Don't get me wrong, maintaining a coherent society is an important thing to be done. Yet when you become so consumed with internal politics that you forget the whole point is to be capable of meeting external challenges, you get what we've got today.

You assume they're acting as a coherent unit, projecting thoughts outwards from a central self.
Rather, they are focusing on an external other, and attempting to 'orbit' that other with what they hope will induce derisive thoughts.

Every time you encounter an other, your relationship with them may potentially take any form. They may choose to treat you as an experiment, on their side of things, but you can still choose how you respond to what they are projecting towards yourself.
If you reject what they are projecting you can choose to be something of your own making instead.
