Iran's next supreme leader won't 'last long' without my approval, Trump says

As the Iranians get closer to naming their next supreme leader,President Donald Trump said Sunday the new leader "is not going to last long" if the Iranians don't get his approval first.

 

"He’s going to have to get approval from us," the president told ABC News. "If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long.We want to make sure that we don’t have to go back every 10 years, when you don’t have a president like me that’s not going to do it."

 

He added, "I don’t want people to have to go back in five years and have to do the same thing again or worse let them have a nuclear weapon."

 

When asked if he would be willing toapprove someone with ties to the old regime, Trump replied, "I would, in order to choose a good leader I would, yeah, I would. There are numerous people that could qualify."

 

Seeming to offer yet another justification for this war, Trump said Iran was planning to take over the entire Middle East, and suggested he stopped them from doing so.

 

"They are a paper tiger. They weren’t a paper tiger a week ago, I’ll tell you. And they were going to attack," he said. "Their plan was to attack the entire Middle East, to take over the entire Middle East."

 

He also hasn't ruled out sending in special forces to seize Iran's enriched uranium: "Everything is on the table. Everything."

 

A senior administration official told reporters last week that Iran has enriched enough uranium to get to weapons grade material in 10 days or less. (Witkoff said the Iranians negotiators said is 11 bombs they could produce.)

 

Much of the uranium is believed to be held at the sites bombed during Operation Midnight Hammer Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow according to the official.

 

"In theory, if we had physical control of that territory, if we had physical control of those places where it's located, we could send our people in and dilute it on premise," the official said.

 

Over the weekend, Trump met with the families of the six U.S. fallen soldiers.Did witnessing the dignified transfers give him pause?

 

"No, not at all," he said. "The parents would be upset if I did that. The parents said to me, every one of them, please sir, win this for my boy, and in one case a young woman, as you know. Please, win this for my child."

 

He added, "It was a beautiful event. It was a beautiful, beautiful event, where I met the parents.They were devastated but proud."

 

Trump said he wouldn’t predict how long the war would last when pressed on a timeline.

 

"I don’t know. I never predict. All I can say is we are ahead of schedule both in terms of lethality and in terms of time," he said.

 

Last week, the president told reporters this war would last just four to five weeks.

 

In the interview, the president also dismissed rising gasoline prices as a "little glitch."

 

"I think it’s fine. It’s a little glitch. We had to take this detour," he said. "I knew exactly what was going to happen with the detour. But the nice part is we sank 44 of their ships which is their entire navy. We’ve knocked out their entire AirForce. We’ve knocked out all of their communications, telecommunications. Their anti-aircraft systems are gone. They have absolutely no defense. All they have is talk."

 

Some of the president's longtime supporters have raised questions about this operation, but Trump denied there's been any pushback from his base.

 

"It’s more popular than ever. It’s a very MAGA thing what we’re doing. A very very MAGA thing," he said. "Because otherwise we won’t have a country either, we’ll be hit. And MAGA is all about saving America … I’m at the highest point I’ve ever been with MAGA."

The Israeli military said on Saturday it struck several fuel storage complexes in Tehran which it said were used by Iran's military forces.

 

The IDF said Iran's military makes "direct and frequent use of these fuel tanks to operate military infrastructure."

 

Through them, it said, the Islamic Republic distributes fuel to various consumers, including military entities in Iran.

Protests have erupted in several areas of the Cuban capital after residents endured more than 60 hours without electricity, triggering growing anger toward the country's communist government and worsening economic conditions.

 

According to videos circulating on social media and local reports, the demonstrations began late at night in several neighborhoods of Havana, where frustrated residents took to the streets banging pots, chanting slogans, and demanding solutions to the prolonged blackouts.

 

Witnesses say crowds gathered spontaneously as frustration reached a breaking point after nearly three days without electricity in some areas. The outages have left homes without refrigeration, lighting, internet access, or ventilation in the island's tropical heat.

 

According to reports, residents shouted “Electricity and food!” and “Freedom!”, echoing demands heard during previous anti-government demonstrations on the island.

NASA’s hiring initiatives: Bring contractors in-house and get new talent with ‘NASA Force’

NASA is hiring new talent to rebuild its “core competencies” and meet the agency’s aggressive moon deadlines.

This push could reinvigorate the workforce and help NASA launch its moon rocket about every 10 months.

But the timing comes just two months after thousands of civil servants received their final paycheck from last year’s buyouts, suggesting the workforce reductions were not conducive to NASA’s long-term goals.

 

“I’m encouraged to see what appears to be a rectification of what I believe was a serious strategic mistake last year,” Thomas González Roberts, director of the Engineering Space Policy Laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology, wrote in an email.

“That said, this new approach won’t immediately reverse some of the negative effects of that decision.”

 

NASA has two hiring initiatives underway. One will turn government contractors into civil servants. Houston’s mission control, for instance, has “a lot of contractors that should be civil servants,” NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman told CNBC.

The other initiative is a newly announced “NASA Force” that will attempt to attract top minds from the private sector for two-year terms. Isaacman hopes these workers will strengthen NASA’s younger talent pipeline.

“We need some of that talent from industry to come in, short periods of time, and help season our workforce,” Isaacman said in his CNBC interview.

 

NASA experienced a turbulent 2025. It didn’t have a Senate-confirmed leader for most of the year, there was a 43-day government shutdown and nearly 4,000 people participated in two deferred resignation programs.

Isaacman became the NASA administrator in December after his second confirmation hearing. He spent a few months reviewing the agency’s challenges and opportunities.

And then he began announcing some changes, particularly around NASA’s Artemis Program that is returning humans to the moon.

 

Artemis II will remain unchanged, launching astronauts on a 10-day mission around the moon as soon as April.

That was going to be followed by the Artemis III moon-landing mission in 2028, but Isaacman announced last week that Artemis III will test hardware in low-Earth `orbit in 2027. Artemis IV will land on the moon in 2028.

NASA needs to launch its Space Launch System rocket and Orion spacecraft more often to maintain muscle memory, Isaacman said. He also wanted an additional mission to test commercial partners’ landers and spacesuits before taking them to the moon.

