Talarico Faces Questions About Relationship With Former Staffer, Abortion Lobbyist

The Democrat Senate candidate says he began dating former chief of staff Brianna Menard after she left his office, but the campaign declined to answer additional questions about staff relationships and lawmakers dating lobbyists.

As Democrat U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico is now publicly discussing a long-term romantic relationship that he previously kept private, questions are emerging about when the relationship began and whether it overlapped with his girlfriend’s employment in his legislative office.

Recently, Talarico revealed that he has been dating the same woman for roughly four years.

Based on public records, social media posts, and legislative employment histories, that woman has been identified as Brianna Menard, a former top aide who worked in Talarico’s office before later becoming a lobbyist for the Texas Medical Association.

Legislative employment records show Menard served in Talarico’s office for several years, rising from legislative director to chief of staff before departing in early 2023.

The timeline has drawn scrutiny because Talarico has publicly stated the relationship has lasted approximately four years. Menard remained employed in his office until early 2023, meaning a four-year relationship would overlap with at least part of her tenure as his chief of staff.

Today, Menard works for the Texas Medical Association as a lobbyist. According to TexasLobby.org, abortion is among her areas of expertise.

Talarico’s campaign says the couple developed feelings while Menard worked as his chief of staff but did not begin dating until after she left his office. The campaign did not address questions about whether Talarico sees any concerns with lawmakers being in relationships with lobbyists.

Additionally, Talarico’s campaign did not answer whether this was the only romantic relationship the candidate has had with a staffer.

Outside of the timeline questions, Menard’s personal background reflects many of the progressive causes often associated with Talarico’s political brand.

Publicly available biographical information indicates Menard has been involved with Cooperation Texas, an Austin-based far-left activist organization focused on “dismantling racism, classism, and oppression.”

She has also publicly described herself as a vegan and has referenced spending time at Austin’s Cheer Up Charlies, an Austin venue known for hosting drag performances and catering to the city’s progressive activist scene.

A Talarico campaign spokesman told the NY Post that Talarico was not vegan, “much to his girlfriend’s chagrin.”

Knicks' Finals run prompts NYC mayor to repeal kids' bedtimes

Buzz for the Knicks' first NBA Finals run since 1999 is taking over New York City, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani is making sure the youth can enjoy it unimpeded.

The 112th mayor of New York City signed an executive order Monday with the title "repealing kids' bedtimes for Knicks Finals run." New York faces the San Antonio Spurs in a quest for its first NBA championship since 1973.

Mamdani signed the document with a group of young students around his desk, some of whom wore Knicks jerseys. Handprints of kids appeared on the opposite side of the order.

Details of the order include the importance for New Yorkers of all ages to support the team in its run for the title. A key hindrance for younger fans could be their bedtimes as each NBA Finals game tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET. However, Mamdani has that one covered.

He writes: "WHEREAS, bedtimes should not impede the ability of New York's Cutest to cheer for the Knicks and watch every second of this historic Championship series."

Section 1 puts it more definitively: "I hereby direct that bedtimes in the City of New York are repealed during the NBA Finals so that kids of all ages can root for their New York Knicks." Mamdani also added a section for "Go New York Go New York Go," lyrics from a popular team anthem released in 1993.

"As Mayor, you're forced to make many difficult decisions," Mamdani wrote on X. "This was not one of them."

The 34-year-old has been vocal during New York's road to the NBA Finals.

He jokingly blamed former Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and noted Knicks villain for the high ticket prices of New York's first-round matchup with Atlanta. When the Knicks swept the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference finals, Mamdani tagged New York City sanitation on social media and wrote: "I'd like to report a sweep." He also took in Game 2 of the series at Madison Square Garden.

San Antonio hosts Game 1 and 2 of the NBA Finals, which begin Wednesday (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC), before the series shifts to New York. Kids around the city will likely be tuned in late – courtesy of Mamdani.

Serena Williams announces comeback to professional tennis

Serena Williams, after nearly four years since her last match, is officially making her comeback to professional tennis.

Williams, 44, announced Monday that she has accepted a wild-card invitation to play doubles in next week's HSBC Championships, a 500-level event held at Queen's Club in London.

"Queen's Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter," Williams said in an announcement from the tournament. "Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I'm excited to be back competing on one of the sport's most iconic stages."

In addition to 23 major titles, the most by any woman in the Open era, Williams has won 73 career singles titles, four Olympic gold medals and has spent 319 weeks at No. 1 in the WTA rankings. She has won 14 major doubles titles alongside sister Venus and is the only player to record a career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles.

