US diesel prices have hit a new record, soaring past $6 per gallon this week

US President Donald Trump has blamed Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky for the ongoing diesel price shock, saying it was a result of Kiev’s attacks on Russian refineries.

The national average price of diesel hit more than $6 per gallon on Friday, up from approximately $5.85 last week. The price has climbed some 60% compared to the same period last year, when diesel fuel cost some $3.71 per gallon. Market experts have mainly linked the hike to the conflict in the Middle East and the reignited hostilities between the US and Iran, which have prompted a renewed rise in crude oil prices.

Trump, however, insisted that this was not the case, telling reporters while on a visit to Ireland that the diesel price spike was actually related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The US president said he had already raised the issue with the Ukrainian leader and told him to stop attacking diesel production in Russia.

“Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia. Let him go after targets, but not diesel fuel, because he’s causing a shortage of diesel,” Trump asserted, adding that “this isn’t done by the Middle East.”

In recent months, Ukraine has repeatedly attacked oil refineries and other petroleum installations in Russia. While the strikes have caused fuel shortages and price hikes across multiple Russian regions, the attacks have primarily affected gasoline, while the diesel supply has remained largely undisrupted.

To battle the shortages, the Russian government introduced a temporary ban on exporting gasoline and diesel, as well as other petroleum products. The diesel exports ban was first introduced early this year and extended to gasoline producers in July. The diesel ban is currently in effect until the end of September, yet it is likely to be extended further.

Diesel fuel has been more expensive in the US than gasoline for decades and has previously shown tendencies to rise in price at a faster pace. It is integral to the food supply chain, since it is used to power agricultural machines as well as the cargo trucks and trains which deliver the produce. The cost of fuel accounts for between 15% and 30% of the total cost of food in the US, according to various estimates, and the ongoing hike is bound to affect consumer prices.

You guys are the frontier. By any reasonable metric - market share, revenue growth, model capability - the two of you have a duopoly on frontier intelligence. You’ve also claimed the lead is widening because of recursive self-improvement.

I don’t see what you see in the lab. If the unreleased models are scary enough that you think you should slow down, I support your decision to be responsible.

But stop pretending you need anyone else’s permission. Stop pretending antitrust law has to be suspended so you can form a cartel. Stop pretending you need a regulatory approval process that supersedes product liability. Stop pretending METR is independent when it is intertwined with Anthropic’s investors and staff. Stop pretending you need those same evaluators to police competitors who aren’t even at the frontier.

Most of all, stop pretending the motivation to slow down is purely altruistic. You face massive product-liability exposure if your products enable a truly damaging cyberattack. The market already punishes models that behave in unpredictable or unauthorized ways. After the Hugging Face episode, it is simply good business for OpenAI and Anthropic to trade some raw power for reliability and predictability. Call it alignment if you want. It is also just giving customers what they want.

Pacing the frontier would also create breathing room for a more intelligent conversation about regulation than Bernie Sanders’ “shut it all down.” China is very unlikely to join a global agreement, as you know, and that has to be taken into account as well.

So go ahead and pace the frontier. You are the ones setting it. The easiest way not to build superintelligence is for you to agree not to build it. Demanding your preferred regulatory framework as the price of that will look like blackmail of the public and the political system. So just do it.

If you do, you’ll buy goodwill for the next conversation. If you don’t, we’ll know this was just another bid for regulatory capture - or an election-season psyop.

Attack Drone Hits Warsaw-Bound Passenger Train Near Polish Border, Raising NATO Spillover Risk

Western media outlets reported early Sunday that a Russian attack drone struck a civilian locomotive on the Kiev-to-Warsaw route just two kilometers from Poland's border. Whether a false-flag operation or an actual Russian strike, the incident suggests mounting spillover risks near NATO territory ahead of the Northern Hemisphere winter.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said there was no border violation but described the strike as a Russian escalation. Polish authorities identified the weapons involved as Geran-5 jet-powered drones.

Polish railways said the train carried 208 people. Ukraine's railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said an advance warning allowed the crew to respond and that no one was injured. The service was delayed for six hours.

