One of the wackiest Democratic candidates in all of America is inviting widespread ridicule after going online to reveal her Native American name as Election Day approaches.

As TGP readers know, Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is running to represent the state in the U.S. Senate and would make history as the first Native American woman ever elected to the chamber (Sorry, Elizabeth Warren doesn’t count).

But Flanagan has gone viral and invited national ridicule ever since she emerged on the national scene. This includes appearing in a video wearing a hijab while addressing members of the Somali community, gushing about how they’re woven into the “fabric” of the state.

She also boasted about the destruction of a Christopher Columbus statue by a violent leftist mob.

On Tuesday morning, Flanagan went online to reveal her Ojibwe name and its exact meaning before closing with a shot against Trump.

“My Ojibwe name is Gizhiiwewidamookwe, which means ‘Speaks in a Loud and Clear Voice Woman,'” Flanagan wrote on X.

“I’m going to be Minnesota’s voice in the U.S. Senate — not Donald Trump’s.”

As expected, Americans had a lot of fun with the unusual-looking name and also suggested a different Ojibwe word would better describe her.

Missouri Judge LOCKS UP Two Children in Juvenile Detention After They Refuse to Go with Their Mother — Federal Appeals Court Strips His Immunity Defense: “Judges Do Not Do Double Duty as Jailers”

A Missouri judge who ordered two children locked inside juvenile detention cells because they refused to leave a courthouse with their mother has been dealt a humiliating defeat in federal court.

On Tuesday, October 13, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled against Missouri Circuit Judge Eric Eighmy, concluding that his outrageous handling of a family custody dispute violated the children’s clearly established constitutional rights.

The decision, written by Circuit Judge David Stras, upheld a jury’s $10,000 damages award to the children, along with a staggering $326,637.22 in attorney fees and costs.

And the reason for the children’s detention?They simply refused to leave with their mother following a custody hearing.

The parents and their attorneys reached a temporary agreement allowing the children to stay with their mother. However, Kadan and Brooklyn Rockett, who advanced to the semifinals of America’s Got Talent in 2016 with their jaw-dropping magic act and have appeared in Hollywood films,wanted to remain with their father to avoid disrupting their budding entertainment careers.

They were never parties to the case and never entered the courtroom. After the hearing, they argued with their mother in the courthouse hallway.

Judge Eighmy, according to the lawsuit and later findings, removed his robe, intervened, lectured the children on the “evils of Hollywood,” and grew frustrated when they stood firm.

He then personally escorted them to the juvenile detention division, stood by while they removed clothing and belongings, and had them locked in separate cells for roughly an hour.

He threatened to send them into foster care where they would never see their family again. Only after that pressure did the children agree to go with their mother.

The father sued under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 for unreasonable seizure and related constitutional violations. Judge Eighmy claimed absolute judicial immunity, the powerful shield that normally protects judges from personal lawsuits even for erroneous or malicious decisions made in their judicial capacity.

The 8th Circuit, in an opinion by Judge David R. Stras joined by Chief Judge Lavenski R. Smith and Judge Jonathan A. Kobes, rejected that defense for the personal jailing.

In the 12-page ruling in Brooklyn Rockett and Kadan Rockett v. Eric Eighmy, Judge Stras wrote:

“When Judge Eric Eighmy had courthouse officers lock two children in holding cells because they refused to leave with their mother following a custody hearing, he violated their clearly established Fourth Amendment rights.”

The court rejected Eighmy’s qualified immunity defense and dismissed his renewed attempt to invoke judicial immunity on procedural grounds. An earlier Eighth Circuit decision had already rejected his judicial immunity argument concerning the detention.

Stras wrote that the children “were never parties, they never stepped foot in the courtroom, and Judge Eighmy personally locked them up himself. We have been unable to find any case that extends judicial immunity so far.”

The panel stressed that while judges may order an officer or bailiff to escort someone, “judges do not do double duty as jailers.”

Judges possess substantial authority to resolve legal disputes and enforce lawful court orders.But that authority does not give them unlimited power to personally detain people who frustrate them.

