Conflict Hits 6 Months: Iran Says Diplomacy Can Return But "Pressure Doesn't Work"

"Putting diplomacy back on track isn't impossible. It hinges on U.S. understanding of one simple fact: pressure doesn't work. The U.S. should build trust, speak respectfully, acknowledge our rights, and uphold commitments," Araghchi stated.

The talks with the top Qatari delegation happened in Tehran, and according to a summary from Doha's side:

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said talks covered efforts to de-escalate regional tensions and a proposed interim framework establishing “a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz,” alongside a joint operation to clear mines from the strait.

Al Thani stressed “the necessity of respecting the sovereignty of neighboring countries and freedom of navigation” and resolving disputes through dialogue.

According to Qatar’s readout, Araghchi thanked Doha for its diplomatic efforts supporting dialogue and de-escalation.

And yet, President Trump has this week insisted that all mines are already clear from the strait, as a result of the work of the US Navy. It has remained unclear what precise data or confirmation he is relying on.

As for Qatar, it along with Pakistan helped broker the memorandum of understanding in June, which has since gone defunct and is also now expired.

President Trump had once again on Thursday claimed that Iran is "begging to make a deal" - something which is not evident in any public stance or statements out of Iran.

Instead, Iranian officials have continued by and large striking a defiant tone, with the Foreign Ministry on Friday blasting the "economic terrorism" of the Trump administration.

"The US abuse of the dollar as a tool to intimidate other countries in order to force them to follow its interventionist policies, which violate international law, in relation to Iran, constitutes a violation of the national sovereignty and right to self-determination of all member states of the United Nations," the statement said. "US sanctions against Iran, due to both their nature and consequences, constitute a flagrant violation of the UN Charter."

The NY Times on Friday underscores that Friday is precisely the six month mark of the Iran conflict, writing:

Still, six months after the U.S. and Israel launched massive airstrikes on Iran, the conflict drags on. The Trump administration has replaced its military war with an economic one, but the result is likely to be no different, analysts said, with a lack of American clarity about goals, a decline in American credibility and a strategic defeat.

One thing remains constant, however. The ordinary people of Iran are bearing the brunt of the war, victims of both the United States and their own leaders.

ICE Awards $16.7 Million No-Bid Contract For 6,000 Pairs Of Electric Shock Gloves

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has awarded a $16.7 million contract to purchase 6,000 pairs of gloves that can deliver electric shocks. Officers would use them to control resisting detainees and protesters, according to a federal notice published Thursday.

The no-bid deal went to Compliant Technologies LLC, a Kentucky firm that manufactures the devices, and covers the gloves plus support equipment and services over the next six months.

ICE moved forward with the purchase despite ongoing objections from civil rights advocates and Democratic senators. They said the agency already draws criticism for use of force with unclear oversight.

Hours before the notice appeared, a group of senators led by Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) wrote to ICE's acting director, urging the agency to abandon the plan. Fifteen colleagues from the Democratic caucus signed on.

"The blatant and tragic misuse of force in Los Angeles, Chicago, Minneapolis, Houston, Maine, and other locations around the country raises significant skepticism about the agency's professional capability to safely deploy a new tool that could be used to harm Americans without cause," the letter said.

The Department of Homeland Security, ICE's parent agency, defended the purchase Thursday.

"Sanctuary politicians attempting to ban our federal law enforcement from any safety equipment is despicable and a deliberate attempt to undermine and endanger our officers," the agency said in a statement.

The plan for the purchase surfaced earlier this month when ICE posted a notice about buying thousands of "conductive distraction and de-escalation devices" for officers and investigators.

Gloves Look Like Regular Gear Until Button Is Pressed

The gloves appear as ordinary patrol gloves until an officer presses a button, which activates electrical mode. The shock works only on bare skin, and aims to produce enough pain to make a resisting person comply. Some local jails and police departments already use similar equipment.

ICE's notice listed several scenarios for the devices, including high-tension environments during arrests, transport of combative detainees, and civil disturbances outside detention facilities.

