Mitch McConnell Aide Refuses to Answer Why There's Still No Video of Ailing Republican Senator Amid Health Concerns

Ailing Sen. Mitch McConnell’s Senior Communications Adviser, Robert Steurer, abruptly walked away and refused to answer when cornered by a reporter demanding to know why there is no video proof of life showing the hospitalized senator.

The confrontation, which was recorded and widely shared on social media by reporter Nicholas A. Ballasy, has significantly heightened public speculation regarding the 84-year-old lawmaker's true medical condition.

Ballasy asked if the senator should release a video statement to accompany the static photo previously provided by his office.

Sen. Mitch McConnell’s Senior Communications Adviser Robert Steurer wouldn’t respond when asked if McConnell will release a video statement. He also wouldn’t respond to KY Gov. @AndyBeshearKY, who has been calling for McConnell to verbally address the public

Steurer completely avoided answering the question and walked away from the camera.

Ballasy also confronted McConnell’s communications director, Stephanie Penn, to press her for updates on Thursday, July 23.

He approached Penn in the halls of Congress and asked if McConnell would release a video statement to address public rumors and skepticism surrounding a recent hospital photo.

Penn just smiled, declined to answer, and remained completely silent while walking past the reporter.

The adviser's sudden exit went viral on social media, fueling theories that the senator's team is covering up a far more critical medical status, such as being on life support.

The Kentucky Republican was hospitalized on June 14. Leaked audio and neighbor recordings revealed that emergency responders were initially called to his Washington, D.C., residence for an unconscious individual experiencing "cardiac arrest" with "CPR in progress.”

His spokesperson, David Popp, and other aides have issued written statements claiming McConnell is "recovering" and working remotely on Senate matters.

However, they have persistently failed to release any real-time photo or video evidence to prove it.

Democratic Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshearand various political commentators have publicly demanded a video update.

They argue that voters — acting as the "boss"— deserve proof of capacity for a public official who has vanished from the Senate floor for well over a month.

McConnell is allegedly undergoing a "strenuous course of physical therapy" to rebuild strength and reduce the risk of future falls.

Doctors noted that the lifelong effects of McConnell’s childhood polio continue to act as a "significant factor in his mobility.”

Trump’s support for Graham’s sister stirs GOP backlash in South Carolina

A field of Republican challengers in the special Senate primary next month is setting up another test of the president’s political clout.

President Donald Trump has put his weight behind Sen. Darline Graham in her bid to succeed her late brother, Lindsey Graham, for a full term. But rather than embracing the president’s endorsed candidate in a whirlwind election less than two weeks away, influential conservative activists in South Carolina say they’re not swayed.

Trump’s conservative base could again reject one of his chosen candidates this year — as they did in South Carolina’s GOP gubernatorial primary in June — as his supporters question whether the president is acting with their top priorities in mind.

“People are going to be independently minded in this, and I don’t think that Trump is the end all, be all that he used to be,” said CJ Westfall, chairman of the Dorchester County Republican Party.

Many conservative activists say they aren’t sold on Graham because of her lack of a political record, besides her public support for her brother.

Trump initially called for Graham to be appointed to serve the remaining six months of her brother’s term, then quickly backed her after she unexpectedly decided to seek a full term.

A dozen GOP candidates filed to run in the Aug. 11 primary election before this week’s deadline. They include Reps. Ralph Norman and Russell Fry, who have conservative voting records in Congress, and former governor Mark Sanford.

The crowded special election is expected to go to an Aug. 25 runoff. And runoff elections, Westfall said, “typically bring out the hard core of the hard core.”

Even national Republican operatives sympathetic to Darline Graham, and who were aligned with her brother, are privately conceding that her odds of success in the primary race appear slim.

Tuskegee University is trending in the news but not for anything related to the iconic Tuskegee Airmen or the school’s other notable alumni like civil rights activist Dr. Betty Shabazz, R&B legend Lionel Richie or radio personality Tom Joyner.

This time the Alabama HBCU is going viral for enforcing campus wardrobe standards.

The new dress code which is causing quite a stir online prohibits Tuskegee University students from wearing bedroom slippers, bonnets and durags in classrooms and the cafeteria. This recently announced update to its dress code policy and behavioral standards will reportedly go into effect for students beginning this (2026-2027) academic school year. “Revealing clothing” will also be banned in classrooms, dining areas and official university events such as Convocation.

Students attending professional events or business meetings must wear business suits and appropriate footwear under the updated guidelines, according to the media outlet al.com.

But is this policy really that new? According to Tuskegee University’s official website, the storied school had similar policies in place as recently as last school year ahead of their 2026 Commencement. Below is an excerpt from said dress code for the Class of 2026’s spring graduation:

All degree candidates should dress in a manner appropriate for the dignity and solemnity of the University’s Commencement Exercises. All degree candidates must wear academic regalia (caps and gowns) to the Commencement exercises. Graduates should wear black shoes and clothing that harmonize with academic regalia. Sneakers, fuzzy slippers, flip flops, and crocs of any kind are not allowed, and heeled shoes over 4 inches in height are prohibited. Please note that Dress Attire will be enforced. Those not in dress attire will be removed from the Line of March.

We understand that some graduates may have cultural or personal preferences for dress attire, and those who need to wear specific attire for religious or cultural purposes (e.g., hijab, etc.) are welcomed to do so. “The goal here is not meant to restrict students from enjoying the Tuskegee Experience, but to prepare them with a solid foundation for the workforce they will enter once they leave Tuskegee,” Tuskegee University President Dr. Mark A. Brown explained according to HBCU Game Day. He added that the private institution is entering a period of transformation and renewal while expecting its largest new-student enrollment in 32 years.

While there is some chatter online shaming the new dress code as a sign of respectability politics and cultural policing, most people across social media agree that the dress code enforcement is a positive update. Many alumni (including recent graduates) have also commented that these policies are not uncommon at historically Black colleges and universities including Dillard University, Hampton University and Fisk University while maintaining across the board that they appreciate their respective alma mater's positioning on the subject at hand.

Jim Watkins, who helped facilitate the rise of QAnon to become a violent conspiracy movement that has infected large parts of the Republican Party, told the Jan. 6 committee that in fact,QAnon was invented by George Soros.

The transcript of Watkins’ June 2022 interview with the committee was published on Tuesday evening and reveals that the founder of 8kun, the platform where the anonymous leader of QAnon posted thousands of messages,

not only denied being behind QAnon but went one step further and claimed it was nothing more than a fiction created by the left to stifle independent thought.

“QAnon is manufactured by the left-wing media, and it’s probably put out mostly by a company called Media Matters, which is, I believe, funded by a man named George Soros,”

Watkins said in testimony that was given under the penalty of perjury. “It’s manufactured. It’s not anything to do with my website. I’ve used the term a couple times, and that’s before I realized what it even was.”

Watkins claimed to the committee’s investigators that Soros and Media Matters colluded to invent the QAnon movement in order to ”make it a boogeyman” because “they don’t like people thinking for themselves.”