Stras delivered another memorable warning:

“In short, rough justice does not trump the Constitution.”

Personally marching the kids to cells, watching them strip down, and returning later to release them took any arguable judicial act “too far.”

After the children prevailed at trial, the jury awarded each of them $5,000 in damages.

The district court subsequently awarded another $326,637.22 in attorney fees and costs.

Eighmy challenged both awards.

The appeals court rejected those challenges, explaining that federal civil rights litigation does not require attorney fees to be proportional to the damages awarded.

The court also dismissed his renewed judicial immunity argument because he had failed to preserve it properly after trial.

The total judgment stands at $336,637.22.

Bank of America was hit with a massive $1.2 billion fine over anti-money laundering violations.

The Treasury Department announced the record enforcement against Bank of America on Tuesday afternoon:

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) assessed a $1.2 billion penalty for the Bank’s failure to mitigate and report priority national security risks, including Chinese Money Laundering Networks and illicit finance along the southwest border.

The OCC assessed a $750 million civil money penalty for the Bank’s deficient and ineffective BSA/AML (anti-money laundering) compliance program.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced an $11.6 million settlement agreement with the Bank over apparent violations of numerous sanctions programs, including on Iran, Russia, narcotics, and global terrorism.

“Financial institutions are on the front lines of protecting our economic and national security,” said Secretary Scott Bessent.

“When a bank of this size fails to meet its anti-money laundering and sanctions obligations, the consequences extend far beyond its own walls, exposing the entire U.S. financial system to significant illicit finance risks,” Bessent said.

“Today’s actions send a clear message that even the biggest financial institutions are not above the law,” Bessent added.

The Treasury Department announced approximately $1.21 billion in penalties against Bank of America overlongstanding anti-money laundering failures and U.S. sanctions violations.

Regulators found the bank failed to adequately investigate trillions of dollars in potentially suspicious transactions despite knowing about significant compliance deficiencies.

The action includes the largest penalty in the history of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the third-largest in the history of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

FinCEN assessed a $1.2 billion penalty against the nation’s second-largest bank, which includes credit for a $750 million civil penalty imposed by the OCC. A separate $11.6 million settlement with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) brings the combined penalties to approximately $1.21 billion.

According to Treasury, Bank of America failed to report more than $5 billion in suspicious transactions on time, including more than $1 billion in activity involving national security risks such as Chinese money laundering networks, fraud and potential trade-based money laundering connected to the southwest border.

Do you think the accountant actually gave the right number the first time, 30 Million Dollars, and then she was forced to disavow because she never would have been able to report where that much money came from?” Trump questioned.

This comes after Omar’s Washington, DC home was raided early on Monday morning in a criminal fraud investigation that is looking at Omar’s immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when she was a teen. Investigators were seen hauling boxes of evidence out of her home yesterday.

Officials believe thatshe may have lied on her papers, constituting fraudulent citizenship. Border Czar Tom Homan and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin have both suggested that she lied and could be deported.

The Trump Administration is now signaling that Omar committed several crimes in addition to fraudulent citizenship.

Judge Jeanine Pirro went on Fox earlier and confirmed that the Justice Department is looking into her finances.

“They got a warrant signed by a federal judge. So, you’ve got the executive branch through HSI going to a federal judge who is cognizant of the Fourth Amendment rights of any target, who said, ‘ you have the right to search this person’s house.,'” she said.

“Based upon that execution of that warrant, we will see what comes of it.”

Pirro added that “there is no question that that judge would not have signed that warrant unless there was probable cause— and probably more than that given the individual that’s involved, and given the fact that we’re in the nation’s capital with judges in the nation’s capital.”

Pirro added that there are “several investigations going on,” suggesting that the civil or criminal immigration issues or financial crimes may be involved.

I can tell you that is the subject of an investigation as well,” Pirro said of Omar’s financial disclosures and $30 million net worth.

Trump responded in a Truth Social post, suggesting financial crimes along with immigration crimes.

Pope Leo diagnosed with lung cancer after undergoing surgery, Vatican says

Pope Leo XIV's surgery confirmed that he has lung cancer, and he had the lower lobe of his right lung removed, the Vatican said Tuesday.