Last month, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that attacks on Europe's borders had intensified, as some intelligence agencies warned of a buildup toward a direct attack by Russia on a NATO member country. Anthropic Bans Israeli Account Over Iran, Gulf Social Media Citizen Profiling

An operation run by or on behalf of the Israeli-Singaporean commercial intelligence vendor S2T Unlocking Cyberspace used Claude models to map, classify, and profile social media users across Iran and the Persian Gulf, according to a threat intelligence report published by Anthropic on 11 September.

The platform recorded the locations of users, sorted them as supporters or opponents of their governments, and grouped populations into six demographic categories covering urban, clerical, military, youth, diaspora, and rural.

Its output was written in formal Arabic and styled as official government communications, with sentiment scores broken down by Gulf nationality alongside recommended counternarratives.

The actor fed the model batches of roughly 25 social media posts at a time and directed it to return each poster's demographic group, location, and political leaning, with confidence ratings attached to every finding.

Anthropic identified a second workstream of more than 255 fabricated social media accounts, which the company said indicated the actor was assembling a stock of fake profiles for later deployment.

In a separate task, the actor directed the model to generate posts for online personas in Persian, Arabic, English, and German, intended to pass as members of both pro- and anti-government Iranian populations.

The company said its findings independently corroborate a February 2023 investigation by the journalism network Forbidden Stories, which documented an S2T surveillance product described in a company brochure recovered from leaked Colombian military files.

Anthropic said the capabilities in that brochure map closely onto the behavior it observed.

Anthropic added that it identified the activity at its pilot stage and found no evidence that later stages of the surveillance chain described by Forbidden Stories were used against real targets before the account was banned.

Israel has invested heavily in cyber capabilities, signals intelligence, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced surveillance - a technological expansion that shifted the balance of its intelligence collection away from recruited human agents.

The official Rapid Response 47 account claimed the foreign-born population fell 2.9 million from January 2025 to July 2026 and declared net migration negative for the first time since the 1930s.

But the graphic came from the Center for Immigration Studies, not a Census population-count release. CIS compared two monthly Current Population Survey estimates: 53.3 million and 50.5 million.

CIS itself gives its July figure a ±1.038 million 90% margin of error. Its endpoint ranges put the estimated decline as low as 763,000.

The CPS samples roughly 60,000 households each month. Census historically relies on the much larger American Community Survey for foreign-born population estimates.

A St. Louis Fed analysis found participation among non-naturalized immigrants fell 16.6% in 2025, far faster than among native-born respondents. Its authors concluded the CPS decline likely overstated actual migration losses.

Immigration plainly slowed. Census still estimated 1.3 million net international migrants through June 2025 and projected 321,000 through June 2026. Brookings found negative migration plausible, but in a far smaller, uncertain range.

A year after Charlie Kirk’s killing, his organization has buried his criticism of Israel to maintain support from the Israel-based International Fellowship of Christians and Jews. With close ties to the Israeli government, the Fellowship is flooding conservative media with paid partnerships.

One year after Charlie Kirk’s killing, The Charlie Kirk Show is distributed by a federally registered agent of Israel and his widow, Erika, has reversed his critical positions on the US-Israeli special relationship.

Now, The Grayzone can reveal that the Turning Point USA (TPUSA) organization he founded is holding faith events sponsored by an Israel-based non-profit with close ties to the Israeli government.

A leaked contract obtained by The Grayzone reveals that TPUSA entered into an agreement with the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) to sponsor a series of ostensibly Christian faith-based summits between 2025 and 2027. Signed on May 16, 2025, the contract committed IFCJ to pay $700,000 to TPUSA over two years. In exchange, the group was to receive a series of promotional benefits including main stage speaking slots for its President, Yael Eckstein, and the distribution of pro-Israel “activism kits” to over 200 college campuses.

Based in Israel and Chicago, Illinois, IFCJ presents itself as a charity which raises money from Christians to assist Jews supposedly suffering from poverty and antisemitism. In fact, it is a fundraising behemoth which is currently on a spending spree, plowing millions into American conservative media while partnering closely with the Israeli government to spread Zionist propaganda.

In a recent interview, IFCJ President Yael Eckstein boasted that her organization effectively supplements the Israeli state: “We’re a non-governmental organization, but we effectively distribute the aid so well that the government of Israel asks the Fellowship to build projects for them during times of emergency.” As an example, she pointed to IFCJ providing “bulletproof helmets and flak jackets” to first responders in Dimona during Israel’s war with Iran this year.

