidence that he participated in UFO crash retrievals, reverse-engineering of non-human technology, or classified extraterrestrial programs.
His documented work focused on advanced aerospace research, which has fueled speculation about experimental propulsion and unidentified phenomena in defense circles.

Declassified UFO files reveal giant glowing sphere over military base that's been hidden for 35 years

Declassified documents from over three decades ago have revealed how an encounter with a suspected UFO at the south pole was covered up.
The records unsealed this year by Argentina's Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed an eyewitness account from 1991, when military personnel and civilian researchers in Antarctica detected and then saw a large flying saucer over their base.
Miguel Amaya, a retired Argentine Air Force non-commissioned officer, told UFO investigators in the early 2000s that he was stationed at General San Martín Base, a small scientific and military station on a tiny island in Antarctica in April of that year.
At the start of the polar night, when the sun stays down for months, an alarm went off on the station's riometer, a machine that measures changes in the upper atmosphere.
Despite the three needle pens measuring different heights of the ionosphere, the part of the atmosphere where solar radiation ionizes atoms, all of the needles began drawing the same pattern, which is scientifically impossible.
According to Amaya, outpost personnel claimed that the strange readings could only have been caused by something producing the same energy as a nuclear aircraft carrier or a large city floating over Antarctica.
Hours later, another base member was walking outside during a snowstorm when they allegedly saw 'a huge circle of light' moving slowly and silently right over the building.
The 1991 incident has finally come to light after Amaya claimed he and the other members at General San Martín Base were told never to talk about what they had seen by their superiors.
Over 120 feet of paper was reportedly used during the four-and-a-half hour incident at General San Martín Base, with Amaya revealing that the needles were moving so violently they went off the paper multiple times.
'This equipment started registering normally, but after five minutes, the three indicator needles began to make the same marks, which the engineer explained was impossible,' Amaya said in his CEFORA interview, translated to English.
'At times, these "signals" would cut out, and everything would continue as normal. Then, for periods of ten or fifteen minutes, it would start again, sometimes with such force that the needles would jump off the belt.'
The incredible readings started around 1am local time and carried on through the night. Roughly 16 hours later at 10pm, Amaya said a radio operator from the Argentine Army saw the mysterious craft as he left the base on a walk.
'He noticed a huge circle of light, very dim due to the cloud cover, passing above the base, but still visible, and moving very slowly and silently towards the sea,' Amaya claimed in his testimony.

The meteorological observer noted that by the time the man who saw the UFO could call for the rest of the base to come out and view it, the craft had disappeared.
The three needles on the riometer's graphic recorder were supposed to show independent readings because they measured different aspects of radio wave absorption in the ionosphere, which sits 30 to 600 miles above the surface.
Normally, natural events like solar flares or auroras cause different patterns on each needle, since absorption varies by frequency, with lower frequencies getting absorbed more or at different altitudes than higher ones.
This means the needles should have been drawing distinct patterns on the night the UFO was allegedly spotted. For example, one might have shown stronger spikes while another showed milder changes if this had been a normal phenomenon.
This synchronization could only have taken place if a massive, external energy source was directly overhead, overriding the separate signals of the riometer.
An Argentine civilian UFO research group known as CEFORA pushed for the records to be released under the nation’s public information law.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the original paper rolls, which recorded the strange readings over Antarctica, still exist and have been stored at the Argentine Antarctic Institute.
CEFORA interviewed Amaya about the incident prior to going public with his story on a Spanish radio program in 2009.
CEFORA's director, Andrea Simondini, had been fighting to have the official records of that UFO encounter and others released for more than 15 years.
Now that the records have been unsealed, images proving something unexplainable interfered with the base's riometer have been shared for the first time.
'Now we are going to pursue other cases linked to Antarctica,' Simondini told Uno Entre Ríos.
'This is just the first test case we can verify under this method, and it raises expectations for the continued declassification of other files,' she stressed in a statement translated to English.
In the US, UFO disclosure has also reached a fever pitch, with President Trump ordering Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and the Pentagon to release all documents related to government investigations on the UFOs and extraterrestrial life.
To this point, however, the US has maintained that there has never been any physical evidence found proving that aliens or non-human spacecraft exist.

Mysterious 'glowing orange orbs' seen across parts of regional NSW

Wild theories have emerged as mysterious "glowing orange orbs" were seen in the sky across parts of the NSW Hunter region.
Residents north-west of Newcastle, between Singleton, Cessnock and East Maitland, reported seeing the display on Sunday night.
The lights appeared in the sky one by one and remained there before later disappearing.
Residents have speculated it could be anything from "aliens" to "government drones".
"Everyone should start packing their bags and run for the hills," one person said on social media.
"Wonder if this is the real reason they just made that 'Australia wide' siren that will go off on our phones," another said.
"Not sure if I should report it," a third added.
Some were even worried it may have something to do with the US-Israeli war in Iran.
Hunter MP Dan Repacholi has set the record straight and said the lights were part of a "totally normal" military exercise at the Singleton base.
"Look, I hate to disappoint but it wasn't ET popping into the Hunter for a cheeky wine tour," he said.
"What people were seeing were military illumination flares used during nighttime training exercises at the Singleton Base.
"They're dropped from aircraft with a small parachute attached and burn really bright for a few minutes while slowly drifting down.
"Because of the low cloud cover, the light reflects back down and makes them look like glowing orange orbs just hanging there in the sky."
The Australian Defence Force previously announced it would be conducting ground and air training exercises at the Singleton base between the hours of 8am and 11pm, starting last Wednesday February 25.
The exercises are expected to continue until December 15.
"Members of the public should not be alarmed if they hear increased activity in the area during these periods," defence said.
"This essential training is vital to maintain Australia's military capability."
The Singleton base, which covers 14,000 hectares, includes the Lone Pine Barracks and the Training Area.
It is a key army training facility where all infantry soldiers undertake their initial training and is one of the country's major live-fire and tactical training ranges.

Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison says he has heard reports of an alien ship crashing off the US, so large it can't be moved.
"I don't want to mention the place because I heard this in a closed meeting and I want to maintain my level of security," he added.
Speaking to Newsmax, Burlison expressed frustration that he had not been able to get a look at the alleged ship himself:
“It’s becoming increasingly difficult for me to access facilities that are just a few miles from my office in Washington.”

Greer said he had spoken to a source connected to a secret Pentagon project and that this source specifically knew about an alien craft in the mountains near Seoul, South Korea, so large that “a structure had to be built around it.”
Greer added that several other alien ships had crashed, and some of them were “bigger than a football field.”
He also mentioned another crashed ship near Fort Sill in Oklahoma, for which a structure had also been built to hide its presence from the public.