The tests confirmed a diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, the Vatican said in a medical bulletin after the surgery. It said the diagnosis had been suspected by preoperative tests and was confirmed during surgery.

The 71-year-old pontiff was in the operating room for about 3 hours, the statement said. The surgery itself lasted approximately 90 minutes. "The surgery was successful, and there were no complications," the statement said.

"To ensure a radical resection, the lower lobe of the right lung was removed using a video-assisted technique," the Vatican said in a statement. "Intraoperative histological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma, as suspected from pre-operative tests."

According to the Vatican, the pope "regained consciousness normally" following the procedure and was then taken back to his room on the 10th floor of Rome's Gemelli Hospital.

In its statement, the Vatican did not disclose what stage the cancer was in or whether the cancer may have spread. It also did not detail what further procedures the pope may have to undergo.

"The Vatican tends to keep these things under wraps, so there'll be a lot of reading between the lines to try and detect what is the state of the pope's health," Candida Moss, the Edward Cadbury professor of theology at the University of Birmingham in England, told CBS News.

Leo is known for living an active and healthy lifestyle, including swimming and playing tennis, all factors that likely worked in his favor going into the surgery.

Leo had walked into Gemelli Hospital through the main entrance earlier in the day and waved to dozens of well-wishers who had gathered to greet him. The Vatican said the surgery was performed by a team led by Gemelli's chief thoracic surgeon, Dr. Stefano Margaritora.

The Vatican on Monday canceled all Leo's audiences through Oct. 20. There was no word on whether Leo would be able to keep his planned trip to South America next month.

The typical recommendation for a procedure of this kind is to avoid air travel for about three weeks, which would put the pope right up against the start of that trip, which is scheduled for Nov. 6.

Moss told CBS News that Vatican protocol calls for the pope's cardinals and aides to step in and take up many of his duties as needed.

"We should also expect that, inasmuch as is possible, Pope Leo is going to continue to work," Moss said. "We have a long tradition of popes — not just Pope Francis, but also Pope John Paul II, who had Parkinson's for 10 years — who continued to remain as active as they could, and as active in Catholic liturgies as they could, right up until the end of their tenures."

While Gemelli has a specific papal apartment that past popes have used, complete with a private chapel on the 10th floor, Leo will actually be staying in a nearby room since the papal apartment is undergoing renovations, according to the Vatican press office.

The Vatican had announced on Sunday that Leo would undergo surgery after a nodular lesion was found in his lung. A lung nodule is a small abnormal area measuring less than 1.2 inches that sometimes appears on a CT scan of the chest or abdomen. A nodule can be benign or malignant.

"The doctors believe it's best to take action, so, following their advice, I've decided to have surgery to remove it," Leo said in remarks during his Sunday noon blessing. "Thank you for your spiritual support, and I entrust myself to your prayers."

MI5 chief Ken McCallum has urged the public not to exaggerate the impact of alleged Russian attempts to influence the outcome of the UK’s 2016 Brexit referendum.

McCallum’s comments came after some pro-Brexit politicians accused Prime Minister Andy Burnham of questioning the legitimacy of the vote by claiming it was “clear” that Moscow had interfered. Russia has consistently denied seeking to meddle in British domestic politics, including the 2016 referendum.

“There is a really important difference between interference attempted and outcome swayed … It’s quite important to focus on the difference between what may have been attempted and what actually resulted,” the UK spy chief said on Tuesday, as quoted by the Guardian.

McCallum suggested that “Russian trolls”would “be delighted because they are front page news again despite the comparative unimpressiveness of what they do at all points along the journey.”

“I am a little bit anxious that we don’t play into our adversaries’ hands by making these trolls look 10ft tall,” he said.

Without providing supporting data, the MI5 chief claimed that Russian media outlets, including RT and Sputnik, “came in pretty strongly around the referendum,” and that “there was a certain amount of interference attempted through trolls and bots and so forth.”

In 2016, the UK voted to leave the EU despite the government campaigning to remain. The unexpected result prompted Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron to resign.

