According to a report by Christopher Rufo at the City Journal, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has established procurement targets calling for major utilities to direct 1.5 percent of spending to businesses certified as LGBT-owned.

Based on 2024 utility spending, that target would amount to roughly $633 million in contracts.

The program is part of California’s Supplier Diversity Program, which originally focused on women- and minority-owned businesses before being expanded by Democratic lawmakers and governors to include LGBT-owned firms.

The memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran has officially been signed and is now in effect.

Under the agreement, the Strait of Hormuz has been fully opened, and the US will now provide sanctions relief through the termination of all sanctions and “waivers for the export of Iranian crude oil, petroleum products, and derivatives, and all associated services, including banking transactions, insurances, transportation, etc.” The US will also “make fully available for use the frozen or restricted funds and assets of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” according to the memorandum.

Iran has agreed that it will not procure or develop nuclear weapons.

Trump noted earlier that if Iran does not honor the agreement, “we’ll probably go back to bombing them until they honor it.”

Axios reported earlier that the US and Iran were discussing moving the official signing of the memorandum to a remote signing on Wednesday, as opposed to Friday in Switzerland.

This comes after President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf signed the memorandum on Sunday. Accounts of the signing differ, with one diplomat from one of the mediating countries claiming it never happened, but US officials and others saying it did. A source familiar with the signing said this was a “second signing.”

In a sane and normal (not to say moral) country, bringing in drag queens to read to schoolchildren would be breaking news, and canceling a drag queen event for children would not. Canada, of course, is not such a country.

Thus, Canada’s press is breathlessly covering yet another Pride Month scandal. Mutchmor Public School—aptly named, as it turns out—had scheduled drag performer Adrianna Exposée to come in and read to children on June 19 for the Sacred Liturgical Month of Pride. According to Juno News: “According to a letter sent to parents at Mutchmor Public School, the June 19 event was quietly cancelled as questions mount over parental pushback and how far equity and inclusion initiatives should go inside classrooms.”

The school claimed that the drag performer event “was intended to promote literacy and themes of equity, diversity, and inclusion,” but the administrators decided to instead incorporate these themes into “regular classroom activities.” Apparently, it is in fact possible to teach literacy without drag queens.

But Ottawa-Carleton District School Board trustee Donna Blackburn informed the Ottawa Citizen that she is “very, very disappointed and quite frankly mortified” (one would think her threshold for mortification was quite high, but there you have it). According to the Citizen: “Blackburn, who describes herself as Ottawa’s first openly gay school trustee elected in a municipal election, said the cancellation sent the wrong message to LGBTQ+ students.”

In a sudden about-face, the Canadian government is telling some people who recently applied for citizenship under new laws that their applications are under review and they need to turn over their citizenship certificates.

BBC News reports that Shawn Davis Mooney, who recently relocated permanently from California to Victoria, B.C., with his husband was alarmed when he received his letter.

“It has devastated me beyond imagination,” he said.

He said he submitted 114 pages of documents showing a great-great-grandparent was born in New Brunswick and was granted a citizenship certificate in February.

Letters shared on social media and signed by Peggy Sun, Registrar of Canadian Citizenship, say in part: “I am writing pursuant to subsection 26(1) of the Citizenship Regulations. This provision authorizes me to require the surrender of a certificate of citizenship where I have reasonable grounds to believe that the holder of the certificate may not be entitled to it (i.e. may not be a Canadian citizen).”

The letters add: “The purpose of this letter is to inform you that I have information in my possession that indicates that you may not be entitled to hold a Canadian certificate of citizenship.” Continue…

A 19-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto this spring has been arrested by city police after a four-month investigation.

The Toronto Police Service announced the June 17 arrest of Zara Jabbi just days after saying he was the lone suspect still at large in connection with the March 10 consulate shooting.

Jabbi is facing six charges, including theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime, and attack on premises of internationally protected persons, police said in a press release on June 18. He is also facing three firearm-related charges.

He has been scheduled to appear remotely at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre at 10 a.m. on June 18.

Jabbi’s arrest comes two days after Toronto police held a press conference to announce three arrests connected to shootings at the U.S. Consulate and multiple Jewish schools and synagogues in Toronto.

More than 32,000 foreign nationals who were deemed inadmissible to Canada were nevertheless granted permission to enter or remain in the country through Temporary Resident Permits (TRPs) between January 2021 and March 2026, according to a newly released response to an order paper question.

The figures, provided by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), show that 32,660 permits were issued despite applicants being found inadmissible under provisions of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The permits were issued for a wide range of inadmissibility grounds, including criminality, serious criminality, security concerns, misrepresentation, human rights violations, and non-compliance with immigration laws.

Among the most notable figures were permits granted to individuals found inadmissible for criminal offences. Federal records show 4,970 permits were issued to people deemed inadmissible for criminality, while another 2,700 permits were granted to individuals found inadmissible for serious criminality.

The government also approved permits for people caught misrepresenting themselves on immigration applications. A total of 325 permits were issued to applicants found inadmissible for misrepresentation.

Records further show permits were granted to individuals flagged on security grounds, as well as to those linked to human or international rights violations, though privacy rules suppress exact figures when the totals are very small.

The overwhelming majority of permits were issued by IRCC, which approved 24,515 permits during the period. The Canada Border Services Agency approved an additional 8,145.

Temporary Resident Permits allow otherwise inadmissible foreign nationals to enter or remain in Canada when officials determine their presence is justified despite the inadmissibility finding.

The largest category of permits was issued for "non-compliance with the Act," accounting for more than 12,000 approvals. However, thousands were also issued to individuals whose inadmissibility stemmed from criminal convictions or more serious offences.

The figures were disclosed in response to order paper question Q-1184 tabled in the House of Commons and cover the period from January 1, 2021, to March 31, 2026.
