Update(1159ET): While very unconfirmed at this early stage, the Houthis have reportedly attacked the Abqaiq oil city in eastern Saudi Arabia this afternoon (local), reports IRNA citing anonymous news sources. Abqaiq is at the heart of of Saudi crude processing, and it has been struck previously in the context of the Saudi-Yemen conflict. However, there have been conflicting reports, with some open-source accounts offering satellite imaging saying there are signs of a large fire at the site:

On apparent crude transit recovery amid continued deep uncertainty, "For now, that reduces fears of an immediate crude shortage and explains why prices can fall even though talks between the US and Iran have made no clear progress," Simon-Peter Massabni from XS.com says. "The market's main question is whether this faster pace of shipments can be sustained through October."

But the UK's Maritime Trade Operations agency has announced more vessel incidents which looked to have happened on Tuesday. Three distinct incident advisories detailing strikes on vessels within the region. The affected ships included a liquefied natural gas carrier and a crude oil tanker, both of which were reportedly impacted by unidentified projectiles - with little other details known.

South Carolina Mom Allegedly Stabs Her Two Kids Over 50 Times, Arrested and Taken for Mental Health Evaluation

Taylor Gosnell, 35, was arrested after allegedly attacking her children with a knife and then leaving them home alone.

Deputies who responded to the scene after one of the children called their grandmother found Gosnell’s children, ages 3 and 6, alive but suffering from severe stab wounds.

Gosnell later returned home while police were still on the scene and was placed in an ambulance, which transported her to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

She has since been jailed and is now facing two counts of attempted murder and an additional weapon charge.

A 3-year-old and a 6-year-old were stabbed around 50 times in their own home, and police say their mother did it.

HOUSTON: Mother Allegedly Shoots and Kills Her 4-Year-Old Daughter After Custody Hearing, Then Turns the Gun on Herself

Investigators believe the mother lost custody and then snapped.

Lt. Larry Crowson of the Houston Police Department said the mother was at the home with her daughter when the shooting happened. The child’s stepfather and a babysitter were also inside. They heard the gunshots and found the two victims. Neither was physically harmed.

Homicide investigators remain on the scene. The mother has not been publicly identified. No charges have been announced yet as she remains hospitalized.

A 4-year-old girl will never start kindergarten. Her father, who, according to local reports, had just been awarded custody, now faces the unimaginable.

Ukrainian drone strike injures 12, mostly students, in Russia – governor

Seven of those wounded in the attack in Bryansk Region are children, Egor Kovalchuk has said

Twelve people, most of whom are students, have been injured in a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia’s Bryansk Region, acting Governor Egor Kovalchuk has said.

The UAV incursion targeted the city of Trubchevsk, sitting on the Desna River in the southern part of the region, not far from the border with Ukraine, Kovalchuk wrote in a post on social media on Wednesday.

“Horrific attack on civilians in Trubchevsk; there are children among the wounded,” he said.

At least seven of those injured were students, with one of the victims being in serious condition, according to the acting governor.

On Monday, Ukrainian drone strikes damaged a railway bridge and tracks at three locations in Bryansk Region, causing several trains to derail.

Part of a bridge collapsed on the Dyatkovo-Lyudinovo rail section, sending ten cars off the tracks, according to Kovalchuk. A separate strike in Unecha District derailed another 18 empty freight cars, A third attack damaged tracks in Navlya District, but did not disrupt train traffic or cause injuries.

Moscow has accused Kiev of deliberately targeting civilians with long-range drones in an attempt to compensate for setbacks on the battlefield, where Russian forces have continued to advance.

One of the deadliest such strikes came in May when several waves of Ukrainian UAVs hit a student dormitory in the Donbass city of Starobelsk, killing 21 people, mostly young women.

Trump and US tech giants sign pact to stop AI from going rogue

Google, OpenAI, Meta, xAI, Anthropic and Nvidia have agreed to introduce new controls and independent audits

The heads of six top US-based AI companies signed a pledge at the White House on Tuesday to introduce stronger controls to ensure that their technology does not go rogue.

