Cost us $60k in attorneys fees just to stop my wifes sister from selling their parents house to herself at a huge discount. When the attorney wanted the case, he told us it was clearcut, she's self dealing, she'll have to pay attorneys fees etc… then once we hire them… they pass it to another lawyer in the firm who tells us to settle at a big loss and pay our own attorneys fees, judges rarely award them etc, and they basically did nothing but charged us a shit ton.
They're crooked as fuck and you can't begin to fight them unless you're rich.
Yeah I lost any remaining faith in the courts. I already had none in criminal case, now civil too.
She and my wife were co-executors, both entitled to 50%, Her sister decided that she, her husband, and their adult daughter gets to live in the house rent free for over a year while she finds a job, then builds credit, then decides the house is really only worth 2/3 of what it was professionally appraised at by the appraiser they agreed on. Then she had the nerve to tell the court my wife should be paying 50% of her utilities. She was self dealing from the start, and the court wanted us to pay even more for mediation or settle, and it 100% felt like our lawyers were not on our side.
Damn.
When my grandpa died one of my sisters thought she should be entitled to a portion of the sale of his home… He had 5 kids and it was split 5 ways. She thought she should get 1/6th… but there's a ton of us grandkids…. why she thought she was entitled to that I will never understand.
