Iranian state television reported explosions in several cities after the U.S. announced that it had launched a second night of strikes on Iran.

The semi-official Fars News Agency, which is associated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, said that explosions were reported in the southern port cities of Chabahar and Konarak, as well as the western Gulf port city of Bushehr.

Bushehr is a key city because it containsIran's only commercial nuclear power plant.It is also located near Kharg Island, apivotal Iranian oil export hub.

CHINA HAS REACHED EARTH'S MINI-MOON

Everyone knows that Earth has a Moon. But did you know that it also has a mini-Moon? This week, a spacecraft from China pulled up alongside it.

On July 6th, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) announced that its Tianwen-2 probe has arrived at asteroid 469219 Kamoʻoalewa, a space rock that loops around our planet about once per year.

Snapped from about 20 km away, this 'first contact' photo reveals a house-sized body tumbling once every 28 minutes. That means it's probably a solid object, not a rubble pile that would easily spin apart.

Kamoʻoalewa is not a true moon. It is a "quasi-satellite," tracing lazy corkscrews around Earth while actually orbiting the sun in near-lockstep with our planet. Discovered by the Pan-STARRS telescope in Hawaii in 2016, its name comes from a Hawaiian chant and means, roughly, "oscillating celestial fragment."

This isn't Earth's only mini-Moon; there are at least 7 others. However, Kamoʻoalewa stands out as the most stable. It is expected to remain a quasi-satellite for centuries. That stability made it an attractive target for China's growing space program.

Kamoʻoalewa looks like a chip off of something bigger. But what?

Some researchers believe it is a piece of the Moon, blasted into space by the impact that dug lunar crater Giordano Bruno. Others argue it wandered in from the asteroid belt. Tianwen-2 could settle the debate by bringing a piece of the mini-Moon home.

In the months ahead, the spacecraft will scout sampling sites using cameras and radar. Then comes the hard part: Grabbing material from a rapidly-spinning space rock. Tianwen-2 will try three different techniques: a touch-and-go tag like NASA's OSIRIS-REx, a hover-and-scoop with a robotic arm, and an "anchor and attach" maneuver that would fasten the probe directly to the rock's surface. Mission planners hope one of them will work.

If all goes well, Tianwen-2 will leave Kamoʻoalewa on April 24, 2027China's National Space Dayand drop its sample capsule into Earth's atmosphere in late November 2027. The spacecraft itself won't stop: it will sling past Earth toward Comet 311P/PANSTARRS.

Asylum seeker sought by police after New York mom found dead

An asylum seeker was on the run last night, after a mum was beaten to death in her own home.

The Middle Eastern suspect is now being hunted over the brutal murder in Co Kerry, Ireland, yesterday of an American-born mum of one, who had lived in Killarney for the past five years. She was named locally as Jamey Carney, the mother to a 13-year-old girl. Gardai (police) are set to launch a murder inquiry as early as Wednesday morning.

The asylum seeker suspect, who was known to Ms. Carney, previously lived in France, and there were fears last night that he may now try to flee Ireland after the killing.

"There is a major search for him," a source told us last night.

We have learned the suspect, who is in his 20s, has been living at an IPAS center in Killarney, but knew Ms. Carney and occasionally stayed at her house in the Muckross Road area of the town, where her body was found yesterday afternoon.

He is believed to have been living in Ireland since the middle of 2024 and was an applicant for international protection.

Ms. Carney, who was a native of New York, was found dead in her bed after her young daughter raised the alarm to a family friend at around 1:20 p.m. yesterday when she became concerned for her welfare.

That friend then contacted a man she knew, who immediately phoned gardai. Officers then rushed to the scene, but Ms. Carney, 43, was then pronounced dead in her own bed. Sources tell us Ms. Carney's body had been hidden by a duvet being placed over her.

We have learned that she suffered serious head injuries after being subjected to a brutal attack - and gardai are set to launch a murder inquiry.

"There is no doubt she was murdered," a source said.

Although her body was found at around 1:30 p.m., sources tell us investigators believe Ms. Carney was beaten to death late on Monday night or into the early hours of yesterday, and lay dead in her bed for up to 13 hours.

"It probably happened overnight," a source confirmed.

We have also learned that the sound of an argument between Ms. Carney and a man could be heard in the house late on Monday night.

Ms. Carney was well known in the area, even though she had only been in Ireland for around five years.

Local non-party councilor Martin Grady had provided her with professional assistance in recent years and said the entire community was devastated by her death.

"I knew her well. Everyone is really shocked, " he said.

He added: "She was a loving mother and a very hard worker. I would encourage people to help gardai in this investigation.

"No matter how big or small the information they have, please just give it to the gardai. This is an absolute tragedy."

And fellow councilor John O'Donoghue, of Kerry Independent Alliance, who knew Ms Carney to see, said: "The air has just gone out of the town. It is cloaked in sadness."

Ms. Carney was also heavily involved in the local Palestine support campaign and was well known and respected in the town.

Gardai appealed for witnesses last night. The force said in a statement, "Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident at a domestic residence this afternoon. A woman, aged in her 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The State Pathologist has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

"A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation. An incident room has been established at Killarney Garda station."

It added: "Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

"Anyone who was in the Muckross Road area of Killarney between the evening of the 6th and the afternoon of the 7th of July 2026 and who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to provide this footage to investigating Gardaí.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064 667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. Investigations are ongoing."

Ms. Carney was originally from New York and just a few days ago took to social media to wish fellow Americans happy Independence Day on July 4.

And she also posted how much she enjoyed attending a concert in Dublin by The Cure last week.

Space Force delivers rapid tech awards for commercial industry

The Space Force awarded seven Other Transaction Authority agreements in May and June 2026 and plans to award an additional six in July for a total of 13 awards and more than $500M to a diverse coalition of commercial providers for advanced technology development in support of the Space Combat Power portfolio.

With the recent establishment of Portfolio Acquisition Executives, PAEs now have increased authority to make technology investments that are directly relevant to their most pressing needs for programs in their operational mission area.

“This kind of award illustrates how a ‘tech pull’ strategy enables Space Force capabilities keep pace with the threat,” said Col. Bryon McClain, acting Portfolio Acquisition Executive for Space Combat Power.

This acquisition effort is designed to rapidly integrate advanced commercial capabilities into the national security space architecture while aggressively bolstering the domestic space industrial base.

These efforts are also in partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Missile Defense Agency and National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and are capitalizing on their expertise and experience in these mission areas.

The selected vendors will immediately begin competing for Task Orders to prototype, test, and field technologies that support joint warfighting operations worldwide.

Saudi Arabia, GCC condemn Iranian attacks on regional states

Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Cooperation Council in separate statements on Thursday condemned Iran’s attacks on Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan and warned against threats to regional security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the attacks violated the sovereignty of “brotherly countries” and called for an immediate halt to all Iranian attacks on countries in the region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons “with or without a deal.”

