189 Children Found, Over 12,000 Arrested In Memphis Task Force Operations

A law enforcement initiative in Memphis, Tennessee, has resulted in 189 missing children being found and the arrest of 12,747 individuals over the past year, with overall crime expected to hit a 25-year low, the White House said on Tuesday.

Arrests made by the Memphis Safe Task Force, a multi-agency initiative established by presidential memorandum in September 2025, include 1,408 known gang members, as well as 1,363 people apprehended for narcotics offenses, 1,276 for firearms violations, 131 for homicide, and 125 for sex offenses, the White House said on the task force's first anniversary.

One of the individuals arrested through the task force's efforts is a 19-year-old who was indicted on May 24 for child-related sex crime charges, including raping a minor, according to a June 10 statement from the U.S. Marshals Service. In January, the Marshals Service also announced the recovery of two siblings and a toddler.

Overall crime in Memphis has declined nearly 36 percent from last year, with significant downturns across several crime categories, including motor vehicle theft, down 57 percent; shoplifting, down 44 percent; robberies, 42 percent; murders, 36 percent; sexual assaults, 28 percent; and aggravated assaults, 26 percent, the White House said.

The presidential memorandum signed by President Donald Trump last year said Memphis was suffering from "tremendous levels of violent crime."

The task force's objectives include ending "street and violent crime in Memphis" through measures such as hypervigilant policing, large-scale saturation of certain neighborhoods with law enforcement personnel, and aggressive prosecution, according to the memorandum.

Riyadh has been generally calling for more urgent support from its allies, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman even recently appealing for President Trump to help militarily in Yemen, but the White House appears to have shrugged it off, not wanting to escalate the Iran conflict and Hormuz crisis into a full regional war and operation.

Has the time come for Pakistan to step up further in support of its Saudi ally? Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif thinks so.

During an interview with Pakistani TV channel Geo News, Asif affirmed that his country remains committed to defending the kingdom, also calling it a duty to protect Islam's holy sites.

"The Mecca agreement applies to us as well, and we will fulfill our duty," Asif said.

"If there is an attack on Mecca, there is no need for an agreement to protect it," he said.

Al Jazeera on Thursday cited the Pakistani defense chief as indicating that "the time has come to implement the Mecca agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye due to recent Houthi attacks." He also described that Islamabad is pressuring Tehran regarding Houthi actions.

Just two days ago, Saudi Arabia accused the Iran-backed Houthi rebels of targeting Mecca with a one-way attack drone. It was said to be headed "toward" the Islamic holy city from Yemen, which however the Houthi military spokesman vehemently denied.

The kingdom called it a 'red line' and sought to garner support and sympathy from external countries. "The security of the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims is a red line, and the Joint Forces Command of the coalition will not hesitate to take the necessary and deterrent measures against the Terrorist Houthi Militia," the kingdom said.

As for Pakistan's Asif, he was cited further as saying, "I don’t think Iran as a state will open another front" - and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to preventing the conflict from expanding. Also per Newsquawk:

Dangerous Escalation: German, French, UK Militaries Ramp Up Flights Near Russian Border

Kremlin sources are sounding the alarm over increasing NATO flights observed flying closely to Russia's border, amid dangerously heightened rhetoric over alleged Russian drone incursions in the Baltics and Poland, as well as accusations of a Russian-backed UAV sabotage campaign in Germany and central Europe.

State media reports, "German, French and UK military aircraft have been spotted flying near the Russian border, according to flight data analyzed by Sputnik on Thursday."

The heightened Western military aerial activity is further described, with the outlet writing, "A German air force aircraft took off from the German Nordholz airfield at around 6:12 a.m. (GMT) and as of 8:50 a.m. it was spotted patrolling over the Baltic Sea."

"A French air force Airbus A330-243MRTT military aircraft was circling in Finnish airspace near the Russian border as of 9:42 a.m., while a UK air force Boeing Poseidon MRA1 patrol aircraft with the call sign RFR7045 was circling near Russia's Kaliningrad Region in Polish airspace as of 10:30 a.m.," the report indicates.

AI giant Anthropic has signed an agreement to operate in a proposed $32 billion mega AI centre on Queensland’s Western Downs, marking the company’s first major infrastructure investment in Australia.

Work on the 725-hectare site near Dalby is expected to begin before Christmas and employ 1500 in construction and eventually 1400 in the operational side of the business.

Dalby has a current population of about 12,800 and the project will provide a massive economic boost to the region with the influx of workers and contractors during construction and the permanent workforce.

Anthropic is at the forefront of the global AI revolution, which Elon Musk says will eventually make money irrelevant, supposedly because AI robots will produce more food, housing, transport, and energy than humans can consume, and goods will be super abundant.

Anthropic has experienced unprecedented growth from annual revenue of $500 million in late 2025 to more than $65 billion currently, fueled by massive enterprise adoption of its Claude AI models that will run out of the facility.

The Federal MP for Maranoa David Littleproud sees the project as a massive boost for the Western Downs economy and is confident that the massive amounts of water and electricity required for the site will be available, including from gas resources near Dalby and solar farms.

The facility will require the equivalent of the output of the Eraring Power Station, comparable to the energy use of roughly 1.5 million average Australian households.

It will be called the Western Downs Digital Park and aims to come online by 2027, with the broader build-out expected to take four to six years.

Unlike the unrealistic Federal Government proposals that aim to restrict new data centres strictly to 100% renewables, the Queensland state government will let the facility draw from a diverse local energy mix, including existing gas-fired power and the Kogan coal-fired power station.

Littleproud says Anthropic is expected to cover full grid-connection costs and go to market for long-term power agreements. Anthropic’s lease agreement at the site remains subject to final approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) and local council planning sign-offs.

Anthropic is heavily backed by tech giants. Amazon has committed to investing up to $33 billion, while Alphabet (Google) maintains a massive multi-billion-dollar stake and tech infrastructure partnership.

Premier David Crisafulli said the project was a direct result of his recent trade mission to the US. “This is a major win that will deliver more jobs, put more energy into Queensland’s grid and drive down power prices for Queenslanders,” he said.

“My meeting with Anthropic during the trade mission was to outline why Queensland was the place to invest, with energy security, locations to invest and a streamlined approvals process to get it right.”

Mr Crisafulli has promised data centre investment will drive down energy costs for consumers, and companies must add energy to the local grid.

The $32 billion complex is actually an infrastructure partnership where Anthropic is the primary anchor tenant.

While the physical facility is being built by Singapore-based developer Zerra DC, Anthropic’s massive capital backing and global user base for Claude are what make anchoring a multi-gigawatt mega-project financially viable.
