Iran's next supreme leader won't 'last long' without my approval, Trump says

Trump said he would work with remnants of the regime.

US says it has hit 3,000 targets in IranPresident Trump says he will accept nothing less than Iran’s unconditional surrender as Iran prepares for a U.S. ground invasion.

As the Iranians get closer to naming their next supreme leader,President Donald Trump said Sunday the new leader "is not going to last long" if the Iranians don't get his approval first.

"He’s going to have to get approval from us," the president told ABC News. "If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long.We want to make sure that we don’t have to go back every 10 years, when you don’t have a president like me that’s not going to do it."

He added, "I don’t want people to have to go back in five years and have to do the same thing again or worse let them have a nuclear weapon."

When asked if he would be willing toapprove someone with ties to the old regime, Trump replied, "I would, in order to choose a good leader I would, yeah, I would. There are numerous people that could qualify."

Seeming to offer yet another justification for this war, Trump said Iran was planning to take over the entire Middle East, and suggested he stopped them from doing so.

"They are a paper tiger. They weren’t a paper tiger a week ago, I’ll tell you. And they were going to attack," he said. "Their plan was to attack the entire Middle East, to take over the entire Middle East."

He also hasn't ruled out sending in special forces to seize Iran's enriched uranium: "Everything is on the table. Everything."

A senior administration official told reporters last week that Iran has enriched enough uranium to get to weapons grade material in 10 days or less. (Witkoff said the Iranians negotiators said is 11 bombs they could produce.)

Much of the uranium is believed to be held at the sites bombed during Operation Midnight Hammer Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow according to the official.

"In theory, if we had physical control of that territory, if we had physical control of those places where it's located, we could send our people in and dilute it on premise," the official said.

Over the weekend, Trump met with the families of the six U.S. fallen soldiers.Did witnessing the dignified transfers give him pause?

"No, not at all," he said. "The parents would be upset if I did that. The parents said to me, every one of them, please sir, win this for my boy, and in one case a young woman, as you know. Please, win this for my child."

He added, "It was a beautiful event. It was a beautiful, beautiful event, where I met the parents. They were devastated but proud."

Trump said he wouldn’t predict how long the war would last when pressed on a timeline.

"I don’t know. I never predict. All I can say is we are ahead of schedule both in terms of lethality and in terms of time," he said.

Last week, the president told reporters this war would last just four to five weeks.

In the interview, the president also dismissed rising gasoline prices as a "little glitch."

"I think it’s fine. It’s a little glitch. We had to take this detour," he said. "I knew exactly what was going to happen with the detour. But the nice part is we sank 44 of their ships which is their entire navy. We’ve knocked out their entire AirForce. We’ve knocked out all of their communications, telecommunications. Their anti-aircraft systems are gone. They have absolutely no defense. All they have is talk."

Some of the president's longtime supporters have raised questions about this operation, but Trump denied there's been any pushback from his base.

"It’s more popular than ever. It’s a very MAGA thing what we’re doing. A very very MAGA thing," he said. "Because otherwise we won’t have a country either, we’ll be hit. And MAGA is all about saving America … I’m at the highest point I’ve ever been with MAGA."

(I don’t think MAGA is loving this, it’s more like we trust and support Trump.)

The Israeli military said on Saturday it struck several fuel storage complexes in Tehran which it said were used by Iran's military forces.

The IDF said Iran's military makes "direct and frequent use of these fuel tanks to operate military infrastructure."

Through them, it said, the Islamic Republic distributes fuel to various consumers, including military entities in Iran.

This video from northern Tehran shows one of the huge fires caused by the Israeli airstrikes.

The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember. We don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won! President DONALD J. TRUMP

DOJ Official Pushes for Cases Against Cuban Leaders, as Trump Eyes Regime Change

The administration used criminal charges against Venezuela’s Maduro as justification for his ouster By Sadie Gurman Follow Updated March 6, 2026 5:17 pm ET

A federal prosecutor in Florida is looking to build criminal cases against leaders of Cuba’s government and Communist Party, according to people familiar with the matter, asPresident Trump has openly suggested the country would be his next target for regime change.

The Trump administration used criminal charges as a justification for the ouster of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

The Trump-appointed U.S. attorney in Miami hascreated a working groupthat includes officials from theTreasury Department, theFederal Bureau of Investigation, and theU.S. Drug EnforcementAdministration to gather evidence for such prosecutions, the people familiar with the matter said. Prosecutors arelooking for potential crimesrelated to drugs, immigration and other violations, they said.