Im not a structural engineer, but if that building in NY is buckling before the renovations are even complete, it is either way overweight, or the beams are not nearly as strong as estimated. Either way, the only safe thing is to deconstruct the top several floors and reduce the weight. I truly feel concerned for anyone who has to enter that building. Shoring that building up is a temporary measure just to try to stave off catastrophic collapse. It wont be a long term fix. And once the extra floors are removed, every. Single. Beam. Must be visually inspected, because theyre all suspect now.

he US could grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot anti-aircraft missiles, President Donald Trump has said during a meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Türkiye.

He maintained, however, that Washington would not supply the missiles directly.

Ukraine has been heavily dependent on weapons from its Western backers throughout most of its conflict with Russia, which is now in its fifth year.

Zelensky has repeatedly blamed the West for arms shortages and delays in deliveries, while constantly demanding more aid, including Patriot missiles, saying Ukraine does not have enough interceptors to counter Russian airstrikes.

“We’re going to give a license to you to make Patriots. That’s pretty cool. This way, you can’t complain that we’re not giving them enough,” Trump told Zelensky during a meeting in Ankara on Wednesday.

“It’s a defensive weapon, which I like better than an offensive weapon,” Trump added.

While continuing to support Ukraine, Trump has at times attacked Zelensky, calling him “ungrateful,” and angered many in Kiev by suggesting that Ukraine may have to give up territory to Russia.

He has also criticized the previous administration of Joe Biden for aiding Ukraine unconditionally and stressed that European NATO members would pay for US weapons delivered to Kiev through the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) scheme.

The US burned through its arsenal of interceptors during the war with Iran, with an estimate by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) suggesting that the Pentagon used nearly half of its available Patriot missiles by April.

“We have Patriots, but we don’t have that many. We need them for ourselves too,” Trump said in response to a question on whether the US would send the missiles directly. He added that Ukraine could set up production “pretty quickly.”

Bloomberg reported that Ukraine would face challenges in obtaining parts to assemble the sophisticated weapons, considering that the existing supply chain is already strained.

“A Patriot missile takes years to build, meaning Ukrainian production of these missiles won’t materialize on the near-term timelines they need,” Becca Wasser, the publication’s defense lead, said.

Russia has warned that continued deliveries of Western arms make NATO members de facto participants in the conflict and risk triggering an all-out war.

In March, the Russian Defense Ministry published what it said are the addresses of companies involved in producing drone components for Ukraine on European territory. The ministry warned that European leaders are “dragging their countries into a war with Russia.”

Assembly lines for Patriot missiles in Ukraine would likely become high-priority targets for Russia. On Wednesday, the Defense Ministry announced strikes on several military sites across Ukraine, including a Samsung Ukraine facility it said was manufacturing components for FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles.

An interesting report from Bloomberg following a survey conducted by KPMG of Canadian manufacturers.Keep in mind this is a survey of companies within Canada that do traditional manufacturing of products; this is not a survey of companies that assemble foreign goods for export – there is a substantial difference.

As noted within the report,approximately 10% of Canadian GDP comes from Canadian manufacturing. Within that sector there are multiple companies now planning or considering moving out of Canada into the United States.

Ukrainian Drones Strike Russian Oil Sites and Tankers

July 9, 2026

Overnight Ukrainian drone attacks struck oil facilities and tankers in at least three Russian regions and knocked out power in partially occupied Ukraine, local authorities said Thursday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed strikes on oil depots in the Stavropol and Tver regions, a reserve fuel facility in an undisclosed region, an oil pumping station in the republic of Bashkortostan and a marine loading terminal in the Rostov region.

In the central Tver region, acting Governor Vitaly Korolyov said a storage tank at the Tver Oil Depot caught fire “as a result of efforts to repel” an overnight drone attack. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by 7 a.m. local time, he added, noting that there were no injuries.

Stavropol region Governor Vladimir Vladimirov said an unspecified “industrial facility” caught fire in the attack, also adding that there were no injuries. An hour later, he said the flames reached combustible tanks, leading to an evacuation of nearby homes.

Authorities in the southern Rostov region said two oil tankers were damaged in a drone attack in the Sea of Azov, with one of them still on fire as of 7 a.m. Governor Yury Slyusar said there were no injuries and the crew members of both tankers were brought to safety.

Ukraine’s military said it struck 12 Russian tankers, one tugboat and one cargo ship in the Sea of Azov as part of efforts to “reduce the Russian aggressor’s military and economic potential.”

“The targeted vessels were used, among other things, to supply fuel and lubricants to Russian military groups, as well as to transport oil and oil products bypassing international sanctions,” Ukraine’s General Staff said.

In annexed Crimea, Moscow-backed authorities said one person was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said it intercepted 73 Ukrainian drones across Russia and in annexed Crimea between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

In the partially occupied Kherson region of southern Ukraine, Kremlin-installed authorities said air attacks “fully or partially” knocked out power across the Russian-held territory.

In particular the IRGC has claimed that two US bases in Kuwait and two base in Bahrain were attacked - and the Iranian elite force is threatening more to come. AI Price War Breaks Out: Meta Unveils Paid AI Model For First Time, Will Be "Among Most Affordable Options"

Shortly after a leaked Meta memo revealed the company was planning on putting an AI chip into production in September as it looks to double computing capacity to 14Gigawatts, the company also unveiled a version of its most advanced artificial intelligence model, Muse Spark 1.1, that includes a new paid tier for developers, marking the first time Meta has charged businesses for access to its models and providing a new revenue stream. It’ll be "among the most affordable options" on the market, Zuckerberg said in a Bloomberg interview ahead of the release.

“Since this is not an open source model, this is I think the first time that we’re doing a real serious API,” Zuckerberg said, referring to the application programming interface used to access Meta’s AI. “And the pricing is going to be very aggressive and attractive” he added indicating that Meta hopes to capture market share by undercutting its competitors, offering the new model at 25% of the cost of top models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

The new model’s biggest improvement is in its agentic capabilities, the Meta CEO told Bloomberg, and according to benchmarks the model does indeed appear to be in line with the competition.

He hopes to piggyback on the latest craze in AI development this year, which a month ago saw Goldman forecast that agentic AI use will lead to a massive 120 quadrillion monthly tokens being used by 2030.

Agents are the big theme of AI this year, with the label applied to systems that can complete multistep tasks on behalf of a user. Zuckerberg described Muse Spark 1.1 as having “state-of-the-art or very close to it” agentic reasoning and tool use. The model is also greatly improved when it comes to coding and Meta employees are using it internally to build products and features for various apps, he added.

Meta will also introduce a new Meta Model API system, which will be used to collect fees from developers. Its API pricing is roughly 25% of the cost advertised by other top models from OpenAI and Anthropic, according to Bloomberg. Developers will be able to use Meta’s model for free, but only up to a point; they’ll be required to pay for access after reaching a certain token threshold, Zuckerberg said.

Which means that legacy frontier models will now have to worry about domestic cheap alternatives, especially after xAI also released an agentic and coding model yesterday which will have to grab market share, in addition to much cheaper Chinese models.

“The pricing from some of the other labs is very extreme and has very high margins,” Zuckerberg said, underscoring that his strategy is to get Meta’s technology in front of as many people as possible. “We think that there’s a real ability to be able to offer frontier or very high-level intelligence at a much more affordable cost.”

