Dirty secret corporate media won’t discuss: US is reason Iran’s democracy ended and Ayatollah came to power

The US did this!

The people of Iran deserve freedom and self-determination. In fact, Donald Trump told the world last Saturday that one of the reasons for his (illegal) war was to help the Iranian people. That is when he directly addressed the “great, proud Iranian people,” telling them, “I say tonight that the hour of your freedom is at hand…When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be, probably, your only chance for generations.”

Well, the reality is the people of Iran had democracy decades ago. But the corporate media is once again covering a war in the Middle East without giving any of historical context. And this case, it’s likely because the Trump regime will be angry if the media reminds Americans that Iran once had a democracy—but guess what country ended it?! (I bet you know!)

Ensuring the people of Iran have freedoms and self-determination is truly a noble goal. But they had that decades ago until the United States—together with the UK—ended it to preserve access to oil. And from the 1950’s on, the Shah’s brutality—assisted by the CIA and US military interests—horrifically oppressed the people. This all set the table for the 1979 revolution.

That is why there is a straight line from the United States to the Ayatollah coming to power in Iran. This is the history that corporate media and the Trump regime doesn’t want you to know. And it’s also why we know Trump will never pursue democracy for the Iranian people. Instead, he will simply work to install a pro-Western dictator—just like the US did to Iran in 1953.