 

Rebuilding NASA’s “core competencies” will help with both of those initiatives — and others, Isaacman said.

“We outsourced a lot of our core competencies,” Isaacman said this week during the American Dynamism Summit. “Industry consolidated.

We let stakeholders set the priorities to serve constituent interests and adopted policies in the attempt to make everyone happy — maybe make everyone happy other than the American people and really people all over the world that were waiting for the headlines that only NASA was capable of making.”

NASA Force was created through the U.S. Office of Personnel Management’s Tech Force program. NASA will pay the participants’ salaries.

They can return to the private sector after their term, or they might be able to stay on as civil servants. It is not yet known how many people will be accepted through the program.

“Rather than targeting a single number, we’ll use NASA Force to match critical skills to priority work,” a NASA spokesperson said in an email.

“NASA is conducting a workforce assessment to identify technical and operational expertise that enable mission execution.”

 

The spokesperson said individuals with previous government service — such as NASA workers who took last year’s buyouts — can apply to NASA Force.

Accepting the buyout was a difficult decision for many NASA employees. Keith Cowing, a watchdog who previously worked at NASA and has edited NASAWatch.com since 1996, said employees would call him at 2 a.m. in tears.

He said many people who took the buyout don’t want to return to NASA — they say they’re happy to be gone, they were going to retire soon anyway, they found private-sector work — but others have asked for more clarity surrounding NASA Force.

Some early and mid-career employees took the buyout because they were afraid of being laid off.

 

“The irony of letting a whole bunch of qualified people go and then saying, ‘Oh, we need people, new people, to hire back,’ it's not lost on me,” Cowing said. “However, I think they seem to be going about this in a structured way.”

Greg Autry, associate provost for space commercialization and strategy at the University of Central Florida, recognized the organizational theory behind NASA’s buyouts and more recent hiring announcements.

 

He said NASA is a place where people work until they retire. There hasn’t been enough “DNA transfer” from the private sector.

“Giving some folks the opportunity to move on with a generous exit plan and filling new seats with people who have had different experiences can bring new thinking and a sense of change the agency really needed,”

Autry said in an email. “That isn’t to say that some great talent wasn’t lost in the process, and I wish the experience for everyone had been smoother and less traumatic than what we saw in 2025.”

 

It won’t be easy to attract these super-skilled workers to NASA Force with government pay, Autry said.

And it will take time to rebuild trust, added Roberts, with the Georgia Institute of Technology. Yet he commended the agency for taking a hard look at its workforce.

“What Administrator Isaacman seems to be signaling — whether intentionally or not — is that the workforce reduction from last year is incompatible with the scale of NASA’s ambitions moving forward,” Roberts said.

“NASA’s goals are enormous and long-term, and they require a strong, stable workforce to achieve them.”

Sir Richard Branson has warned that Britain must prepare for war in space and to 'dominate' the industry for the sake of national security.

The British billionaire, 75, gave the eerie warning to crowds at Space-Comm Expo Europe in London this week.

Speaking via video chat at the space conference, he said: 'I'm afraid we're going to have to try to dominate it as far as … future wars are concerned, and hopefully work with Americans, but be ready to stand on our own two feet.'

 

Sir Richard said the UK is 'capable' of 'matching' competitors China, Russia and the US to dominate space, but added that government support for space companies is 'another matter'.

'It would be wise for the Government, particularly in this age with wars coming back again, to invest in the right projects,' he said.

Maj Gen Tedman called on Britain to be 'more assertive', adding: 'To keep pace with the threats and tech we need to move much faster and exploit commercial industry. The direction is clear. The time is now. The cost of inaction is rising.'

 

Many countries are already utilising space as a war-fighting domain with satellites for spying, encrypting communications, guiding missiles and ensuring the smooth running of an advanced economy.

Several countries have Space Commands within their militaries including the US, India, Russia, China and the UK - the latter based at RAF High Wycombe.

For this decade at least, a war in space would primarily be about war on Earth.

 

Given that technologically advanced powers now rely so much on space, it is central to modern military thinking.

Without satellites, the commanders don't know where to position their aircraft carriers, long-range missiles and troops. Nor do they know precisely where the enemy is.

There is an existing Outer Space Treaty, however this is a relic of the 1960s and has not been updated to reflect modern military technology - or the emergence of private enterprises such as the US's Space X and Blue Origin, or China's i-Space.

 

The treaty prohibits placing nuclear weapons in space, for example, but makes no mention of conventional weapons.

Nor, given they had yet to be invented, does it even mention laser weapons.

We also lack guidelines about how close one country's satellite can get to another's which, given that parts of some countries' nuclear early warning systems are in their satellites, would seem imperative.

 

On Wednesday, Space Minister Baroness Lloyd of Effra announced a £500million investment in Britain's national space programme, bringing total government funding to £2.8billion between now and 2030.

This lagged far behind Germany's planned €35billion (£30.4billion) investment in the next four years.

 

The US now finds itself in a new space race with China, with both nations planning to land astronauts on the moon before 2030 and later build bases on its surface.

Chinese satellites have been spotted 'dogfighting' in space, practising moving aggressively within less than a mile of each other suggesting they are preparing for space warfare.

Elsewhere, Russian intelligence satellites have stalked orbiting European spacecraft, prompting suspicions Moscow is developing an anti-satellite weapon.

A spokesperson for U.S. attorney Jason Reding Quiñones didn’t respond to a request for comment. A Justice Department spokesman said, “Federal prosecutors from across the country work every day to pursue justice, which includes efforts to combat transnational crime.”

 

The move comes at a crucial moment for U.S. relations with Cuba. The Trump administration has imposed a de facto oil blockade on the Communist island by threatening to put tariffs on anyone shipping oil to Cuba.

 

Administration officials haveassessed that Cuba’s economy is close to collapse and that the government has never been this fragileafter losing a vital benefactor in Maduro.

 

Trump is also increasingly emboldened after the January raid in Caracas to capture Maduro, who is now being held in a Brooklyn federal jail awaiting trial on drug-trafficking charges. • The researchers — who were building a new AI agent called ROME — saidthey found "unanticipated" and spontaneous behaviors emerge "without any explicit instruction and, more troublingly, outside the bounds of the intended sandbox."