Zuckerberg, 42, is spending aggressively to keep pace with rivals like OpenAI and Alphabet in a race to achieve what he calls superintelligence, or AI that can perform tasks better than humans. Cancer cases to soar worldwide – WHO

The world’s second-leading cause of death is expected to affect more than 90% of people by 2050, either through their own diagnosis or that of a close relative

Millions of people are facing physical, emotional and financial toll of cancer, a disease that claims more than 26 000 lives every day, according to a report released today by the World Health Organization (WHO). With an estimated 20.6 million new cases and close to 10 million deaths annually, cancer remains the second leading cause of death globally, after cardiovascular disease.

Reversing this trend will require a fundamental shift towards a people-centred approach that responds to the health needs and lived experiences of affected people and communities. Without urgent action, annual cancer cases are projected to rise to nearly 35 million by 2050.

The WHO Global Status Report on Cancer 2026, developed jointly with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), provides comprehensive analysis of progress across key areas such as political commitment, cancer prevention – particularly through tobacco control and vaccination programmes – and investment in treatment.

However, the report also reveals persistent and widening inequities in access to prevention, diagnosis, treatment and supportive care, leaving millions of people without the services they need. Its analysis shows that while 87% of women with breast cancer survive at 5 years after their diagnosis in high-income countries, only about 42% do so in low-income countries. Fewer than one in three countries currently include cancer care in their universal health coverage packages.

"Cancer is a deeply personal disease that touches nearly all of us. But whether a person survives cancer should never depend on where they were born or what they earn,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “The inequities documented in this report are not inevitable; they are the consequence of choices, and they can be reversed through stronger and unified action."

Most people will be affected by cancer at some point in their lives, either through their own diagnosis or that of a close family member. Beyond its health impact, cancer remains one of the most financially and socially devastating challenges a household can face. WHO's first-ever survey of people affected by cancer found that at least 45% experience financial hardship, more than half report mental health challenges, and nearly all caregivers report strain including unpaid services and social isolation.

Cancer rates in different regions

The burden of cancer varies markedly across regions. In 2024, Asia accounted for the largest share, with more than half of all cancer cases (50.7%) and deaths (56.5%), reflecting its large population. Europe carried a disproportionately high burden, contributing 21% of global cases and 20% of deaths despite having only about 9% of the world's population. In contrast, many countries in Africa and parts of Asia experience lower incidence but disproportionately high mortality.

Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death globally. Lung, prostate and colorectal cancers are among the most common cancers in men, while breast, lung and colorectal cancers account for a substantial share of the burden among women.

Nearly four in ten cancer cases globally are linked to preventable risk factors, particularly infections such as human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis B and C, and helicobacter pylori, alcohol, tobacco use, high body mass index and insufficient physical activity, highlighting the critical role of prevention.

"While we are seeing reductions in some cancer rates in countries that have implemented prevention policies, progress has been too slow," said Dr Elisabete Weiderpass, Director of WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). "The cancer profile is evolving, increasingly driven by rising rates of obesity, physical inactivity, unhealthy diets, and air pollution. Cancer prevention must remain a political priority."

The task force developed the guide, titled "Small Drones, Big Problems: A First Principles Approach to Countering-UAS," as part of its mission to synchronize counter-unmanned aircraft systems efforts across the War Department and federal interagency partners.

The handbook also establishes a common vocabulary and incorporates the latest information about UAS, including lessons learned from operations in the Middle East and on battlefields in Europe.

It explains how adversaries can use drones, outlines the key components of a layered drone defense and examines the factors that enable successful counter-UAS operations.

"It is crucial to build a common foundation for counter-drone efforts as we work with the entire government and interagency partners to respond to this growing threat," said Army Maj. Joe Amoroso, deputy chief of strategic initiatives for JIATF 401.

"This guide shares vital first principles and direct feedback from warfighters employing [counter]-UAS systems so the entire community has the means, methods and concepts for countering the defining threat of our time."

The handbook emphasizes a layered approach as the most effective defense against illicit drones, with a variety of tools available to counter threats.

It reinforces the importance of capabilities that go beyond technological solutions, including training for warfighters that equips them with the knowledge and permissions they need to respond to drone threats in real time.

Through this publication, JIATF 401 continues its mission to expand counter-UAS capability to warfighters at home and abroad.

"While there is no silver bullet to protect against drones, the threat can be mitigated if we are proactive, work with partners across the government and build a layered defense," said Army Brig. Gen. Matt Ross, task force director.

WASHINGTON— Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin and other top Trump EPA officials overhauled a webpage explaining the pesticide office’s decision not to classify many pesticides as “forever chemicals” — often called PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances.

The timing of the website’s controversial revisions corresponds with the date that pesticide industry lobbying giant CropLife America submitted a paper arguing against further regulating these chemicals. The paper cited EPA’s revised website as support in multiple places and was submitted to the Journal of Toxicology and Regulatory Policy for review on Nov. 26, 2025, the same day the EPA’s website was revised.

“Donald Trump’s PFAS presidency is being orchestrated by former industry lobbyists and Lee Zeldin, the one cabinet member who claims to care about PFAS pollution,” said Nathan Donley, environmental health science director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “To have the EPA administrator and his handlers directly involved in revising a single webpage is absolutely bonkers and exposes how desperately Zeldin and his industry cronies are working to hide the dangers of the ongoing parade of harmful pesticides this administration is approving.”

By the widely accepted scientific definition of what constitutes a “forever chemical,” the Trump administration has approved five new PFAS pesticide in just under two years. But the Trump EPA insists that when measured by its unilateral, less-protective definition outlined on the revised webpage, none of the five newly approved pesticides are forever chemicals.

The original fluorinated pesticides webpage, captured by the Wayback Machine, was created on Nov. 3, 2025 — the same day the Trump administration approved its first PFAS pesticide cyclobutrifluram. This original webpage explained that PFAS “are defined in certain contexts as substances containing two or more fluorinated carbons, and in others as substances containing one or more fluorinated carbons. However, to date, EPA has not adopted a particular definition for its Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) because each substance is evaluated on a chemical-specific basis regardless of classification.”

About three weeks later, on Nov. 26, 2025, the webpage was revised to the current-day version, removing any mention of other PFAS definitions used in the United States and around the world. The website no longer mentions that the pesticide office has not adopted a PFAS definition, but points to the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics (OPPT) definition as the only definition the agency recognizes.

Freedom of Information Act documents obtained by the Center show that Zeldin, Assistant Administrator for EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP) Douglas Troutman, Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator of OCSPP Nancy Beck, and Deputy Assistant Administrator for OCSPP Kyle Kunkler all reviewed and commented on or edited drafts of the revised website sent around by the Office of External Affairs.

Kunkler, a former lobbyist for the American Soybean Association, works under two former lobbyists for the American Chemistry Council, Beck and Lynn Dekleva, who are overseen by a fourth industry lobbyist, Doug Troutman, who was recently confirmed to lead the chemicals office following endorsement by the chemical council.

Mexico Threatens Legal Action Against ICE Over Shooting of Illegal Alien in Texas

Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, announced that her government is looking into taking legal action against agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following the latest shooting incident in Texas.

