Ottawa Police Charge Driver, Company After Stopping Trailer Missing 10 Wheels

Ottawa police have charged a driver and his company after stopping a commercial truck/trailer combination that was missing 10 of its 12 wheels, with investigators warning the vehicle posed a serious danger to other road users.

Police stopped the vehicle on Lester Road in Ottawa on May 28, and called a Ministry of Transportation enforcement officer to conduct a full inspection of the trailer.

“The trailer should have had 12 wheels, but only had 2. Once safely directed off the road, the investigation revealed that the driver was taking the trailer to a scrap yard and had started the journey in Embrun,” Ottawa Police said in a post to X on May 29.

“The trailer had no operational brakes. All wheel fasteners on one wheel were loose, with one having been sheared off while driving.”

Police said an inspection of the trailer showed that there was a high probability the wheels would separate while the vehicle was in motion, which could result in an accident, causing the injury or death of other drivers.

Police had the compromised trailer removed from the road using a flat-deck trailer, with the cost for its removal charged to the company.

Police said the driver and company representatives would have to appear in court, but did not provide a specific date for the hearing. While they did not specify which charges were laid against the driver and which against the company, police said the charges included operating an unsafe commercial motor vehicle, operating a commercial motor vehicle without displaying the name of the driver, and operating a commercial vehicle for more than 16 hours consecutively.

Police said it is the responsibility of both drivers and companies of commercial vehicles to ensure that vehicles and trailers are safe to be on the road. Part of this responsibility includes ensuring that pre-trip inspections are properly conducted and that any defects are properly noted. Continue…

Findlay, a lawyer, is a former minister of national revenue in Stephen Harper’s Conservative government and served as an MP from 2011 to 2015 and from 2019 to 2025.

'Lenient': No jail for Tunisian national for 'cruel' violent domestic assault

A Tunisian national living in Quebec has received a conditional discharge and three years’ probation for a violent domestic assault and subsequent harassment, in a sentence the judge admitted was “lenient” and unlikely to satisfy the victim.

Mohamed Aziz Ben Ishak, who had arrived in Canada a year earlier as a temporary resident, attacked Fatma Abada because she had lit a cigarette before nightfall during Ramadan on April 30, 2021.

He kicked her in the ribs. She contacted a friend by phone, but he took it, pushed her to the ground and punched her repeatedly in the head. He grabbed the lit cigarette and put it out on her forearm, while continuing to kick her.

He then dragged her by the hair into the apartment’s entryway. She broke free but he attacked her again, striking her in the head. When police arrived, she refused to give a statement and said she did not wish to press charges. The police left but came back after subsequent calls from Abada and her friend, and arrested Ishak.

He was released the following day, under orders not to communicate with Abada and her friend, be in their presence or go to their places of work or study. But Ishak breached those conditions, eventually meeting Abada in a park and going to her workplace, contacting her by phone, and sending her text messages. He was arrested again.

Court of Quebec Justice David Simon said the “assaults committed by the offender are neither trivial nor minimal, far from it. They demonstrate a high degree of violence, manifesting itself repeatedly in various forms: multiple kicks to the body, including to the ribs; snatching the telephone from the victim’s hands; punches to the head; and hair-pulling to drag the victim.” Continue…

The Carney government has announced the establishment of an Independent Military Honours Review Board to review cases of Afghanistan veterans, where new evidence suggests that their bravery meets the criteria for the Canadian Victoria Cross.

“These days in Canada, we have so few precious symbols of our nation to pull us together as Canadians,” said Gen. (ret’d) Rick Hillier, who commanded Canada’s troops in Afghanistan and fought for the review board to be established. In particular, he has advocated the case of Private Jess Larochelle, who fended off an attack from more than 20 Taliban insurgents.

Hillier helped lead six years of lobbying that included 66,000 emails, a parliamentary petition, the Senate, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, unanimous calls from seven provincial legislatures, 109 veterans organizations, generals, admirals, Silver Cross mothers and wounded veterans.

In a high stakes rescue mission, a B.C. pilot successfully evacuated an American doctor’s family after he tested positive for Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Villeneuve, a Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot, flew the family to safety in neighbouring Uganda. The physician who contracted Ebola had been working at the remote Nyankunde Hospital and was evacuated separately to Germany for specialized treatment. The doctor’s wife — also a physician — their children, and another doctor who sustained direct exposure to the virus were aboard the flight piloted by Villeneuve.

The flight, which took place on May 20, lasted an hour and 15 minutes and Dominic Villeneuve, 30, tells National post that he was “not particularly worried for my own well-being.” He said that he was confident in the safety precautions in place, including his wearing PPE for the duration of the flight.

Villeneuve, a Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot, flew the family to safety in neighbouring Uganda. Villeneuve’s dream of becoming a pilot goes right back to his childhood. “My earliest memories are growing up in Kamloops, riding my bike to the airport with my dad and watching the planes come and go. Watching him and dreaming that one day I could become a pilot,” he told National Post. Continue…

Speaking to The Hill Times this week, Graves argued that support for Alberta independence is being fuelled by misinformation spread through social media and AI-generated content, much of it originating from the United States.

Graves claimed Albertans are being exposed to misleading narratives that Canada is “looting” Alberta, that independence would eliminate taxes, or that Alberta would automatically prosper outside Confederation. He suggested Ottawa needs a stronger strategy to counter such information.

“If you could have a successful program which confronted that—and we know there is elasticity in the moderately disinformed, not the extremely disinformed—you could probably move enough pieces that you would really reduce the spectre of this problem," Graves told The Hill Times.

He further argued that Alberta has nearly twice as many people influenced by misinformation as the rest of Canada and warned that foreign actors should not be allowed to spread information that could encourage Albertans to leave Confederation.

In scheduling a referendum to be held asking if Albertans want to hold a binding referendum, Premier Smith may be trying to pacify sovereigntist sentiment within Alberta, but she isn’t threatening the Constitution or any treaty rights.

