What did Trump and Xi achieve in Beijing?

The American and Chinese presidents talked Iran, Taiwan, and trade, but found little to agree on

Published 15 May, 2026 20:24.1/2

US President Donald Trump’s meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, was heavy on pomp, praise, and promises. But what did both leaders walk away with after the superpower summit in Beijing?

Trump left Beijing on Friday, two daysafter becoming the first US president to visit the Chinese capital in almost a decade. The trip took place amid two paused conflicts – Trump’s trade war with Beijing and his real war against Iran – which directly affect China, and althoughboth leaders hailed positive developmentsin their relationship, differing statements from the two sides suggest that these issues and others remain unresolved.

Xi gives Trump a royal welcome

From the military honors and red carpet that greeted Trump on Wednesday, to the garden tour of Xi’s Zhongnanhai compound on Friday morning, the Chinese president was a gracious host throughout. At a lavish banquet on Thursday,Xi declared that “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand.”

Trump returned the favor, telling Xi that the welcome ceremony was “an honor like few I’ve ever seen before,” and that the roses in the gardens of Zhongnanhaiwere “the most beautiful roses anyone has ever seen.” A lifelong teetotaler,Trump went as far as taking a sip of wine when Xi proposed a toast at the banquet.

Ahead of bilateral talks on Friday, Trump claimed that he and Xi had “settled a lot of different problems. that other people wouldn’t havebeen able to settle, and the relationship is a very strong one.”

Did Trump and Xi reach breakthrough on Taiwan?

Amid the optics and pageantry, few observers expected any progress on Taiwan – the longest-running unresolved issue between Washington and Beijing. Xi maintains that Taiwan’s reunification with the Chinese mainland is “inevitable,”while the US has followed a policy of strategic ambiguity since the 1970s. It accepts but does not endorse Beijing’s claim to the island.

According to China’s Foreign Ministry,Xi warned Trump that “the Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations,” and “if mishandled, the two nations could collide or even come into conflict.”

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump said that he and Xi “talked a lot” about Taiwan, and about a planned US arms sale to Taipei this year. “I made no commitment either way,” Trump added. The US president then said that Xi had asked him whether he’d use the US military to defend Taiwan. In keeping with the US’ policy of ambiguity,Trump said that he replied “I don’t talk about that.”

“I’m not looking to have somebody go independent,”Trump said in a Fox News interview aired on Friday. “And, you know, we’re supposed to travel 9,500 miles to fight a war? I’m not looking for that. .I want them to cool down. I want China to cool down.”

What did they say about Iran?

Trump emerged from talks with Xi claiming victory on the issue of Iran, with his own comments and White House statementssuggesting that Beijing would help push Iran into a peace deal that favors the US.

“We did discuss Iran,” Trump said on Friday. “We feel very similar about [how] we want it to end. We don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon. We want the straits open.”A White House statement went further, claiming.“President Xi also made clear China’s opposition to the militarization of the Straitand any effort to charge a toll for its use, and he expressed.interest in purchasing more American oil to reduce China’s dependence on the Strait in the future.”

However, theChinese government’s statement makes no mention of nuclear weapons, tolls, or any purchase of American oil.“There is no point in continuing this conflict which should not have happened in the first place,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday. “To find an early way to resolve the situation is in the interest of not only the US and Iran, but also regional countries and the rest of the world.”

China imports around 12% of its oil from Iran. While the Islamic Republic has allowed some Chinese vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz, a five-point China-Pakistan proposal to resolve the conflict has urged all parties to ensure the “normal passage” of ships through the waterway as soon as possible.

In one potential breakthrough, Trump said on Friday that he is considering lifting sanctions on Chinese companies that purchase Iranian oil.

Did Trump and Xi settle the trade war?

TheUS trade war with China remains in a state of truce, with Trump’s heightened tariffs on Chinese goods paused until November. Trump left Beijing claiming that he had secured “fantastic trade deals” with Xi, including the purchase by China of 200 Boeing passenger jets. US trade representative JamiesonGreer also said that he expected China to buy “double-digit billions” worth of US agricultural exports “over the next three years.”

However, Boeing has not confirmed the jet deal, and even if it does, the purchase of 200 aircraft falls dramatically short of the 500 predicted by market insiders before the trip. The Chinese government has not confirmed any trade deals, agricultural or otherwise.

