The report notes that the "human skin tissues" used in the skin grafting experiments were obtained "from the scalp and dorsum" of "donors," namely aborted fetuses.

 

Some of the grafted fetal skin, the study notes, matured into "adult-like human skin." Some of the grafts even developed "human skin appendages," including "human hair evident at 12 weeks post-transplantation."

Federal records show that the NIAID supplied the project with about $430,000 in funding over 2018 and 2019.

On the Pardon: Before the hearing @SenRandPaul 2a former senior Justice Department prosecutor told me there are three, viable legal strategies to challenge the preemptive Biden pardon.

 

But there is no easy path.

 

One strategy calls for charging Fauci with a crime, with the expectation he would file a motion with the court to dismiss based on the pardon. This could open the door to challenging the sweeping pardon’s viability and years of litigation.

 

Another strategy involves Congress. Because Fauci has theoretically been preemptively pardoned against past and future criminal charges related to his NIH work, it can be argued that Fauci has no plausible claim to the 5th Amendment, the right against self-incrimination.

Finally, one of Fauci’s closest associates has been criminally charged. With pressure and the right incentives he might be flipped and become a cooperating witness.

 

Dr. David Morens, who was a senior advisor to Fauci at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was indicted on multiple charges including conspiracy and obstruction, including destruction, alteration or falsification of federal records.

 

Along with allegations that personal email accounts were used to evade the Freedom of Information Act, this could be a powerful motivator.

 

From media reports: Dr. David Morens has pleaded not guilty to all five federal criminal counts.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, invoked his 5th Amendment right against self-incrimination on Wednesday as he appeared before the Senate Homeland Security Committee.

He chose then – as now – to deny, under oath, allegations brought by Sen. Paul of obscuring the origins of the Chinese coronavirus pandemic and controversial infectious disease research.

 

As Breitbart News reported, Fauci is testifying following the disclosure of personal diaries that call into question the decisions he made in response to the pandemic that began in March 2020 before quickly sweeping the world.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., on Wednesday warned Dr. Anthony Fauci that the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee may consider "consequences" for him after he refused to answer questions.

 

Fauci declined to answer questions from the panel, citing his 5th Amendment rights. Paul, for his part, noted that Fauci had received a pardon from President Joe Biden and that the committee chairman had rejected his claims of privilege.

 

"The Chairman has denied your assertion of privilege and directed you to answer. But you nonetheless refuse and stand on privilege despite the existence of the pardo," Paul said. "The Committee will have to consider, after this hearing, what appropriate action should be taken against you for the failure to testify after being directed to do so."

 

"It's against the law to obstruct an investigation of Congress. There will be repercussions to your refusal to testify today," he added.

 

The committee has sought testimony from Fauci about his role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the Pardon: Before the hearing @SenRandPaul

a former senior Justice Department prosecutor told me there are three, viable legal strategies to challenge the preemptive Biden pardon.

 

But there is no easy path.

 

One strategy calls for charging Fauci with a crime, with the expectation he would file a motion with the court to dismiss based on the pardon. This could open the door to challenging the sweeping pardon’s viability and years of litigation.

Along with allegations that personal email accounts were used to evade the Freedom of Information Act, this could be a powerful motivator.

It has been my distinct pleasure to lead the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus

andemic for the 118th Congress. I was honored to be entrusted with a great responsibility: to

nvestigate a once in 100-year pandemic and to prepare America for next time and there will be

a next time. This is a responsibility I took very seriously, and I believe that seriousness and

Five years ago, on December 1, 2019, was what would eventually be the first confirmed

case of COVID-19. After that, a pandemic devastated the world at nearly never before seen

proportions, leaving millions dead and millions more concerned about long-term consequences.

COVID-19 was novel. The brightest scientists and medical experts were learning on the

job to determine how to treat both the underlying disease and the second order side effects.

Since February 2023, the Select Subcommittee sought to produce a full after-action report

to provide a road map of how we, in Congress, the Executive, and the private sector may better

prepare for and respond to future pandemics. Throughout this process, the Select Subcommittee

sent more than 100 investigative letters, conducted 38 transcribed interviews or depositions, held

25 hearings or meetings, and reviewed more than one million pages of documents from dozens

of custodians. This work looks back on many events, comments, guidances, and other actions, to

look forward. This is the single most thorough review of the pandemic conducted to date.

Most of you know me. You know I strive to work collegially, with our fellow Americans,

to provide results for all of us. That is the same mentality I brought to my work as Chairman of

the Select Subcommittee. During a time of intense partisanship, the Select Subcommittee had

bipartisan consensus across multiple topics.

1) The possibility that COVID-19 emerged because of a laboratory or research related

accident is not a conspiracy theory.

2) EcoHealth Alliance, Inc. and Dr. Peter Daszak should never again receive U.S. taxpayer

dollars.

3) Scientific messaging must be clear and concise, backed by evidentiary support, and come

from trusted messengers, such as front-line doctors treating patients.

4) Public health officials must work to regain American's trust; Americans want to be

educated, not indoctrinated

5) Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo participated in medical malpractice and

publicly covered up the total number of nursing home fatalities in New York.

In addition to these notable bipartisan successes, the Select Subcommittee developed

extensive findings, some of which include:

1) The U.S. National Institutes of Health funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan

Institute of Virology.

2) The Chinese government, agencies within the U.S. Government, and some members of

the international scientific community sought to cover-up facts concerning the origins of

the pandemic.