Child transgender-care advocate appointed president of Canadian Pediatric Society

A doctor heavily involved in the gender transition of minors is now the 2026-2027 head of the Canadian Pediatric Society (CPS).

On May 23, CPS announced Dr. Natasha Johnson would be their new president for a one-year term, the same doctor responsible for founding the Gender Diversity Clinic at McMaster's Children's Hospital back in 2016.

As the name implies, the clinic consists of "services for trans and gender-diverse youth."

Johnson also currently holds the titles of "Chair of Diversity and Inclusion for McMaster University's Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Program," according to her McMaster University professor profile.

In a clip from CTV’s W5 back in 2021, Johnson was interviewed, where she expressed opinions such as how "detransitioning is not only rare — but focusing on it overshadows what she said is a high success rate," as paraphrased by W5.

"In Canada there is data about transition — there is a study of about 500 people who have gone through transition, which includes hormones, blockers, or surgery and 96% report they are satisfied," Johnson cited in the interview.

This contradicts many more recent findings, including a Finnish study from April, which found adolescents exhibited a significant increase of mental health issues after receiving medical gender reassignment surgery and/or hormones.

It was a longitudinal study, following over 2000 individuals under 23 years old who were given gender reassignment treatment between 1996 and 2019.

They found young adults who requested treatment were "significantly" more likely to have mental health issues than their peers before and after referral.

Notably, they discovered those who received treatment after 2010 had "greater" mental health issues both before and after treatment.

This may also suggest that after 2010 "mental health challenges [were more likely to] manifest as concerns related to gender identity."

The research opposes Johnson's statements — pointing instead to gender related concerns in youth being correlated with "mental health challenges," while youth experienced a significant increase in mental health issues after gender treatment.

When Johnson was challenged on the claims young adults do not have the mental bandwidth to make long-term, permanent decisions, she had the following to say:

"I think to assume that in general 13 year olds have no knowledge of the future or of the consequences of decisions, I think would be an overstatement."

"I think each young person needs to be assessed — it is important to share stories of the thousands of people who are satisfied with transition and report it was life-saving," remarked Johnson.

"We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Natasha Johnson as 2026-2027 President! We look forward to the expertise and passion she brings to the role," CPS wrote in their Facebook announcement.

As the National Post reports, CPS is one of the few remaining bodies still holding the position of immediately "affirming" children who report gender dysphoria.

Among those who are no longer taking this approach — the US, Australia, New Zealand, and many countries in Europe have all scrapped their gender "affirming" practices in recent years.

In the UK, when, in 2024, it released the Cass review, a government review of medical treatment related to gender dysphoria for minors, found thousands of minors were prescribed puberty-blocking hormonal treatments with "remarkably weak" evidence of effectiveness or of the long-term consequences.

Another similar statement was echoed back in February by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Medical Association (AMA) both issuing statements to surgeons to stop pushing gender surgeries for youth suggesting the causes of gender dysphoria were temporary.

CPS has not changed their "affirming" position on gender care for minors since 2023.

CPS' statement advocates for children as young as two years of age being capable of detecting a "mismatch" in their gender.

"While gender-affirming surgeries are less commonly performed in the adolescent population, TGD youth may identify surgery as one of their transition goals," it says.

Support for original MAiD law strong but Canadians divided on mental illness expansion

Canadians remain broadly supportive of the country's original assisted dying law, but new polling suggests support weakens sharply when eligibility is expanded to include people who are not near death or those seeking MAiD for mental illness alone.

A new Angus Reid Institute survey released Monday found 77% of Canadians still support the original 2016 Medical Assistance in Dying framework, which applied to people whose deaths were reasonably foreseeable and who were suffering from a severe and irremediable condition.

Support drops for the 2021 expansion of MAiD, which removed the requirement that a person's natural death be reasonably foreseeable.

Canadians are even more divided over whether MAiD should be available when mental illness is the sole underlying condition. The survey found 43% support that expansion, while 39% oppose it and 19% are unsure.

The findings suggest Canadians remain generally supportive of assisted dying in principle, but are increasingly uncertain about how far the law should go.

Mental illness as a sole condition is currently scheduled to become eligible for MAID in 2027, but Angus Reid found most Canadians are unaware of the pending change.

Among Canadians who say they are following the issue, 46% support expanding MAiD to include mental illness alone, while 44% oppose it.

The poll also found widespread concern over whether vulnerable Canadians have adequate support before MAiD eligibility is expanded further.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents, 74%, said government should be required to prove adequate housing, income supports and disability-related care are available to a person with a disability who requests MAiD.

Religious Canadians were more likely to express concern about the rising number of annual MAiD deaths. Angus Reid found 43% of religious Canadians were concerned about the increase, compared to 25% of non-religious Canadians.

The survey also found personal experience with MAiD affects public opinion. Canadians who know someone who used MAiD to end their life, representing 23% of respondents, were more likely to support each version of the law.

A man who beat a mother of three with a baseball bat during a home invasion in west-central British Columbia has been handed a provincial sentence of two years less a day, after a judge concluded he had turned his life around since the drug-fuelled attack.

Craig Brentton Durando, 25, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, and robbery in connection with the September 2023 incident at a Terrace, B.C. home. His sentence was delivered by the B.C. Supreme Court in a ruling last week.

The court heard that Durando and four other friends planned to confront and assault a man named Nicolas Balatti in his home after Balatti and one of the friends got into a “verbal altercation involving mutual threats” at a house party in August 2023, and continued the argument over TikTok and Snapchat.

The group made their way to Balatti’s home in the early hours of the morning of Sept. 5 after one of the men sent him a message stating “see you tonight” accompanied by a kiss emoji.

The court heard Durando, who was 22 at the time, was impaired by cocaine and alcohol when he kicked down the door of Balatti’s home to search for him.

