Strozk was counterintelligence. He recognized and spun the Russia narrative directly onto Trump to dirty him up just in case. Could use it to hurt him if he possibly won. He might have been the only one that thought there was a possibility. There was nothing there, or they would have used it during campaign.

It provided cover with the Russian narrative. The ability to spin a negative into this investigation is actually pretty impressive. The dirt in those emails will make much more sense once the CF exposed.