"It will be used when a subject is actively or passively resisting and an officer needs to gain control quickly to prevent injuries to both parties," the document said.

Donald Trump has declared himself the “greatest” president in US history while branding Joe Biden and Barack Obama “failures” in a ranking posted on Truth Social.

Abraham Lincoln, who led the US through the Civil War and abolished slavery, and George Washington, the first US president and a founding father, were placed one tier below Trump.

The US president shared the ranking on Thursday alongside a CNN clip highlighting polling showing his dominance among Republican voters. The graphic divides US presidents into six tiers – ‘The Greatest’, ‘Great’, ‘Near Great’, ‘Average’, ‘Below Average’, and ‘Failures’ – with Trump alone at the top.

Lincoln, Washington, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Thomas Jefferson, and Andrew Jackson were placed in the ‘Great’ category. Theodore Roosevelt, Grover Cleveland, John Adams, and James K. Polk were rated ‘Near Great’, while Bill Clinton was among those deemed ‘Average’.

Biden and Obama were placed at the opposite end of Trump’s chart alongside fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter and former presidents Ulysses S. Grant and Warren G. Harding. The list contains 34 presidents and leaves out 11 others, including Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon, and both George Bushes.

The graphic appears to be an altered version of a ranking published by LIFE magazine in 1948, when Harvard historian Arthur Schlesinger Sr. asked 55 experts in American history to classify presidents as ‘great’, ‘near great’, ‘average’, ‘below average’, or ‘failure’. ‘Deception is the foundation of Western diplomacy’ – Lavrov

Russia was taken in by the West’s promises due to its peoples’ trusting nature, the foreign minister has explained

Moscow trusted in the decency of the West for years, but not anymore, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

In an interview with RBK released on Friday, Lavrov was asked why Russia allowed the US and EU to take advantage of it on numerous occasions in recent decades.

“Deception lies at the foundation of Western diplomacy. And it still does,” he replied.

The minister recalled how the Americans broke their promise not to expand NATO after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and how France and Germany became guarantors of a deal between democratically-elected Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and the opposition during the Maidan protests in Kiev in 2014, but proclaimed the rioters as victors after they seized government buildings the next day.

Nevertheless, Moscow did not abandon attempts to reach common ground with the West because “after all, we are a God-fearing nation. Our multi-ethnic people have many proverbs about their great patience: ‘God endured, and so must we’, ‘Measure twice, cut once’, ‘Don’t hold your breath for promises’,” he said.

“This reveals something about our psychology – not naivety ingrained by centuries of historical experience, but rather the enduring hope that a scoundrel cannot be a complete scoundrel, to put it simply,” Lavrov explained.

It is in the Russian national character to maintain “faith in people right to the very end. But the end has already come,” he said.

According to the minister, the US and EU “firmly set out on a course of supplying the Nazi Kiev regime with ever more advanced and increasingly deadly offensive weapons” after the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.

4 Giant Pesticide Companies Also Control Global Seed Market — That’s Bad for Consumers and Farmers

As the number of seed companies, which are also pesticide companies, consolidates through mergers, farmers face challenges associated with fewer seed choices, higher prices, less diversity and proprietary genetically engineered organisms. The Fair Seeds for Farmers Act aims to reduce the impact of corporate consolidation by addressing patent laws that favor big corporations and hurt farmers.

As the number of seed companies, which are also pesticide companies, consolidates through mergers, farmers face challenges associated with fewer seed choices, higher prices, less diversity and proprietary genetically engineered (GE) organisms.

To combat these problems, a nationwide action has been launched to tell members of the U.S. Congress to cosponsor the Fair Seeds for Farmers Act (H.R. 9681 and S. 5104).

A contributor to the high cost of food, seeds as an input account for up to 25% of farmers’ operating budgets. Four companies, the “Big 4,” control 51% of the global seed market — and they are the same four companies that control 62.3% of the agricultural chemical market — Bayer, Corteva, Syngenta (owned by ChemChina) and BASF.

The top four companies selling genetically modified seeds are the same. This concentration in the industry leads to higher costs and less choice for farmers, and less research into varieties suitable for organic systems.

