Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky is treating the US as a “piggy bank” and is feeding Washington with “propaganda” to get more US-made air defense systems, Republican Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has said.
On Wednesday,Zelensky received Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal and Democratic Congressman Jim Himes in Kiev, saying that Ukraine is grateful to the US and President Donald Trump for what he called “strong bipartisan support.”
During the talks,Zelensky said Kiev had a “significant need” for air defense missiles, adding that he had sent a letter to the White House and Congress with a wish list. Earlier, Axios reported that Zelensky had asked for an “urgent supply of Patriot interceptors,” with the Ukrainian leader himselfsaying last month that the missiles are “in such a deficit, it could not be any worse.”
In response, Luna accused Zelensky of lying. “This is literally propaganda and not even true. There is no broad support for an endless war and we are not your piggy bank,” she wrote on X.
Luna also recalled that Trump has been pushing for a negotiated settlement to the conflict, but Zelensky is “the ONLY person holding out on the deal.”“The war CANNOT continue,”Luna added.
Under the Trump administration,Ukraine has been procuring US-made weapons mainly through the PURL initiative, a NATO-backed mechanism under which Kiev’s backers fund shipments for Ukraine.Zelensky has praised the scheme, but said it does not fully cover shortages.
Luna has been an outspoken critic of Zelensky,slamming the Ukrainian leader over the crackdown on the Orthodox Church and advocating a halt in US aid to Kiev. She has also criticized Zelensky over his refusal to hold a presidential election. The Ukrainian leader’s term expired in 2024, with Russia declaring him “illegitimate” and suggesting thathis dubious status is an obstacle to signing a binding peace deal.
In March, Zelensky claimed that the US was pressing Ukraine to withdraw from Russia’s Donbass as a precondition for any post-conflict American security guarantees.US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, dismissed the claim as “lies.”

Germany is concerned about a potential flood of Ukrainian immigrants from Poland after Warsaw sharply reduced social benefits, Bild reported on Wednesday, citing a confidential report by the German security authorities.
Germany and Poland have accepted the largest numbers of Ukrainian refugees in the EUsince the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022, according to Eurostat data.
Germany was hosting around 1.3 million people under temporary protection as of March 2026,accounting for more than 29% of the EU total. The number in Poland was around a million, or more than 22% of all Ukrainiansgranted protection across the bloc.
“The content of the newregulations [in Poland] is primarily aimed at placing Ukrainian nationals on the same footing as third-country nationals,” the report seen by Bild stated. “In addition to free access to healthcare and social services,the right to free accommodation is also being abolished,” it added.
Earlier this year,Warsaw approved legislation gradually phasing out the Special Act on Assistance to Ukrainian Citizens, introduced in March 2022 as an emergency response to the escalated conflict. The act created a unique legal regime granting Ukrainians rights nearly equal to those of Polish citizens and access to extensive financial and social benefits.
Other European countries,including the UK, Norway, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and Hungary, have recently taken steps to curb social programsor reduce the number of arrivals. Officials have cited the prolonged conflict and pressures on national budgets and housing markets as a major reason for the move.
Germany has also takensteps to tighten support rules for Ukrainians, including plans to reducewelfare payments for new arrivals.
German officials have increasingly emphasized labor market integration and faster employment for refugees. In November,Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned that the employment rate among Ukrainian refugees living in Germany is unacceptably low.(Merz is a Nazi!)
Russian Parliament Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin saidin 2024 that the issue of Ukrainian refugees was becoming an increasing challenge for Europe and could develop into a new migrant crisis.

Russia’s president has begun a three-day state trip to the Central Asian country

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Kazakhstan on Wednesday for a three-day state visit,with his plane escorted into Astana by the republic’s fighter jets.
Putin was personally welcomed at the airport by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. Military and youth orchestras took part in the arrival ceremony, while an honor guard representing all branches of Kazakhstan’s armed forces lined the tarmac.
Tokayev’spress service later confirmed that Russia’s presidential aircraft had been escorted from the moment it crossed the country’s border until its landing in Astana.
The visit at Tokayev’s invitation, which runs from May 27 to 29, coincides with a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Putin is also expected to take part in meetings of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
Talks in Astana are expected to focus on trade, energy, regional integration, and broader bilateral cooperation.The Kremlin has described relations between Moscow and Astana as being at an “exceptionally high level.”
The trip is Putin’s second state visit to Kazakhstan during his current presidential term –a relatively rare diplomatic format that Moscow says reflects the close ties between the two countries.
The main events are scheduled for Thursday, when the two leaders are expected to hold talks before overseeing the signing of a package of bilateral agreements.
Russian officials said the sides have prepared 16 documents for signing, including a joint statementon the foundations of friendship and good-neighborliness between the peoples of Russia and Kazakhstan. Agreements linked to energy cooperation, as well as plans for the construction of Kazakhstan’s first nuclear power plant, are also expected to be discussed.
Putin last visited Kazakhstan in November of 2024, while Tokayev traveled to Moscow on a state visit last year.

Russian cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov, on his first spacewalk of2026 on the International Space Station (ISS), sent a message to his mother to tell her that he remembered to wear his hat.
Current ISS commander Kud-Sverchkov and his fellow cosmonaut Sergey Mikayev were performing scheduled installationand removal of scientific experiment hardware on the outer hull of the space station on Wednesday.
A stream of the spacewalk, broadcast by Russian space corporation Roscosmos, shows Kud-Sverchkov holding up a laminated piece of paper with the words “Mom, I’m wearing my hat” printed in Russian.
Over the course of more than six hours, the cosmonauts installed new hardware to observe the Sun in the previously unexplored terahertz range of the electromagnetic spectrum, and retrieved a slide from an experiment attempting to grow ultra-pure semiconductors in space.
They also uninstalled a container used to test whether bacteria, fungi, and plant seeds could survive five years exposed to vacuum, cosmic radiation, and temperature fluctuations.
-Sverchkov and Mikayevwere launched to the ISS alongside NASA astronaut Chris Williams aboard the Russian Soyuz MS-28 in last November. Kud-Sverchkov then took over command of the ISS Expedition 74 from NASA astronaut Mike Fincke.