 

• The agent also made a "reverse SSH tunnel" — essentially opening a hidden backdoor from the inside of the system to an outside computer, the study said.

A former NASA astronaut has explained why humanity is 'living a lie' after he spent a staggering 178 days in space on the International Space Station (ISS).

Ron Garan orbited planet Earth 2,842 times after leaving his family on April 4, 2011. Before he returned home on September 16 of that year, the astronaut saw a lot of things.

 

Ron has since gone on to detail some of the biggest revelations he made from his near six-month trip in space, including how he saw the world from space.

Speaking to Big Think, he said: "When we see our planet from the perspective of space, certain things become undeniably clear.

"We keep trying to deal with issues such as global warning, deforestation, biodiversity loss as stand alone issues, when in reality they're just symptoms of the underlying root problem.

"The problem is that we don't see ourselves as planetary."

 

One thing that struck Ron the most, however, was how differently Earth looked while he was in orbit.

He explained: "I didn't see the economy. But since our human-made systems treat everything, including the very life-support systems of our planet, as the wholly owned subsidiary of the global economy, it's obvious from the vantage point of space that we're living a lie."

 

Described as the 'Overview Effect', Ron's thoughts is based on the sensation humans feel when they look down at our home.

"When I looked out of the window of the International Space Station, I saw the paparazzi like flashes of lightening storms, I saw dancing curtains of auroras that seemed so close it was as if we could reach out and touch them, and I saw the unbelievable thinness of our planet's atmosphere," the former NASA astronaut went on to explain.

 

Ron then came to the 'sobering realization' that our planet is only being kept going by a 'paper thin layer'.

"I saw an iridescent biosphere teaming with life, I didn't see an economy, but since our human-made systems treat everything, including the very life-support systems of our planet as the […] subsidiary of the global economy, it's obvious from the vanish point of space that we're living a lie," he added.

 

Since his return to Earth, Ron has been working hard to ensure we 'work towards a cleaner, safer and more peaceful planet'.

"We're not going to have peace on Earth until we recognize the basic fact of the interrelated structure of all reality," he concluded.

Xi sends warning to ‘corrupt elements’ in Chinese army

Chinese President Xi Jinping has vowed to continue the campaign against corruption within the military after several senior commanders were dismissed over allegations of graft and misconduct.

The president made his warning during a speech before delegates from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the People’s Armed Police on Saturday.

 

“There must be no place in the military for those who are disloyal to the party, nor any place for corrupt elements,” Xi said.

He called for strict oversight in “key areas such as fund flows, the exercise of power, and quality control” during the country’s next five-year plan set to be greenlit later this month.

A Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai late on March 7, the region's emergency task force reported.

The Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the report.

 

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that it had shot down four Ukrainian drones over Krasnodar Krai overnight.

The fire at the oil depot was also confirmed by local Telegram channels and eyewitness reports.

 

The blaze occurred at a storage and transshipment facility belonging to the Southern Oil Company in the city of Armavir. Residents reported hearing explosions and observing air defense activity shortly before the fire broke out.

Videos and messages circulating on local social media showed flames rising from the facility as emergency services arrived at the scene.

 

Krasnodar Krai, located in southwestern Russia near the Black Sea, has repeatedly been targeted by drone strikes amid Ukraine’s ongoing campaign against Russian energy and military infrastructure.

Russian drone strikes Ukrainian train with 200 passengers on board

A Russian drone hit a passenger train in Ukraine's Sumy Oblast on March 8, the media outlet Suspilne reported, citing the regional prosecutor's office.

The attack took place at around 5:30 a.m. local time, according to Suspilne.

The train at the time had 200 passengers on board.

 

Local authorities reported no injuries at the time, and passengers were redirected to their final stations. Train operator Ukrzaliznytsia, or Ukrainian Railways, told Suspilne that they planned no changes to the route.

The strike was part of a broader overnight aerial campaign on Ukrainian railways that hit a number of junctions in western Ukraine as well, with Ukrzaliznytsia reporting damage in Rivne, Zhytomyr, and Vinnytsia Oblasts.

The drone was preliminarily identified as a Lancet, one of Russia's preferred strike drones.

 

Ukrainian railways have had a rough go of the past several months as Russia has ramped up its attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure near the frontline.

The campaign has not spared civilians. A similar drone strike at the end of January killed five people and injured two others in Kharkiv Oblast, Sumy's neighbor to the southeast.

IDF attacks Iran aerospace headquarters, sets back dual nuke use space launching tech

The IDF attacked Iran's Aerospace Headquarters for launching satellites on Saturday, technology which could potentially be incorporated in future attempts to develop nuclear weapons that could be fired into space and hit the US.

The headquarters had been used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to promote its aerospace efforts, including the 2022 launch of the Khayyam satellite, which Iran successfully launched using a Russian Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

When that satellite successfully launched into space, it presented serious national security and intelligence concerns for Israel and the West.

 

Until yesterday’s attack on the site, Israeli officials were concerned that both the Khayyam and the latest space cooperation between Moscow and Tehran would increase Iran’s capabilities to launch ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles), as well as improve its monitoring of targets in the Jewish state and throughout the region in the short-term.

An additional concern for Jerusalem was that Khayyam and future Russian-Iranian satellites could reduce Israeli spies’ ability to penetrate the Islamic Republic’s border with operations that hold back its nuclear progress.

Israel strikes Iranian satellite program site

Earlier in 2022, The Washington Post reported that Russia was preparing to provide Iran with an advanced satellite that would enable it to track potential military targets across the Middle East, sending shudders through much of the region.

The Washington Post report had said that the new satellite would allow "continuous monitoring of facilities ranging from Persian Gulf oil refineries and Israeli military bases to Iraqi barracks that house US troops," citing three unnamed sources – a current and a former US official, and a senior Middle Eastern government official briefed on the sale.

 

On December 28, 2025, just before the protests in Iran began, Iran simultaneously launched three domestically developed satellites into space from a Russian launch site, just as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was on his way to meet with US President Donald Trump to discuss the Iranian threat and other regional issues.

Israeli officials interpreted the launches, which were announced multiple times in advance, as a show of the Islamic Republic's defiance of attempts by Jerusalem and Washington to impose a new balance of power on it following the 12 Day War in June.