The document, titled the White House Accord on Super Intelligence – Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities, was signed by US President Donald Trump, as well as Google’s Sundar Pichai, Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, xAI’s Elon Musk and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.

The signatories agreed that every company developing advanced artificial intelligence models should have “robust internal processes and controls to ensure that their technology behaves as intended and that any issues are promptly identified and resolved.”

The companies pledged to ensure that their models “do not hack or access technical systems in unintended ways” and said they would “empower an internal team to ensure all of the controls, monitoring, and detection are operating as intended, and that any issues are remediated.”

They also pledged to allow independent external audits of their safeguards and designate “an independent committee of the board of directors” to evaluate compliance.

The deal is aimed at addressing concerns among developers and the general public about AI models’ ability to self-improve much faster than expected and a growing number of cases in which they have hacked into external systems without authorization.

KASSAM: Once a Fifth Column Puts Down Roots in Your Country, It Becomes ‘Incredibly Difficult’ to Remove.

The National Pulse Editor-in-Chief Raheem Kassam has warned on Stephen K. Bannon’s War Room show that Britain is now struggling with a deeply embedded “fifth column,” arguing that mass migration, restrictions on speech, and a two-tier justice system have left many Britons afraid to openly challenge the transformation of their communities.

Senate Votes Down Stock Trading Ban #548, H.R.7008, Stop Insider Trading Act.

Legislation aiming to ban members of Congress from insider trading failed to meet the necessary 60-vote threshold Wednesday after Democrats voted against it.

The Stop Insider Trading Act would generally prohibit members of Congress, their spouses and children from purchasing new individual stocks, require public notice before they sell stocks and ban them from purchasing covered investments, which are publicly traded companies or comparable economic interests. The bill will not reach a final vote after failing the procedural vote.

The bill would allow members of Congress to hold onto their existing holdings and sales of those existing holdings require between seven and 14 days of public notice.

Democrats opposed the insider trading bill, which included provisions from the Safeguard America Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Tuesday that the bill was a “fraud” and that Republicans were only pretending to care about insider trading.

“All of a sudden, the GOP is pretending to care about stock trading,” Schumer said during a press gaggle attended by the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Last July, the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee advanced a strong bipartisan bill to ban congressional stock trading. Republicans abandoned this effort. Now they watered down the ban and created loophole after loophole in this sham legislation. Let’s be clear, this bill does not ban stock trading.”

House Democrats argued the provision was a “poison pill” and that the bill did not go far enough. They argued it did not go far enough because it allowed members to keep shares and did not prohibit the president, vice president or cabinet members from trading.

“It doesn’t actually prohibit members from trading stock,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said. “And of course, it didn’t include the president, the vice president and the cabinet. Which is extraordinary, given that during Donald Trump’s first year as president, he’s traded more stocks than every other member of Congress combined.”

ISRAEL CRAFTED U.S. INFLUENCE OPERATION WITH THE GOAL OF AVOIDING FARA

A leaked 2018 ministry memo proposed a U.S. nonprofit with Israeli money, a “control mechanism,” and oral coordination — but no foreign-agent disclosure.

A leaked Israeli government memo laid out the blueprint to keep money, oversight, and strategic direction flowing from Israel into a U.S. influence campaign, while keeping the foreign-agent label off the American organizations doing the work.

The July 2018 memo came from Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs and concerned Kela Shlomo, a state-linked venture formed to fight what the ministry called Israel’s “delegitimization.”

The memo said legal advice had found Kela Shlomo was a “government-controlled entity.” U.S. groups taking its money and instructions could therefore face registration under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA.

The solution was a new American nonprofit. It would receive Israeli funding and a broad “general directive for action,” then select individual projects without the government’s “formal involvement.” The memo stated the design would spare the U.S. entities from registering as agents of Israel.

The ministry did not propose surrendering control. The memo called for a leader who also sat on the Israeli venture’s steering committee. It also preserved performance-based funding, after-the-fact reports, short-term grants, and “informal coordination mechanisms,” including meetings and oral updates.

