We regret to state that escalation in the Persian Gulf is gaining momentum. The conflicting sides continue to exchange strikes, which are doing large-scale damage to the civilian infrastructure of Iran and Arab countries. The risk of shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea has increased. This situation poses additional difficulties for regional mediation efforts aimed at relaunching the process of negotiations on the basis of the June 17 Islamabad Memorandum between the United States and Iran.

In this connection, we urge all sides in the conflict to demonstrate a responsible approach and restraint and to refrain from any actions that could expand the geography of military confrontation and lead to the further deterioration of the military-political situation in the Middle East. A negative scenario is fraught with critical consequences for international energy and food security.

We are firmly committed to the settlement of differences in that strategic part of the world through political and diplomatic means based on respect for the interests of all regional states. Russia is ready to provide the necessary assistance towards this end.

After President Trump earlier this morning in a Truth Social post asserted that the already signed US-Saudi nuclear deal would actually be conditioned on Riyadh joining the Abraham Accords, journalist Laura Rozen quotes an unnamed Saudi source who says Trump’s demand is too late.

"It was signed. So nothing to renegotiate," the Saudi source says. "Tweets don’t overturn signed agreements."

Is the 'civilian nuclear energy' deal already dead on arrival, even as it's expected to be presented to Congress?

President Trump has suddenly pulled back the reins on the Saudi nuclear deal, which is likely being felt as a major shock in Riyadh, given that the deal was already signed Wednesday by Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

Trump in a Thursday morning Truth social post declared that the deal will only be finally approved "totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords."

Upon Wednesday's signing, there was no mention of the Abraham Accords, also when the Energy Department hailed the deal on X, suggesting it was a 'done deal' and all wrapped up - although the text has not been released, and no definitive outlines have been publicly issued.

Also, the oil-rich kingdom did not mention anything about major stipulations like normalization with Israel, but instead an official statement only indicated that the deal would attempt to "diversify energy sources, advance cutting-edge technologies, and expand opportunities for cooperation and investment in ways that serve the mutual interests of the two friendly countries."

The deal has been controversial among US lawmakers, given it opens the potential for a Saudi path to a nuclear bomb, and broader proliferation in the Middle East. But Trump has sought to clamp down on such criticisms, stressing in his new statement there will ⁠be "no ⁠enrichment of ⁠material" under the agreement and that it "pertains only to non-military use."

The pact would allow US companies to build a uranium enrichment facility in Saudi Arabia - but the country's direct ability to enrich automatically opens the pathway to future weaponization.

Saudi Arabia's entry into the Abraham Accords has long been a major Trump administration priority, going back to the launch of the accords in Trump's first term, after which the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and later Sudan and Morocco - formally signed on.

But then the Gaza war happened, and Saudi sentiment soured. Even if the kingdom's ruling monarchy wanted to go ahead and enter normalization with Israel, leaders would have an angry population and powerful clerical class to deal with.

Clearly Trump just threw a big monkey wrench into the whole thing at the 11th hour: "A senior administration official told NBC News on Wednesday that Trump had approved the deal, which was expected to be submitted to Congress for review."

Senate Blocks Iran War Powers Resolution to Restrain Trump After These Four House Republicans Vote with Dems to Advance Measure

The US Senate on Thursday rejected an Iran war powers resolution to restrain President Trump in a 47 to 49 vote.

RINO Senator Susan Collins voted with the Democrats.

Democrat Senator John Fetterman voted with the Republicans.

Senators Rand Paul and Lisa Murkowski did not vote.

The Senate blocked the war powers resolution after the House earlier Thursday voted 214-208 to pass the measure.

Four Republicans voted with the Democrats to pass the measure: Barrett, Fitzpatrick, Davidson, and Massie.

The Senate rejected the latest attempt to rein in President Trump’s war powers in Iran on Thursday, soon after the House adopted a separate measure rebuking the president amid escalations in the conflict in recent days.

