Catholic Church Found to Have Spent Over $2 Million Lobbying To Block Child Sex Laws

The Catholic Church was caught lobbying against "The Child Victims Act" which would have helped victims of sex abuse more easily seek justice.

In light of the growing pedophilia and sexual assault scandal rocking the Catholic Church, it is important to remember that not very long ago the organization was found paying off a lobbying firm to block bills related to sex crimes against children.

In 2015, the New York State Catholic Conference, contracted the lobbying groups, Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, Patricia Lynch & Associates, Hank Sheinkopf, and Mark Behan Communications to block a bill called the Child Victims Act, which was aimed at making it easier for victims of child sex crimes to come out against their accusers. The bill also sought to extend the statute of limitations for sex crimes, since many victims are too afraid to speak out until too much time has passed to prosecute.

Between 2007 and 2015, the Catholic church in New York only spent more than 2.1 million dollars lobbying on various bills, mostly related to sex offenses.

This week, the Catholic Church got more bad news, as it was announced that the states of New York and New Jersey were launching investigations into how the church has handled sex crimes within its ranks.

Following the announcement, the New York state’s attorney general sent subpoenas to every Catholic representative in the state, requesting any records that were kept in regards to internal investigations of sexual abuse within the church.

The AG is seeking any and all documents pertaining to allegations, findings from internal church investigations and payments to victims, according to a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly.

Rotherham Grooming Trial: Court Hears Victim Raped by 100 ‘Asian’ Men by Age 16

An alleged Rotherham grooming gang victim was raped by 100 ‘Asian’ men by the age of 16 after she was “passed around” by abusers from the age of just 13, a court has heard.

The girl, named only as Girl B in local media, described how she became pregnant and her childhood was “snatched away” as a result of the abuse she allegedly suffered between 1998 and 2001, in a video interview played at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.

Jurors heard the testimony at the trial of eight ‘Asian’ men accused of sexually abusing five girls between 1998 and 2003, including Tanweer Ali, 37, and Mohammed Imran Ali Akhtar, 37, who are accused of indecently assaulting Girl B on multiple occasions when she was under the age of 16.

She said: “I can honestly say that by the age of 16 I had slept with 100 Asian men – some I didn’t see again. The ones who come and use you for one time are the ones who are hard to remember.”

“I didn’t know at the time I was being passed around when I was 13 but I know now I’m older,” she said.

“As soon as you get to know them your number gets passed around.

“Asian lads demanding to meet you – then you meet a new group and it went on like that,” added Girl B.

Claiming that her sister was also abused by Ali Akhtar, the girl said it felt like their childhood was stolen by their alleged abusers.

“Before, we would just enjoy going on holiday with our granddad but we had advantage taken of us — we were children one minute and adults the next,” she told the court. “We were snatched away.”

The victim told the court she initially disliked Ali Akhtar, but eventually “fell” for the Rotherham-based delivery driver after he allegedly visited her “every day” when he finished his shift in the early hours of the morning, reported the Sheffield Star.

Ali Akhtar and the other men on trial have denied charges which include counts of child abduction, false imprisonment, indecent assault, rape, sex trafficking, and supplying cannabis.

Sheldon Adelson-backed pro-Israel campus initiative to operate on 80 campuses

An Adelson pro-Israel initiative will operate on 80 campuses, spending six figures per campus – in total, about $8 million to $10 million this school year. Among its activities will be to “recruit influencers” and take them on trips to Israel.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The Maccabee Task Force, the initiative funded by billionaire philanthropist Sheldon Adelson targeting the campus BDS movement, will double its presence to 80 campuses and for the first time will operate in Canada.

In place since 2016, the task force works with pro-Israel students on programs countering activities of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement targeting Israel. Last year it funded programs on 40 campuses chosen because of the intensity of BDS activity on the campus.

The task force sends representatives to campuses and solicits ideas from pro-Israel students and groups on campus, then funds those deemed viable. Its most successful program has been to recruit influencers on campus – including student leaders who might already favor BDS – and send them to Israel on fact-finding tours.

In an interview Wednesday, David Brog, who directs the task force, predicted that 70-75 of the 80 campuses with a Maccabee task force will include Israel trips. For the first time, the task force will operate on four or five campuses in Canada, Brog said.

Maccabee Task Force does not publish its expenditures, but a spokesman said that it spends in the low six figures per campus, suggesting that it will spend at least $8 million to $10 million this school year.

Adelson, a casino magnate, and his wife, Miriam, fund an array of pro-Israel and medical causes. They are also leading donors to Republican political candidates.

Breaking: Massive Turkish Army convoy enters Idlib with large arsenal of weapons

A massive Turkish military convoy entered the Idlib Governorate from the Hatay Province, tonight, opposition activists reported.

According to the Syrian opposition activists, the Turkish military convoy consisted of more than 300 vehicles, including tanks, MLRS launchers, and BMPs.

The Turkish military convoy reportedly entered Syria through the Kafr Losen Crossing; it was heading towards the rebel front-lines in the Idlib and Hama governorates.

Some opposition activists have claimed that the Turkish military was heading to the Idlib Governorate with manpads, which, if true, would mean that they are preparing to down any Syrian warplane flying over their positions.

Turkey appears to not be backing down from the Syrian government forces, despite the fact that the latter is backed by Ankara’s allies: Iran and Russia.

A Stacked Deck: Do we really need the United Nations?

While observing the intensity and proportions of the conflicts that broke out during the past decade, a question that comes to mind is that how can all of this be happening on such a scale, given that there are supposed to be some mechanisms which not only prohibit, but can, in some (rare) cases, even result in entire nations being put under harsh sanctions, merely for just the accusations that certain illegal activities might be committed against other nations or stateless groups of people.

According to the second paragraph of the Article Two of the United Nations Charter, the alpha and omega document of modern-day international law, the entire Organization of the United Nations is based on the principle of the sovereign equality of all its Members. What does the sovereign equality mean? Sovereign equality is a fundamental axiomatic premise of the international legal order. It serves as the basis of other equally important principles, namely the prohibition of force and the prohibition of intervention. In other words: the international law prohibits military intervention in sovereign states by other sovereign states. This sounds nice in theory, but is it actually respected in practice?

Let’s take a look at Syria as an example. Syria is a sovereign state ruled by a government which was approved by the majority of its population. The authorities conformed to all predefined terms and conditions of international law, such as providing the population with all basic needs and rights granted by the ratified conventions, charters and declarations, having established rule of law throughout the entire territory within its legal borders, etc. Nevertheless (and in complete opposition to the international law) Syria was destabilized by bringing thousands of jihadists to the country, as well as by domestic terrorist groups which were funded, supplied and trained by foreign powers. All this was achieved by making strict violations of the international law, ironically by those who consider themselves the world’s greatest guardians of freedom, human rights and democracy.

To the world powers, Syria was basically a hotel than anyone can enter at any time and relax the way he pleases. Other states were making illegal incursions and invasions in and out of the country on countless occasions, ignoring any rule of international law or the fact that Syria still had a stable government that managed to rule the majority of the state’s territory. The international law strictly prohibits intervention by external powers in sovereign states, tolerating it only in the so-called “emergency circumstances”, such as in cases of complete dismantlement of the stable authority, a thing that could pose an impending danger for the rise of criminal or terrorist groups that might exploit the circumstances and violently impose their own rule. In the case of Syria, the UN has done nothing to prevent illegal interventions and acts of aggression against that sovereign country, thus violating its own principles and foundations. Nothing was attempted or planned to prevent the damage to Syria’s sovereignty either.
