The only logical explanation that I can think of for the explosions, seemingly random but timed, would be smart appliances.
I should add that I am talking about Natural Gas run appliances like dryers, fridges and remotely controllable HVAC items.

Tha's what I was thinking. It would be a simple hack to get into it. If you knew what you were doing it would just be a matter of overriding the program to say, turn off the pilot light and hold the sensor that looks for it. No change in input from the sensor would allow the gas to flow free.
