"Adaptation for modern audience" sounds more like throwing women into the future meat grinder, than giving them the knowledge required to make the right choices. It's not about right or wrong, it's about what will happen, period, end of discussion.

my FEMALE english teacher in high school read this passage to us WITH DELIGHT in order to shame the hoes in class and validate the good ones while also pointing out what a real man looks like. She even said as much with the lesson, basically without calling them out, by defining the play's "stereotypical gender roles" with great glee. The express purpose of this English 10 lesson was to shame the whores in class publicly without naming them, just knowing they existed.
It worked for like two years lol

Killing traitors was how it was done. The women executed spent years working with the suitors. They not only spied for them and helped them as they violated the palace, they abandoned their duties and smiled in the faces of Telemachus and Penelope as they enjoyed having more authority in the palace than the Prince and the Queen. I've read this book several time, and I never had a problem with the ending. Odysseus had to literally and figuratively clean house, and traitors were not allowed to stay. The women just had to clean and got hung; the male servants who betrayed Odysseus got it much worse.