The IFCJ’s contract with TPUSA was inked in the midst of a severe crisis at the house that Charlie built. At the time, Kirk was publicly anguishing over the increasingly onerous demands of those he described as Jewish “stakeholders,” who were threatening to pull their support for TPUSA unless he stopped providing space at his events to conservative critics of Israel like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly.

“It’s all of the sudden: ‘oh, Charlie: he’s no longer with us.’ Wait a second—what does ‘with us’ mean, exactly? I’m an American, okay? I represent this country,” he fumed to Kelly during an August 6, 2025 podcast.

Kirk had also become an outspoken opponent of US-Israeli plans to wage war on Iran.

As The Grayzone revealed, TPUSA’s largest donor, Robert Shillman, denounced Kirk’s criticisms of Israel at a private gala just four days before his killing, and announced that he’d withdrawn $2 million in contributions. By this point, Kirk had rejected a separate offer of Israel-directed donations to TPUSA, and refused a personal request from Netanyahu to visit Jerusalem.

The $700,000 contract with IFCJ demonstrates how much TPUSA had on the line when Kirk was killed. According to the agreement, that funding helped TPUSA hold three major faith-based events, and will continue to underwrite summits of “believers” and pastors through 2027.

The Grayzone asked IFCJ communications director Elizabeth Gartman about her group’s relationship with TPUSA. While acknowledging that “we’ve sponsored some things with them in the past,” Gartman declined to answer questions about the contract.

IFCJ is currently listed as a sponsor of TPUSA’s 2026 “Make Heaven Crowded” tour, which stirred controversy when a photo appeared on social media showing a giant Israeli flag hanging over the stage at an event at Cielo Vista Church in El Paso, Texas on August 29. Amid criticism from the conservative grassroots, TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet claimed, “The church put [the Israeli flag] up all on their own. We don’t micromanage churches, especially when they’re gracious enough to host us.”

Former British PM Boris Johnson Evacuated From Ukraine Train After Russia Drone Strike: Reports

Boris Johnson was reportedly forced to evacuate from his train travelling from Ukraine to Poland after the rail line was struck in a Russian drone strike.

According to reports, Mr Johnson was returning from the YES international security conference in Kyiv when he and others were woken up on their train at around 5am local time on Sunday morning by guards after another train was struck on the line ahead near Volyn, near the Polish border.

London’s Daily Telegraph reported that the former prime minister was unharmed and that there were no casualties as a result of the attack.

Johnson has long stood as one of Ukraine’s top international allies, with the British politician taking an early hawkish stance towards the Russian invasion, including by sending British anti-tank weapons and billions in aid to Ukraine during his time in office.

His staunch support for the Ukrainian war effort won Johnson many admirers in Ukraine, with the former UK leader even having pastries named after him in Kyiv.

A poll published in June of 2022 found that he was the most popular foreign leader in Ukraine, with a 90 per cent approval rating, putting Johnson on par with Zelensky at the time.

In addition to the former UK prime minister, the train was also carrying diplomats and politicians from other European nations, including former Swedish Prime Minister Carl Bildt and German Green MP Robin Wagener, who told Der Spiegel: “These drone attacks are blind terror against Ukrainian civilians and a dangerous escalation in Putin’s war.”

“Russia is becoming more and more unscrupulous and is setting fires right on the border with the European Union and NATO. We must finally set clear limits to this terror,” Wagner added.

The apparent Russian drone strike also reportedly caused alarm across the border, with Polish Air Force fighter jets being scrambled in case drones entered their territory.

Earlier this week, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Russia may soon intensify attacks near European borders in Ukraine in the coming weeks.

“Russia already decided to engage in provocative attacks on border crossing points, for example in Moldova,” he said on Thursday. “We expect similar actions regarding border crossings with Ukraine in other countries as well, including Poland.”

U.S. Secretly Removed Accused Pedophile Diplomat From Britain: Report

American authorities allegedly removed a U.S. diplomat serving in London from the country in a secret operation after he was accused of possessing child porn.

A report from The Sun — Britain’s top circulation newspaper — has claimed that U.S. secret agents carried out a clandestine operation on UK soil without informing local police, seizing an American diplomat from his London flat, taking him to a U.S. air base, and returning him to the United States.