Cuba isn’t seen as a drug trafficking hub. The involvement of Treasury officials suggest prosecutors could be pursuing charges for sanctions violations, legal experts said.

“It could result in arrest warrants which can then be executed by the same means as we saw in Venezuela,” said Evan T. Barr, a former prosecutor now with the law firm Reed Smith.

A spokesperson for U.S. attorney Jason Reding Quiñones didn’t respond to a request for comment. A Justice Department spokesman said, “Federal prosecutors from across the country work every day to pursue justice, which includes efforts to combat transnational crime.”

The move comes at a crucial moment for U.S. relations with Cuba. The Trump administration has imposed a de facto oil blockade on the Communist island by threatening to put tariffs on anyone shipping oil to Cuba.

Administration officials haveassessed that Cuba’s economy is close to collapse and that the government has never been this fragileafter losing a vital benefactor in Maduro.

Trump is also increasingly emboldened after the January raid in Caracas to capture Maduro, who is now being held in a Brooklyn federal jail awaiting trial on drug-trafficking charges. He has pleaded not guilty. Maduro’s lawyer has asked a judge to toss out the indictment and the case likely won’t go to trial for months, if not years….

This AI agent freed itself and started secretly mining crypto

AnAI agent went rogueandstarted a side hustle mining cryptocurrencies, according to a new research paper published by an Alibaba-affiliated team.

Why it matters: AI agents don't always stick to their human's instructions — and that can have real-world consequences.

• Cryptocurrency, or digital money, offers AI agents a pathway into the economy. They can set up their own businesses, draft contracts and exchange funds.

Driving the news: A new research paper from an Alibaba-affiliated research team said it discovered an AI agent attempting unauthorized cryptocurrency mining during training — a surprise behavior that triggered internal security alarms.

• The researchers — who were building a new AI agent called ROME — saidthey found "unanticipated" and spontaneous behaviors emerge "without any explicit instruction and, more troublingly, outside the bounds of the intended sandbox."

• The agent also made a "reverse SSH tunnel" — essentially opening a hidden backdoor from the inside of the system to an outside computer, the study said.

• "Notably, these events were not triggered by prompts requesting tunneling or mining," the report said.

In response, the researchers added tighter restrictions for the model and improved its training process to stop unsafe behavior from happening again.

• The research team, and Alibaba, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Flashback:We saw something similar with the Moltbook saga.

• Moltbook, a Reddit-style social network, showed AI agents chatting with each other about the work they did for humans. They talked about crypto, too.

Zoom out: Fears about the impact of AI has moved markets and incited viral discourse about doomsday scenarios.

• Earlier this week, Google Gemini was cited in a wrongful-death suit alleging the chatbot led a Florida man into delusional behavior, which ultimately led to him take his own life.

• Dan Botero, head of engineering at Anon, an AI integration platform, built an OpenClaw agent that decided without prompting to find a job, Axios' Megan Morrone reported.

• Anthropic's Claude model drew backlash in May 2025 after its own researchers found that its Claude 4 Opus model had the ability to conceal intentions and take action to keep itself alive.

The bottom line: AI agents going beyond their prompts are no longer rare.

Dangerous, Dirty And Deadly: Real Jobs Of The Wild West

Frontier cowboys, coal miners, buffalo hunters, prostitutes, saloon keepers and lawmen did dangerous, dirty work in the frontier West. Dynamite, disease, stampedes and shootouts made death an everyday occupational hazard.

Renée Jean

March 07, 2026

Think your job is rough? Try hauling sticks of unstable, weeping dynamite up a mountain to blast open a tunnel, riding a half-wild horse through a blizzard, or emptying chamber pots in the dead of night.

Life in the Wild West was, as Buffalo Bill Center of the West historian Paul Hutton puts it, “tough, grim work” in a frontier world where everything was inherently dangerous and there wasn’t much in the way of either cleanliness or comfort to soften life's harsh edges.

“People often say to me, ‘Wouldn’t you love to go back and live in the Wild West?” Hutton said. “No. Not a bit. I love indoor plumbing. I love electricity.”

From coal mines to cattle ranges and back-alley brothels in between, many of the West’s most iconic jobs were also among its dirtiest and deadliest.

Let’s take one of the most iconic, and most common, first: The cowboy.