In a 47 to 49 vote, one Republican — Susan Collins of Maine — joined Democrats in voting to advance the measure. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was the sole Democrat to oppose. Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Rand Paul of Kentucky, who have previously supported similar war powers efforts, did not vote.

The resolution, led by Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, would direct the president to “remove the United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against Iran, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a specific authorization for use of military force.”

In late February, Israeli and US forces launched joint military strikes against Iran.

Earlier this month, a ceasefire agreement fell apart after Iran attacked commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and launched attacks against bases in Jordan.

On Wednesday evening, the US Military launched its 12th consecutive night of strikes against Iran.

18 US service members have been killed in action in the Middle East since the beginning of the Iran war.

Not So Fast: Software Company Blamed For Illegal Alien Voter Registration Says State Government Knew

The software vendor Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill faulted for putting 6,600 noncitizens on the voter rolls says the state had the data to stop it and signed off anyway.

IDEMIA, the French identity technology firm Sherrill blamed this week, pushed back on the governor’s account in a statement to the New York Post. Spokesperson Lisa Shoemaker confirmed Sherrill’s statement that all 6,600 people answered “Yes” to registering and “No” to being a citizen — which should have rendered them ineligible for the voter rolls — but disputed the governor’s claim that a “glitch” allowed them to be registered.

“The 6,600 records submitted to the [Motor Vehicle Commission] and Division of Elections contained correct information according to the design specifications as set out by the state,” she told the Post, adding that the responses were “recorded correctly and always available.”

Shoemaker also told the outlet that “at no point was a noncitizen ever marked as a citizen in the database” and that the company “does not control or manage voter enrollment,” suggesting that the fault lies elsewhere.

Sherrill told reporters Tuesday that a serious software error in the state’s Motor Vehicle System caused the mistake, which she said led to roughly 400 noncitizens casting ballots, according to the New Jersey Monitor. The error ran from June 2023 to June 2024 under her predecessor, Democrat Phil Murphy, and the state found no evidence any election was swayed, the Monitor reported.

A New Jersey official rejected IDEMIA’s version when reached by the Post. “Anytime somebody answers ‘no’ to the citizenship question, that record should not be transmitted to the Division of Elections,” the official said.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon gave the state five business days to hand over the names, birth dates, nationalities and addresses of the 6,600 registrants, plus voting records for the 400 who cast ballots, Fox News reported. Dhillon tied the demand to an existing federal suit over the state’s voter database, according to Fox.

Sherrill’s camp cast the probe as political. “The Trump administration has a long history of weaponizing the Justice Department for political purposes and attempting to overturn election results,” spokesperson Sean Higgins told the Post.

Republican New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer has asked the General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget for a government-wide audit of every federal contract tied to IDEMIA, telling GSA’s Edward Forst and OMB’s Russ Vought that the failure raises national concerns, the New Jersey Globe reported.

“The deeper problem is national,” Gottheimer said. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson pointed to the case as reason to pass the SAVE Act, while state Republicans called for an end to automatic voter registration at DMVs, according to the Monitor.

Australia’s first-ever clinical guidelines on childhood hypertension aim to address findings that some primary school children already have signs of developing heart damage.

Experts are calling for blood pressure checks to become a routine part of childhood healthcare starting at the age of seven.

Magnolia Diagnostics, a clinical laboratory based in Dallas, Texas, and its owners, John Bains and Kelly Bains, have agreed to pay the United States $19.2 million to resolve allegations that they violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare for medically unnecessary respiratory pathogen panel testing performed on seniors receiving COVID-19 tests. Magnolia investors will pay an additional $4.8 million to resolve common law claims for unjust enrichment and payment by mistake and claims under the Federal Debt Collection Procedures Act, arising from distributions they received from Magnolia.

Magnolia allegedly treated provider signatures on those forms as blanket or standing orders authorizing RPPs for all seniors across entire communities or chains of communities, and then used those purported authorizations to perform RPPs on specimens collected during community-wide COVID-19 testing.
