Not long after signing, things quickly deteriorate. On their first tour, the group plays a special show for their label in New York City. The venue is called the Pozo Lounge. Rob drinks heavily with a friend before the gig. In front of the president of the label and fellow label mates and co-workers, Rob falls off the stage twice. He can’t remember words to songs. He flicks off the audience and insultingly says “You made a big mistake signing us.” The show is a debacle; the band quits a few songs in. There’s a conflict between group members.
But this is not the only thing that puts DINK in a negative light in the eyes of the label. Later that evening, Rob and Jeff are at another bar, still drinking. Rob catches eyes with a lady, and advances heavily on her. His aggressive and drunken tactics are repulsive. The woman flees the bar, with Rob in pursuit, shouting misogynist vulgarities. That woman happens to work for Capitol Records.
With the help of manager Mary Stuyvesant, the band is able to make fragile amends the following week. Unfortunately for Mary, she does last very long as DINK’s manager.
