GOP Rep. Cory Mills Under Federal Investigation: Report

The Justice Department is currently investigating GOP Rep. Cory Mills, according to ABC News, The Washington Examiner, and MS NOW.

The federal probe is in part over Mills’ finances, ABC News said, citing sources.

“The Department of Justice is conducting a criminal investigation into Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., according to two sources familiar with the matter, adding to the mounting legal and ethical scrutiny facing the embattled congressman,” MS NOW reported.

“The sources didn’t disclose the focus of the DOJ investigation. But a third source told MS NOW at least one person was contacted by the FBI last year about Mills’ finances, allegations of misconduct and individuals in his orbit,” MS NOW

Embattled Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) is under an investigation by the Department of Justice, a source familiar confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

It is unclear why the DOJ is investigating Mills, and the agency did not respond to a request for comment. Mills has been accused of domestic violence, stolen valor, and financial misconduct. Mills has denied any wrongdoing.

The FBI reportedly reached out to at least one person about Mills’s finances last year, according to MS NOW. The Washington Examiner has reached out to Mills for comment.

The nature of the investigation is unclear but Cory Mills is facing allegations of domestic violence, stolen valor and financial crimes.

Earlier this year, GOP Rep. Nancy Mace filed to expel Cory Mills.

Nancy Mace accused Mills of beating women and lying about his military service.

MIlls denied the allegations and lashed out at Nancy Mace.

“This is a woman who continues to try and go after and attack people because she thinks it’s good for clickbait on social media, and for the simple concept of sensationalizing something that she can fundraise off of,” Mills said in April.

House passes stopgap bill to fund the government into early December

The House voted 220-205 to pass a stopgap funding bill that would fund the government until Dec. 4.

The continuing resolution would buy lawmakers more time to go through the appropriations process. It would also allow Congress to avert a government shutdown before the midterm elections. The next government funding deadline is Sept. 30.

The continuing resolution is now headed to the Senate, where Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said he will hold a vote on it but cautioned it doesn’t have all the provisions the White House requested. The bill is highly unlikely to get the 60 votes needed for passage in the Senate.

Thune left the door open to using budget reconciliation, which requires only a simple majority of 51 votes, to fund the government if the House-passed continuing resolution, or CR, can’t get the necessary bipartisan support for passage.

“We’re going to vote on it this work period, and then we’ll see. I mean, if they send us a budget resolution, that is a potential legislative vehicle in the event that, you know, the wheels come off on a CR. But the CR is, in my view, the best way to do this,” he said today.

Mike Johnson Breaks With Trump On Iran War: ‘We’ve Got To Wrap It Up’

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was asked during a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday at what point he will move to use congressional power to check President Donald Trump’s war in Iran. Johnson pointedly ended his reply bysaying “we’ve got to wrap it up” in Iran, which many pundits and political insiders have warned is an additional threat to the GOP keeping its majorities in Congress.

Johnson’s answer appeared to be at odds with Trump, who vowed earlier in the day to continue bombing Iran indefinitely until they come to the negotiating table in good faith.

“You repeatedly said that you trust the administration to handle the war with Iran. We’re now five months in, and the U.S. troop toll has surpassed that of the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Given that, at what point are you willing to put an AUMF on the floor, or vote for a War Powers Act resolution to try and remove it?” asked an off-camera reporter.

“The administration is working very hard — the commander-in-chief and the whole Department of War — they’re working very hard to bring this to a resolution. There’s a lot of discussion about how that will be done. We’re all closely watching those developments, of course. I don’t think an AUMF is in order right now. I think we need to bring it to a resolution,” Johnson replied, adding:

Look, I think it’s important — in my personal view — for all of our international partners to have a role in this. I mean, we’ve got all of our allied nations, NATO, we’ve had the Arab countries over there, the Gulf states that are in closest proximity to Iran. Iran has now fired on all of its neighbors, and they’re turning everybody in the world into an enemy. So I think this is an important moment in history for the entire world community to decide how they want to handle this. It shouldn’t just be America’s obligation — my view is that everybody needs to play a role. So we’ll see how that develops. I think we have to allow the space to do that.

And I know this administration is working around the clock to resolve that in a way so they don’t suffer any more troop losses. This is a great tragedy — it shouldn’t happen. But it is a very important objective, one that I believe we’ve achieved, to ensure that the largest state sponsor of terrorism does not have a nuclear weapon. That would be a disaster for everybody, and everybody around the world understands that.

Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn is threatening to vote down theambassadorial nominations of two top Trump allies on Wednesday unless the Trump administration releases money aimed at fighting the spread of AIDS in Africa.(guaranteed he and others get a huge kickback for the drug companies involved and NGO’s dispensing it)

Cornyn told Semafor that he would not support committee action on Kari Lake’s nomination to be ambassador to Jamaica or Doug Mastriano’s bid to become ambassador to Slovakiawithout confirmation that the administration will distribute money from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, commonly known as PEPFAR.

The Foreign Relations Committee is set to take up Lake’s nomination on Wednesday, and Mastriano is likely to be added to the slate.