Durando instead found Nicolas’ mother, Kelly Balatti, in bed, according to the agreed statement of facts. He told her to remove her jewelry and lie on the floor, then hit her multiple times with a baseball bat while demanding to know the whereabouts of Nicolas. Continue…

The federal government spent more than $46 million on advertising, marketing and influencer campaigns to promote COVID-19 vaccines, but says it cannot provide a comprehensive accounting of how much money was spent researching vaccine risks and adverse effects.

The figures were disclosed in response to an order paper question submitted by Conservative MP Cathay Wagantall, who asked for a detailed breakdown of federal spending related to COVID-19 vaccine research, promotion, public education and risk communication.

According to the response from Health Canada and the Public Health Agency of Canada, the government ran a series of vaccine promotion campaigns between 2021 and 2023 costing at least $46.7 million.

Among the largest expenditures were:

$11.3 million for the "COVID-19 Vaccine – Ripple Effect" campaign in 2021;

$7 million for the "COVID-19 Vaccine – Kids" campaign;

$5.3 million for the "COVID-19 Vaccine – Ask the Experts" campaign;

$4.9 million for the "Educate and Build Trust" campaign;

$4.8 million for the "Parents" campaign;

More than $132,000 for a dedicated social media influencer campaign.

The government said the campaigns were intended to promote awareness of vaccine availability and provide Canadians with “science-based, factual information” about vaccine safety, effectiveness, side effects and eligibility. Advertising appeared across television, radio, social media, digital platforms, print media, search engines and outdoor advertising.

When asked how much money was spent investigating and researching the risks and adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines, however, Health Canada responded that the information is “not systematically tracked in a centralized database.”

The department said producing a complete response would require a manual collection and validation process that could result in incomplete or inaccurate information.

The government also declined to provide a dollar figure for spending specifically dedicated to informing Canadians about vaccine risks and adverse effects, instead grouping risk information together with broader vaccine education and promotion efforts.

Health Canada noted that its regulators reviewed 189 COVID-19 vaccine submissions between October 2020 and February 2026 and maintained that benefits and risks were often evaluated together as part of the approval process.

Separately, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research reported investing more than $74 million in COVID-19 vaccine research since 2019-20, though it said it does not centrally track the specific information requested in the Order Paper question.

The response leaves unanswered one of the key questions raised by Wagantall: how much taxpayer money was directed toward studying and communicating potential vaccine risks compared to the tens of millions spent promoting vaccine uptake.

Digwa stabbed Nowak in the face, legs and chest.

Nowak tried to flee but he was bleeding profusely. When police arrived, Digwa told police that Nowak was a racist and knocked off his head wrap.

“We’ve just been attacked by someone racially, this [REDACTED]… we’ve been attacked racially by some white person,” Digwa’s brother told police in a 911 call.

Nowak told police that he had been stabbed, but police handcuffed him and dragged him away while he was bleeding out and dying.

“I can’t breathe!” “I’m dying!” the 18-year-old shouted as British police dragged him.

The police did not believe Nowak until it was too late.

“I don’t think you have, mate,” the officer told Nowak.

Moments later, Nowak is seen lying on the ground, lifeless.

Meanwhile, federalist activist Jenn Jefferys took things a step further, mocking independence supporters as "dingdongs" and suggesting they were illiterate.

That's a curious criticism considering that, to date, there have already been at least two major public debates between former Alberta premier Jason Kenney and constitutional lawyer Keith Wilson, one of the leading advocates for Alberta independence.

They were lengthy discussions covering equalization, federal resource policy, constitutional law, economic viability, trade, Indigenous treaties, and Alberta's future inside or outside Confederation.

You don't have to agree with Wilson's conclusions to acknowledge that these debates happened.

In fact, one of the defining characteristics of Alberta's independence movement is that its supporters spend an extraordinary amount of time debating facts, history, constitutional questions, economics, and federal-provincial relations. Entire conferences, town halls, podcasts, policy papers, books, and public forums have emerged around those questions.

The real problem for some federalist commentators isn't that Albertans won't debate. It's that Albertans are debating.

As I noted in this space in April and May, the polyamory “community” has begun their push for legal recognition with earnest. I predicted at least one major news article a month sympathetically profiling the agenda of polyamorists, using almost identical language and tactics.

Well, here we are again. This time, the propaganda column appeared in Canadian Affairs, which is a bit on the nose, but I will refrain from too many jokes if I can. The title lets you know where the publication stands right from the get-go: “Love outside the law.” The subtitle: “A sizable number of Canadians are in polyamorous relationships. Canadian law does not recognize them.”

Now, for comparison, here is CTV’s headline from only a month earlier: “Polyamory is growing in Canada, but the legal system hasn’t caught up.” Notice any similarities?

Well, perhaps that’s just coincidence. Let’s try another paragraph. Here is how Canadian Affairs describes the situation:

To be clear for a moment about what that means: A baby in the womb likely begins to feel pain in the first trimester, and certainly by 24 weeks. Last year in Iowa, a premature baby survived after being born at 21 weeks. Arthur supports abortion—a violent and profoundly painful process—even when the baby can survive outside the womb. Even when she sucks her thumb and recognizes her mother’s voice.

Thus, when Joyce Arthur calls something “cruel,” you can be sure that something approximating the opposite is happening. This, after all, is someone who thinks abortion is compassionate healthcare (the crushing of baby skulls notwithstanding), and that objecting to the violence of abortion is reprehensible.

Sure enough, Arthur has surfaced to bestow her wisdom on the Canadian public once again—although this time, she is advocating for killing at the end of life’s spectrum rather than the beginning. CBC’s June 1 headline makes it clear that they agree with her: “Manitoba MAID law ‘punishing’ 94-year-old woman, pro-choice group says.”

