Have always been interested in finding meaning in life beyond the five senses, but usually avoid discussions on religion.
Why?
Many people who are strongly religious:
-
were raised that way (deep roots, ties to fam)
-
have had profound experiences that they interpret as associated with a religion, or
-
have had conversion experiences (often after awful) that make religion a safe haven
Anti-religious folks have had the opposite and thus react against religion.
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE AN INTELLIGENT DISCUSSION UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES?