The WTA confirmed Williams' return with a post, writing Williams was "officially returning to the stage."

"Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all-time, with a legacy that extends far beyond the court," WTA chair Valerie Camillo said in a statement. "Her return is an expression of her passion for competition, and I cannot wait to see her face a new generation of top players.

"Serena is not just a great champion. She's a successful entrepreneur, a powerful advocate for the issues that matter – and one of the most iconic women in the world. We are thrilled to welcome her back to the WTA Tour at this hugely exciting moment for women's tennis."

Williams has earned over $94 million in prize money throughout her career and is believed to be the highest-paid female athlete of all time.

She first teased her return on Monday morning with a social media video from longtime sponsor Nike. In the 17-second clip, Williams can be seen on the tennis court walking over to her buzzing phone while text reading "Guess everybody heard the news" is then shown.

Minutes later, the HSBC Championships announced Williams' return on social media with a post saying, "The Queen returns."

Though a return on grass will raise speculation about Wimbledon, which starts June 28, Williams has yet to announce what other tournaments she will be playing. Jill Smoller, Williams' agent, has yet to respond to ESPN's request for comment.

In August 2022, Williams, citing her desire to grow her family, announced in an essay for Vogue that she would be playing her last tournament at the US Open the following month. In the essay, she opted to use the world "evolve" instead of "retire," and expressed her mixed feelings on the topic.

"One thing I'm not going to do is sugarcoat this," Williams wrote then. "I know that a lot of people are excited about and look forward to retiring, and I really wish I felt that way."

Williams had fueled speculation of a comeback in the fall after reentering the International Tennis Integrity Agency's (ITIA) drug-testing pool, which is required to be allowed to compete again. She denied the rumors in December, writing "Omg yall I'm NOT coming back" on X.

But practice footage alongside Alycia Parks, currently the world No. 79, shared on social media in early March did little to stop the chatter. Parks then revealed that they had been training together while she was at home in Florida up to "three times a week."

"She is in great shape," Parks told Tennis Majors in February. "So I think she would kill it on tour."

Reports surfaced last week that Williams had requested a wild card for the HSBC Championships to play doubles alongside world No. 9 Victoria Mboko, though her partner at Queen's Club has yet to be made official.

"Serena brought the game to another level and it is incredible for the sport that she's pushing the boundaries and coming back," said Martina Navratilova, the previous oldest former No. 1 to launch a comeback after retirement, at 43 years, 10 months.

"To many of the younger players, they never had the opportunity to play her; some may have never watched her on television so this will be a new and exciting experience," Navratilova said.

Several WTA players have expressed excitement about Williams' potential return.

"She's a legend. It's inspiring to see," top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka said. "I'm excited to see her play and probably face her. … It's very good news for tennis."

"That would be really cool," Coco Gauff said. "I did say one of my biggest regrets was not being able to play her. … We'll see. But I think it would be cool for the sport to have a legend back playing."

Co-founder of 'green' bank gets 14 years for defrauding lenders, investors

A federal judge wasn't persuaded that Joe Sanberg was only motivated by a desire to do good when he lied to Aspiration Partners' lenders and investors.

The co-founder of Aspiration Partners, a Southern California-based, environmentally-conscious online bank, was sentenced on Monday to 14 years in federal prison for defrauding lenders and investors out of $248 million.

U.S. District Judge Stephen Wilson in Los Angeles rebuffed Joe Sanberg’s bid to be spared prison all together because of his past anti-poverty work and his purported good intentions in trying to save the struggling bank he helped set up in 2013.

“The circumstances of this offense are among the worst I have encountered,” said Wilson, a Ronald Reagan appointee who has served more than 40 years as a federal judge. “This case has touched almost every badge of fraud.”

Sanberg, 46, pleaded guilty in 2025 to two counts of wire fraud. He admitted that in 2020 he fraudulently helped obtain a $55 million loan from a lender affiliated with UBS Group by scheming with one of Aspiration board members to submit forged brokerage statements that suggested that this board member had tens of millions in dollars in liquid assets to, in the event of a default, buy the collateral Sanberg had posted to secure the loan.

While Sanberg told the judge that he had to pledge everything he owned to get the loan that was needed for Aspiration to meet its payroll in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Wilson noted that the proceeds of the loan were used to pay off one of Sanberg’s earlier, personal loans, as well as to buy Aspiration stock in his name.

“That to appears to me as a personal benefit,” the judge said.

In November of 2021, Sanberg admitted in his plea deal, he and his co-conspirator Ibrahim AlHusseini — who also has been charged with fraud — repeated their scheme to obtain another $145 million from a different lender affiliated with UBS.