The Fair Seeds for Farmers Act attempts to reduce these impacts. A 2023 U.S. Department of Agriculture report (USDA), “More and Better Choices for Farmers: Promoting Fair Competition and Innovation in Seeds and Other Agricultural Inputs, summarizes many of the problems.”

Farmers in the U.S. have not always needed to buy seed. The federal government — through the Patent Office until 1862 and the USDA thereafter until 1924 — mailed seeds free of charge to farmers throughout the country.

USDA collected seeds (germplasm) from farmers who experimented with varieties to meet regional needs, saved the seeds and shared them. In 1924, responding to pressure from seed companies, the practice ended.

Further support for the commercialization of seed production came from the Plant Patent Act (PPA) of 1930, applying to asexual reproduction of plants (e.g., grafting scions, cuttings, and runners), and the Plant Variety Protection Act (PVPA) of 1970, applying to seeds.

Under the PVPA, plant breeders were granted an exclusive right to propagate and sell their new varieties for 20 years, but those varieties were available to researchers who could use them for breeding new varieties, and farmers could save seeds to replant (and, until 1994, sell).

A number of Supreme Court decisions from 1980 to 2001 resulted in utility patents being issued for seeds and plants. Utility patents (“patents for invention” or “patents”), which can be issued by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for inventions that are novel, nonobvious and useful, apply to all users and can restrict seed saving, research and breeding.

Thus, patents eliminate resources from the pool of genetics available to plant breeders for improving crops. If breeders are allowed to use patented plants for breeding, they are often subject to restrictive licensing agreements.

Organic farmers can lose certified crops when genes (pollen) drift from GE plants. But they and others are also subject to lawsuits for patent infringement from the large seed/pesticide/biotech companies.

The Fair Seeds for Farmers Act, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Greg Casar as H.R. 9681 and S. 5104 in the U.S. Senate by Senators Peter Welch (D-Vt.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.), is an attempt to reduce the impacts of intellectual property (IP) laws on farmers through provisions that:

Clarify terms relating to IP protection for plants;

Limit the application of federal statutes for plant IP protection to that contained in the PPA and PVPA — thus eliminating the abusive use of utility patents; and

Protects the use of “a plant, plant variety, plant germplasm, or other biological material for research, breeding, experimentation, seed saving, or propagation” from being limited by contract or agreement.

(The legislation does not apply to existing patents.)

‘Delete From The Deleted File’ — Fauci Tried To Destroy Gain-Of-Function Research Email, New Docs Reveal

Eight years before COVID emerged, a journalist issued a prophetic warning that risky viral research could usher in “doomsday” and damage the reputation of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Anthony Fauci groused in an email to an aide about that warning, then instructed the aide to permanently delete the exchange, documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation show.

The documents add to growing evidence that Fauci destroyed public records despite his sworn testimony that he never did. Deleting government records violates federal law.

Fauci did not respond to a request for comment.

In 2011, the advent of gain-of-function research — experiments that make viruses more infectious or deadly in the lab — caused its first major controversy. With funding from Fauci’s institute at the NIH, Dutch virologist Ron Fouchier had made an airborne strain of a bird flu with an estimated 50% fatality rate, which he described as “probably one of the most dangerous viruses you can make.”

Fauci and New York Times science writer Phil Boffey traded barbs in newspaper opinion pages about the work.

Manmade pandemic viruses are a “risk worth taking,” Fauci insisted in a December 2011Washington Post editorial, because they could help drugmakers and public health get a jump start if they emerge in nature. NIH Director Francis Collins and National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Vaccine Research Center Gary Nabel co-authored the op-ed.

The New York Times published an op-ed apparently written by Boffey in January 2012 arguing that NIH created an “engineered doomsday” that could kill “hundreds of millions of people.” The new emails reveal the author of the un-bylined op-ed for the first time.

“The consequences, should the virus escape, are too devastating to risk,” he said in an apparent reference to the title of Fauci’s op-ed.

