This refers to the 2018 incident involving Richard “Beebo” Russell (sometimes called “Sky King”), a 28- or 29-year-old Horizon Air ground service agent/baggage handler with no formal pilot training. On August 10, 2018, he stole an empty Bombardier Q400 turboprop (often loosely called a “jet” in some reports) from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac). He took it on an unauthorized joyride lasting about 75 minutes, during which he performed maneuvers like a barrel roll while talking with air traffic control about his mental health struggles. He ultimately deliberately crashed the plane into the sparsely populated Ketron Island (also occasionally misspelled as Kenton in informal accounts), killing himself but causing no other injuries or damage on the ground.
