Dr. Anthony Fauci Testifies on Origins of COVID-19 Pandemic
>During a Senate hearing on his role during the COVID-19 pandemic, former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci invoked his Fifth Amendment right to not answer questions, saying he feared Republicans would try to use his testimony to prosecute him for perjury. Committee Chair Rand Paul (R-KY) subpoenaed Dr. Fauci and released over 1,100 pages of the diary Dr. Fauci kept during the pandemic, including his thoughts on the origin of the virus. Sen. Paul had long criticized Dr. Fauci for his role during the pandemic and accused him of covering up funding for experimental research in China, implying the virus may have originated in a Chinese lab. Upon Dr. Fauci invoking the Fifth Amendment, Sen. Paul warned him about possibly obstructing an investigation and announced the committee would hold a contempt of Congress vote the following week. Dr. Fauci in his opening statement defended himself and said Sen. Paul had an "unhinged obsession" with him.