3) Operation Warp Speed was a tremendous success and a model to build upon in the future.

The vaccines, which are now probably better characterized as therapeutics, undoubtedly

saved millions of lives by diminishing likelihood of severe disease and death.

4) Rampant fraud, waste, and abuse plagued the COVID-19 pandemic response.

5) Pandemic-era school closures will have enduring impact on generations of America’s

children and these closures were enabled by groups meant to serve those children.

6) The Constitution cannot be suspended in times of crisis and restrictions on freedoms sow

distrust in public health.

7) The prescription cannot be worse than the disease, such as strict and overly broad

lockdowns that led to predictable anguish and avoidable consequences.

Chairing the Select Subcommittee for the 118th Congress has been my honor. I said from

the beginning, this work is the single most impactful responsibility I have undertaken in 12 years

in Congress, and it has been. This work will help the United States, and the world, predict the

next pandemic, prepare for the next pandemic, protect ourselves from the next pandemic, and

hopefully prevent the next pandemic. Members of the 119th Congress should continue and build

off this work, there is more information to find and honest actions to be taken.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted a distrust in leadership. Trust is earned.

Accountability, transparency, honesty, and integrity will regain this trust. A future pandemic

requires a whole of America response managed by those without personal benefit or bias. We can

“Absolutely insane. I thought it was a plane on fire,” one commentator wrote. “It was huge, the ball was orange with a purple tail. We saw black soot coming off it,” wrote another.

One person said it was the biggest they had seen: “It had a tail that stretched most of the sky and had brilliant colours.”

 

Another wrote said they heard “a loud low rumble” that disturbed birds in the area, while one witness said their “cows went nuts”.

“We heard and saw it in Ruby Bay [and] wondered what the noise was, like someone hit a wheelie bin with a stone,” another said.

 

Steve Wyn-Harris, who recently became director of Fireballs Aotearoa, an organisation made up of geologists, astronomers and citizen scientists who track meteors and meteorites, was relaxing in his spa in Hawke’s Bay when the sky lit up.

“I saw a big flash in the sky and thought, ‘No, that can’t be a fireball – this would be too good to be true’,” he said.

 

He initially thought it was lightning, until his phone started pinging with eyewitness reports.

“More importantly, what’s exciting about this is people heard the sound, the sonic boom,” he said, which means the meteor reached relatively close to the ground.

 

On Sunday night, South Island residents reported a similar streak of light.

Fireballs Aotearoa is encouraging residents in the lower North Island to keep their eyes peeled for debris – called meteorites – from Tuesday’s suspected meteor and to contact the group if they find anything.

“Look out for a black stone that wouldn’t ordinarily be there,” Wyn-Harris said.

 

Just 10 confirmed meteorites have been found in New Zealand in the past 150 years, but many more will have fallen and never been found. Retrieving one can be difficult:

New Zealand has a small population that is unlikely to spot most meteors entering the atmosphere, has rugged and dense terrain that can hinder the hunt for debris, and there is a lack of infrastructure to help triangulate the location of a landing.

 

But that is changing, Wyn-Harris said. Fireballs Aotearoa has 200 cameras set up around the country, and an increase in security cameras and dashcams could help efforts to retrieve meteorites.

NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover Discovers Field of Honeycomb Textures

As NASA’s Curiosity rover recently began climbing up a Martian valley nicknamed “Valle Grande,” it sent back images that were a familiar sight to mission scientists: honeycomb-like textures called polygonal fractures, each one about 1.5 to 3 inches (4 to 8 centimeters) across.

The mission has spotted small patches of these geometric shapes several times before, but nothing at the scale discovered in Valle Grande.

 

In a 360-degree panorama that the rover captured on June 19 and 20, the 4,930th and 4,931st Martian days, or sols, of the mission, the polygonal shapes spread in all directions for as far as the rover can see.

They even wrap around the sides of a nearby butte nicknamed “Miraflores,” which stands 20 feet (6 meters) tall and is topped with a thick cap of sand.

 

“We’ve seen a lot of fascinating landscapes through Curiosity’s eyes, but this sea of polygons took our breath away,” said the mission’s project scientist, Ashwin Vasavada of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

“We measured their shapes and chemistry carefully and are hopeful there are clues in the data as to how these features formed.”

 

Some of the polygons that the mission has spotted in the past clearly formed as mud cracks, though a variety of processes can contribute to their honeycomb textures, including cycles of warm and cold temperatures or compression that squeezed water out of the sediment when the surface was buried.

These newly discovered polygons are among the many surprises Curiosity has trundled across since landing on Mars 14 years ago, on Aug. 5, 2012.

Besides sulfur crystals, shiny meteorites, and other interesting geologic features, the rover has made major discoveries about the ancient Martian environment — most importantly, that it had the water, chemistry, and nutrients to support microbial life.

 

Billions of years ago, lakes and streams dappled the lower foothills of Mount Sharp, a 3-mile-tall (5-kilometer-tall) mountain that Curiosity has been ascending since 2014.

The rover has previously uncovered chemistry left over from Mars’ watery history, including carbon-based molecules believed to be precursors to RNA and DNA, two nucleic acids that carry genetic information.

Scientists have no way of knowing whether these organic molecules were created by biologic or geologic processes — either path is possible — but their discovery reconfirmed that ancient Mars had the right chemistry to support life.