Western movies have glamorized the cowboy, but his job during frontier times was around-the-clock dangerous.

There were so many ways to get injured,” Hutton said. “It was difficult, physical work, and just the sheer problem of getting thrown off horses.

"Now we celebrate it, but it was a pretty common problem then, and even a minor break is going to put you out of commission for a while.”

Mexico and USA Begin Bilateral Preparations to Dissolve USMCA Without CanadaKEK

March 8, 2026 | Sundance |

One of the most curious aspects to the predictable USMCA review, ie. dissolution, has been the incapacity of the Canadian government or trade delegation to accept the United States is going to create two distinctlydifferent bilateral trade agreements and eliminate the trilateral USMCA.

For 16 months the Canadians have refused to fathom the reality of what is going to happen this year.

The Canadians just cannot believe it is possible they will be forced to negotiate a free trade agreement without the cover of a multilateral construct. It has been remarkable to watch their dissonance.

Last week President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum held a phone call.At the conclusion of the call, Sheinbaum publicly asserted the reality the Canadians just refuse to accept.

MEXICO – Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters during her morning news briefing on Wednesday that her U.S. counterpart,Donald Trump, is open to doing away with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement (USMCA) and replace it with individual trade deals with each country.

[…] “There might be revisions that create bilateral deals instead of involving the three countries because some things are more important between Mexico and the United States or between Canada and the United States,” said Sheinbaum. “Not everything has to be trilateral.”

Mexico’s president said the subject was brought up by Trump during a Tuesday phone conversation. […]According to Sheinbaum, her country is ready to consider possible changes. (read more)

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney finally started to realize President Trump was likelyto ignore Canada and begin direct discussions with Sheinbaum. So, Carney went to Mexico to try and get assurances from Sheinbaum that Mexico would not proceed without Canadian interests in mind.

WOW: Jesse Jackson Jr. just DROPPED this at his father's memorial:

"I listened to three United States presidents who did not know Jesse Jackson."

He added: His father had a "tense relationship with the political order" because of the demands of justice—not race or party. Yet they politicized it anyway.

Talking about Obama, Biden, and Clinton turning the service into a political rally. Dad deserved better.

Loud blast heard near US embassy in Oslo, Norway, police say

By REUTERS

A loud blast was heard near the US embassy in western Oslo, triggering a large police response, investigators say.

It is not immediately clear what caused the blast, which happened at around 1 a.m. local time, or who was involved, the Oslo police department says in a statement.

“The police are in a dialogue with the embassy and there are no reports of any injured persons,” the statement says.

Smoke was seen rising from the area around the embassy compound, eyewitnesses told Norwegian daily Verdens Gang.

The embassy did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of regular business hours.

U.N. Ambassador Waltz: ‘Iran Has Been at War with Us’

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” U.N. Ambassador Michael Waltz said Iran had been at war with the United States for many years.

Waltz said, “I can tell you as a veteran, you know, it breaks my heart in so many ways that we have had to deal with this threat across the Middle East for 47 years.

And I want to be clear, the Iranian regime started this war in 1979, under Jimmy Carter, and thank God for President Trump.

He is taking the old, decisive action that so many of his predecessors have failed to do, to end it, and to end this threat to the American people and our allies once and for all.”

Host Kristen Welker asked, “Do you describe this as a war against Iran?”

Waltz said, “Well, I describe it as Iran has been at war with us, as I just said.”

Welker asked, “So it is a war?”

Waltz said, “President Trump is ending it.

I will leave it to the lawyers and those who deal with Congress in terms of the War Powers Act, which every administration has viewed as unconstitutional.

That said, Secretary Rubio has been there day after day and week after week in recent months to appropriately brief congressional leaders.

But I’ll tell you know, who does believe, that they are being attacked, it is the soldiers, that have been buried for many, many years as a result of Iranian attacks and the proxy attacks.”

Nearly 400 killed in Israeli strikes in Lebanon since Monday, health minister says

Nearly 400 people have been killed since Israel started its campaign in Lebanon against Hezbollah earlier this week, the country's health minister said.

Lebanese Health Minister Rakan Nasser said 394 people have been killed and 1,130 injured wounded since Monday.

The deceased include 83 children and 42 women, while the wounded include 254 children and 274 women, according to Nasser.

"The attacks are not targeting soldiers and facilities as they claim, but civilians," Nasser said during a briefing today.