Appearing on The Rest Is Politics podcast over the weekend, Burnham said, “I asked the question coming to Downing Street, was there interference in the 2016 referendum from Russia? And I’ve had the clear answer that yes, there was.” According to Reuters, he did not provide evidence of the alleged interference attempts.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, who was a leading figure in the Leave campaign in 2016, called Burnham “a liar.”

“There was no Russian interference. And the Russia hoax has run all the way through this,” Farage said.

Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenochaccused the prime minister of having “implied that the referendum result was illegitimate because of Russian interference.”

Following the backlash, the government said Burnham “absolutely accepts the referendum result.”

Majority of EU citizens oppose fast-track membership for Ukraine – poll

A Bertelsmann Foundation survey indicates that a majority of respondents across the bloc oppose granting Kiev an accelerated path to accession

More than half of EU citizens oppose fast-tracking Ukraine’s accession to the bloc, according to a new survey by the Bertelsmann Foundation.

The Germany-based foundation published its latest study exploring the sentiment within the bloc on Tuesday. The study was conducted through the foundation’s Eupinions public opinion research tool this June and sampled 16,795 people across all EU member states, as well as a further 2,153 people in Ukraine.

The latest survey has shown the continuing decline of support for a fast-tracked accession of Ukraineinto the bloc, which has fallen below 50% for the first time since the pollster began measuring the trend. The idea was overwhelmingly supported at the very beginning of the Ukraine conflict, with some 6% of respondents backing it in March 2022. It has declined over the years and now measures only 47%, with 53% opposed to Ukraine’s accession.

The idea of EU enlargement through accepting any new members whatsoever has shown a similar trend. While some 73% supported the expansion in March 2022, now only 48% of respondents spoke favorably of it. In contrast, the idea of joining the EU remains very popular in Ukraine, with some 83% backing it, with the same percentage supporting the general idea of the bloc’s expansion, the poll indicates.

The EU and the Ukrainian citizens have also displayed polar opinions on the potential benefits and implications of the country’s potential accession. Only 36% of Europeans believe Ukraine joining the bloc would create more economic opportunities, against some 74% of Ukrainians thinking so. Moreover, only some 38% of EU citizens expressed readiness to endure “short-term economic costs” for their countries for the sake of Ukraine’s accession, while 67% of Ukrainians said they would accept such hardships to join the bloc.

While joining the bloc has been a key talking point for pro-Western Ukrainian politicians for decades, the process only somewhat picked up after the escalation of the conflict with Russia. Still, the bloc appears to be reluctant to grant Kiev any exemptions and somehow facilitate its potential accession.

Earlier this month, the EU rejected Vladimir Zelensky’s demand that Ukraine be admitted to the bloc by January 2027. Enlargement CommissionerMarta Kos said the deadline was clearly “not possible,” and Kiev must meet all the requirements for the “merit-based” membership.

As previously reported, federal agents raided the DC-area residence of far-left Democrat Muslima Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) early Monday morning as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into her immigration paperwork.

Federal HSI agents arrived at Ilhan Omar’s home at 6 am and removed boxes of evidence.

The Justice Department secured a search warrant for Ilhan Omar’s home amid a years-long investigation into her immigration fraud.

Federal investigators have been probing the immigration paperwork filed by Ilhan Omar’s father.

However,the scope of the federal criminal investigation is much wider than previously reported.

On Monday, the Associated Press and NBC News reported that according to sources, federal investigators were also probing Ilhan Omar’sfinancial records.

US Attorney for DC Jeanine Pirro confirmed this on Tuesday morning during an appearance on Fox News.

Later Tuesday, The New York Times reported that grand jury subpoenas were issued to Ilhan Omar’s family members.

Federal agents investigating Representative Ilhan Omar, Democrat of Minnesota,have issued subpoenas to some relatives as officials scour her family’s history for evidenceof fraud and false statements in immigration paperwork, according to people familiar with the matter.