After meeting American business executives who accompanied Trump to Beijing – including Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Nvidia chief Jensen Huang –Xi “noted that China-US economic and trade ties are mutually beneficial and win-win in nature,”read an ambiguous statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Drugs and rare earths

Trump has repeatedly accused China of facilitating the flow of fentanyl and its precursor chemicals into the US, slapping a 10% tariff on China over its alleged inaction on the issue last year.Beijing maintains that the accusations are politically motivated.

The White House claimed on Friday that Trump and Xiagreed on “the need to build on progress in ending the flow of fentanyl precursors into the United States,” although the Chinese side has not referred to fentanyl in any of its post-summit statements.

China’s near-monopoly on rare earth minerals – vital in the manufacture of electric vehicle motors, guided missiles, and a range of high-tech components – is one of Beijing’s strongest cards in the trade dispute with the US. China imposed export controls on these minerals last year, but relented and allowed their sale to the US when the trade war was put on hold in October.

The fact that neither Trump nor the Chinese government mentioned rare earths after the summitsuggests that the issue is still very much unsettled.

The bottom line

Although themost pressing issues between the US and China remain unresolved, both sides portrayed it as positive. Trump said thathis trip was “very successful,” while.Xi described it as an “historic and landmark”visit. Perhaps the mostsignificant outcome of the trip was Trump’s invitation to Xi to visit the White Housein September, which Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed on Friday that Xi had accepted.

Xi last visited the White House in 2015. The fact that he will travel to Washington before Trump’s tariffs are reapplied indicatesthat both Washington and Beijing believe that a trade deal can be struck, and some agreement on other issues can be reached.

(The Russia version is much more honest than the American and EU press.)

Denmark cancels lucrative contract with Zelensky’s favorite missile maker – FT

Fire Point’s is at the center of a corruption scandal implicating the inner circle around the Ukrainian leader

Published 15 May, 2026 13:29

The Danish government has suspended plans for a solid rocket fuel facility intended to supply Fire Point, the Ukrainian defense company widely linked to high-level corruption involving Vladimir Zelensky's inner circle, one of the firm’s senior executives has told the Financial Times.

The Danish government had used national security provisions to bypass potential legal objections surrounding the construction of a facility in Vojens, southern Jutland, where fuel for Fire Point’s missile systems was expected to be manufactured. However, the project announced last September was quietly halted earlier this month, Fire Point chief designer and co-owner Denis Shtilerman told the outlet on Thursday.

Originally operating as a film scouting agency owned by Zelensky insiders,Fire Point has been exposed in leaked transcripts of conversations between Zelensky's inner circle as a vehicle for syphoning off lucrative arms contracts.

Thefirm emerged as a “miracle”player in Ukraine’s defense sector having been internationally touted by Zelenskyon his foreign visits and reportedly securing contracts worth up to $1 billion.

Surveillance recordings published by Ukrainian mediasince April indicated that businessman Timur Mindich –who is wanted in Ukraine over an alleged $100 million corruption scheme in the energy sector– effectively controlled Fire Point during 2025. The recordingsalso suggested he enjoyed preferential treatment from then-Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, who now serves as secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

Shtilerman dismissed the allegations as “rumors,”while lamenting that the suspicions had delayed the company’s plans. He claimed that Fire Point’s products could contribute to the creation of a “pan-European air-defense shield” and claimed that Gulf states, Germany, and other countries had shown strong interest in the firm’s technology.

Mindich scandal widens

The recordings were originally gathered by Western-backed anti-corruption agenciesas part of their investigation into Mindich, a longtime business associate of Zelensky dating back to the Ukrainian leader’s entertainment career. Ukrainian media have nicknamed Mindich “Zelensky’s wallet.”

This week, the same agencies chargedformer Zelensky chief of staff Andrey Yermak with money laundering offenses. According to the indictment, Yermak helped channel illicit funds into a luxury real estate development, which also counts Mindich among its owners,as well as former Unity Minister Aleksey Chernyshov and a fourth partner who media reports claimed is Zelensky himself.

Political uncertainty in Denmark

While Danish media acknowledged that the so-called ‘Mindich tapes’ had intensified scrutiny of Fire Point’s operations inDenmark, authorities have up to now stopped short of confirming that the fuel plant project was in jeopardy.

In late 2025, Deputy Foreign Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, who also serves as defense minister under pro-Ukrainian Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, stated that Copenhagen “does everything it can to follow the money we give” Ukraine.