Part of this loan went to pay off the previous loan while another part was used to buy shares in meal-kit delivery business Blue Apron in Sanberg’s name.

In addition, Sanberg fraudulently boosted Aspiration’s revenues by secretly paying businesses and individuals to sign up for the bank’s tree planting services, part of its “enterprise sustainability services,” to reduce their environmental impact.

Sanberg also induced individual investors to invest in Aspiration by overstating the company’s assets by hundreds of millions of dollars. As a result, prosecutors, argue many small investors lost their life savings.

Aspiration filed for bankruptcy court protection in 2025, wiping out the investors’ stake in the bank.

“I’m deeply sorry for the harm I caused and for the terrible judgment I exercised,” Sanberg told the judge. “I wanted Aspiration to succeed so desperately that in my seal I made terrible decisions.”

Sanberg was never an executive at the bank, and he blamed Aspirations’ failure on its management.

His attorney, Marc Mukasey, unsuccessfully pleaded with the judge to spare his client prison time on account of his good work for the community over the years, including by helping to create California’s earned-income tax credit for low income families.

“A prison sentence is too severe for how much good Joe Sanberg has done in the world and still can do,” the lawyer argued.

Aspiration Partners, among other sustainability initiatives, assured its customers that their money wouldn’t be invested in fossil-fuel businesses and allowed customers to round up transaction amounts so that the balance could be used for planting trees.

Reportedly, celebrities including Drake, Leonardo DiCaprio and Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer invested in Aspiration.

Ballmer posted a message on X in April, sharing the victim statement he had filed with the court that details the $60 million he lost through Sanberg’s scheme.

“Five years ago, I invested in Aspiration, a company focused on environmental sustainability, a cause deeply important to me and my family,” Ballmer said. “Aspiration’s founder, Joe Sanberg, engaged in fraud that injured many, and eventually, took the company down. I was duped and feel silly about that. Everyone who believed in Aspiration, including employees, customers and investors, was also duped. Everyone is still tallying the losses.”

Doug Ellin, creator of the hit show 'Entourage,' is disgusted by LA's decline in recent years and says he publicly supports Spencer Pratt in his campaign for LA mayor.

Ellin's Beverly Hills home was burglarized by masked intruders, and he shares that while 5 years ago he didn't have to lock his door, now he has "15 cameras," "2 German Shepherds," and "3 legal guns."

"I know they were animals because they invaded my house. I know I don't care what their excuses are, like a lot of you fcking care. I know invaders of homes should get 20 years…Everyone in my neighborhood has got the same problem: they're fcking all putting cameras and high-end security guards because we're all getting broken into. It's not made up, it's not false, and this city has collapsed in the last 5 years. There is no f*cking denying it unless you have an agenda, and I don't know what that is," Ellin says.

"But, you say, 'Oh, Spencer Pratt has no experience!'…What experience did Karen Bass have?…We want to fix this place because we don't want to be forced out. I'm one of the people who made this city look great! I did it for years. I glorified it. I meet people all the time that moved here because of the show that I f*cking created—and they hate it here now. HATE!"

Ellin's comments appear to be, at least in part, directed at the LA Times, who recently published an article, "L.A. is safer than it's been in decades, but crime is an issue dominating the mayor's race."

For his part, Pratt shared Ellin's video to his Instagram Story last week. Safety has been the central theme of Pratt's mayoral campaign.

Hewlett Packard skyrockets 30% on biggest earnings beat since 2018

-Hewlett Packard Enterprise reported blockbuster second-quarter earnings results.

-Revenue was up 40% from a year ago and the tech company posted its biggest earnings beat since 2018.

-Server revenue was particularly strong, coming in at $5.45 billion, nearly $1 billion ahead of estimates.

Hewlett Packard Enterprise

shares skyrocketed 30% on Monday after the tech company posted blockbuster second-quarter results that blew away estimates.

Here’s how the company did compared to LSEG estimates:

Earnings per share: 79 cents adj. vs. 53 cents expected

Revenue: $10.68 billion vs. $9.79 billion expected

It was the company’s biggest EPS beat since February 2018.

Revenue was up 40% over a year ago.

Overall Cloud & AI revenue came in at $7.71 billion, topping the StreetAccount estimate of $6.87 billion, but it was the company’s server unit that really impressed. Server revenue, which is a sub-division of the cloud and artificial intelligence unit, came in at $5.45 billion, blowing away the $4.66 billion expected by analysts.