“We cannot allow the mistreatment of our brothers who are in the United States,” Sheinbaum said during her morning news conference, referring to a case on Tuesday in Houston.

As Breitbart Texas reported, U.S. federal agents from ICE were trying to arrest Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national illegally present in the United States, when, according to an agency statement, the man resisted arrest, allegedly used his vehicle to ram an ICE vehicle, and then attempted to run over a federal agent. In response to the use of a vehicle as a weapon, authorities fired at Salgado, fatally injuring him.

During her speech, Sheinbaum left out the alleged attack on authorities by Salgado.

“His only fault was not having papers, even though he had been hired by an American company,” she said, adding that the U.S. government and its agencies have a history of oppressing migrants. “They don’t have to be in detention centers or for there to be any violence.”

Sheinbaum claimed that her government was looking into legal avenues, going beyond sending diplomatic notices, which she said, while the U.S. government does respond, migrants continue to die.

While she did not provide specifics on the measures her government would take, she claimed they would be judicial in nature. The claims follow a recent series of similar comments made in March, in which Sheinbaum said her government would file complaints with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Despite Sheinbaum’s claims at the time, the move had no effect, as the United States is not a member of the Inter-American Human Rights System, which is made up primarily of Latin American countries and does not include the U.S. or Canada.

The single largest vaccine–dementia study ever conducted (n=13.3 million) finds risk intensifies with more doses, remains elevated for a full decade, and is strongest after flu and pneumococcal shots.

The single largest and most rigorous study ever conducted on vaccines and dementia — spanning 13.3 million UK adults — has uncovered a deeply troubling pattern: those who received common adult vaccines faced a significantly higher risk of both dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

The risk intensifies with more doses, remains elevated for a full decade, and is strongest after influenza and pneumococcal vaccination. With each layer of statistical adjustment, the signal doesn’t fade — it becomes sharper, more consistent, and increasingly difficult to explain away.

And critically, these associations persisted even after adjusting for an unusually wide range of potential confounders, including age, sex, socioeconomic status, BMI, smoking, alcohol-related disorders, hypertension, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, coronary artery disease, stroke/TIA, peripheral vascular disease, diabetes, chronic kidney and liver disease, depression, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, traumatic brain injury, hypothyroidism, osteoporosis, and dozens of medications ranging from NSAIDs and opioids to statins, antiplatelets, immunosuppressants, and antidepressants.

Even after controlling for this extensive list, the elevated risks remained strong and remarkably stable.

Vaccinated Adults Had a 38% Higher Risk of Dementia

The primary adjusted model showed that adults receiving common adult vaccines (influenza, pneumococcal, shingles, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) had a:

38% increased risk of developing dementia (OR 1.38)

This alone dismantles the narrative of “vaccines protect the brain,” but the deeper findings are far worse.

Alzheimer’s Disease Risk Is Even Higher — 50% Increased Risk

Buried in the supplemental tables is a more shocking result: when the authors restricted analyses to Alzheimer’s disease specifically, the association grew even stronger.

This indicates the effect is not random. The association intensifies for the most devastating subtype of dementia.

Tech companies need to come clean about the mounting environmental fallout of their race to build more hubs. 1/2

It is just over 40 years since a US political journalist wrote something about scandals that should have been mandatory reading in school classrooms from then on.

“The scandal isn’t what’s illegal, the scandal is what’s legal,” wrote Michael Kinsley.He was talking about the way rules are written to let powerful insiders, from Wall Street to Washington, get away with unfair but lawful behaviour.

People say Kinsley’s adage is outdated in the age of President Donald Trump.

They are wrong. Look no further than the gathering environmental misery AI barons are foisting on us as they race to build more data centres.

Data hubs already devour more electricity globally than all but 10 countries. About 448 terawatt hours last year if you’re interested. The AI boom means that amount is on track to roughly double within four years.

This would be less of a problem if all the new electricity were green. It won’t be because so many countries still get most of their power from fossil fuels. That includes the US and China, the two largest data centre markets by far.

So the faster these sites multiply, the more planet-heating carbon emissions for the rest of us.

It gets worse. The battle to build data centres is so fierce that the tech giants are not hanging around and waiting for a backlogged grid connection like other companies.

Instead, they are funding their own off-grid power plants.

And because they want features such as super-reliable “five nines”, or 99.999 per cent power availability with only a few minutes of downtime a year,they are often going for systems powered by gas and diesel, which emit air pollutants when burnt.

As of this year, analysts say data centre developers in the US have announced about 100GW of off-grid gas generation. It’s unlikely this will all be built,but Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta alone is planning to fund 10 gas power plants across Louisiana for its hubs.

And here’s where that Kinsley rule of legal scandals kicks in.

Louisiana is one of a growing number of places trying to lure AI investment with business-friendly rules that in some states mean faster power plant approvals and less public scrutiny.

As Reuters reported last month, an Ohio law has allowed some plants to be approved in just 45 days without public hearings.

People are understandably angry. An unprecedented 75 US data centre projects worth around $130bn were blocked or delayed in the first three months of this year, nearly as many as in the whole of 2025, says the Data Center Watch research group.It reckons active opposition group numbers have grown from 396 at the end of 2025 to 833 by the end of March.

The AI giants’ demand for electricity is only part of the problem. Data centres are a concrete target if you’re worrying about job-killing robots.But they also swallow up land and water. By 2030, they could be using enough water to meet the basic needs of all 1.3bn sub-Saharan Africans for a year, UN researchers estimate.

You can see why it is so important to know exactly what these companies are building and where.But transparency is for the little people. You and I might be fined for not telling the government what we earned last year.An AI company can quietly get the nod for a gas power plant across the road from your home without so much as a public hearing. It’s not needed for private off-grid customers, developers say.

All of this is why António Guterres, the UN secretary-general, last month called on all big AI companies to disclose their data centres’ carbon emissions, water and land use.

I wish him luck. Meta, Google and other big tech companies have long published data on company-wide electricity and water use, which has often soared since AI took off in 2022.

But the figures are not always broken down for their data centres and it is hard to find any reporting on the effect of AI workloads.

Last week I asked seven companies if they would heed Guterres’s call.

My queries went unanswered by all except Microsoft and OpenAI, who sent me their latest published environmental material, but declined to discuss Guterres’s request.

OpenAI’s policy on AI infrastructure is still instructive. “We support policies that require transparency around water, electricity, and government agreements,” it says, “with appropriate exceptions to maintain security, commercial sensitivities, trade secrets, and proprietary information.”

The case, I think, is closed.

Burlison Presses CIA and FBI for Records Related to 1996 Brazil UAP Incident

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Eric Burlison (R-MO), a member of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets, sent letters to Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Ratcliffe and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Kash Patel requesting an accounting of U.S. government records and potential investigative equities related to the January 1996 Varginha/Campinas, Brazil unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) incident.

While the letters do not ask the CIA or FBI to validate any particular public claim, recent public statements attributed to former Brazilian Defense Minister Aldo Rebelo concerning the 1996 Varginha case underscore the need for Congress to determine whether U.S. government records, flight records, liaison reporting, contractor records, or material-transfer documentation exist—and whether any continued restriction of those records remains legally justified.