Boffey wrote a follow-up in March 2012 titled “The Truth About the Doomsday Virus?” Under scrutiny from the press, Fouchier had backpedaled on his earlier statements about his virus’s lethality. Fauci meanwhile pushed to publish the Fouchier experiment despite biosecurity experts’ concerns the information could fall into the hands of a bioterrorist.

As the question marks suggests, Boffey was skeptical of Fouchier’s assurances. Experts who had read his initial description of the experiment said it stated the airborne virus remained as lethal as the natural one, he wrote.

One sentence really rattled Fauci: “Now, this country’s National Institutes of Health, which financed the research and has its own reputation on the line, is asking the [NSABB] to reconsider its call to redact details before publication.”

“Phil Boffey is really off base here,” Fauci wrote to Collins, on March 4, 2012. “He is acting like a mischievous guy.”

“Clearly, people are getting to Phil Boffey and he is swallowing it,” Fauci sounded off in a more candid email to a subordinate the next morning.

Fauci strongly opposed a recommendation from the NIH’s biosecurity advisors to not publish sensitive details about Fouchier’s experiment. He said that if the advisors did not change their recommendation “the field of research on influenza … has a serious problem.”

“Please delete this e-mail and then delete from the deleted file,” Fauci said on his NIH email in apparent violation of federal record-keeping laws.

Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul highlighted two other instances of Fauci apparently seeking to delete public records in 2020, despite his sworn testimony before another committee in 2024 that he never did.

Fauci ultimately persuaded NIH’s biosecurity advisors to allow the Fouchier experiment to be published in full.

Trump Allies Allege Foreign Interference As Host At Israeli-Funded Media Outlet Repeatedly Targets Vance

Trump allies allege foreign interference as a host at an Israeli-funded media outlet has set its sights on targeting Vice President JD Vance.

The subject of the Trump-world ire is specifically commentary pushed by Emily Schrader, a media personality with the Jerusalem News Syndicate (JNS), a pro-Israel news and commentary outlet whose coverage generally reflects a conservative, right-leaning perspective. Schrader hosts JNS’s Axis of Truth podcast and co-hosts The Quad, a JNS YouTube show. Notably, JNS serves as a quasi-wire service for numerous Jewish-oriented publications across the U.S.

Since at least 2025, Schrader has used both her social media platforms and JNS to push unsubstantiated claims against the vice president. As well as level personal insults.

In a post on X earlier this summer, Schrader referred to Vance as a “clown,” and in another made the outlandish suggestion that the vice president “wants the [Iranian] regime to survive lol.”

Schrader, in a July X post, appears to mock the idea that an “Israeli conspiracy” could be amplifying criticism of Vance, claiming instead that “national security experts have watched him misread the regime, smear allies, ignore Qatar’s documented influence operations, and now even portray 94 million Iranians as a terrorist threat.” Despite brushing aside allegations of a foreign-sourced effort to smear the vice president, Schrader is very open about her own foreign interests, describing herself on her personal website as an “American-Israeli journalist, author, and human rights activist” focused on Israeli and Iranian affairs.

Importantly, JNS, which hosts much of Schrader’s content, has received significant funding from the Adelson Family Foundation, according to a Jewish Telegraphic Agency report. Established by Sheldon and Miriam Adelson, both major donors to Republican and Trump-aligned causes, the Adelson Family Foundation committed at least $1.2 million to JNS, including $300,000 in 2013, $450,000 in 2014, and another $450,000 pledged.

More recently, Inside Philanthropy listed JNS among the foundation’s recent Israel advocacy grantees.

Aside from JNS, Schrader also appears frequently as a host on ILTV Israel News, which bills itself as “an independent English-language media company based in Tel Aviv, Israel that provides daily Israel news and entertainment to its viewers,” and “Israel’s Largest English News Channel.” ILTV was owned by Simon Falic — a close friend and ally of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — and David Herzog up until May 2026, when it was sold to New York tech entrepreneur Reuven Moskowitz and the network’s CEO, Tom Zadok.

