TINA PETERS: “IN PRISON, A TOMATO BECOMES PRECIOUS.”

On Going Rogue with Lara Logan, Gold Star mother and former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters reflects on how nearly two years in prison changed her perspective.

Peters discusses her prosecution and imprisonment following the controversy surrounding her efforts to preserve election system data after the 2020 election. In Episode 87, she shares what life behind bars was like, why she says she refused to back down, and the faith that sustained her through it all.

After going nearly two years without a fresh tomato, Peters says a maintenance worker secretly gave her a single cherry tomato. Instead of eating it immediately, she kept it in a cup for three days because it had become so precious.

Her message is simple: don’t take everyday freedoms and blessings for granted—and don’t assume, “It could never happen here.”

Grassley pressed Patel for details on FBI spending, Dems assert

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., revealed Grassley's inquiry in a July 8 letter to Patel, documenting past demands for transparency from Patel and reiterating their concerns about his trips.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, previously asked FBI Director Kash Patel for information on his spending at the agency, as he faces scrutiny over his international travel and use of official perks.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and Jamie Raskin, D-Md., revealed Grassley's inquiry in a July 8 letter to Patel, documenting past demands for transparency from Patel and reiterating their concerns about his trips.

"We write in light of the growing number of credible public reports and non-public sources identifying episodes of your misuse and mismanagement of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) resources," the pair wrote. "This abuse obviously comes at the expense of the American taxpayer and ongoing Bureau operations as it ties up Bureau aircraft, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams, and agents in ways so outrageous that even congressional Republicans can no longer ignore them."

"For example, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley—one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest defenders in Congress—raised serious concerns in a private letter to you on May 5, 2026, requesting information about your spending," they added.

The pair then pointed to a series of Patel's trips, including visits to Hawaii, New Zealand, and Brussels. They then demanded a breakdown of his use of FBI aircraft, proof that he properly reimbursed taxpayers for his use of aircraft for personal reasons, and a litany of other documentation.
