MANCHESTER — Rich Ashooh is planning to make a formal announcement next week on running for Congress this year.

The announcement will come early next week, the Union Leader has learned.

Ashooh has given a 2016 campaign serious consideration over the past month. In 2010, he narrowly lost a Republican primary in the 1st District to Frank Guinta, who went on to win the seat.

Guinta is running for reelection, despite a campaign finance scandal from the 2010 cycle that led to the Federal Election Commission concluding he broke the law by taking more than $350,000 in illegal contributions from his parents. He paid a $15,000 fine and repaid the loan, per a settlement with the FEC.

State Rep. Pamela Tucker, R-Greenland, launched her congressional campaign last month. Dan Innis, a Portsmouth Republican who ran for the seat in 2014, suspended his campaign last week, citing personal and professional factors.

Democrats Shawn O’Connor of Bedford and former U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter of Rochester are also running for the 1st District.

Ashooh, a father of five from Bedford, served as interim executive director of the Warren. B. Rudman Center for Justice, Leadership and Public Service at the University of New Hampshire School of Law from September of last year until earlier this month. He previously worked as director of strategy and planning at BAE Systems, one of New Hampshire’s largest employers.

His civic and community service included time on the board of trustees at the University System of New Hampshire.

Ashooh wrapped up his six-month interim appointment at the Rudman Center on March 18.

Earlier this month, UNH School of Law Interim Dean Jordan Budd was named executive director of the center, which is named in honor of the late U.S. Sen. Warren B. Rudman, R-NH. Budd will continue to serve as interim dean, upon completion of his current term, until a national search for a successor is complete.

North Andover woman who was found dead in her basement last weekend has been charged with her murder, prosecutors said.

The Essex County District Attorney’s Office yesterday obtained a warrant for the arrest of Brian Chevalier, 51, of Merrimack, N.H., in connection with the killing of Wendi Rose Davidson, 49.

The victim’s brother, Brian Davidson, said her funeral was yesterday, and he declined to comment on the murder charge.

My experience with oil & gas and valves is mostly upstream and offshore, but I have some downstream natural gas pipeline experience.

Too improbable to have multiple, simultaneous failures of independendent Safety systems.

● Overpressurization safety system will automatically trip systems to relieve pressure

● Emergency Shutdown systems will automatically trip and shut down compressors

● Blowdown systems will automatically trip and divert excess pressure from the main lines.

"Trip" means to automatically activate, by force. No manual intervention is required. It is difficult but possible to manually override a safety trip.

In this mess of gas explosions in MA is fairly obvious that multiple, independent safety systems failed to operate, at the same time.

Do you have a boiler for a water heater in your house? It has an automatic Blowdown system to release excess pressure so the boiler cannot explode. It is spring operated, and it is automatic. A spring holds a seal in place against a small blowdown opening. If the pressure exceeds the rated capacity of the boiler, it is sufficient pressure to push the spring open and allow pressure to vent out of the boiler, until the pressure drops back to normal, and the pressure is no longer enough to push the spring in an open position. This is a simple physical example of an overpressure Safety system, which is independent of the operating system.

Example of Emergency Shutdown valve system. The Emergency Shutdown (ESD) valve is held open by standard 80 psi instrument air, which is provided by separate 1/4" stainless steel tubing. The instrument air is provided by the compressors which provide 80 psi instrument air throughout the plant. If the instrument air fails (compressor stops due to fire, explosion, electrical failure, etc) then the compressed springs which are held open by the 80 psi instrument air are tripped and the compressed springs force the valve to close, shutting off the flow of oil and gas.

Think of the trigger on a gun. Once the compressed spring is tripped, the trigger moves forward from the open to the closed position, which also strikes the bullet.

US Biological Warfare Program In The Spotlight Again

This is a scoop to bring the US biological warfare effort back into the spotlight. On Sept. 11, Russian media reported that the Richard Lugar Center for Public Health Research laboratory, a research facility for high-level biohazard agents located near Tbilisi, Georgia, has used human beings for conducting biological experiments.