To translate, Arthur is claiming that because a 94-year-old woman in Steinbach, Manitoba, does not qualify for euthanasia under Canada’s currently (very permissive) regime, the law is “punishing” that woman.

“It’s a mark of cruelty and trauma that’s inflicted on her,” Arthur told the CBC. “She’s having to resort to desperate methods like stopping her heart medication and antibiotics. She is forced to live in a hospital rather than a nice palliative care center, far from home. So the law is actually punishing her. And it’s really, really unjust and really unfortunate.” Continue…

The Permanent Peoples’ Tribunal (PPT), an opinion human rights tribunal, ordered to look into "the missing and disappeared indigenous children and unmarked graves, and the forced and coerced sterilisation of indigenous women" in Canadian indigenous communities.

They claimed to base their judgement on "international law for the crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity."

The PPT's final decision came Sunday, with seven judges comprising the panel and adopting several policies they deemed were "crimes against humanity" with "genocidal intent," including the "concrete manifestation of Canada's colonial policies," namely residential schools.

"Between 4,000 and 6,000 children are known to have died in these institutions, or shortly after leaving them (sometimes running away) in the century and a half up until 1997, when the last institution, Kivalliq Hall in Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, closed," claimed the judges' statement.

BC Court to Hear Appeal of Woman Fined $10K for Private Remarks

The Supreme Court of British Columbia will hear an appeal by a woman ordered her to pay a $10,000 penalty after remarks she made in a private conversation with a friend were ruled discriminatory by a B.C. tribunal.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) confirmed the hearing in a release this week, saying it will represent the woman.

According to the findings of the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, B.C. resident Kristin Olsen and Terry Wiebe were longtime friends who also shared work and living arrangements before their relationship deteriorated.

Wiebe lived in a motorhome on Olsen’s property from 2014 to 2018. Following a dispute between the two, Wiebe filed a complaint with the tribunal in 2019.

Wiebe, who identifies as transgender, alleged that Olsen discriminated against her for her gender identity after Wiebe expressed to Olsen her desire to get “top surgery” to remove her breasts. According to the ruling, the tribunal had accepted that Olsen was concerned about Wiebe getting top surgery because of her mother’s battle with breast cancer and concerns with the medical risks of the surgery.

The ruling said that Olsen had advised Wiebe not to go through with the surgery, and that she was “fine as a lesbian” and did not need to “mutilate” her body. Olsen denied using the word “mutilate,” but the tribunal found it “more likely than not” that Olsen had used the term. Continue…

Under the Response to Illicit Drugs Act, which came into effect on June 1, individuals harmed by illicit drug activity can bring civil actions to recover damages from people who produce, traffic, import, or export highly addictive drugs, the province said in a June 1 news release.

“By bringing this Act into force, the Government of Saskatchewan is ensuring that those who profit from trafficking deadly substances face meaningful consequences for the damage they cause,” Saskatchewan Justice Minister and Attorney General Tim McLeod said.

“At the same time, our government continues to address mental health and addictions through expanded treatment and recovery supports.”

The Act would also allow provincial authorities to void appointments, grants, and agreements held by an individual or entity convicted of offences related to Schedule I drugs including fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, morphine, codeine, and other highly addictive drugs.

Asked by reporters in Parliament on June 2 whether Canada was in a recession, Carney responded by saying his government had “been in the process of laying the foundations for a stronger, more resilient, more independent” Canadian economy. He said this involved the “difficult” work of making major investments, changing the way government operates, and securing trade agreements with other countries.

“As we do all that, the data is going to be uneven, and we will see some weakness,” Carney said.

Carney also said his government had tightened immigration policies, leading to slower population growth and, in turn, weaker economic activity. Canada’s population had increased by more than 3 million people from 2020 to 2025 due to immigration, but Ottawa began lowering its target immigration levels in 2024.

Huge numbers of protesters gathered outside a Southampton police station on Tuesday night led by Tommy Robinson in order to demand justice for Henry Nowak.

Nowak, an 18-year-old white British teenager, was killed last December by Vickrum Digwa, a Sikh man who falsely claimed he had been racially abused before the attack.

He may have survived had officers not handcuffed him while he lay bleeding from stab wounds inflicted with by Digwa’s Sikh ceremonial sword.

Police bodycam footage showed that when Nowak told an officer he had been stabbed, the officer replied: “Don’t think you have mate.”

Digwa, 23, was jailed for life on Monday after being convicted of murdering Nowak as the teenager walked back to his student accommodation in the city of Southampton. Continue…

Top NIH virologist and gain-of-function advocate, Vincent Munster, has been charged with allegedly smuggling undeclared pathogen samples into America from Africa.

For years, animal testing watchdog White Coat Waste has documented how Munster’s reckless, cruel experiments on primates and bats waste millions in taxpayer dollars while posing serious biosafety and national security risks.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan announced that Munster, 53, a Dutch citizen and Chief of the Virus Ecology Section at NIH’s Rocky Mountain Laboratories (RML) in Hamilton, Montana, and his colleague Claude Kwe, 38, a Cameroonian research fellow in Munster’s lab, were charged in a criminal complaint with conspiracy to smuggle monkeypox into the United States and making false statements to federal law enforcement.

According to the Justice Department complaint, Munster and Kwe flew into Detroit Metropolitan Airport’s McNamara Terminal on January 25 after traveling from Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, where a monkeypox outbreak was actively underway.

Customs and Border Protection officers noticed the pair carrying a large black plastic case. When questioned, both men falsely claimed it contained only “diagnostics and testing equipment.”

According to the DOJ, “subsequent investigation by CBP and FBI agents revealed that the case actually contained 113 vials in Styrofoam coolers. As of the date of the complaint, the FBI has tested 20 of the 113 vials. Seventeen of them contained deactivated monkeypox virus, one contained the Chickenpox virus, and two contained only human DNA.”

