Central Banks Have Gone Rogue, Putting Us All at Risk

Central bankers are now aggressively playing the stock market. To say they are buying up the planet may be an exaggeration, but they could. They can create money at will, and they have declared their “independence” from government. They have become rogue players in a game of their own.

Excluding institutions such as Blackrock and Vanguard, which are composed of multiple investors, the largest single players in global equity markets are now thought to be central banks themselves. An estimated 30 to 40 central banks are invested in the stock market, either directly or through their investment vehicles (sovereign wealth funds). According to David Haggith on Zero Hedge:

Central banks buying stocks are effectively nationalizing US corporations just to maintain the illusion that their “recovery” plan is working . . . . At first, their novel entry into the stock market was only intended to rescue imperiled corporations, such as General Motors during the first plunge into the Great Recession, but recently their efforts have shifted to propping up the entire stock market via major purchases of the most healthy companies on the market.

The US Federal Reserve, which bailed out General Motors in a rescue operation in 2009, was prohibited from lending to individual companies under the Dodd-Frank Act of 2010; and it is legally barred from owning equities. It parks its reserves instead in bonds and other government-backed securities. But other countries have different rules, and today central banks are buying individual stocks as investments, with a preference for big tech stocks like Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft. Those are the stocks that dominate the market, and central banks are bidding them up aggressively. Markets, including the US stock market, are thus literally being rigged by foreign central banks.

The result, as noted in a January 2017 article on Zero Hedge, is that central bankers, “who create fiat money out of thin air and for whom ‘acquisition cost’ is a meaningless term, are increasingly nationalizing the equity capital markets.” At least they would be nationalizing equities, if they were actually “national” central banks. But the Swiss National Bank, the biggest single player in this game, is 48% privately owned; and most central banks have declared their independence from their governments. They march to the drums not of government but of big international banks.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the 2008 collapse, former Fed chairman Ben Bernanke and former Treasury secretaries Timothy Geithner and Henry Paulson wrote in a September 7 New York Times op-ed that the Fed’s tools needed to be broadened to allow it to fight the next anticipated economic crisis, including allowing it to prop up the stock market by buying individual stocks. To investors, propping up the stock market may seem like a good thing; but what happens when the central banks decide to sell? The Fed’s massive $4 trillion economic support is now being taken away, and other central banks are expected to follow. Their US and global holdings are so large that their withdrawal from the market could trigger another global recession. That means when and how the economy will collapse is now in the hands of central bankers.

SDF Advances Around Two ISIS-held Villages In Euphrates Valley

On September 15, the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) captured 7 positions in the vicinity of the town of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, in the southeastern Deir Ezzor courtside, following heavy clashes with ISIS fighters, according to the SDF’s media center.

US-backed forces also advance 2km towards the town of al-Susah, north of al-Baghuz al-Fawqani, and captured 9 new positions. 16 terrorists of ISIS were reportedly killed during the clashes around the two towns.

Direct Hit: Super Typhoon Mangkhut To Strike Two China Nuke Plants

Two nuclear power plants are in the track of deadly Super Typhoon Mangkhut, which is projected hit mainland China as early as Sunday.

Emergency response teams have been briefed on the storm as it approaches the Taishan Nuclear Power Plant and the Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station, both in Guangdong province, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported Saturday.

"All emergency personnel are at their posts and have conducted their preparatory work. The Taishan plant is fully prepared for the typhoon, and everything is in its place," Chinese officials stated, according to SCMP.

The Taishan plant is about 135 kilometers south of Hong Kong while the Yangjiang plant is some 230 kilometers west of Hong Kong.

Yangjiang plant manager Chen Weizhong said on Chinese messaging app WeChat that "all departments must attach the highest level of importance to this and adhere to high standards to strictly ensure the preventive measures are implemented."

Officials in China are trying to avoid another Fukushima-like disaster. In March 2011, a tsunami resulting from a 9.0 magnitude undersea earthquake caused Japan's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant's power supply and emergency generators to fail. Due to the power failure, meltdowns occurred in three reactors, resulting in the release of large amounts of radioactive material into the groundwater and subsequently into the ocean.

A Yangjiang resident recently told SCMP that she had stocked up on food supplies in preparation for the typhoon.

"I am scared," she said. "Even though Yangjiang has typhoons every year, this time it is very strong. I bought some vegetables that can be kept for a few days."

However, another resident, who runs a tea shop, is not worried about the typhoon.

"We're not worried because even if the typhoon is strong, the Yangjiang nuclear plant will take the appropriate measures to ensure it is secured."

"The sun is shining outside. Customers are not talking about the typhoon, they said it is very hot and asked us to turn the air conditioning up," the resident added.

Mangkhut is currently barrelling through the Philippines — where it killed 16 according to early reports — and is predicted to reach the Chinese mainland Sunday.

According to the China Meteorological Administration, the typhoon maintains a yellow alert, the second-highest level on the typhoon scale.

New Jersey - Female Gang Robbed Banks Dressed As Nuns

A Connecticut woman devised what she thought would be a smart tactic- committing crimes by pretending to be a person unlikely to be suspected of doing illegal things- a nun. But the woman’s month-long crime spree is over as she has been busted, arrested and will soon be in jail.

20-year-old Swahilys Pedraza-Rodriguez was sentenced to a 15-month prison time on Thursday.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty in June to robbing a bank in Garfield, New Jersey with another female accomplice where they disguised as nuns. The pair wore a head covering and conspired to steal money from an ATM located at a Scotrun, Pennsylvania bank. They were also armed with black guns then to match their nun outfits.

Rodriguez’s accomplice, identified as 24-year-old Melissa Aquino Arias of Passaic, New Jersey received a 37-month sentence on Wednesday.

It is likely that Rodriguez, from New Haven, received a shorter sentence than Arias because she pleaded guilty.

The nun-pretending women during their criminal activities were arrested in October last year, almost two weeks after their brazen Garfield robbery, when they went to a Teaneck bank and inquired about opening an account.

An alert employee recognized them and called the police immediately. The FBI after the crimes were committed posted surveillance photos on Twitter of the pair. It is likely that the quick-thinking employee recognized the pair from such photos.

Cartel Hitmen Dressed as Mariachis Shoot Bystanders in Mexico City Tourist Plaza

Three cartel hitmen dressed as mariachis sprayed gunfire in one of Mexico City’s most popular plazas. Casualty reports range from three to five victims killed — as many as seven others were injured.

The attack took place in Mexico City’s Plaza Garibaldi, an area visited primarily by tourists looking for mariachi performers. According to preliminary information released by Mexican authorities, three gunmen dressed as mariachis arrived at the Plaza riding on motorcycles. They began firing directly into the crowd.

Soon after the attack, law enforcement investigators collected approximately 50 shell casings ejected from the weapons the gunmen used while firing into the crowd. Authorities have not revealed how many of the shooting victims were innocent bystanders and how many were intended targets.

Law enforcement sources in Mexico City have revealed to Breitbart Texas that the attack is tied to a turf war between the dominant cartel called “La Union de Tepito” currently led by David “El Pistache” Garcia Ramirez and a splinter of the cartel led by Sergio “El Tortas” Flores Concha who labeled themselves as the “Anti-Union”.