 

Prior to the June war, Tehran had conducted numerous satellite launches in recent years, some on its own and others in conjunction with Moscow.

During that period, both Israel and America viewed these satellite launches as immensely dangerous. This is due to there being a potential dual-use threat and Iran’s move toward producing nuclear weapons.

However, following the June war, Iran's nuclear program was left in shambles. This left the significance of the satellite launches as more of an open question.

 

There are still three ways that the launches could pose a threat to Israel and the US.

The first would be that, even if other aspects of Iran's nuclear program were destroyed or frozen, progress for ICBM technology would mean that if the Islamic Republic were to make progress in other areas, this aspect of the program might be more advanced and ready.

Secondly, Iran has attacked Israel with three massive barrages of ballistic missiles multiple times since 2024, raising awareness of the extent of its conventional missile threat separate from the nuclear threat.

If Iran improved its ICBM capabilities, its ballistic missiles may eventually pose a direct threat to Washington and Western Europe, as it already did to Jerusalem, the Saudis, and Eastern Europe.

Third: some satellites are used for surveillance, and along with Russia, Iran might significantly up its game in being able to spy on Israel and on Israeli military units.

 

Up until now, Israel’s major advantage over Iran has been intelligence from its surveillance satellites. There were concerns that Iran could even the score in that arena.

Vahid Yazdanian, head of the Iranian Space Research Institute and a Deputy Communications and Information Technology Minister at the time, said the three satellites – Paya (Tolu-3), Zafar-2, and the second prototype of Kowsar-1.5 – were built by the private sector.

 

Despite Iranian progress, Israel has been highly successful in achieving surprise attacks against the Islamic regime during the current war, and the latest attacks may remove or heavily delay any potential ICBM in the future.

It was unclear why the site had not been attacked earlier during the current war.

Russian local authorities announced on Sunday that a woman was killed and more than 10 people were injured on Saturday evening in a drone attack carried out by Ukrainian forces targeting multi-story residential buildings in the city of Vasilyivka, Zaporizhzhia Oblast.

The Russian news agency TASS quoted Natalia Romanichenko, head of the Vasilyivka City Council, as saying that she expects the death toll to rise as the debris removal operation continues.

 

Romaniichenko explained that the first strike occurred around 10:00 PM, resulting in the near-total destruction of a residential building and the collapse of the entrance to another building on a neighboring street.

A fire also broke out, and windows in surrounding buildings were shattered. She confirmed that all the injured were taken to the regional hospital, which was on standby, and that none of their conditions were life-threatening.

The same official noted that Ukrainian forces continued to launch additional drone strikes during the rescue operations, in what appeared to be a deliberate targeting of civil defense teams while they were carrying out their duties.

 

She commended the resilience of the emergency personnel who continued their work despite the ongoing airstrikes and the presence of drones in the airspace.

Smoke was seen rising from the area around the embassy compound, eyewitnesses told Norwegian daily Verdens Gang.

TOKYO, March 8 (Reuters) – A senior Japanese parliament member said on Sunday that the government instructed a national oil reserve storage site to prepare for a possible release of crude, as the Iran crisis has cut supply from the Middle East.

 

Japan relies on the Middle East for around 95% of its crude supplies, with roughly 70% shipped through the Strait of Hormuz, which ?has been effectively closed following U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran.

 

Akira Nagatsuma, a member of the Centrist Reform Alliance opposition party, told Reuters that an official from the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC) at the Shibushi national oil storage base said it had received the directive from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) on Friday.

 

Details such as the timing of the release remain unclear, Nagatsuma said.

 

It was not immediately clear if any other storage bases received the same instruction.

 

An official at ANRE, under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), declined to comment. The Shibushi base was not immediately available for comment, while JOGMEC could not be reached outside office hours.

 

The Shibushi site in southern Japan is one of the locations where the country’s strategic oil stocks are stored.

 

Japan holds emergency oil reserves equivalent to 254 days of domestic consumption – among the world’s largest – including government-owned stockpiles, private-sector inventories, and jointly held reserves with oil-producing countries.

 

Tokyo last drew down oil from its reserves in 2022 as part of an International Energy Agency (IEA)-led coordinated release following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

 

Industry Minister Ryosei Akazawa said early last week that there were no specific plans to release oil reserves, but the ministry would continue to monitor the crude oil supply situation closely, working in coordination with the IEA.

 

Kyodo news agency reported on Friday that the Japanese government is considering using part of its national oil reserves amid the ongoing Iran crisis that has disrupted global energy supplies and may do so in coordination with other countries or even on its own.

US Oil Posts Biggest Weekly Gain Ever As Iran War Rages On

Mar 6, 2026(Bloomberg) –US oil posted the biggest weekly gain on record as the war in Iran upends critical energy market flows, with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz at a near-total halt.

 

West Texas Intermediate added 12% on Friday to settle just below $91 a barrel, the largest daily jump in almost six years, while Brent closed near $93 a barrel. Iran warned that the European Union is a “legitimate” target if it joins the war, adding to bullish momentum.

 

The Wall Street Journal reported that Kuwait has begun cutting production at some oil fields after running out of places to store bottled-up crude, the latest sign of a hit to regional output. Citigroup Inc. estimates that the oil market is losing 7 million to 11 million barrels of daily supply due to the disruption through Hormuz.

 

Crude surged even after US President Donald Trump signaled “imminent action” to reduce pressure on prices, while National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett denied that the White House would tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, a cache of crude held in vast underground caverns, anytime soon.

 

“We’ve got a whole flow chart of tools to use,” Hassett said during a Bloomberg Television interview.

 

So far, the Treasury Department has eased curbs on India’s ability to buy Russian oil and the US International Development Finance Corp. announced a $20 billion plan for maritime reinsurance, including war risk, in the Gulf region.

 

Japan was also reportedly considering tapping national reserves. No action has yet been taken, though market participants are speculating that a coordinated release from multiple nations’ emergency oil inventories could be enacted to maximize impact.

 

Still, with no sign of a let-up in hostilities, Goldman Sachs Group Inc. flagged the risk of scenarios for oil topping $100 a barrel in the case of prolonged disruption. European diesel futures headed for a weekly gain of more than 50%, and central banks signaled unease about a possible resurgence in inflation.

