Taxpayers who watched entire neighborhoods burn in January 2025 now watch the same government treat federal immigration enforcement as another "emergency" worthy of six-figure rent wipeouts.

After the Eaton and Palisades fires, supervisors approved $10 million to help tenants and landlords dealing with fire-related rent losses. They then kept $5 million for fire claims and moved the other $5 million into a priority category covering "economic hardship because of federal actions targeting immigrant communities." Another $9.788 million from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund was pointed at the same category unless fire victims still had unmet need.

Households can receive up to six months of housing debt relief, generally capped at $15,000 per rental unit. Eligible costs include unpaid rent, mortgages, and related expenses.

The county's own February 2026 program guide states: "Program eligibility does not require the disclosure of household members' immigration status."

If an applicant claims federal enforcement caused the hardship, officials may ask for detention records. They do not have to produce them. An attestation or other hardship can still qualify the household. The county therefore cannot tell the public how many noncitizens received the money - because it chose not to collect the data.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has ordered that automated license plate readers, including Flock cameras, be removed from state roads.

FDOT issued a memorandum Monday directing local law enforcement agencies to remove all license plate readers (LPRs) from state highway rights-of-way within 30 days, a deadline of Sept. 30, 2026.

Prysmian, one of the giants in the cable manufacturing industry, has announced that it are investing over $1 billion into a manufacturing facility in North Carolina, creating hundreds of new jobs.

The 1.2 million-square-foot campus is expected to nearly double the size of Prysmian’s on-site workforce, which will create fiber optic cables that are critical for the American economy and national security. The construction project will take an estimated two years to complete.

“This investment demonstrates our commitment to supporting the growth of the U.S. demand for advanced digital solutions. We are one of just three U.S. manufacturers of fiber and optical cables, and now we are committing more than a billion dollars to new innovative solutions and transformational capacity growth,” said Andrea Pirondini, Prysmian North America CEO, in a press release.

Prysmian has been a major ally to President Donald Trump’s economic policies. They wholeheartedly endorsed Trump’s retaliatory tariffs due to their boon to the American copper industry.

Today, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York ruled that the State of New York may not impose strict liability on energy companies for their alleged contributions to global greenhouse gas emissions. In 2024, New York enacted the “Climate Change Superfund Act,” which purported to impose billions of dollars on domestic and foreign energy companies that extract fossil fuels or refine crude oil. A coalition of states and trade organizations sued, alleging that the Act is preempted by the federal Clean Air Act and by the federal foreign affairs power, and that the Act violates the Constitution. After the case was consolidated with a suit filed by a different coalition of trade organizations, the Justice Department filed a statement of interest and presented oral argument in support of the plaintiffs. The court agreed that the New York Climate Change Superfund Act is preempted by the Clean Air Act and by the federal foreign affairs power, and the court held that the Climate Act is invalid.

“The Department of Justice is delivering on President Trump’s order to protect American energy from state overreach,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of the Justice Department’s Energy and Natural Resources Division (ENRD). “New York’s law would have expropriated $75 billion from energy companies around the world during an energy emergency and in direct defiance of American foreign policy and federal law. We will continue to fight for affordable, reliable energy for all Americans.”

President Trump directed the Attorney General to take action to stop the enforcement of state laws that unreasonably burden domestic energy development so that energy will once again be reliable and affordable for all Americans. The Justice Department’s support in this case advances President Trump’s directive in Executive Order 14260, Protecting American Energy from State Overreach.