The press release added, “the work of both men is focused on ’emerging viral pathogens’ and how those pathogens ‘cross the species barrier.’ They work at a Biosafety Level 4 laboratory, which employs the highest level of biosafety precautions for scientific research of known and potential human pathogens.”

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. did not mince words: “These NIH experts apparently broke our laws by smuggling viral pathogens on a packed commercial airplane from an outbreak in the Republic of Congo. Let that sink in.”

FBI Detroit Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Runyan added, “No researchers should believe their positions, credentials, or professional status place them above the law… The allegations in this case are serious. They involve the dangerous and unlawful smuggling of deactivated Mpox virus into the United States and alleged efforts to mislead our federal agents.”

According to the library's own description, the Writer-in-Residence program is intended to provide advice and assistance to local writers while also allowing the selected author to devote time to a specific writing project.

Under the terms of the program, the writer is required to spend at least 16 hours per week fulfilling public-facing duties, including reading manuscripts and meeting with aspiring writers in Regina. The remainder of the writer's work time can be devoted to personal projects.

Many contemporary blueprints are available for the formation of a new, sovereign state. In fact, over 70 new countries have been created around the world just since 1966. The process for all of those new countries to gain independence wasn’t simple either. Many of them didn’t have guiding documents such as the Clarity Act to chart the pathway for them. Yet they managed.

“There would have to be a negotiation between Canada and Alberta, to negotiate the terms of departure and issues like that would have be considered,” Kennedy said. There is currently ongoing negotiation between Canada and Alberta just to get a pipeline approved. The province is getting plenty of practice in dealing with intransigent political leaders in Ottawa already.

The change will eliminate the province’s paper health cards and will consolidate all essential information onto an individual’s driver’s licence or an Alberta ID card for those who do not drive.

The cause of death for the missing scientist who was discovered dead in a New Mexico forest has been reportedly revealed, but it is simply raising more questions.

As The Gateway Pundit reported on Monday, New Mexico State Police announced that they identified the remains of 54-year-old Melissa Casias, a scientist and nuclear lab employee, who worked as an administrative assistant at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

Casias was last seen alive on June 26, 2025. Her body was found in the McGaffey Ridge area of the Carson National Forest.

This is about six miles from the last place Casias was seen walking before being declared missing.

Although the New Mexico State Police have yet to release an official cause of death, the Daily Mail has learned that her body had a gunshot wound to the skull, and a gun was found close by.

In addition, her body was found skeletonized and propped up in a seated position against a tree in a remote part of the National Forest.

While at first glance this may suggest suicide, Arizona-based investigator Thomas McNally does not agree. He has been working on the case of Casias’s disappearance on behalf of her parents, Joe and Joanne Mondragon.

John Bolton To Plead Guilty In Documents Case, Pay $2M Fine: Report

Under the agreement, Bolton will pay a fine of more than $2 million. A single count of illegal retention carries a possible sentence of up to 60 months in prison.

A court hearing is currently scheduled for June 26.

Bolton was originally charged in Maryland with eight counts of transmission of national defense information and ten counts of retention of national defense information. The charges centered on diary-like entries from his time in the Trump White House that were allegedly kept at his residence.

Prosecutors accused him of sharing more than 1,000 pages of information through his personal email with two unauthorized individuals - reportedly his wife and daughter - though these transmission allegations are not part of the plea deal.

While support for Alberta independence has always been a factor in Alberta politics, Justin Trudeau’s tenure in the prime minister’s office brought it up to record levels.

During the Harper era, support for Alberta independence polled at 19 percent. Two years after Justin Trudeau’s election in 2016, independence support had risen to 25 percent.

With Trudeau’s re-election in 2019, independence support rose to 33 percent.

Now with Mark Carney as prime minister, support for Alberta independence has blossomed into a full movement with a referendum scheduled this fall. That never could have come about without Trudeau planting the seeds of dissent in Alberta in 2016 and fostering it for over a decade.

Guilbeault’s claim that support for Alberta independence has remained stable for 20 years is pure mistruth.

Liberal commenter David Herle says Albertans should ask North Dakota what happens to a landlocked, oil-producing jurisdiction. Many Albertans have.

North Dakota produces roughly CAD$141,679 in economic output per person, compared to approximately CAD$71,708 in Alberta. Personal income is also substantially higher, at roughly CAD$90,662 per person compared to Alberta's approximately CAD$61,200.

That's remarkable when you consider North Dakota has a fraction of Alberta's oil reserves and population.

The comparison highlights exactly why many Albertans are frustrated.

Albertans look south and see a resource-producing jurisdiction that has been allowed to develop its energy industry with fewer political obstacles. They look at home and see years of federal carbon taxes, emissions caps, tanker bans, Bill C-69 and other policies aimed at restricting the very industry that pays the bills.

The argument isn't that Alberta would become North Dakota. The argument is that Alberta should be outperforming North Dakota.

Many independence supporters believe Alberta's economic potential is being constrained by federal governments repeatedly elected by voters in Ontario and Quebec, leaving Albertans unable to meaningfully change the direction of national energy policy.

North Dakota is not evidence that a landlocked energy-producing jurisdiction cannot prosper. Many Albertans see it as evidence that they can—and that Alberta could be doing even better if its largest industry wasn't being targeted by federal policy.

But political speech is not a threat to democracy. It's democracy in action.

The billboard contains a political opinion on a matter Albertans may soon vote on. It was reportedly placed through a registered third-party advertiser and includes the required authorization statement.

Whether you support independence or oppose it, the principle is the same: Albertans have the right to advocate for their position.

The answer to a billboard you don't like is another billboard, not an attempt to have the first one taken down.

The idea that lawful political advertising somehow threatens democracy gets things backwards. Democracy depends on free political speech, especially during referendum campaigns.

The federal government has spent more than $194,000 on Canadian flag pins and desk flags manufactured in China, according to a newly released Order Paper response tabled in Parliament.