 

There has been a “near-total” pause in commercial traffic through Hormuz, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center, a multinational naval advisory group. The collapse stems from “security threats, insurance constraints, operational uncertainty and effective disruptions.”

 

Some shippers are booking smaller vessels to transport oil from the US Gulf Coast to Asia as costs soar for the massive tankers typically used on those routes. Meanwhile, only nine empty VLCCs remain available to store crude from major Middle East producers. Once those are filled, onshore storage tanks will fill rapidly.

 

Oil markets have been rocked by the conflict, which has ensnared about a dozen nations since the US and Israel launched their campaign on Feb. 28. As the fighting intensified, not only has shipping through the key strait all but ended, but some producers are starting to curb output. Refineries and tankers have also been hit.

 

Qatar’s energy minister told the Financial Times that crude could soar to $150 a barrel in two to three weeks if tankers and other merchant vessels are unable to pass through Hormuz.

 

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told NBC News his country had no intention to negotiate and was ready for a ground invasion, although Trump commented later to the same network that he was not thinking about such a move. Saudi Arabia has stepped up direct engagement with Iran to try and contain the war,

 

Last year, about 20 million barrels of oil and petroleum products flowed through the Strait of Hormuz daily, according to a tally from the International Energy Agency.

 

With importers struggling to secure barrels, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued a short-term waiver to allow India to buy Russian crude. The move “only authorizes transactions involving oil already stranded at sea,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

 

Indian refiners have already bought more than 10 million barrels of Russian crude, according to people with direct knowledge of the deals. Much of that may have been purchased even before the one-month waiver announced late Thursday in Washington. India’s Reliance Industries Ltd. is seeking to buy Russian oil, a person familiar with the matter said.

 

Goldman Sachs warned that a prolonged disruption at Hormuz — which links the Persian Gulf to global markets and typically carries about one-fifth of global oil flows — could lift prices far higher, although the bank’s base case at present is for a gradual recovery of shipments and futures to average $76 a barrel in the second quarter.

 

“Let’s say you have another five weeks of very low flows of oil through the strait,” Samantha Dart, the co-head of global commodities research at the Wall Street lender, told Bloomberg Television, speaking before the JMIC advisory was issued. “It is possible we would see Brent prices cross the $100-per-barrel threshold.”

 

In Asia, signs of strain for top economies are mounting. China has told major refiners to suspend exports of diesel and gasoline, reflecting efforts to prioritize domestic needs. Elsewhere, Japanese refiners asked their government to release oil from strategic reserves.

 

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia raised the price of its main oil grade for buyers in Asia for April by the most since August 2022. Riyadh is also diverting millions of barrels to Red Sea ports to avoid Hormuz.

 

The options market may be adding fuel to the rally, as dealers who sold calls need to buy futures to rebalance hedges as prices rise through key strikes. There were large open positions in the April contract at $85 and May at $80 — levels that were blown through on Friday.

 

WTI options volatility jumped to the highest level since the Covid-19 pandemic, with the skew — a gauge of the premium of calls over puts — reaching the highest in data compiled by Bloomberg back to 2015.

 

Refined-product prices have also soared. In Europe, low-sulfur gasoil futures have rallied 50% on ICE Futures Europe so far this week, the biggest move on record.

The crew of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Bushehr, an auxiliary ship accompanying the warship IRIS Dena that was attacked by the United States, fled to Sri Lanka after abandoning the ship, a former Sri Lankan navy official told Iran International.

3000 Police Personnel, Anti-Drone Systems To Be Deployed For India vs New Zealand T20 World Cup Final In Ahmedabad

Over 3,000 police personnel, around 1,000 home guards, and three anti-drone systems will be deployed for security during the India-New Zealand T20 World Cup final to be played in Ahmedabad on Sunday, police said.

Addressing reporters ahead of the contest, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik said on Saturday that elaborate security arrangements have been put in place.

"Tomorrow, a historic T20 World Cup final is going to be held here at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

For this, all preparations have been completed by the police. For the security arrangements, we are deploying over 3,000 police personnel and around 1,000 home guards," he said.

 

Malik said additional safety measures have been introduced this time to prevent overcrowding or any untoward incident near the stadium gates.

"This time, we have set up holding areas near Gates 1 and 2, slightly towards the main road, to prevent any possibility of a stampede.

Although such an incident has never happened here, we have set this up as an extra precaution. We are implementing this for the first time during a match," he said.

 

Senior officers will also be stationed at the venue to oversee the arrangements, Malik said.

"A joint commissioner of police, 12 deputy commissioners of police (DCPs), and officers of various ranks will be stationed here as part of the security deployment," he added.

 

He said advanced surveillance and safety systems have also been deployed for the match.

"We are also utilising three anti-drone systems. We will deploy eight Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad teams as well. We conducted a rehearsal today to review the security arrangements," Malik said.

 

The police commissioner appealed to spectators to rely on public transport to avoid congestion around the stadium. "Use buses or the Metro so that you can reach easily," he said.

Malik said transport services would remain operational late into the night to facilitate the movement of spectators after the match.

 

The police have also made specific arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of women spectators.

"We are deploying female police personnel along with male officers. Frisking of women will be done by female personnel, and for men, it will be done by male staff," he said.

He also warned spectators against parking vehicles on roads outside designated areas.

As cricket fans started thronging the Narendra Modi Stadium for the India-New Zealand T20 World Cup final on Sunday, an elaborate security blanket was laid over the venue to ensure the high-stakes clash unfolded safely.

For the first time during a match, holding areas have been created near Gates 1 and 2 as a precautionary measure to avoid any risk of a stampede, officials said.

The Ahmedabad police have already arrested two persons for allegedly black-marketing tickets for the match.

 

Defending champions India will take on New Zealand at the world's largest cricket stadium in Motera in the high-stakes final of the T20 World Cup on Sunday evening. The Men in Blue aim to defend the T20 World Cup title and lift the trophy for a third time.

