In the ancient sources and in mainstream scholarship, Moloch is not described as an owl; the “Moloch as owl” idea is a much later modern/conspiracy interpretation, not a historical one.

How Moloch is actually depicted

Classical and biblical discussions of Moloch (or “mlk”) link him to child sacrifice and fire rituals in the ancient Near East, but they do not describe him as an owl or bird; many later artistic images instead show a human body with a bull’s head.

Some modern scholars even argue Moloch was not a distinct “god” at all, but a term for a type of offering or a label biblical writers used for abhorrent sacrificial practices, which again has nothing to do with an owl form