The server maker bumped its full-year EPS guidance by a full dollar, projecting fiscal year 2026 EPS of $3.35 to $3.45, up from $2.30 to $2.50. The company said it is now tracking two years ahead of its own long-term financial plan.

CEO Antonio Neri told CNBC’s Kristina Partsinevelos that traditional server bookings are up triple digits, and it is the biggest backlog the company has ever seen.

“Customers continue to invest in modernizing their infrastructure and scaling AI, and our performance shows the strength of our combined networking portfolio,” Neri said in a release announcing the quarterly results.

Neri also told CNBC that industries focused on security are seeing especially rapid acceleration for AI on-premises, instead of in the cloud. HPE is largely focused on providing that service to national labs and enterprises.

Those are “higher margin opportunities” than the neoclouds that competitors like Dell

are focused on, according to chip analyst Patrick Moorhead of Moor Insights and Strategy.

“Their bump up has everything to do with increasing profitability for AI, and the fact that they’re hitting their targets a year and a half in advance,” Moorhead said.

The global memory shortage remains a risk, and Neri said he sees costs remaining elevated into 2027.

Net income came in at $624 million, or 44 cents per share, compared to a net loss a year ago. HPE posted a net loss of $1.05 billion, a loss of 82 cents per share, a year ago.

The stock surge comes following the company’s announcement of a new server rack on Monday at the Computex conference in Taiwan. The new server will be powered by Nvidia

’s new Vera central processing units, which are now in full production.

“This is going to be our new major growth driver,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said during his keynote at Computex on Monday. He said millions of the new CPUs are currently being made, and will be available starting in the fall.

The New York Stock Exchange is one customer that plans to use the new Nvidia chips on HPE’s new server, to help it process more than a trillion messages per day.

Neri said it’s a task well suited to his company’s newest ProLiant server because it’s optimized for agentic AI workloads.

“These workloads require high-performance servers with exceptional CPU performance to enable real-time reasoning across agentic AI and financial services applications,” he said in a press release Monday. “We are delivering a new class of infrastructure to help customers accelerate insights and operate with confidence in the most demanding environments.”

With the new HPE server, “enterprises can put Vera to work, and NYSE shows what purpose-built AI infrastructure can do in the world’s most demanding environments,” Nvidia’s Huang said in a release.

The new 12th generation ProLiant server will be available in the fall.

Nvidia’s new PC chips represent CEO Huang’s bid to win at every layer of AI stack

-Nvidia’s announced entry into the PC chip market sent shares of AMD, Intel and Qualcomm lower on Monday as Wall Street recognized the threat.

-Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s CEO, signaled his intent to “reinvent the PC.”

-Analysts see Nvidia moving beyond the data center and to the so-called edge, as smaller devices become capable of running AI workloads without tapping the cloud.

As important as Nvidia has become to the tech industry, its entire run-up in recent years has been tied to the data center. Now the chipmaker is going after the PC market, and Wall Street is recognizing the threat it poses.

During a keynote address at Taiwan’s Computex conference on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said his company, along with Microsoft, is going to “reinvent the PC.” Nvidia’s plan to build system-on-chips, or SoCs, for PCs sent shares of Advanced Micro Devices, Intel and Qualcomm downward.

It’s the latest sign of Nvidia moving beyond the data center for artificial intelligence and to the so-called edge, where smaller devices like phones or computers run advanced AI models on their installed chips without tapping the cloud.

“Nvidia getting into the space is Jensen recognizing that he wants to own every bit of the AI stack in some shape,” said IDC analyst Tom Mainelli.

While makers of PC central processing units, or CPUs, and mobile phone chips sank on Monday, Nvidia’s stock popped more than 6%. With a market cap of about $5.4 trillion, Nvidia is worth more than any company on the planet, and is almost $1 trillion above its closest U.S. peer.

Nvidia is officially entering the PC market with a chip called RTX Spark, which is a joint effort with Taiwan’s MediaTek. The RTX Spark, which Huang also referred to as the N1X, debuts later this year on a fresh line of Windows PCs from Microsoft, Dell, HP, ASUS, Lenovo and MSI

.

“This reinvention of the computer is as big of a deal as the reinvention of the phone into what we now know as the smartphone,” Huang said, pointing to the fact agentic AI will run across all new computers.

Nvidia has a major balance sheet advantage and has all the momentum in the world. But that doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to crack a market that has historically been controlled by the duopoly of Intel and AMD. Additionally, Qualcomm has introduced new SoCs for Windows laptops in the past two years, and Apple

, which has about 9% of the PC market, started making its own processors in 2020.