The CIA letter requests that the agency review and produce to Congress records responsive to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Reference No. F-2023-00442, which sought records concerning U.S. government flights, transfers of materials, and coordination with Brazilian authorities during the period of January 14, 1996, through January 28, 1996, including activity in or near Campinas, São Paulo State, Brazil. In its January 10, 2025, response to that private FOIA request, the CIA neither confirmed nor denied the existence of responsive records, citing FOIA exemptions (b)(1) and (b)(3).

The FBI letter requests that the bureau determine whether investigative equities exist, preserve relevant records, conduct appropriate records searches, and provide Congress with a briefing concerning whether it possesses records, legal attaché reporting, domestic investigative equities, or information involving U.S.-government personnel, U.S. persons, federal contractors, U.S.-registered aircraft, or other federal interests connected to the same matter.

Rep. Burlison has previously requested that federally funded research and development centers, including MITRE and MIT Lincoln Laboratory, identify and preserve legacy UAP-related records.

These letters to the CIA and FBI apply the same basic principle to a decades-old international incident that agencies and contractors should not be able to place historically significant records beyond congressional review through classification, contract structures, mis-indexing, or custody transfers.

Southern Poverty Law Center pleads not guilty in federal fraud case

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — The Southern Poverty Law Center, best known for monitoring hate groups, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to federal charges that it defrauded donors by not disclosing that some of the money would be used to pay informants in extremist organizations.

Attorney Abbe Lowell entered the not guilty plea on behalf of the organization to a superseding indictment that adds details about the charges first announced in April.

The Justice Department has accused the SPLC of funding extremist groups while publicly claiming it was working to dismantle them. The SPLC has denied wrongdoing and said the informant program provided critical intelligence about the work of the groups — information it regularly provided to law enforcement agencies.

The SPLC has accused the Justice Department of carrying out a vindictive prosecution as part of a retribution campaign against President Donald Trump’s perceived political enemies.

The superseding indictment alleges that $4.1 million in donations were used to pay informants inside extremist groups. Prosecutors said some of the money was used for recruiting new members and purchasing Ku Klux Klan robes and materials for cross-burning ceremonies.

The indictment said the paid informants included KKK members and white nationalists who initially approached the SPLC for help leaving the extremist organizations but were offered monthly payments and expense reimbursements.

The brief Tuesday arraignment was conducted remotely. The case is scheduled to go to trial in October.

John Deere says farmers and ranchers will have greater access to the diagnostic software and repair tools needed to maintain and repair their equipment under a new agreement that resolves the company's long-running antitrust case with the Federal Trade Commission and five states.

Announced July 8, the settlement formalizes access for farmers and independent repair providers to the same repair resources already available to its authorized dealer network. The agreement closes the FTC lawsuit filed in early 2025 while placing Deere under regulatory oversight for the next 10 years.

The case, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, had accused Deere of using its proprietary software tools and dealer network to monopolize the repair markets for its large tractors and combines.

According to the plaintiffs — including attorneys general in Illinois, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin — Deere's practices have forced farmers to rely exclusively on its authorized dealers for critical repairs, limiting competition and driving up costs. At the center of the lawsuit was Deere's Service ADVISOR, a software tool available only to authorized Deere dealers. The plaintiffs argued that this tool is essential for diagnosing and repairing electronic issues in modern Deere equipment and that a stripped-down version made available to customers and independent repair providers, known as Customer Service ADVISOR, lacked critical functionality.

The settlement "is good news for our customers and for the future of how Deere equipment is supported," said Denver Caldwell, vice president of aftermarket and customer support for John Deere. "Producers and equipment operators demand flexible and world class capabilities enabling the maintenance and repair of their machines; we are and will continue to deliver on that expectation."

Under the settlement, Deere must make available to farmers and independent repair providers software capabilities that allow them to read and reset fault codes, reprogram electronic components, restart equipment following emissions-related shutdowns, and access technical manuals and troubleshooting information. The agreement also requires Deere to make future repair tools available as they are introduced across its dealer network and prohibits retaliation against customers or independent repair shops that use those resources.

I came to the UFO topic a skeptic, and I was wrong. Whatever the ultimate origin, it's a Trojan Horse for very real terrestrial issues. Part 1 starts with whistleblowers, and the retaliation they faced for coming forward.

I came to the UFO topic a skeptic. Like most people, I assumed it was mostly prosaic explanations with a bit of disinformation mixed in, and I didn't expect to find anything real underneath. I was wrong.

Whatever the ultimate origin turns out to be, I've found the UFO topic is a Trojan Horse for very real terrestrial issues. Releasing the UFO files is not enough.

The flaws that allowed this to happen have to be fixed. This is Part 1 of a multipart series on those flaws, starting with whistleblowers and the retaliation they faced for coming forward.

The UFO Conspiracy Isn't a Theory

The UFO topic is often dismissed as a conspiracy theory. I used to call it one myself. But a conspiracy and a conspiracy theory are not the same thing.

Conspiracy. A secret plan or agreement between two or more people to do something unlawful or harmful.

Conspiracy theory. The belief that an event is the work of a secret plot by powerful groups, held even when other explanations are more probable.

After years of investigation, one of the few things in this topic that I can definitively say isn't a theory is the conspiracy itself.

I've seen the retaliation firsthand. An op-ed never finished after a break-in. Cords cut. And account-takeover attempts conveniently timed just before they came forward for email addresses that are not public.

Scientific studies with predetermined conclusions meant to mislead the public and shape policy. Misappropriation of funds. Psychological operations aimed at the American public.

All of it in writing, by the programs that carried it out and the directors who ran them.

Members of both parties on the secrets task force say they cannot get straight answers.

Congressman Eric Burlison has said the Intelligence Community Inspector General found some of Grusch's allegations consistent with his account, that the programs weren't following the law, weren't reporting to Congress, and were overly compartmentalized.

What it couldn't establish was what the programs were actually doing, because it "had a hard time getting these programs to even respond."

Damned If You Do

Whistleblowers should be supported, protected, and even actively encouraged, because history keeps proving they are sometimes the only warning a country gets.

In 1934, Major General Smedley Butler, at his death the most decorated Marine in the country's history, testified under oath to Congress that a group of wealthy businessmen had tried to recruit him to lead a private army of veterans and overthrow President Roosevelt.

He was mocked. The New York Times called the story a "gigantic hoax." Then the House committee that looked into it concluded otherwise, finding "there is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned, and might have been placed in execution when and if the financial backers deemed it expedient." No one was ever prosecuted. A coup against an elected president was planned, the only reason we know is that one general refused to go along, and the country's first instinct was to doubt him and charge no one.

If even he could be waved off, consider the calculation facing an ordinary employee deciding whether to come forward.

In December 2007, former CIA officer John Kiriakou became the first U.S. official to confirm on the record that the agency had waterboarded its prisoners, and to call it torture.

He was right, as the Senate's own investigation would later document in detail. It did not protect him. Four years later the Justice Department charged him, and in 2012 he pleaded guilty to disclosing the identity of a covert officer.

