Further diggings into the recent notable story about Ohio corruption and indictments against Youngstown city officials and a local developer: The indictments cover a range of the usual graft (bribery, money laundering, records tampering) charges. Mahoning County, at one time the 4th largest steel production center of the US, is but a shadow of itself, with most of the downfall happening throughout the late 70's and early 80's as three of the core steel mills shut down.

Also, Youngstown was, and still is, a region known for mafia activity. Because of the headline making mob murders throughout the 50's and 60's, Youngstown was nicknamed Murdertown, USA. Organized crime infiltration into local businesses, the labor unions, police department and city hall have long been part of the Youngstown story. The rise and fall of Congressman James Trafficant is but one of the legendary stories.

Youngstown is not far from the Cemex plant in Wampum, PA and the adjoining underground storage facility (previous digs many breads back), just across the state line.

The recent investigation and exposure of Catholic priest sex abuse of children throughout PA has emboldened Youngstown church members to uncover their own sordid past.

Even though Youngstown has long been in the grip of the Democratic party, I am of mind to believe that as the 50K idictments are unsealed and high level arrests are made, the people in Youngstown who have long suffered the grip of corruption will awaken to the truth and run (not walk) away from the Democratic party.