Former Minister of State Security of Georgia Igor Giorgadze said about it during a news conference in Moscow, urging US President Donald Trump to launch an investigation. He has lists of Georgians who died of hepatitis after undergoing treatment in the facility in 2015 and 2016. Many passed away on the same day. The declassified documents contain neither the indication of the causes of deaths nor real names of the deceased. According to him, the secret lab run by the US military was established during the tenure of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. The viruses could spread to neighboring countries, including Russia, Igor Giorgadze warned.

The laboratory’s work is tightly under wraps. Only US personnel with security clearance have access to it. These people are accorded diplomatic immunity under the 2002 US-Georgia Agreement on defense cooperation.

Eurasia Review reported that in 2014 the Lugar Center was equipped with a special plant for breeding insects to enable launching the Sand Fly project in Georgia and the Caucasus. In 2014-2015 years, the bites of sand flies such as Phlebotomins caused a fever. According to the source, “today the Pentagon has a great interest to the study of Tularemia, also known as the fever of rabbits, which is also equated with biological weapons. Distributors of such a disease can be mites and rodents”.

The US military operates the Central Reference Laboratory in Kazakhstan since 2016. There have public protests against the facility.

McRaven resigned from Pentagon board days after criticizing Trump

Washington (CNN)Retired Admiral William "Bill" McRaven, the former head of Special Operations Command resigned from the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Board last month, just days after issuing a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump's decision to revoke the security clearance of former CIA Director John Brennan, the Pentagon confirmed Thursday.

"I can confirm that Admiral (ret) William H. McRaven resigned from the Defense Innovation Board, effective August 20, 2018," Pentagon spokesperson Heather Babb told CNN in a statement. "The Department appreciates his service and contribution on the board."

The Defense Innovation Board serves as an independent advisory committee to the Pentagon specializing in issues related to technology and innovation. McRaven's picture has been removed from the group's website.

While his departure was first reported by Defense News on Thursday, the Pentagon confirmed that McRaven officially resigned last month, just four days after he authored a blistering op-ed in the Washington Post slamming Trump's decision to revoke Brennan's clearance.

Status Conference: Someone is about to take a plea deal – another superseding indictment coming – Frank Parlato “terrifying” NXIVM members seeking to bail Raniere

During today’s Status Conference for USA v Raniere et al., in the Federal Courthouse for the Eastern District of New York in Brooklyn, a few revelations were made.

The hearing was at 2 pm and lasted more than an hour.

Most significant perhaps is that Assistant US Attorney Moira Penza informed the court that one of the defendants in the case is about to take a plea deal. She did not name which defendant this might be.

The defendants are Keith Raniere, Clare Bronfman, Nancy Salzman, Lauren Salzman, Allison Mack and [fall girl] Kathy Russell.

Using a process of elimination, common sense and some courtroom observation, it is evident it is not Keith Raniere or Clare Bronfman who have chosen to cut a plea deal and escape further prosecution.

Whoever it is will likely have to testify against Raniere and others.

The other interesting fact – although it does not come as much of a surprise – is that Penza told the court there is likely to be another superseding indictment coming in the near future – which will charge some or all of the present defendants with additional crimes and possibly add new defendants to the group already charged.

Nancy Salzman was the only defendant absent from court – due to – it was said – recent surgery.

A very gaunt Lauren Salzman sat directly across from Keith at the defendant’s table, yet made no eye contact with him. She turned sideways and avoided looking directly at the man who promised her an avatar baby more than a decade ago.

Raniere himself was dressed in his brown prison garb – which was described once by former NXIVM member Barbara Bouchey as a virtual cloak of many colors and by Toni Natalie as a shit brown jumpsuit.

Allison Mack – also in attendance – refused to look at her Slave Master, Raniere. Instead she looked down at the floor or at the judge through most of the hearing.