In 2025, Reuven Moskowitz bought a sprawling — over 18,000 square feet — mansion on Hadar Street in Caesarea for an estimated $26.3 million, as reported by Globes. According to the outlet, Arkady Gaydamak, a Russian-Israeli businessman, previously owned the property. The mansion’s location is notable as it makes Reuven Moskowitz effectively neighbors with Prime Minister Netanyahu, whose private residence is on the same small exclusive street.

Islamophobia has become Israel’s Trojan Horse to win over westerners

Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli (pictured above) has explained his own strategy more candidly than any critic could.

Antisemitism, he told an interviewer, does not much interest the average European or American, whereas fear of “radical Islam” interests them “very, very much”, and Israel therefore needs “to take advantage of that”.

Here is a senior cabinet minister admitting that Islamophobia has become a Trojan Horse for Israel to win over European and American hearts and minds.

And it is the clearest account yet of what his ministry has become under Benjamin Netanyahu; an office that once existed to protect Jewish communities abroad now works to turn European fear of Muslims into political capital for the Israeli government.

His ministry was built for the opposite work.

Diaspora affairs meant supporting Jewish communities, taking their guidance, defending them against the forces that genuinely threaten them.

But while his predecessors asked what would keep Jews safe, Chikli asks what narrative can be weaponised to make an easier sell. The most effective selling point, he has concluded, is not Israel at all but fear of somebody else.

A civilisational war

Since its genocide in Gaza, the old case for Israel on its own merits has grown harder to make, and a new one has slipped into its place. Support Israel, the argument runs, because Israel is fighting the people coming for you next.

In this narrative Israel becomes the forward operating base of a civilisational war, the frontier of what Chikli, in a 2024 interview with Jewish Insider, called the “Judeo-Christian world” set against a “red-green alliance” of the progressive left and Islam.

He deliberately blurs the line between confronting violent groups and Islam tapping into the playbook of far-right populism, which is on the rise across the West.

The company he keeps confirms as much.

Chikli has courted Marine Le Pen’s National Rally in France, Spain’s far-right Vox party, the Sweden Democrats, and Dutch populist Geert Wilders, every one of them a party built on hostility to immigration and to Islam.

Paradoxically, the ministry designed to protect Jews from antisemitism has become a ministry of subversion, ripening the very audiences and networks on the far right that have been on the very forefront of Jew hate globally.

In October 2025, days after two Jews were killed, one of them by police during armed response, outside a Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur, Chikli invited the English agitator Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon and who has accumulated multiple criminal convictions and prison terms over the past two decades, to Israel, and hailed him as “a courageous leader on the front line against radical Islam”.

Those protesting the visit at the time were not the progressive left Chikli likes to blame, but British Jews themselves.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews and the Jewish Leadership Council called Robinson “a thug who represents the very worst of Britain”, and they dismissed Chikli as “a diaspora minister in name only” who had ignored the community he claims to serve. Jews in whose name he claims to act wanted no part in this endeavour.

An institution built to bind Israel to Jewish communities has decided that the easy road to defending the undefendable rhetoric and action of the Netanyahu’s government runs not through making Israel more persuasive but through making Europeans more afraid.

And it asks Jews to hand their safety to the very politics of collective suspicion their own history should have taught the West to dread.

No one has ever defeated the hatred of one people by bankrolling the hatred of another.

The US has joined the UK in adding the activist group Palestine Action to its list of designated terrorist organizations.

The UK proscribing Palestine Action was already arguably the most insane attack on free speech in recent western history, and now it’s the official position of the US government as well. Western support for Israel is poisoning our entire civilization.

The US has also made the unprecedented move of adding the Italian tech support collective Autistici/Inventati to its list of banned terrorist groups, not because they’ve been accused of any crimes, but explicitly because the company allows people to communicate with each other while staying “anonymous, untraceable, and beyond the reach of the law.” Americans are now strictly forbidden from any transactions with the banned company.

In this dystopia, mass surveillance is now so normalized that you can be designated a terrorist for helping people avoid being surveilled.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just tweeted, “As the Iranian people struggle to afford basic necessities, the corrupt regime continues to squander enormous sums abroad. Instead of funneling billions of dollars to its terrorist proxies, the regime should spend that money for its people.”