The disclosure comes in response to Question Q-1077 from Conservative MP Arnold Viersen, which asked Canadian Heritage to detail its purchases of Canadian flags, flag pins and related products since January 2022.

Records show Canadian Heritage purchased three million plastic Canadian flag lapel pins from a Chinese manufacturer in September 2024 at a cost of $143,400. The department also bought 44,117 floating metal flag pins from China in January 2023 for $14,999.78, another 72,400 metal flag pins in November 2024 for $20,996, and 8,770 desk flags made in China for $14,996.70.

In total, Canadian Heritage spent $194,392.48 on Chinese-made flag-themed merchandise while simultaneously purchasing most of its full-sized Canadian flags from Canadian manufacturer L'Étendard.

The department spent more than $2.5 million on Canadian-made full-size nylon flags between 2022 and early 2026, including orders ranging from 9,700 to 30,100 flags. It also purchased paper hand flags from Canadian suppliers Broadway Import Export and Tobermory Press.

When asked why foreign-made products were selected instead of Canadian manufacturers, Canadian Heritage offered a brief explanation.

"For purchase of products manufactured outside of Canada, purchases were made pursuant to current Government of Canada procurement processes," the department stated.

The revelation stands in contrast to a longstanding Liberal commitment to source Canadian flag merchandise domestically.

In 2005, then-Liberal Public Works Minister Scott Brison pledged to end the practice of purchasing Canadian flag pins made in China after media reports highlighted the contradiction. At the time, the federal government announced it would seek Canadian suppliers for the patriotic merchandise distributed by MPs and government departments.

More than two decades later, millions of Chinese-made Canadian flag pins are still being purchased with taxpayer dollars.

The Order Paper response was signed by Canadian Identity and Culture Minister Marc Miller and released on June 3, 2026.

"The path forward is not to criminalize speech, questions, or debate," Pete wrote on X, arguing instead for empathy toward residential school attendees and "truth based on facts."

A total of 90 organizations have now demanded that the Canadian federal government stop a planned expansion of euthanasia to those with mental illness.

Multiple disability, mental health, and other groups recently sent letters to Prime Minister Mark Carney, his Health Minister Marjorie Michel, and Justice Minister Sean Fraser, calling for Bill C-7, which seeks to expand the deadly practice, to be quashed.

Combined, the groups say that vulnerable Canadians, in specific, those with disabilities, are at risk should euthanasia be expanded, noting that support for those with mental health issues is not adequate.

Overall, the groups are asking that people with mental illnesses be permanently excluded from accessing Canada’s “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAID) regime, as it’s known.

Currently, a parliamentary committee of MPs as well as senators is looking into the potential expansion of assisted suicide in Canada next year.

Two investigations by a southern Ontario police force has led to the arrest of four men and the disruption of two auto theft networks operating across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).

The arrests follow investigations led by Halton Regional Police Service in Oakville, Ont., earlier this year, according to a June 4 press release.

Police launched “Project Joker” in April after officers traced the theft of a Lexus SUV to two suspects with alleged connections to a Quebec-based organized crime group.

“Investigators subsequently identified a rental vehicle associated with the suspects and conducted surveillance,” said the press release. “During the investigation, the suspects were observed stealing and attempting to steal vehicles in Oakville and Mississauga.”

Officers arrested Dany Hamel-Poirier, 27, and Damian Daneau, 20, both residents of Montreal on May 22 in connection with the case.

Police said that Hamel-Poirier was found to have multiple outstanding warrants in Ontario and Quebec, in connection with approximately 40 criminal charges, including auto theft. He is also on probation for previous auto theft convictions, and has multiple release orders in Quebec for related charges, the release says. Continue…

“My position is simple: compassion for those who suffered from COVID-19 and compassion for those who were injured following the vaccination, and a commitment to transparency, accountability, and giving people a chance to share their stories and to be heard,” Allison told reporters in Ottawa on June 4.

The Allison Inquiry website describes the initiative as a non-partisan inquiry that will hear from Canadians who reported injuries related to COVID-19 vaccines. The hearings are scheduled to be broadcast live from Sept. 8 to Sept. 11. The inquiry may also hear from experts to give context on the issue, but it will not make findings of fact or reach any final conclusions, according to the website.

Allison said that he appreciated the health care workers who carried an “enormous burden” during the pandemic, but said some Canadians who suffered serious adverse events following COVID-19 vaccinations “feel their stories have not been adequately heard.”

The Conservative MP noted that, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada, 58,000 adverse events from COVID-19 vaccines have been reported, including more than 11,000 that were classified as serious. The data has not been updated since January 2024.

Allison also noted that, while the Vaccine Injury Support Program (VISP) received more than 3,500 claims, only 250 people have been compensated for their injuries. Allison said there are “legitimate questions” about whether the support program is delivering the assistance Canadians need. Continue…

In a joint security bulletin, intelligence agencies from the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand said Chinese operatives target individuals, including military personnel and academics, with access to classified or privileged information.

The bulletin, titled “Safeguarding Our Secrets,” was released jointly by the FBI, the UK’s MI5, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation, and the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service.

“China’s military intelligence services are using an increasingly wide array of professional networking sites and online job platforms to target Five Eyes government and military personnel—and anyone with access to classified or privileged information,” the agencies said in the bulletin.

Western security agencies have repeatedly warned that Chinese intelligence-gathering efforts span both cyberoperations and human recruitment networks.

The highway was closed at approximately 10 am until 6:55 pm. According to authorities, a person was found dead inside the vehicle, which was surrounded by shell casings, according to CBS. Authorities have not released the cause of death.

Initially, the vehicle was seen on the Eisenhower Expressway in Cook County. Illinois State Police reportedly called in an “explosion.”

Nestlé CEO Philipp Navratil is the latest to warn Swiss citizens that a vote to cap the population at 10 million would not be good for business.