The cartoon depicts devastating Iranian retaliation against the American and Israeli military after a deadly strike on the Minab girls’ school

 

Iranian media have shared a Lego-style video touting Tehran’s purported retaliation against the US and Israel, depicting the American and Israeli leadership in a panic.

 

The animation, dubbed ‘Narrative of Victory,’ was widely circulated online on Sunday. It opens with a cartoonish figure of US President Donald Trump – accompanied by the Devil – reading the Jeffrey Epstein files.

 

The US president is then shown going haywire and ordering strikes on Iran, apparently implying that the attack was meant to distract everyone from a domestic scandal involving the late sex offender’s ties with American elites.

 

The video then depicts an attack on an Iranian girls’ school in Minab, which left more than 170 people dead, with a vengeful Iranian soldier examining the ruins and getting ready for retaliation. Tehran has blamed the attack on Israel and the US, while Trump has claimed the destruction was caused by Iran itself.

 

The clip goes on to depict waves of Iranian missile and drone strikes, including attacks on a UK airbase in Cyprus, multiple targets in Israel, and sites across the Gulf region. As the devastation spreads, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is shown fleeing, oil traders panic, and Iranian drones destroy a US aircraft carrier. One of the final scenes shows a US military transport plane unloading a coffin draped in the American flag.

 

The release came days after the White House posted its own PR video on X. The clip opened with a Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas meme showing protagonist CJ saying “Ah sh*t, here we go again,” before cutting to footage of US strikes on Iran, each hit overlaid with the game’s “wasted” screen that appears when the character dies.

 

This is not the first time Iranian media have used Lego-style animations in their messaging. In June 2025, during the 12-day war with Israel and the US, a similar video depicted Tehran’s response to strikes on the Isfahan nuclear facility as a victory.

 

That clip showed Trump and Netanyahu standing beside a devil figure before Iranian missiles hit Israeli targets, ending with the line: “We are the ones who control the game.”

Boeing Christens Second Extra-Large Orca Submarine Drone

Revealed in a LinkedIn post by Christine Clark, Boeing’s Supplier Program Manager, the second Orca Extra Large Uncrewed Undersea Vehicle (XLUUV) dubbed the XLE2 has been commissioned.

Orca is a one of a kind capability within the United States, being the first vessel to have both the size and autonomy present to complete it’s designated mission set.

The XLUUV is slated to be able to carry out a number of tasks including Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), mine warfare, sea bed warfare, and expeditionary support.

 

Orca’s physical dimensions entail an 85 ton displacement, 85 foot (26 meter) length, and an endurance of 6,500 nautical miles supported by hybrid electric power plant.

Out of Orca’s 85 foot length, the extremely sizeable mission bay occupies just over 33 feet (10 meters) and can support various payloads with a weight of up to 8 tons.

 

Weighing on Orca’s autonomous nature and extreme range, the vessels can be launched and recovered from pier-side without the support of a dedicated second, manned ship.

The vessel promises to enhance the reach and tempo of U.S. undersea and especially sea bed relative operations with a reduced cost on logistics, with each vessel operated by one of the Navy’s Unmanned Undersea Squadrons (UUVRON).

 

XLE2’s delivery marks the third delivery of a vessel in the Orca program, following Boeing’s delivery of both a single, smaller dedicated testing vessel, and one other full-size Orca, designated XLE0 and XLE1 respectively.

Orca’s family of vessels follow Boeing’s development work on the Echo-Voyager XLUUV, a proof of concept completed and tested prior to the competition for the $247 million Orca contract.

 

Delays in the Program

Amidst the XLE2’s commissioning, it is worth noting the significant gap in delivery time between XLE2, XLE1, and XLE0, with a gap of one and half to two years between the first and second vessel (2023-2024/5), and a one year gap between the second and third vessel (2025-2026).

This discrepancy in delivery timelines is a stark departure from that provided in the initial contract issued in 2019 for the construction and delivery of 4 plus 1 (added a month later) vessels by the end of 2022, a date which has been lapsed by ongoing delays in the program.

Orca’s construction scheduling also placed the delivery of the rest of the XLUUVs within a single year following the completion of the first unmanned-sub, a goal stated as late as 2024 which has not materialized.

 

Following deliveries are now along an unknown timeline, although the gap in delivery times between each hull is already decreasing to some extent.

The future of the program could prove to be in a precarious position given the Pentagon’s increased emphasis on reduced delivery times, the elimination of delays, and scrutiny regarding corporations in the defense sector.

Iran Nears Deal to Buy Supersonic Anti-Ship Missiles from China

LONDON, Feb 24 (Reuters) – Iran is close to a deal with China to purchase anti?ship cruise missiles, according to six people with knowledge of the negotiations, just as the United States deploys a vast naval force near the Iranian coast ahead of possible strikes on the Islamic Republic.

 

The deal for the Chinese?made CM?302 missiles is near completion, though no delivery date has been agreed, the people said. The supersonic missiles have a range of about 290 kilometres and are designed to evade shipborne defences by flying low and fast. Their deployment would significantly enhance Iran’s strike capabilities and pose a threat to U.S. naval forces in the region, two weapons experts said.

 

Negotiations with China to buy the missile weapons systems, which began at least two years ago, accelerated sharply after the 12?day war between Israel and Iran in June, according to the six people with knowledge of the talks, including three officials who were briefed by the Iranian government as well as three security officials. As talks entered their final stages last summer, senior Iranian military and government officials travelled to China, including Massoud Oraei, Iran’s deputy defence minister, according to two of the security officials. Oraei’s visit has not been previously reported.

 

“It’s a complete gamechanger if Iran has supersonic capability to attack ships in the area,” said Danny Citrinowicz, a former Israeli intelligence officer and now senior Iran researcher at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies think tank. “These missiles are very difficult to intercept.”

 

Reuters could not determine how many missiles were involved in the potential deal, how much Iran had agreed to pay, or whether China would go through with the agreement now given heightened tensions in the region.

 

“Iran has military and security agreements with its allies, and now is an appropriate time to make use of these agreements,” an Iranian foreign ministry official told Reuters.

 

In a comment sent after publication, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was not aware of the talks about a potential missile sale that Reuters had reported. China’s defence ministry did not respond to a request for comment.