Which is just hilarious, given what country this is coming from.

It’s so funny that US officials keep making this criticism of Iran. The United States is literally the single most egregious offender on the planet when it comes to spending obscene amounts of money on militarism and proxy warfare overseas while its own people struggle to afford basic necessities. I myself have built an entire career on slamming the United States for doing precisely this.

Greece And Israel Near ‘Achilles’ Shield’ Deal Directed Against Turkey

Greece and Israel are set to sign agreements next week in Tel Aviv launching the “Achilles’ Shield,” a multibillion-euro air defense project that Greek officials call a major step in modernizing the country’s defenses, Kathimerini reported on August 28.

The agreements will be signed on August 31 by Greece’s General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments, part of the Ministry of National Defense, and SIBAT, the Defense Cooperation Directorate of Israel’s Ministry of Defense. Once signed, the contracts will start a 35-month countdown to complete the project.

Sources at Greece’s Ministry of National Defense told the Greek news outlet that outstanding issues were resolved in recent days, including provisions guaranteeing 25 percent Greek industrial participation and the transfer of source code, which is meant to ensure Greek armed forces retain control of the software running the network.

The project is expected to cost a total of 3.1 billion euros. Twelve Greek companies are expected to take part, carrying out work valued at more than 700 million euros.

The network is designed to combine existing Greek assets — including Patriot long-range air defense systems and drones already deployed on islands and the mainland — with Israeli-made air defense systems. The latter include Rafael’s Spyder short-range systems; Israel Aerospace Industries’ Barak MX systems for medium-range threats; and David’s Sling, which intercepts ballistic missiles and other long-range threats.

Greek defense officials cited by Kathimerini said the network will run on artificial intelligence-based software that identifies and classifies potential threats and recommends the most effective means of interception.

The software will link subsystems responsible for ballistic missile defense, drone countermeasures, and broader air defense operations, evaluating data without human intervention and indicating the optimal response.

The officials also revealed that the project could help reduce costs by matching responses to the type of aerial threat involved.

Defense ties between Greece and Israel have expanded steadily over the past several years into a multifaceted partnership.

In 2021, Elbit Systems secured a long-term contract to operate and modernize the International Flight Training Center in Kalamata, giving the Israeli firm a sustained presence at a major Greek air base and providing the Hellenic Air Force with upgraded trainer aircraft and simulators.

Greece has since acquired Rafael’s Spike NLOS anti-tank missiles for island defense, and in late 2025 its parliament approved the purchase of 36 Elbit PULS multiple-launch rocket systems.

The two countries also operate a joint air training arrangement on Greek soil, conduct annual naval and air exercises. In addition, they signed frameworks for special-operations training, electronic-warfare cooperation, and counter-drone technology sharing.

Also in 2025, Greece, Cyprus, and Israel formalized a trilateral Joint Action Plan covering these areas, with Israeli lessons from recent conflicts — particularly against drones and saturation aerial attacks — explicitly included.

This deepening alignment is viewed in Ankara as directed against Turkish interests. Turkey has repeatedly stated that it is “closely monitoring” Greek military activities and the Greece–Israel–Cyprus partnership, which Turkish officials describe as an attempt at strategic encirclement and a challenge to Ankara’s “Blue Homeland” maritime claims in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.

Greek purchases of Israeli systems capable of defending islands close to the Turkish coast, combined with improved early-warning and layered interception capabilities, are seen by Turkish defense planners as altering the regional military balance.

The cooperation therefore functions both as a practical force-multiplier for Greece’s long-standing deterrence posture toward Turkey and as a strategic counterweight that Ankara regards with open suspicion.

Four COVID ​shots have been approved for use ⁠in the U.S. These are Moderna's mNEXSPIKE and Spikevax, Pfizer-BioNTech's Comirnaty — all ​three mRNA-based vaccines — and Novavax-Sanofi's protein-based shot, Reuters reported.