He served nearly two years in federal prison, and he remains the only person connected to the CIA's torture program to spend a day behind bars, punished not for the torture but for talking about it.

Gina Haspel, who had run one of the black sites, was named CIA director in 2018. As Kiriakou wrote that year:

"While I went to prison for disclosing the torture program, Haspel is about to get a promotion despite her connection to it."

In a June 2024 complaint to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a woman using the pseudonym Daniella Sparks alleged that the CIA's own Threat Management Unit and Office of General Counsel:

"repeatedly instructed myself and the other victims to make false statements to law enforcement and informed us that if we associated ourselves with CIA in any manner, we would be guilty of mishandling classified information."

The agency's own lawyers, in other words, allegedly warned assault victims that telling the police the truth would make them criminals.

Well before that complaint was filed, a CIA trainee named Rachel Cuda had already lived it. She did what a victim is supposed to do. She set out to report her assault. The FBI is federal and holds clearances.

The CIA's own security office is even supposed to keep an FBI agent embedded for cases exactly like hers. By her account, the Agency would not give her that contact, and handed her the FBI's open, public phone number instead.

Her lawsuit says she was told she could not reveal her affiliation with the CIA, or her attacker's, to any law enforcement without the Agency's advance permission. She says she was ordered not to discuss the assault with anyone, and warned that doing so "may violate federal law."

When the CIA finally agreed she could give her attacker's name to local police, in December 2022 she took it to the FBI and the Fairfax County police, and three days later, by her account, its Office of General Counsel told her that she had mishandled classified information.

She was not the only one. By the account of a 2025 study in the Yale Law & Policy Review, the Agency accused multiple victims of mishandling classified information for making the very reports it had authorized.

A new law was supposed to end the confusion, and it did not.

Nine months after it passed, at an internal CIA town hall reported by CNN, the agency's chief operating officer, Maura Burns, admitted officers were still unsure how to report a crime without breaking the rules on classified information.

"There's still some hesitation and reservation about that," she said. Overclassification is its own problem, and one I'll cover in Part 2.

"Dead Men Tell No Tales"

For as long as this subject has been around, so have rumors of intimidation, violence, and even murder.

At the July 2023 House Oversight hearing, Representative Tim Burchett asked David Grusch point-blank whether he knew of anyone who had been murdered to protect the secret.

Grusch said he had to be careful how he answered, that he had directed people with that knowledge to the appropriate authorities.

Lue Elizondo is best known publicly for AATIP, but his more consequential work was elsewhere, as Director of the National Programs Special Management Staff inside the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.

In the documentary The Age of Disclosure, he went past rumor. He argued the government has killed U.S. citizens without due process before. "It's not done very often," he said, "but we can."

That phrase, without due process, is worth pausing on, because it is the whole difference between a lawful killing and a murder. The Fifth Amendment says the government cannot deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.

Due process is what the state owes you before it can take those things, a charge, a hearing, a judge, a chance to defend yourself. Take it away and the killing has no legal justification, and a deliberate killing with no justification is typically considered murder.

Nothing about a badge or a clearance changes that. An official who kills a citizen outside the law can be charged with murder like anyone else, even if that reckoning almost never comes.

The fear turns up even in accounts from people who were never public figures.

Kirk McConnell spent thirty-seven years as a congressional staffer on the Senate Armed Services Committee and both intelligence committees, about as sober an institutionalist as this subject attracts.

Asked what convinced him the claims were real, he pointed to no single revelation, only "multiple moments," among them "listening to a particular witness or source who was himself visibly shaking at the prospect of revealing" what he had been exposed to.

"You go home," he said, "and you don't know what to do with yourself."

The government's own skeptic saw the same fear. Sean Kirkpatrick, the first director of AARO, noted his own investigators found a former Air Force officer visibly terrified, recounting how he had been read into a secret program called "Yankee Blue" and warned that if he ever spoke of it he could be "jailed or executed."

Part of why I did this investigation and wrote Lies Above is this. On podcasts, whistleblowers and former officials describing this retaliation can in some cases sound paranoid from the outside, or like they are embellishing to seem more credible.

After meeting some of them firsthand, seeing results of break-ins, surveillance, and hearing other private accounts I no longer doubt that it is happening.

Everyone Agrees. Nothing Changes.

Protecting whistleblowers is a rare thing both parties actually agree on. And it still never gets done. I will not pretend to know the perfect fix, but looking at whistleblower advocacy groups, there seem to be some straightforward and common-sense suggestions.

The Project on Government Oversight, a nonpartisan watchdog that testified before the House task force now handling declassification and UAP, has laid out six steps for Congress:

Give intelligence and military whistleblowers an independent place to report, with independent judges who can actually order relief when someone is punished for coming forward.

Overturn Navy v. Egan, the 1988 decision that lets an agency strip a security clearance, and end a career, with almost no outside review.

Hold the Pentagon to the same burden of proof as every civilian agency.

Let a whistleblower take a retaliation claim to court, in front of a jury.

Close the loophole that strips these protections from intelligence contractors.

Give the watchdog offices meant to police all of this real independence, and leaders who cannot be fired for doing their job.

Here's one I would add myself. The one piece of this system that actually rewards a whistleblower is the False Claims Act, which gives a person who exposes fraud against the government a share of whatever gets recovered, somewhere between 15 and 30 percent.

It works, but only if the money comes back. The government can decline the case, or move to dismiss it over the whistleblower's objection even when the fraud is real, and after the Supreme Court's 2023 ruling in Polansky that power is close to unreviewable.

If the government decides not to prosecute the case, it becomes the whistleblower's to carry, often after they have already lost their job for coming forward. The share actually rises, to between 25 and 30 percent, but the whistleblower now funds and runs the case alone.

The costs involved for legal cases can run into six figures, especially if they have to actually go to court. The cost and stress alone are enough to dissuade most whistleblowers.

Topping it off, the facts you would have to put in a complaint are the same ones whistleblowers are frequently threatened with prosecution for disclosing.

That is the box John Kiriakou was in. He went to prison for blowing the whistle. A decision that ends a fraud case, and someone's one shot at relief, should at least come with a stated reason they are allowed to appeal.

In the one national poll to put the question directly, 86 percent of Americans backed stronger legal protections for federal whistleblowers, including 78 percent of Republicans and 94 percent of Democrats.

Despite this, it still does not get done. One of the six fixes, closing the contractor loophole, passed the Senate unanimously and then stalled in the House.

A Call for Change

The people in this piece are not abstractions to me. I have sat across from some of them, and the reforms that would have protected them are not stalled because anyone is against them. They are stalled because Congress does not feel enough pressure to move.

You can be that pressure. Find your representative and your two senators, and tell them to pass these protections, starting with the contractor fix already through the Senate and waiting in the House.

It takes five minutes, and enough of them is the only thing that has ever moved a bill everyone claims to support.

DOJ threatens WA election officials with prosecution if noncitizens vote

Federal authorities on Tuesday threatened Washington state election officials with criminal prosecution if they fail to prevent noncitizens from voting in this year’s federal elections.