 

The White House did not directly address the negotiations between Iran and China over the missile system when asked by Reuters. U.S. President Donald Trump has been clear that “either we will make a deal or we will have to do something very tough like last time,” a White House official said, referring to the current standoff with Iran.

 

The missiles would be among the most advanced military hardware to be transferred to Iran by China and defy a United Nations weapons embargo that was first imposed in 2006. The sanctions were suspended in 2015 as part of a nuclear deal with the U.S. and allies, and then reimposed last September.

 

A DEPLETED ARSENAL

The CM-302 purchase would be a significant improvement in an Iranian arsenal depleted by last year’s war, said Pieter Wezeman, a senior researcher at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.

 

China’s state-owned China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) markets the CM-302 as the world’s best anti-ship missile, capable of sinking an aircraft carrier or destroyer. The weapons system can be mounted on ships, aircraft or mobile ground vehicles. It can also take out targets on land.

 

CASIC did not respond to a request for comment.

 

Iran is also in discussions to acquire Chinese surface-to-air missile systems, so-called MANPADS, antiballistic weapons, and anti-satellite weapons, the six people said.

 

China was a major arms supplier to Iran in the 1980s, but large-scale weapons transfers dwindled by the late 1990s under international pressure. In recent years, U.S. officials have accused Chinese companies of providing missile-related materials to Iran but have not publicly accused it of supplying complete missile systems.

A FORMER UK cop who now cracks UFO cases hopes Donald Trump will blow the lid off top alien secrets.

Gary Heseltine, 65, who took early retirement in 2013 to become a full-time UFO detective, is hoping the real X-files will reveal “out of this world” revelations – but is remaining slightly cautious.

It comes after Trump said he will direct US agencies, including the defence department, to “begin the process of identifying and releasing” government files on aliens and extraterrestrial life.

 

The US president made the major announcement just days after he accused Barack Obama of revealing classified information on aliens.

The former president declared “aliens are real” on a podcast with the clip quickly going viral before hastily clarifying that he never saw any actual evidence of their existence.

 

Gary, of Featherstone, West Yorkshire, spent 24 years in the British Transport Police, mainly as a detective constable before moving into the alien business.

He is now the world’s leading investigator of the Rendlesham Forest incident in December 1980 when US air force personnel witnessed UFOs over a series of nights near the twin bases of RAF Bentwaters and RAF Woodbridge in Suffolk.

 

Gary says he was taken by surprise when Trump declared he was ordering his Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to begin releasing government files on extraterrestrial life.

He told The Sun: “The statement he made is significant in the sense that it came from a sitting President of the United States who was authorising the release of government UFO/UAP files.

“However, it made no mention of ‘declassifying’ files i.e., releasing everything the US government holds on the topic.”

 

The former cop hopes that Trump’s remarks can spark a genuine push for the files to be released in a similar manner to the Epstein files.

Members of Congress should feel “empowered to pursue the release of ‘secret’ government files”, Gary added.

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has already said she intends to sit down with the FBI soon and urge them to release videos she has been shown when being briefed on the subject.

 

In 2022, Congress held their first hearings on UFOs in 50 years.

The Pentagon promised to offer up more transparency as they set up an office to collect reports of all military UFO encounters.

Just two years later, a Pentagon report declared there is “no evidence” suggesting the US government has ever encountered alien life.

 

Almost all UFO sightings reported can be explained as being various ordinary objects, the report claimed.

“President Trump’s sudden intervention implies that agencies should disclose what they know so I think it will be very interesting to see if they will comply,” Gary said.

 

He continued: “One of the other things that might happen soon is President Trump signing an Executive Order in the Oval Office.

“If that happened it would be unprecedented in terms of Presidential action on the UFO/UAP topic.

“Although highly unlikely he could also reveal the truth of what he knows about Non-Human Intelligence (NHI).”

Bryan Tyler Cohen asked Obama in a podcast interview: “Are aliens real?”

Obama replied: “They’re real but I haven’t seen them. They’re not being kept in Area 51. There’s no underground facility.”

Before he joked: “Unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States.”

 

Obama was then made to row back on his shock claims as he made an Instagram statement, clarifying that “the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there”.

“I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!” he added.

 

Trump raged at Obama after the consecutive alien blunder saying: “He made a big mistake.”

Trump was then asked about his knowledge on the topic to which he replied: “Well, I don’t know if they’re real or not.”

“He [Obama] is not supposed to be doing that.”

 

It comes as US congressman Rep Eric Burlison says Trump has been “fully briefed” on the existence of aliens.

Burlison also claimed earlier this year that there is a secret overseas facility hiding a massive UFO which is “guarded like it’s some kind of commodity”.

The lawmaker claims an entire building had to be built around the immovable flying saucer, which theorists believe to be on the outskirts of Seoul, South Korea.

Credible or incredible?

There is still some way to go in revealing exactly what the Pentagon kept guarded over the decades, but Trump’s executive order is still pending.

Burlison told Diener, “I don’t know what kind of technology can do that, or who is behind that, but…I can definitively say that there’s something there.”

The transnational plot, which the US Drug Enforcement Administration had been investigating since 2019, involved Japanese organised crime leader Takeshi Ebisawa, who along with three Thai men, had been arrested in New York in 2022.

 

In court last week, Ebisawa, 62, pleaded guilty to six counts of conspiracy to traffic nuclear materials, including uranium and weapons-grade plutonium, from Myanmar to other countries, as well as his participation in international narcotics trafficking, weapons and money laundering.

Hungary and Slovakia – both heavily dependent on Russian energy – accused Kiev of deliberately cutting it off in a bid to exert pressure on them.

Britain has just two days' worth of natural gas in storage, sparking fears of a shortage crisis as the Middle East conflict shut down the world's largest gas facility and Iran closed a key shipping channel.

 

The UK's gas reserves have dwindled from 18,000 GWh last year to 6,700 GWh, enough for just 1.5 days of demand, according to new data published by National Gas. There is a similar quantity stored as liquefied natural gas (LNG).

 

Europe is much better prepared to weather fluctuations in supply, with several weeks' worth of gas stored up.

 

Traders have been exploiting the UK's situation by charging it a premium price on gas, knowing it has no choice but to outbid its European competitors. The UK is now paying the highest wholesale gas price in Europe.