“The only way it seems like you can get the administration’s attention on some of these funding issues is by using the leverage to withhold votes on nominees,” Cornyn said in an interview. “We are going to use the committee vote tomorrow as a way to … get the money distributed the way Congress appropriated it.”

It’s a threat with teeth. Cornyn could singlehandedly stall both nominees in the committee, which has 12 Republican and 10 Democratic members, with all of the latter planning to vote no. With full attendance, that means a tie vote on the nominees, which would fail — though Cornyn said he thinks “I will not be alone” in his stand.

The Texan, who lost his reelection bid earlier this year after President Donald Trump backed his primary challenger, said he would also vote against Lake and Mastriano on the Senate floor if the nominees manage to get through committee and his concerns haven’t been addressed.

Lake and Mastriano are both stalwart Trump allies who lost gubernatorial races in 2022; Lake also lost a Senate race in 2024. Sen. John Curtis, R-Utah, told Semafor on Tuesday that he’s “taking a hard look” at the two nominations.

Cornyn has already shown a keen awareness of his leverage; he threatened to vote against a GOP spending bill earlier this year unless the Trump administration released border security money for Texas. The administration moved to soothe his concerns quickly.

He is also undecided on attorney general nominee Todd Blanche, who’s expected to get a Judiciary Committee vote before senators break for the month of August.

Cornyn said he conveyed his intentions to vote against Lake and Mastriano if PEPFAR money isn’t released to Senate Foreign Relations Chair Jim Risch, R-Idaho. The administration did not immediately comment.

Thune to put stopgap funding bill on Senate floor before August break

Senate Republicans are negotiating a continuing resolution with Democrats and the White House.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Tuesday thathe will put a short-term stopgap bill to fund the government on the floor before the August recess– andwarned that Republicans could pursue a party-line spending bill if they can’t reach a deal with Democrats.

Thune, during a weekly press conference, said that Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins (R-Maine) was talking with Senate Democrats to try tostrike a bipartisan deal on a bill to fund the government until after the November election.

“That is something I intend to bring to the floor for a vote before the August break,” Thune said.

In addition to negotiating with Democrats, Senate Republicans are talking to the White House about spending anomalies the administration wants attached to a funding patch measure. Thune said a Senate stopgap was the “more likely vehicle” because theHouse’s GOP-crafted stopgap does not include those special spending requests from the White House.

Thune also indicated he could use a House budget resolution to fund the government using the party-line reconciliation process if they can’t reach a deal with Democrats on a stopgap spending bill.

“It’s a possibility that if necessary we … could use it to fund government. I hope that’s not necessary,” Thune said.

Some conservatives, including Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.),have said that they should use reconciliation to fund the government ahead of the Sept. 30 deadline if a bipartisan spending deal can’t be reached.

250,000 noncitizens found on voter rolls in four states as Jocelyn Benson refuses to share data. 1/3

As Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson steadfastly refuses to work with President Donald Trump’s administration to address vulnerabilities in Michigan’s election system, federal officials are uncovering hundreds of thousands of ineligible voters in other states.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin told the media on Friday his agency identified 250,000 noncitizens on the voter rolls in California, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Nevada using publicly available data.

About two dozen “proactive states” have also identified 28,000 noncitizens on voter rolls, as well as 400,000 registrations for deceased individuals, Mullins said as he urged states to leverage DHS’ SAVE program to vet voter registrations.

If states refuse to remove ineligible voters, Mullins noted state officials could face fines, penalties or prison time, according to The Associated Press.

“We absolutely can build confidence in the American people, but the states have to do their part,” Mullin said.

The secretary argued the Trump administration isn’t focused on rehashing prior election results, but are highlighting issues to address vulnerabilities and build trust in the system before the midterms, according to The Center Square.

“This is just exposing what took place, and to make sure it never happens again. And there’s some really easy steps that can be taken to secure our elections. And it shouldn’t be a partisan issue,” Mullin said. “This should be something that every American, regardless if you’re a Republican, you’re a Democrat, you’re an independent, you’re a Libertarian, regardless if you live in a blue state or you live in a red state, everybody should know that their vote counts.”

Officials in states identified by Mullin are reviewing the findings, but nonetheless insisted their election systems are secure.

Mullin pointed to evidence Iran “hacked” state voter files and “attempted to compromise” the system used by members of the military to vote, and said Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is working with his department to “safeguard those systems.”

Other examples of “shocking vulnerabilities” were highlighted by the 47th POTUS in a primetime address the night prior, including China’s “illicit acquisition” of 220 million voter files, and the Biden administration’s alleged cover-up of a Michigan State Police investigation into thousands of fraudulent voter registrations in Muskegon.

“In 2020, Michigan State Police raided a Democrat Get Out the Vote organization corrupt group in Muskegon, and we’re so concerned by what they found. They were just so concerned they couldn’t believe it, actually, that they contacted the FBI in Detroit,” Trump said.

“The documents state that some canvassers admitted to FBI agents that they signed voter registration forms in other people’s names, submitted fraudulent registration for people who did not exist, and received gift cards tied to their number of applications that they produced,” Trump said. “In other words, it was pay, play, and cheat.”