In a seven-page letter, Assistant U.S. Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon warned the election officers that they could be held criminally liable if they knowingly retain noncitizens on the state’s voter rolls or facilitate noncitizens in receiving and casting ballots.

Dhillon sent similar letters to several states. She’s giving Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs and election officials elsewhere five days to respond with how each is complying with a slew of long-standing federal laws that prohibit noncitizens from voting in elections.

Hobbs said his office is reviewing Dhillon’s request to determine its legality but added that the Department of Justice is “accelerating down a slippery slope of threatening personal legal action against election administrators.”

“Attempts to revive disproven claims of rigged elections will not deter election professionals from doing their job of overseeing accessible, accurate, auditable elections,” the Democratic secretary of state said in a statement late Tuesday.

On June 1 2026, Federal Premium Ammunition announced that the U.S. Army had officially licensed the patent for Peak Alloy ammunition. Federal Premium Ammunition developed the cartridge due to solicitations by the U.S. military; it and premiered it in February 2025 in a cartridge known as 7mm Backcountry.

Traditional ammunition is made from brass cases, which tap out at around 60,000 PSI – any more than that and a brass case would rupture. However, Peak Alloy provides a much stronger, safe case design that allows pressures of more than 80,000 PSI.

High-pressure rounds are designed to give our soldiers better range and a flatter shooting profile, overall, in order to make them more lethal on the individual level.

The military is investing heavily in high-pressure ammunition. For example, the replacement of the M4A1 with the M7 and M8 rifles was based on using a high-pressure 6.8mm cartridge.

To make the M7 cartridge work, the military used a hybrid case type that combined a stainless steel base with a brass case using an aluminum locking washer. But this case type is complicated, expensive, and more difficult to produce than traditional cartridges. It also has more failure points, and it is unsure how much water resistance it offers.

In contrast, Federal’s Peak Alloy doesn’t uses a traditional one-piece case made from a steel alloy.

Steel cases have been used for decades, particularly in Eastern Europe, as they were traditionally cheaper to produce. However, Peak Alloy’s design is different than that of older steel ammunition.

The alloy portion of the cartridge gives it some of the same benefits as brass, namely, it can be easily reloaded, and both expands and contracts inside the chamber creating a seal for better pressure and allowing it to be extracted with ease.

Peak Alloy uses a fast-burning gunpowder to generate the additional pressure. By weight alone, you can improve the velocity of a projectile with less gunpowder as long as it burns faster.

BENEFITS OF HIGHER-PRESSURE CARTRIDGES

The higher pressure curve allows projectiles fired from Peak Alloy to reach higher velocities. When we combine higher velocity with modern projectiles, we increase the projectile’s effective range, its terminal effects on target, and penetration against cover.

There are a number of benefits to using Peak Alloy and high-pressure cartridges. First, they are compatible with shorter barrels and suppressor-configured rifles.

With a traditional 5.56mm round, the gunpowder requires about 20 inches of barrel to reach peak potential because the gunpowder is still burning throughout the barrel’s length.

But if you use a fast-burning gunpowder, you don’t need as long a barrel to reach higher velocities. This allows you to achieve better performance with shorter barrels.

Peak Alloy could potentially be used for the M7 and M8 rifles, creating a simpler projectile case.

The Army’s procurement of Peak Alloy covers rounds up to .50 caliber, allowing the branch to use the technology for any small arm in its arsenal. With SOCOM seeking an M855A1+ cartridge for the HICAR program, it wouldn’t be surprising if Peak Alloy becomes part of that equation.

This technology could also be applied to rifles and machine guns, specifically in the gap between 5.56mm and .50 BMG.

Peak Alloy might be the missing link that makes these high-pressure rounds work – and work with greater simplicity. It’s an exciting new bit of technology, and I’m curious to see how the Army will apply it and what we will see in the near future.

China has built more dams than any other country and more large dams than the rest of the world combined. This month, it officially acknowledged construction of the biggest dam ever conceived in human history — although satellite imagery suggests the groundwork began much earlier, following the megaproject’s approval by China’s rubber-stamp parliament in 2021.

Located on the Brahmaputra River just before it curves into India, this super-dam is being developed with little transparency in a seismically active and ecologically fragile region near the heavily militarized Tibetan-Indian frontier. Once completed, the massive structure will dwarf the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze, and is expected to generate nearly three times as much hydropower by harnessing the Brahmaputra’s sharp descent from Himalayan peaks into the world’s deepest canyon.

Yet far beyond electricity production, the project portends a looming geopolitical and environmental crisis. It stands to disrupt the hydrological balance for millions of people downstream, destabilize a delicate Himalayan ecosystem and provide Beijing with a potent new lever over India, its strategic rival.

China appears to have learned nothing from its own cautionary tale: the Three Gorges Dam, currently the world’s largest. Once hailed as an engineering marvel, the dam has become an environmental nightmare — eroding riverbanks and deltas, degrading water quality, triggering frequent landslides and causing lasting ecological damage.

The new super-dam’s site is on a geologic fault line — a recipe for catastrophe. Scientists warn that large dam reservoirs can trigger seismic activity, a phenomenon known as reservoir-triggered seismicity. In this quake-prone region, the tectonic stresses induced by such a megastructure could lead to devastating earthquakes.

The Brahmaputra — the world’s highest-altitude major river — draws its perennial flow from Himalayan springs, glacial melt, upland wetlands and tributaries. The vast majority of these sources lie within Chinese-occupied Tibet, where the river is known as the Yarlung Zangbo. In contrast, India contributes modestly to the river’s year-round volume, though it plays a greater role in its monsoonal surge. After flowing through India’s Arunachal Pradesh and Assam states, the river enters Bangladesh before draining into the Bay of Bengal.

But a river’s flow is not just about water — it also carries nutrient-rich sediment, serving as the ecological lifeblood of entire regions.

By building a gigantic dam just before the river exits Chinese-controlled territory, Beijing gains the power to manipulate cross-border flows, including during the critical dry season. It can withhold or release water at will, trap sediment and potentially weaponize water in future disputes.

By capturing silt-laden waters before they reach India and Bangladesh, the dam will starve downstream floodplains of nourishing sediment that replenishes farmland and sustains fisheries. Bangladesh’s delta, already threatened by rising seas, will shrink further and become more prone to saltwater intrusion and catastrophic flooding.

Equally alarming is the likely disruption of the Brahmaputra’s natural flooding cycle. Seasonal floods during the summer monsoon serve vital ecological functions. Disrupting this rhythm could spell disaster for northeast India’s agrarian economy and for millions in Bangladesh who depend on the river’s pulse.

Moreover, by trapping sediment and altering flows, the $168 billion dam could erode riverbeds, degrade habitats and accelerate coastal loss. China would gain not only hydropower but also hydraulic power — the ability to influence political and ecological outcomes in neighboring nations.

China’s dam-building frenzy on rivers originating on the Tibetan Plateau has long alarmed downstream nations, from Vietnam and Thailand to Nepal. What makes this project uniquely concerning is its sheer scale, high-risk location and the strategic signal it sends.