Nvidia’s rise has been fueled by selling systems based around the data center graphics processing unit, or GPU, which is better suited for running cutting-edge AI models with unlimited power, cooling and space. As chips become powerful enough to perform AI at the edge, Nvidia is racing to get there.

“All AI computing, regardless where it is, that’s the prize,” said chip analyst Patrick Moorhead. “Jensen is not going to be happy if they just get data center or data center and auto. They want everything on the edge.”

White House Correspondents' Dinner rescheduled for July 24 after shooting disrupted initial event

The White House Correspondents' Association announced Tuesday that it will reschedule its annual press dinner for July 24 after the initial event was disrupted when a gunman attacked the gathering attended by President Trump, senior administration officials and scores of journalists.

Weijia Jiang, who is the president of the association and a CBS News senior White House correspondent, said in an email to members of the White House Correspondents' Association that the rescheduled event would be a "more intimate gathering" and feature "significantly enhanced safety measures and new access procedures."

Mr. Trump said he has accepted an invitation to speak at the dinner next month, calling it a "'HOT' ticket!"

"In a sign of Strength and Fortitude, it was just announced that The White House Correspondents' Dinner, which violently ended rather abruptly on April 25th, will be rescheduled to July 24th," he wrote on Truth Social. "This announcement is a very good thing in that we cannot allow Lunatics to change our way of life, or even its scheduling."

The president said the event will take place at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C, which used to be the Trump International Hotel. Jiang said earlier Tuesday that information about a venue would be forthcoming.

"This dinner will not only be an opportunity to carry out our program. It will be a statement that violence has no place in American life and a free press will not be intimidated into silence," she wrote. "As you have all demonstrated, courage and community can and should rise above."

She said the decision to hold a second dinner was made by the association's board after receiving input from members.

"We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on the 250th anniversary of America and everything we stand for," Jiang wrote.

The dinner initially took place April 25 but was upended when an armed man charged a security checkpoint outside the event. Mr. Trump, Vice President JD Vance and several Cabinet officials in attendance were evacuated, while journalists and media executives took cover under tables.

During a press conference soon after the shooting, the president said the dinner would be rescheduled.

Police identified the suspect in the attack as Cole Allen, a 31-year-old who they said traveled from California to Washington, D.C., by train and was staying at the hotel where the press dinner was to take place. He was charged with attempting to assassinate the president, assaulting a federal law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and two firearms offenses.

Allen pleaded not guilty to all charges. He will remain detained in the lead-up to a trial.

Prosecutors said he was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and knives when he attempted to run through the security checkpoint one story above the ballroom at the Washington Hilton. Law enforcement officials said Allen shot a Secret Service officer, who was hit in his bulletproof vest but was not seriously injured.

Chuck Schumer Says He Stands Behind Nazi-Tattooed and Adulterous Graham Platner

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) dodged five straight questions about Graham Platner, the embattled presumptive Democratic nominee for Senate in Maine, during a press conference on Tuesday.

According to reporters present for the Q&A, Schumer showed remarkable message discipline while dodging the queries.

“Schumer: ‘I met with Graham Platner today, we’re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate.’ 5 questions all on Platner, he gave the same answer each time,” observed NOTUS’s Igor Bobic.

“No matter how he was asked about Platner, Schumer answered: ‘We’re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate,'” added Semafor’s Burgess Everett. “One exception was when @mkraju asked if he still endorses him: ‘I endorsed Graham Platner. We’re going to beat Susan Collins and take back the Senate.'”

Platner’s infidelity to his wife, whom he married in 2023, was reported on by The Wall Street Journal and New York Times over the weekend. He has previously muddled through scandals pertaining to the Nazi-linked Totenkopf tattoo that was emblazoned across his chest for almost two decades, as well as online comments in which disparaged rural Mainers, suggested that victims of sexual assault bear responsibility for what happened to them, and mocked an American soldier who was awarded a Purple Heart for his bravery was shot during a firefight with the Taliban.

U.S., Partner Forces Defend Against Aggressive Iranian Behavior

TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. forces successfully defeated multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drones, and conducted self-defense strikes on Qeshm Island in response to attempted attacks by Iran across the Middle East, June 2.

Iran launched several ballistic missiles toward regional neighbors; however, all failed to hit their intended targets. Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart enroute, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by U.S. and Bahrain air defense forces.

Moments earlier, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces shot down three one-way attack drones launched by Iran toward civilian mariners that were rightfully transiting regional waters. American forces also conducted self-defense strikes on an Iranian military ground control station on Qeshm Island.

No U.S. personnel were harmed. CENTCOM forces remain vigilant and ready to defend against unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire.