The diplomat was reportedly under investigation after allegedly receiving indecent images of children from his brother. According to the report, American agents received a court order in the U.S. before carrying out the raid on the diplomat’s apartment in Putney, London, on August 25th. An investigation of the flat is said to have confirmed that the diplomat was in possession of the child pornography in question.

The move to remove the unnamed man back to the United States has riled feathers in London given that American officials have no authority to carry out policing operations in the United Kingdom.

A British government source is quoted by The Sun saying: “They should have told Scotland Yard when they carried out the raid, and certainly when they found material. Instead, we think they have taken him to a US airbase and flown him 4,000-plus miles to where his brother was being investigated. We think it was a dawn raid before they then took him to the base in a US military convoy.

“If there are child-abuse crimes, there are possibly other crimes he could have committed. There are fears the Yanks are trying to keep this in-house and it’s a cover-up. And we now don’t know if we’ll ever get him back to face British justice.”

An American diplomatic source reportedly defended the action, saying that the United States “acted decisively” and that if it had not acted swiftly, “there could have been delays and diplomacy that could have gone on for weeks or months.”

It is not the first time that American officials have avoided the British judicial system for crimes allegedly committed in the UK. London has previously raised the alarm over the case of a U.S. fighter pilot, Captain Jacob Wulfson, who strangled a woman in Cambridge. Rather than facing trial in England, Capt. Wulfson was tried on a U.S. air base.

He was acquitted of sexual assault and aggravated sexual contact, but was found guilty of strangulation, for which he received a six-month sentence. Downing Street said that it was “very concerning” that he avoided prosecution in Britain.

Commenting on the latest report, a U.S. Embassy spokesman said: “We are aware of allegations concerning an individual assigned to the U.S. Embassy in London. The United States government expects all personnel to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, and we take these allegations seriously.

“While we can’t comment on the specifics of the case, we quickly informed UK law enforcement and took swift action, and we will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners regarding these allegations.

“The individual in question has been reassigned to the United States in conjunction with an ongoing investigation. The Embassy has informed British authorities of the case.”

In the central West Bank village of Beitillu, Arabic media reported Saturday evening that a 23-year-old Palestinian man was brutally beaten during a settler raid.

The victim was photographed bruised and bloodied in an ambulance as he was evacuated to a nearby hospital.

Additional footage showed settlers armed with clubs walking away from the area after apparently carrying out the attack.

There were no reports of arrests, which are highly rare in cases of settler violence, even though attacks take place on a near-daily basis.

In the northern West Bank, Channel 13 aired footage Sunday it said depicted settler arsonists setting agricultural land alight.

Meet Aleph Farms, the Israeli startup turning cattle cells into steak

From lab experiment to steak: Israeli startup Aleph Farms wins Singapore approval to sell its cultivated beef, bringing lab-grown meat a step closer to restaurant tables and a planned 2027 launch

In 2013, the world’s first lab-grown hamburger was served in London. Made from cattle cells, it cost around €250,000 at the time and was more a proof of concept than a lunch. The idea seemed almost like science fiction: producing real meat without raising and slaughtering an entire animal. A little more than a decade later, one of the companies at the forefront of efforts to turn that idea into a commercial product is Israel’s Aleph Farms, which is attempting something particularly complex: not a burger or a nugget, but a cut of beef resembling a steak.

The Israeli story began at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Prof. Shulamit Levenberg of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering had spent years working in tissue engineering: studying how to make cells grow and organize themselves into three-dimensional tissue, for example to repair muscle or create blood vessels. In 2016, she began conducting experiments growing cattle cells on a plant-based protein scaffold. A year later, The Kitchen, the food-tech incubator of the Strauss Group, entrepreneur Didier Toubia and Dr. Neta Lavon joined the research. From that meeting of tissue engineering and food technology, Aleph Farms was born. Levenberg is a co-founder and the company’s chief scientific adviser, while Toubia serves as CEO.

As early as 2018, Aleph Farms unveiled what it described as the world’s first cultivated beef steak. In 2021, together with the Technion, it also presented a prototype of a thicker cultivated ribeye steak produced using 3D bioprinting. In a 2022 interview with ynet, Toubia explained that the company was not trying to create an exact replica of an existing cut of meat.

“Just as a Tesla is not identical to a gasoline-powered car,” he said at the time, emphasizing that the goal was to create a product with characteristics of its own, aimed first and foremost at people who eat meat.