For India, the dam represents more than just a hydrological threat. It is a potential geopolitical stranglehold. If tensions escalate again — as they did following China’s stealth incursions into Indian territory in 2020 — Beijing could exploit its upstream control to exert pressure. This is especially ominous given China’s claim to India’s sprawling Arunachal Pradesh state, which it labels “South Tibet.”

Hydropower generation is only one aspect of the dam’s utility. Its greater value lies in strategic dominance.

A frustrated NASA insider is betting that the real UFO story lies not in old pilot reports, but in the silent reels of space footage still locked away.

Alien mystery is back on the agenda in Washington, after former NASA Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) study member Mike Gold claimed that US officials are now actively working on declassifying previously secret UFO material and urged investigators to scour NASA's vast space archives for unreleased footage.

In an interview with journalist Ross Coulthart, Gold said the next phase of disclosure would reach well beyond the three public 'tranches' of records already released under President Donald Trump.

'There's not a fourth tranche coming. There's an entire process… working on declassification,' Gold said, suggesting that the conversation inside government has shifted from whether to release records to how far and how fast officials can go.

His choice of words matters; 'process' is bureaucratic code for something grinding forward but resisting firm deadlines.

Gold did not promise a dramatic alien reveal on a particular date, or new crash‑retrieval documents ready to drop.

Instead, he painted a slower, more procedural picture in which the National Archives and other agencies are trying to identify what can be safely downgraded without colliding with national security rules or exposing intelligence methods.

In his reading, it is bureaucracy, not a grand, monolithic cover‑up, that is now doing much of the delaying.

A Christian broadcaster who says he recently received a UFO briefing from government contractors warns the UAP disclosure movement could be used to deceive the masses.

Pastor Joseph Zupetz tells “Katie Pavlich Tonight” that he and some of his colleagues at a Nashville gathering met with knowledgeable sources who outlined plans to inform the public about extraterrestrial life.

At one point, he said, the contractors showed the pastors images of purported aliens.

“We didn’t fall apart like a $2 suitcase or start shaking,” he recalled. “It did indeed get my attention. You know, we’re in a world where you can falsify just about anything through digital augmentation or whatever.”

He said the presenters warned the pastors that the coming disclosure about nonhuman intelligence could be twisted.

According to UK filmmaker Mark Christopher Lee, President Trump has a UFO disclosure speech written and ready, one that would confirm the government holds recovered craft and beings that are not from Earth.

Lee has been predicting a Trump disclosure moment since the start of this year, and he notes that back in January he said the Pentagon would begin releasing UFO files in the spring, which did happen.

He now describes the alleged draft as a form of soft disclosure that would reference past incidents such as the Navy’s Tic Tac encounter and the East Coast sightings, explain the years of secrecy, announce new declassification steps and a task force, and frame the subject not as a threat but as a chance to unite humanity.

Lee named aerospace billionaire Robert Bigelow, a major donor to Trump’s campaign, as one of his sources, and said Bigelow has taken credit for convincing the president to prepare the speech.

That detail lines up with reporting from Rolling Stone, referenced in yesterday’s update, describing a December 2025 meeting between Bigelow and cabinet member Robert F. Kennedy Jr. that reportedly turned to UFOs.

About two months later, Trump signed his directive ordering the file releases. Lee has been careful to add a warning, admitting he was, in his own words, misled by a Washington insider source who fed him earlier dates and then stopped taking his calls.

He has said he is not one hundred percent certain of the current claim.

The pattern concerns some observers. According to Eli Karetny, a political scientist and acting director of the Ralph Bunche Institute at the City University of New York, the June 9th briefing with whistleblower David Grusch had what he called a staged quality, unfolding in careful stages rather than all at once.

France offered a something different. On June 29, members of parliament Pierre Henriette and Arnaud Saint-Martin hosted a four hour session on UAP inside the National Assembly, the first of its kind in French parliamentary history, drawing roughly 250 people.

Speakers from the European Space Agency and a French commission urged pilots to report sightings, and France noted its nearly fifty year old public office for studying reports, known as GEIPAN, housed within its space agency.

During a question period, naval historian Alexandre Sheldon-Duplaix asked why the panel had not mentioned American developments that same week, pointing to Representative Anna Paulina Luna’s request to protect whistleblowers and to Grusch’s testimony describing beings as walking humanlike forms or plasma-like entities. According to the account, the question was met with silence.

The public readiness question was also tested. According to a new national poll of more than 3000 adults released this month, more than 8in10 Americans said disclosure would be positive or have no measurable impact, while only about 6% expected a breakdown of civil society.

The same study reported that active duty military members and veterans describe witnessing these phenomena at far higher rates than civilians. Karetny’s concern is that framing the subject only as a threat hands power to whoever promises protection from it.

The Czech Republic remains skeptical about NATO’s strategy of continued military support for Ukraine, to which it does not contribute financially, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said as he left the bloc leaders’ summit in Ankara, Türkiye on Wednesday.

Babis’ party won last year’s election on a nationalist platform that included reversing the Ukraine aid policy championed by his predecessor, Petr Fiala, and urging a diplomatic resolution of the conflict with Russia instead.

The declaration approved by NATO leaders in Ankara this week highlighted apledge of €70 billion ($80 billion) in military equipment, assistance and training for Ukraine in 2026, with a similar amount expected the following year. The money is not a new package, but rather past commitments, including the European Union’s “loan” approved in April.The Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia opted out of the mechanism.

We are not at war. Ukraine is at war,” Babis told reporters on Wednesday, when asked whether NATO’s increasing spending would pressure Moscow to negotiate, adding, “I don’t know, time will tell.” The prime minister said discussions during the summit focused on weapons rather than peace.

Babis said the Czech Republic intended to reach the required NATO level of 2% of GDP level for military spending next year, but also needed money for healthcare, raising police salaries, and other domestic priorities.

Kremlin calls US backing of Ukrainian escalation delusional

Ukraine is seeking additional Western funding to ramp up long-range kamikaze drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, tankers and other targets. During a US-Ukrainian meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed the escalation “creates the space to negotiate the end of this war,” with President Donald Trump endorsing his reasoning.

Czech coalition strained by aid payment

The aid issue caused tensions in the Czech ruling coalition just before the summit, after Foreign Minister Petr Macinka announced the transfer of an unspecifiedsum to PURL, a NATO fund through which European members pay for American weapons intended for Kiev.

Parliament speaker Tomio Okamura, a vocal critic of Ukraine, blasted the move for going against the coalition agreement, but Babis sided with Macinka, saying the money had been allocated by the Fiala government and could not be returned to the budget.The prime minister said the one-off small contribution to purchase interceptor drones was preferable to a direct transfer to the Ukrainian government.

ThankQ, sorry any ambiguity but this was implied in the first sentence: I watched a good portion of the NATO summit, and other related videos regarding Israel and Iran, and want to put some things into perspective, for what it is worth. What is more important, is what I wrote, and would love to hear if people think these are actual good solutions to end all this foreign chaos that is taking so much of the President's time and attention, when we really should be focusing solely on our domestic enemies which are causing all the damage to our Country and many of our citizens.