Denmark is currently facing difficult coalition negotiations after Frederiksen’s Social Democrats recorded their worst election result since 1903 in March voting. Last week, King Frederik asked Poulsen to attempt to form a new government after Frederiksen failed to secure enough parliamentary support for a third term.

(Any country getting involved in Zelensky and Ukraine’s corruption, money laundering, lies and out and out criminal activities, is stupid to invest in anything Ukraine is involved in. All the stupid EU countries that partnered with Ukraine, will come back to bite them in the future.)

Trump policies mean Europe is ‘alone’ – ex-ECB chief(oh, you mean like EU countries and UK refused to assist America in Iran diversion? You mean like they abandoned the U.S., so we are to blame for you not managing your countries money?)

US policies under President Donald Trump are becoming more “confrontational and unpredictable,” Mario Draghi has warned

Published 15 May, 2026 09:24

US President Donald Trump’sincreasingly “confrontational and unpredictable” policies have left Europe “truly alone together” andunable to rely on Washington as its main security guarantor, former Italian prime minister and ex-ECB chief Mario Draghi has warned.

Draghi made the remarks in Aachen, Germany, on Thursday while receiving the Charlemagne Prize for his “historic services” to European integration and competitiveness.

Using his speech to outline how Europe can survive the “new realities,” Draghi warned the bloc could no longer depend on the US.

“The world that once helped Europe generate prosperity no longer exists. It has become harder, more fragmented and more mercantilist… The central external fact of our time:our relationship with the US has changed,” Draghi said.

He argued that Washington is increasingly making unilateral decisions with major consequences for Europe, citing Trump’s tariffs introduced last year, which. resulted in a trade deal widely viewed in Europe as humiliating, as well as the.US-Israeli war on Iran launched without consultation with European allies.

Draghi said the conflict, which effectively blocked the Strait ofHormuz – the route for roughly 20% of global oil and LNGsupplies –“brought inflation back into our economies and anxiety back into our households.”(They don’t mention Iran blocking the port, it’s Trumps fault.I can’t believe they are saying any of this, the whole point is Europe refused to assist America for the first time we could have used it in Iran. This article sounds like Europe lost their Free Nanny that helped them to walk and pay their bills. Their economy has been shit for years, and no the U.S. is not going to bail you out of childish habits.==)

At the same time, Draghi described the shift in US policy as a “necessary wake-up call.”

In a world of evolving partnerships, every strategic dependency must now be re-examined. (The dependency is coming from Europe, we really asked anything from them). For the first time in living memory, we are truly alone together(how many fucking countries have, you are not alone),” he said, warning that “the partner on whom we still depend has become more confrontational and unpredictable.”

Draghi argued Europe mustfundamentally rethink its economic and political model, calling for a more assertive bloc and warning reliance on Washington for defensecould spill into trade, technology, and energy. He urgeddeeper integration, a stronger internal market, and a ‘Made in Europe’ strategy to rebuild the bloc’s industrial, technological, and defense base. To hasten this,he proposed “pragmatic federalism,” allowing willing countries to move faster on reforms through joint projects.

Relations between the US and EU have been strained since Trump returned to office in 2024,with recurring disputes over trade, defense, digital regulation, and the Ukraine conflict. Trump repeatedly threatened the bloc with tariffs andaccused European NATO members of failing to meet obligations, pressing them to raise military spending. His 2026 National Security Strategyfurther criticized the EU as strategically unreliable and warned of “civilizational erasure.”

Trump’s rhetoric over Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory he sought to annex, also fueled tensions last year, although he later softened his stance.

The US-Israeli war on Iran deepened the rift after Washington announced the withdrawal of 5,000 US troops from Germanyand threatened further troop cuts in countries such as Spain and Italy following criticism of the conflict.

(It’s hard to believe full grown adults and politicians are acting like their world will end if America doesn’t do everything for them. If I was a European I’d be totally embarrassed by their incompetent leaders. At least they admit they were expecting the U.S. to protect them forever. Bizarre! They are just pissed that they might need to work 7 days a week to sustain their countries. We should send them a bill for all Americans stationed there since 1959.)

(Anons, I can’t believe they are so dependent and stupid that they would say this out loud. They are crying because they don’t have the U.S. and Trump’s constant attention and our money. Admitting this should make them embarrassed)
