Prelude in C-sharp minor
Not sure how good the YT version will sound. Seems like very few pianists can pull this off.
The prelude was so popular that it was referred to as "The Prelude", and audiences would demand it as an encore at his performances, shouting: "C-sharp!" Because of this, Rachmaninoff grew very tired of it and once said: "Many, many times I wish I had never written it."[3][4] He called it his "Frankenstein" (alluding to a creation that got out of control).[5]
Rachmaninoff recorded the piece electrically, on Welte-Mignon reproducing pianos, and on Ampico piano rolls.[citation needed]
The prelude has been arranged for orchestra in several versions. It has been used in many films, and many songs have sampled it.[citation needed][6][7] Several jazz adaptations have been written, including one for Paul Whiteman which Rachmaninoff himself admired.[4] In regards to Mickey Mouse's performance of the prelude in the 1929 animated short The Opry House, Rachmaninoff reportedly told Walt Disney in 1942 "I have heard my inescapable piece done marvelously by some of the best pianists, and murdered cruelly by amateurs, but never was I more stirred than by the performance of the great maestro Mouse".