“The FBI agents working on the case believe that crimes were committed, yet the Biden Department of Justice slow walked the investigation and killed it,” Trump said Thursday. “Tonight, I’m asking the FBI director to ensure that the matter is fully investigated, and to work with the Department of Justice to prosecute those responsible for any crimes.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson rebuked Trump’s concerns, with Benson labeling them in a statement as “baseless conspiracy theories” and insisting Michigan elections “are secure and safe and the results are an accurate reflection of the will of the people.”

Benson is overseeing her own election for governor as the Democratic frontrunner.

She has resisted all efforts to address vulnerabilities in the election system, including requests to review Michigan voter registrations, attempts to remove ineligible voter registrations, legislative review of her guidance to election officials, and attempts to require proof of citizenship to register and photo ID to vote, despite nearly two dozen documented instances of illegal votes cast in Michigan in recent elections.

When Benson took office, the Great Lakes State had approximately 7.5 million registered voters, which was about 300,000 fewer than the voting-age population of roughly 7.8 million. Over the next several years, the state added 700,000 registrations, many automatically through driver’s license renewals, bringing the total to 8.2 million registered voters for a voting-age population of about 7.9 million by 2022, the same year Democrats regained full control of state government for the first time in four decades.

Benson testified before Congress in September 2024 that “there is no evidence that noncitizens are voting,” but was forced to admit otherwise a month later when Chinese national Haoxiang Gao, a 19-year-old University of Michigan student, cast an illegal ballot that was counted in the 2024 election because there’s no means to retrieve it.

Then in April 2025, Benson admitted 15 others likely cast illegal votes during the 2024 General Election based on a cross reference between the state’s voter rolls and driver’s license database, bringing the total to at least 16.

In the first quarter of 2026, Macomb County Clerk Anthony Folini, a Republican candidate for Secretary of State, flagged 198 non-US citizens who were pulled for jury duty from Michigan’s driver’s license database.

Eleven of those individuals were also registered voters at some point, including seven with “active” status, though there’s no evidence any have cast illegal ballots, according to Forlini.

That’s on top of 640 self-reported noncitizens who were summoned for jury duty last year, which included 18 who were registered to vote. Of those 18, four were removed from the state’s voter database, including one with a voting record, one was placed in “challenged” status, three were referred for removal, and 10 previously had their registrations canceled, including two with a voting record.

In May, media reports detailed six criminal illegal immigrants on DHS’ “Worst of the Worst” database arrested in Michigan with active voter registrations, including two that voted in multiple elections.

Benson never acknowledged the criminal illegal immigrant voters, but their registrations were quietly removed following the media reports.

Other concerns have come from fellow Democrats, with former Flint Mayor Karen Weaver describing in May how local officials were rebuffed by Benson when they requested help with a variety of issues involving absentee ballots.

“We had our political action chair of the Flint branch NAACP wrote a letter because we had these concerns, and didn’t get anything. This was to the Secretary of State … Jocelyn Benson,” Weaver told The Midwesterner.

Aonie Gilcreast, the Political Action Chair of the Flint NAACP, confirmed to The Midwesternerthe letter detailed issues with absentee ballots and others, citing preliminary evidence someone may have been “padding the ballot box with absentee” ballots.

“The response we got back is they didn’t want to look into that … because it was an issue Republicans were trying to push – there were issues with absentee ballots,” Gilcreast revealed.

“What we were told is we were pushing a Republican agenda,” Weaver confirmed. “And I said, ‘A Republican agenda? … Don’t we all want to trust the election process?’”

If or when Benson will remove any remaining active noncitizen voter registrations is anyone’s guess, as she has repeatedly refused to answer questions regarding the issue.

Despite the obvious problem, Benson could not provide data on the number of noncitizen voters she’s removed from the state’s voter rolls when confronted by The Detroit News reporter Beth LeBlanc in January.

It was the same deal in February, when The Midwesterner confronted Benson following Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s final State of the State address.

That same month, Benson pushed through a dozen election rule changes critics contend make it easier to cheat and harder to challenge illegal votes. Benson has insisted for months Republican efforts to address election security are simply a plot to “dismantle people’s faith” in the system.

“They’re using the power of the federal government to intimidate and threaten states into changing our safe and secure election procedures,” Benson alleged when she confirmed Forlini’s findings in January. “Why? To meet the president’s personal and political agenda, and to silence the voices of millions of eligible American citizens.”

Jake Tapper on Discovery of Thousands of Non-Citizen Voters in New Jersey: ‘This is Not Good for Democrats’ (VIDEO)

As the Gateway Pundit reported earlier today, thousands of non-citizen voters were discovered in New Jersey, allegedly due to a software error.

This is one of those problems that Democrats assure us never happens. It’s one of the main reasons that conservatives want congress to pass the SAVE America Act.

Over on CNN, JakeTapper responded to the news today by saying that this is ‘not good news for Democrats.’

How about the country, Jake?

This is a window into the minds of people in our media. Note that this is Jake Tapper’s first thought. His first concern is what is or is not good news for Democrats, because that’s who Jake cares about most.