 

Disruption to the gas market is driven partly by the near-total closure of the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20 per cent of the world's natural gas and oil flows, and also by the shutdown of production in some places.

 

Qatar announced at the beginning of the week it had suspended production at Ras Laffan, the world's largest natural gas facility, after it came under Iranian bombardment.

 

Meanwhile, oil prices are set to soon hit $100 a barrel and that could rise to $150 if the war drags on, industry experts warned.

Natasha Fielding, head of gas pricing at Argus Media, a leading publisher of commodity data, said: 'The price of gas in the UK has increased by more than almost anywhere in Europe.

 

'The UK gas hub price is now above the Dutch TTF [the main European gas hub] all the way from now until the end of May. Before this week, the UK was priced below the EU.'

 

She said this was partly because the UK's meagre gas stockpiles leave us 'more exposed to price spikes', and added: 'We can’t rely on withdrawing more from storage, so we have to get that gas from abroad.'

 

Ms Fielding said traders would be monitoring temperatures in Britain, and that if it gets cold, the UK would be more urgently compelled to outbid other countries for gas.

 

The UK used to have up to 12 days worth of gas in storage, but the system collapsed after successive government ministers pulled its funding.

 

National Gas data showed that gas stores were at 18 per cent of their former capacity on Friday, while LNG stores were just over half full.

 

A National Gas spokesman said the UK gets most of its gas from Norway and its own North Sea.

 

They told The Telegraph: 'The UK benefits from a wide range of gas supply sources. These provide the flexibility needed to balance supply and demand.'

 

Meanwhile, fears of a significant spike in oil prices are also growing, driven largely by disruption to the flow through the Strait of Hormuz.

 

Iran's Revolutionary Guard vowed to 'set ablaze' any Western tanker attempting to sail through the strait - and hundreds have since amassed at either end.

 

Goldman Sachs warned that the current drop in the Middle East's oil output is 17 times larger than the peak drop in Russia's output after it invaded Ukraine.

 

Oil prices have already surged above $90, with American crude settling at $90.90 on Friday, up 36 per cent from a week ago, while Brent, the international benchmark, climbed 27 per cent over the course of the week to land at $92.69.

 

The bank said: 'We now think that oil prices would likely exceed $100 next week if no signs of solutions emerge by then.

 

'We now also think it’s likely that oil prices, especially for refined products, would exceed the 2008 and 2022 peaks, if Strait of Hormuz flows were to remain depressed throughout March.'

Energy infrastructure has been a key battleground of the current conflict, with Israel overnight blitzing oil facilities in Iran.

 

Tehran burst into flames, with residents describing the night sky being lit up like day, and a river of fire burned along an oil spill from one facility.

 

Huge fireballs could be seen erupting across the city's skyline and an acrid burning smell hung in the air, as both the US and Israel doubled down on their pledge to fight until the 'eradication' of the Iranian regime.

 

It follows US President Donald Trump's pledge to dial up the attacks as the war in the Middle East entered its second week.

 

He last night targeted UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer - insisting 'we don’t need people that join Wars after we’ve already won,' after it emerged the UK was preparing an aircraft carrier for deployment to the Middle East.

The Feb. 27 disappearance of a retired Air Force major general with a vast institutional knowledge about UFOs is a “grave national security crisis,” says investigative journalist Ross Coulthart.

William Neil McCasland, 68, was reported missing after leaving his Albuquerque, N.M., home on foot, according to local authorities, who have teamed up with the FBI to find the former military official.

 

To Coulthart, the way McCasland vanished — reportedly along a running trail without his watch and phone — suggests something nefarious.

He said McCasland was known to be mentally and physically fit. The retiree is also considered a trove of information about whatever secrets the government may be hiding about UFOs; “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAPs); and nonhuman intelligent life.

 

“This is a man with some of the most sensitive secrets of the United States in his head,” Coulthart, NewsNation special correspondent, says in the latest edition of his “Reality Check” podcast.

During his tenure in the Air Force, McCasland oversaw classified space weapons programs and was head of research at Wright Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio, Coulthart notes.

That facility has long been rumored to house fragments of extraterrestrial debris from Roswell, N.M.

 

Coulthart said he finds it interesting McCasland’s disappearance comes shortly after President Donald Trump promised disclosure about whatever files the government holds on UFOs and alien life.

In recent years, he said, McCasland was seen as being sympathetic to the idea of educating the public about those classified topics.

 

“The timing is screechingly relevant,” Coulthart said. “The fact that Gen. Neil McCasland has disappeared off the face of the earth is a grave national security crisis for the United States of America.

SEOUL, March 8 (Yonhap) – The government is considering adopting a price cap system for oil for the first time in nearly 30 years, sources said Sunday, amid concerns over rising energy prices following the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

 

Officials began reviewing the possibility after surging global crude prices were reflected almost immediately in domestic fuel prices, rather than after the typical two-week lag, following U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran's retaliatory attacks in the region.

 

South Korea, which depends heavily on energy imports, is particularly vulnerable to external price shocks, which often drive inflation.

 

The review is being conducted under Article 23 of the Petroleum and Alternative Fuel Business Act, which allows the industry minister to designate a maximum sales price when oil prices fluctuate sharply and threaten economic stability.

 

However, the provision has effectively remained dormant since the country liberalized oil prices in 1997.

 

Sources said the government is weighing the option carefully because of potential side effects, including market distortions and fiscal burdens.

 

While presiding over an extraordinary Cabinet meeting Thursday to discuss the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran, President Lee Jae Myung ordered officials to swiftly devise a price cap system by region and fuel type if implementing a nationwide uniform cap proves difficult. The following day, Lee also warned oil refiners against possible collusion in raising gasoline prices.

 

Following the president's directive, the government launched an interagency inspection team to crack down on illegal oil distribution and hoarding, as well as unfair trade practices.

 

In addition, the government decided to secure more than 6 million barrels of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates to stabilize energy supplies.

 

Despite such measures, however, gasoline prices at domestic gas stations continue to rise.

 

The average gasoline price exceeded 1,890.87 won (US$1.27) per liter as of Saturday night, according to data from the Korea National Oil Corp.