The Guardian and the Jerusalem Post reported the same leaked memo in 2024. The Guardian reported the initiative later operated as Concert and then Voices of Israel.

FARA exists to expose foreign influence directed at American policy or public opinion. The Justice Department says covered agents must register and disclose their work. This memo shows Israeli officials searching for a structure designed to avoid that transparency while retaining the levers that mattered.

Senate Defeats Effort To Require Report on Israeli Killings of US Citizens in the West Bank

The effort failed in a vote of 47-51

On Tuesday night, the Senate voted against advancing a resolution that would have required the State Department to produce a report on the killing of US citizens by Jewish settlers and Israeli security forces in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

An effort to discharge the resolution failed 47-51, with just one Republican — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) — voting in favor of the measure and one Democrat — Sen. Jon Fetterman (D-PA) — voting against it.

While the vote failed, Responsible Statecraft noted that it received far more support than a similar resolution introduced in January 2024, which failed 72-11.

The new resolution was led by Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Tim Kaine (D-VA), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), and received a total of 25 cosponsors.

“In just over four years, nine American citizens have been killed on the West Bank by violent Israeli settlers or members of the Israeli security forces, and there has been zero accountability,” Van Hollen said in a speech on the Senate floor before the vote, according to The Hill.

The nine US citizens who have been killed by settlers and Israeli security forces include Omar Assad, Shireen Abu Akleh, Tawfic Abdel Jabbar, Mohammad Khdour, Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, Amer Rabee, Sayfollah Kamel Musallet, Khamis Ayyad, and Nasrallah Abu Siyam.

The resolution invoked Section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act, a provision allowing either chamber of Congress to demand a State Department report on the human rights practices of a country receiving US military aid.

It would have forced Secretary of State Marco Rubio to submit to Congress, within 30 days, a report on what information is available about the killings of the nine US citizens, the status of US and Israeli investigations into the killings, the number of US citizens currently held in Israeli prisons, the treatment of Palestinian children in Israeli prisons, and a description of the steps the US government has taken to reduce violence in the West Bank.

Ministers in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government called for increased military action on all regional fronts following what Israeli officials described as an attempted hijacking of a flydubai flight carrying more than 100 Israeli passengers on Wednesday.

Ministers and opposition politicians also praised the Israeli passengers aboard the flybubai aircraft, saying that they saved many lives and potentially prevented a disaster on the scale of 9/11. Netanyahu confirmed that one of the pilots on the flight had carried out a stabbing attack.

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich was the first member of the government to issue a statement after the incident, calling for action to be taken against “whoever tried to crash a plane and murder 180 Israelis. He and every state or terrorist organization that sent him,” he wrote.

He called for Israel to “address the intent and not the results.”

There is currently no evidence suggesting the suspected hijacker had backing from a foreign actor.

Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Producing and Possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – A Callaway County, Mo., man pleaded guilty in federal court for producing and possessing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

Jimmy Joe Culbertson, 68, pleaded guilty before U.S. Chief Magistrate Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr. to two counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Culbertson is a retired police sergeant, who served for more than 24 years.

Through his plea, Culbertson admits to photographing his abuse of two minor children. He also admits to possessing more than 150 CSAM files. Law enforcement located software intended to hide his online activity as well as permanently delete digital evidence.

Under federal statutes, Culbertson is subject to a sentence of up to 70 years in federal prison without parole. The maximum statutory sentence is prescribed by Congress and is provided here for informational purposes, as the sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the court based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley S. Turner. It was investigated by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crimes Taskforce.

On Monday morning it was widely reported that what seemed to be a major planned terrorist attack on an American base in Britain had been narrowly averted.

Five men were arrested on suspicion of terrorist offences near RAF Fairford, the base from which US bombers have attacked Iranian missile sites, on Sunday morning.

The incident was widely reported to be an apparent foiled bomb plot.

Barrels were found in three vans near the base which newspapers suggested may have contained homemade explosives.

Indicating the seriousness of the situation, Prime Minister Andy Burnham held a Cobra meeting on Monday afternoon.
