>Khazar preamble

God, strange and incomprehensible in his destinies, merciful in long-suffering, just in punishment, as always from the beginning of the world, on the righteous measure of his justice - some states and peoples he exalts, and others for sins and lawlessness - he humbles, some he enslaves, others - he frees, some he raises, others - he lowers. Likewise, the ancient brave Cossack nation, which was formerly called the Kozarian people, was at first exalted by immortal glory, vast possessions and knightly courage, with which it instilled fear not only in the surrounding nations, but also in the Eastern State itself, therefore the Eastern ruler, seeking to live forever in peace with him, married his son to the daughter of the Kozarian prince.

Later, the same righteous Judge - God, for the increasing untruths and lawlessness, punished that Cossack people with numerous punishments, humiliated, humbled and overthrew them, and finally subdued them with the weapons of the Polish state through the Polish kings Boleslaw the Brave and Stefan Batory.

The Wild Fields is a historical term used in the Polish–Lithuanian documents of the 16th to 18th centuries to refer to the Pontic steppe in the territory of present-day Eastern and Southern Ukraine and Western Russia, north of the Black Sea and Azov Sea. In a broad sense, it is the name of the entire Great Eurasian Steppe, which was also called Great Scythia in ancient times.

The term "Cossack" referred to independent horse-riding tribes by the Tatars (qazaq or "free men") who inhabited the Pontic–Caspian steppe. The Tatar Turkic word kazak, kozak, in which cosac meant 'free man' but also 'conqueror'. The ethnonym Kazakh is from the same Turkic root.

After the death of John III of Sweden, his son Sigismund succeeded to the throne of Sweden. Sigismund at that time was already the elected King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania (since 1587). Sigismund was crowned in Uppsala Cathedral and became the king of Sweden. The Kingdom of Sweden was now in a personal union with Poland-Lithuania.

On July 24, 1599, the Riksdag in Stockholm officially dethroned Sigismund. The new King of Sweden was Charles IX of Sweden, and the Polish–Swedish union was dissolved after barely seven years of existence.

Sigismund's obstinate insistence upon his right to the Swedish crown was the one impediment to the conclusion of a war which the Polish Diet heartily detested and very successfully impeded. Apart from the semi-impotent Polish court, no responsible Pole dreamed of aggrandisement in Sweden.