A sister of Ms. Omar’s, Sahra Noor, received a subpoena, as did at least one other member of her family circle, according to people familiar with the investigation. On Monday, D.H.S. agents executed a search warrant at her home in Washington, carrying out boxes of documents, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss investigative steps.

Ms. Noor, a health care professional and author, did not reply to requests for comment sent by email and made in a call with someone who identified herself as a daughter of Ms. Noor’s.

Democratic candidate has steadfastly refused to support Israel if elected to become the nation’s first Muslim senator

Jewish Democrats at U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed’s alma mater are signing on to a “Nonnegotiable” petition to pressure the former Wayne County health official on his anti-Israel views.

“Shoutout to the students at the University of Michigan who’ve been out on campus collecting signatures for Nonnegotiable!” the group posted to Instagram on Saturday.

“On a campus where Jewish students have faced harassment, threats, and pressure to hid who they are, these students are meeting the moment,” the post read. “These are young Jewish Democrats who were excited to cast their first votes for U.S. Senate this November. Instead, they’re facing an election where, as of now, there’s no candidate they can vote for. So they’re demanding better from our party’s leaders.”

The UM students join a campaign that already includes rabbis, cantors, and synagogue lay leaders that represent about 40,000 Jewish Michiganders, with prominent leaders including UM Regent Mark Bernstein, state Rep. Noah Arbit, D-West Bloomfield, former state Rep. Ellen Cogen Lipton, D-Huntington Woods, and scores of other local current and former officials.

The group are lobbying for El-Sayed, and any other politician that wants its support, to agree to five “nonnegotiables”: Jewish safety, including for Zionist Jews; the right to define their own Jewish identity; Jewish sovereignty in Israel; welcoming full Jewish participation in civic life; and an affirmative vision for a better future in the Middle East.

“These are not high bars. They are commitments President Obama himself made, in word and deed,” the group wrote in a statement ahead of a planned El-Sayed campaign rally with the 44th POTUS on Oct. 24. “We urge him to ask Dr. El-Sayed to make them too, and to welcome Zionist Jews into the coalition that carried President Obama to victory in Michigan – twice.”

The nonnegotiable movement gains steam as El-Sayed has steadfastly refused to support Israel if elected to become the nation’s first Muslim senator.

During a debate with Republican former Congressman Mike Rogers last week, El-Sayed repeatedly refused to answer a question from moderator Rick Albin on whether Israel or Iran poses a bigger threat to America.

“I’m just going to say that that’s a ridiculous hypothetical,” El-Sayed said. “Our ostensible ally in Israel has lobbied us to go to war with Iran. We have watched as Iran has responded by bombing all kinds of countries in the Middle East and then choking off the world’s energy supply.”

“I don’t want to be pushed into a war by Israel, and I don’t want to be in a war with Iran,” he said, going on to argue both countries “have proven dangerous in their own way.”

“One, at risk of attacking us,” he said. “One, getting us into wars we have no business fighting.”

El-Sayed also made it clear he’s a no vote for any funding for Israel’s offensive or defensive weapons.

“I don’t want our tax dollars buying weapons for other countries,” he said. “I don’t know what’s so hard to understand about that. That’s a no.”

Rogers noted at the debate El-Sayed failed to acknowledge “the pain, the terrorism, the rape, the murders” on the third anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel. Rogers, a former U.S. Army lieutenant and FBI agent, told Michiganders he “staunchly” supports “the right to exist for the Jewish state, and the right to defend itself in a very difficult neighborhood.”

Throughout his campaign, El-Sayed has drawn heated criticism for his anti-Israel rhetoric, as well as his alliance with Hamas-supporting streamer Hasan Piker, whom he campaigned alongside on Michigan college campuses in April.

El-Sayed repeatedly targeted the American Israel Public Affairs Committee backing his primary opponent, proud Zionist Congresswoman Haley Stevens, D-Birmingham, refused to comment on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s death in February, worked to justify a Hezbollah-inspired terrorist attack on West Bloomfield’s Temple Israel in March, and could not answer whether Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state when a launched a Jews for Abdul coalition in May.

The nonnegotiable movement isn’t the only Jewish coalition concerned about El-Sayed’s anti-Israel politics.