"Switzerland has established and created the conditions that enable a global company like us to thrive," Navratil said at the Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken on Friday, who was quoted by Bloomberg.

"It is important that these conditions and advantages in Switzerland remain in place. When we vote in the coming weeks, we need to keep that in mind," Navratil added.

Navratil's comments come just days after UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti called the hard-cap vote an "extreme initiative."

The proposal has received strong support in many local polls, though the latest polling data puts opposition just north of 50% for the first time.

Switzerland's population is already above 9.1 million, and estimates suggest migration would need to fall by at least half to avoid hitting the proposed ceiling by 2050.

Ukrainian drone explodes in Romanian port

A Ukrainian maritime drone exploded in the Romanian port of Constanta on Friday morning, prompting a major emergency response and an evacuation of the area.

The unmanned boat was discovered in the port several hundred meters from the oil terminal area. It was reportedly carrying explosives and became stuck in an anti-pollution barrier before detonating. The location is also close to the headquarters of the Romanian Agency for Saving Human Life at Sea.

Romania’s Defense Ministry said that the vessel self-detonated at around 10:30 AM without causing casualties. The area had already been secured and isolated by the Romanian authorities while the drone was being assessed.

The ministry stated that the drone did not belong to the Romanian military and had not been involved in recent exercises in the Black Sea, describing it as being “of the type used in the war in Ukraine.”

Authorities in Kiev have since confirmed that the drone belongs to the Ukrainian navy, stating that the device had lost control and drifted towards the Romanian port.

Local media reported that following the initial explosion, three more drones had detonated. Another one near the Port of Constanta, and two more in Ukrainian waters.

However, omitted from the CBC's reporting were remarks suggesting that opposition to Alberta sovereignty could involve direct action aimed at Alberta's economy and transportation networks.

Treaty 8 chiefs in Alberta are demanding that Premier Danielle Smith call off the referendum scheduled this fall. Trevor Mercredi claims the premier shirked the “duty to consult” and said the province is “on a course towards a direct constitutional conflict” with Treaty 8 bands.

The chief's language leans into a threatening tone, as he has accused the provincial government of being lawless as they added an ominous “or else” to their demand letter.

Chief Mercredi talked about blocking resource projects and “getting out on the highway” if their demands aren’t indulged.

Despite the claims of the oft-aggrieved chiefs, there is no implicit or explicit duty to consult within Canadian law or the Constitution when it comes to holding a non-binding referendum.

Section 35 of the Constitution is what people often reference when claiming there is a constitutional duty to consult native folks on things. The word consult doesn’t appear anywhere in Section 35, however, much less consent.

Section 35 of the Constitution Act states:

1. (1) The existing aboriginal and treaty rights of the aboriginal peoples of Canada are hereby recognized and affirmed.

(2) In this Act, “aboriginal peoples of Canada” includes the Indian, Inuit and Métis peoples of Canada.

(3) For greater certainty, in subsection (1) “treaty rights” includes rights that now exist by way of land claims agreements or may be so acquired.

(4) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, the aboriginal and treaty rights referred to in subsection

(1) are guaranteed equally to male and female persons.

That’s it. That’s all. It doesn’t confer a right to consult on anything.

That said, a Supreme Court ruling in 2004 did read a duty to consult into the Constitution with a decision in the Haida case. It should be noted, that the same ruling also expressly said Indigenous bands do not have a right of veto over anything.

The duty to consult is only to apply when something may impact treaty rights. There is utterly nothing within a non-binding referendum which may impact treaty rights in any way.

Treaties are simple documents that mostly determine the boundaries of a reserve while ceding land to the Crown forever. Over 98% of Alberta’s land mass was permanently ceded in the treaties. Non-binding referenda won’t impact that.

The chiefs would be well served to study what the duty to consult actually means before threatening Albertans over the holding of a democratic exercise.

They should also read the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act created by former premier Jason Kenney, which offers severe penalties for obstructing utility infrastructure or highways before considering whatever they mean by “or else.”

Michael Scoretz faces 13 charges after investigators said work-related materials were found at his home on Bowen Island, just off the coast of Vancouver, the RCMP said in a June 4 press release.

The 47-year-old former officer was charged with six counts of unauthorized communication of special operational information and seven counts of breach of trust, police said.

Scoretz was working with the RCMP’s Pacific Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) between August 2020 and February 2023. He joined the federal police force in 2009 and retired last year. The RCMP alleges the information sharing occurred while he was a member of INSET.

The Mounties said Scoretz was bound by confidentiality under the Security of Information Act during his tenure with the team and allege that he disclosed protected or classified information to people he was “in a relationship with.”

A synagogue in Montreal was targeted by arson shortly after midnight on June 5 and police have a suspect in custody.

The attack against the Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom in the affluent City of Westmount near downtown is the latest in a string of similar incidents in Montreal and elsewhere in Canada.

Windows at the back of the building, which is accessible through an alley, have traces of fire and one window was broken.

Chad Lubelsky, executive director of the temple, said rocks were thrown at one of the windows near the rabbi’s office followed by two Molotov cocktails. The synagogue had two employees on site but no one was injured.

“The security systems that we have responded as they should,” Lubelsky told The Epoch Times in an interview. “At the same time, obviously, we’re deeply concerned about this incident.”

The Westmount Public Safety Department and the Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) responded and a 38-year-old suspect was apprehended. His identity has not been released and the SPVM said charges are pending as the investigation unfolds. Continue…

The construction of an artificial intelligence data centre on a 141-hectare tract of farmland southeast of Winnipeg will not proceed, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says.

The immense scale of the project, the energy it will require, and its effects on the community of Île-des-Chênes outweigh the benefits, Kinew told reporters at the Manitoba legislature.

“There’s a big threat to the environment and not much benefit to the economy,” Kinew said at a June 4 press conference.

He said he has reservations about future demand for such large-scale centres, considering the advancements in computing.

“I reject the idea that we have to be slaves to surveillance capitalism in order to participate in the modern economy, and so the message to any company out there should be, if you want to have a thoughtful, human-centred approach to technology, come to Manitoba, because that’s what we’re interested in,” Kinew said. “We’re not going to move ahead.”

Canada’s economy added 88,000 jobs in May, pushing the unemployment rate down to 6.6 percent and partially counteracting the decline in employment so far this year, according to federal data.

The job growth last month allowed Canada to recover nearly 80 percent of the net 112,000 jobs lost during the first four months of 2026, Statistics Canada said in a June 6 report.

The unemployment rate fell to 6.6 percent in May from 6.9 percent in April, StatCan said.

The job growth in May was concentrated in full-time work, with a net addition of 154,000 jobs, StatCan said. In contrast, part-time employment fell by 66,200.

The job gains sharply exceeded the expectations of economists, who had generally anticipated an increase of 10,000 jobs in May and a stable unemployment rate.

Youth also experienced a stronger summer job season compared to the challenging labour market of 2025, according to the report. Continue…

A trans prisoner was convicted of assaulting a 12-year-old girl and two women in 1998. Amanda Joy Cooper was living as a biological male at the time of the crimes.

Cooper grabbed the girl while she was rollerskating in a parking lot, and told her, “I’ll rape you,” according to Quebec court documents. Days later, Cooper attacked a young woman at the same location. Two days after that, Cooper assaulted a 19-year-old woman at a bus shelter.

Prior to those incidents, Cooper had been convicted of sexual assault multiple times. While in federal custody for the first time in 1986, Cooper sexually touched female prison staff and sexually assaulted a female parole officer. Cooper was designated a dangerous offender in 2001.

Cooper now identifies as a woman and, while in prison, had gender-affirming surgery, described by the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons as surgery to help a person “physically actualize their internal sense of self.”

Cooper wants to be transferred from Millhaven Institution, a maximum-security prison for men west of Kingston, Ont., to the Fraser Valley Institution for Women in British Columbia.

Cooper’s case, which will be reviewed by a federal court judge on June 15, is part of a growing debate over how to handle inmates who request prison placement based on gender identity, rather than anatomy.

The debate pits the wishes of transgender women to be in an institution that matches their gender identity with the concerns of other women in those institutions over their own safety and privacy. Continue…

Allan Schoenborn was found not criminally responsible for the deaths of his children on account of mental disorder

A man convicted in the brutal killing of his three children has been granted conditional discharge by the British Columbia Review Board.

In 2010, Allan Schoenborn was found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder for the first-degree murders of his three children: Cordon, aged five, Max, eight and Kaitlynne, 10, at their Merritt, B.C., home in 2008.

He appeared before the board for his annual hearing on Monday to request the 12-month conditional discharge.

The B.C. Review Board decision, which took effect on June 2, says Schoenborn is to attend a psychiatric clinic for treatment, live in a supervised place, and stay at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam, B.C., if ordered to do so by the board.

He must also report any intimate relationships, be on good behaviour, and not possess or use any weapons or drugs.

Former B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad said the Review Board’s decision was “wrong” in a social media post on Thursday.

“This man needs to be locked away,” he wrote. “He should not be getting any kind of discharge, conditional or otherwise. After what he did, the public has every right to expect that he remains under the strictest supervision for the rest of his life.” Continue…

An illegal alien from Mexico has been charged after stabbing two women and an infant to death in Modesto, California, after the state of California released him back into the community following four different arrests for driving under the influence.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) previously requested an immigration detainer following his most recent arrest in June 2025, but California refused to cooperate, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced.

Now, he faces felony charges of homicide and cruelty toward a child after the fatal stabbings.

Fabiola Gonzalez-Nunez, 23, and Maria Sylvia Nunez-Villalobos, 54, were pronounced dead at the scene. Gonzalez-Nunez’s infant, Mateo Gonzalez, died at the hospital.

Police believe the 28-year-old, Joaquin Escoto Vazquez, was in a relationship and may share a child with the mother of the murdered infant, 23-year-old Fabiola Gonzalez-Nunez.

Vasquez was found hiding in a nearby residence after fleeing the scene.

Arkansas Dad and Sheriff Candidate Cleared After Shooting Death of Daughter’s Alleged Molester

In 2025, The Gateway Pundit reported that an Arkansas father, Aaron Spencer, who killed a man he discovered in a car with his 14-year-old daughter last year, announced that he is running for sheriff in Lonoke County after the system failed his daughter.

As TGP’s Brian Lupo previously reported, Spencer called the Lonoke County Sheriff’s Department on October 8, 2024, to report his missing 14-year-old daughter.

While deputies were en route to his home, Spencer called back around 1:12 am to inform dispatch that he had found his daughter in a truck with Michael Fosler, a 67-year-old man.

After pursuing Fosler, there was a vehicle crash, at which point an altercation allegedly ensued. Spencer shot Fosler during the altercation.

Fosler had previously been arrested and booked in July by another agency for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault, according to Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley.

In October 2024, Spencer was initially charged with the second-degree murder of Fosler.

Now, according to court records obtained by Fox News Digital, “Special Circuit Court Judge Ralph Wilson Jr. dismissed the charges against Spencer on Thursday.”

According to reports, The mother of Henry Nowak’s killer, Vickrum Digwa (also referred to as Vickrum Singh Digwa), hid the murder weapon.

Digwa called his parents and they arrived at the scene before police.

Kiran Kaur (Digwa’s mother) took the knife from the scene before police arrived and hid it at their family home in nearby St Denys. Police later recovered it.

She took the knife home while Henry was bleeding out on the ground.

Kaur later was charged with assisting an offender (by removing/hiding the murder weapon) and found guilty by a jury. Digwa himself was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years (sentencing on 1–2 June 2026).