Even leaders with Jews for Abdul have called out “issues that Abdul has been less than effective in communicating,” as co-founder Steve Gold put it.

“I think there’s three issues … he could do a better job on,” Gold said in a mid-August organizing meeting.

“One is the Israel’s right to exist question, which I think needs to be answered yes, full stop, and then go on to explaining the nuances and the whatever,” Gold said.

“The second thing is his insistence on using the word genocide, with good reason,” he said. “It’s something that makes some Jews to stop as though he is denigrating the significance and importance of the Holocaust, which of course, he is not.”

“And the third is his, uh, statement that all aid to Israel, including things like Iron Dome, should be cut off,” Gold said, noting he’s “just talking about problems … (not) about whether they’re right or wrong or anything.”

“People stop listening when they say Israel doesn’t have a right to defend itself,” he said. “I think those are three things that turn off a lot of Jews.”

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s staff got her birthdate changed officially after being elected to Congress: records

WASHINGTON — Rep. Ilhan Omar’s staff helped get her birthdate changed in public records once the Minnesota Democrat was elected to Congress in 2018, a switch that has since spurred frenzied accusations that she misrepresented her age to secure US citizenship.

The alteration could offer a big clue as to what federal immigration agents were searching for when they raided her DC home Monday: If the congresswoman is actually one year older than she’s claimed to be, that would mean she couldn’t have legally become a US citizen in 2000, critics contend.

Omar’s birthdate had been listed in the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library as Oct. 4, 1981, as well as on reference sites such as Wikipedia and in media outlets like the BBC, for the entire time she served in the state House and for several months into her congressional term.

But the congresswoman’s staff moved to shift the date forward by one year in May 2019 after a video from a political opponent went viral that claimed Omar was fibbing about her age, according to emails reviewed by The Post.

“On May 17, 2019, Library staff were informed by Rep. Omar’s congressional staff that her birth year was incorrect and requested that we change it to 1982,” wrote the director of the Minnesota Legislative Reference Library in an email just days after the change was made.

“Rep. Omar’s congressional staff are working with Wikipedia and with the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress and other sources to correct her birth year on those sites. As of today, the birth year has not been corrected on the two sites I mentioned,” the director added in the May 24, 2019 email.

The legislative reference library director, who did not respond to a request for comment, said in another email that the initial 1981 birth year had been put down because it was “widely available—in Wikipedia and the Biographical Directory–and so we added that birthdate without documentation.”

Reps for the congresswoman’s office and Omar herself have repeatedly denied allegations of immigration fraud.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation,” Omar said in a Monday statement on X.

The Minnesota pol has long claimed that she received what’s known as derivative citizenship through her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, who she said became a naturalized citizen in 2000, five years after coming into the country from war-torn Somalia.

“I became a citizen actually before I turned 18,” she told The Intercept in a September 2018 interview. “My father became a citizen and so I got my citizenship through that process.”

AJ Kern, who came in a distant fourth against Omar in the 2022 House Democratic primary for Minnesota’s Fifth District, said in a phone call Tuesday that“she claims her citizenship narrative is that she derived citizenship through her father when she was a 17-year-old minor.”

“For derivative citizenship, two things have to be true — one, her father had to naturalize; and two, she still had to be a minor — and what I have found is that it’s highly likely that neither of those things are true,” claimed Kern, who later filed a FEC complaint to demand proof of citizenship.

The complaint went nowhere because a judge found it was “the job of Congress to vet their members,” Kern said.

If she lied about her birthdate on any official form — a passport renewal or bank loan application, for example —Omar could be prosecuted, given naturalization fraud has a 10-year statute of limitations.

People familiar with the multi-year, federal criminal investigation into Omar have suggested that she’s being looked at for making false statements on immigration forms.

Asked what Homeland Security Investigations agents may have been looking for, Kern suggested, “her citizenship papers, her father’s naturalization record.”

President Trump boosted Kern’s claims in a December 2025 Truth Social post, and administration officials have consistently mentioned Omar being probed for possible immigration fraud.
