JPM Is Worried That Trump Is Getting So Cocky, He Is About To Make A "Major Miscalculation

It has been one of the pronounced paradoxes of this market: the harder Trump pushes and escalates trade wars with various opponents - mostly China - the more the market rewards him by setting new all time highs, leading the president to believe he is "winning" and resulting in even more aggressive future escalations. Perhaps as a result, earlier today Goldman said that following Trump’s threat of further escalation in the trade war with China, the bank now thinks the probability that all imports from China will ultimately be subject to tariffs has risen to 60%.

New Yorker: Brett Kavanaugh Exposed Himself at Freshman Party; Kavanaugh Denies

The New Yorker reported a new accusation Sunday evening against Judge Brett Kavanaugh: that as a college freshman at Yale University, a drunken Kavanaugh “exposed himself at a drunken dormitory party,” and that when she tried to push him away in her drunken condition she accidently touched his penis.

The article, by Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer, comes hours after Christine Balsey Ford agreed to testify Thursday about an allegation that Kavanaugh groped her in high school.

Kavanaugh denies the allegation, in a statement reported by the New Yorker: “This alleged event from 35 years ago did not happen. The people who knew me then know that this did not happen, and have said so. This is a smear, plain and simple. I look forward to testifying on Thursday about the truth, and defending my good name–and the reputation for character and integrity I have spent a lifetime building–against these last-minute allegations.” The White House called it “the latest in a coordinated smear campaign by the Democrats designed to tear down a good man.”

Farrow and Mayer admit that Deborah Ramirez, the woman making the accusation, acknowledges being drunk at the party where she alleges the incident occurred, and that “her memories contained gaps.” They also note: “The New Yorker has not confirmed with other eyewitnesses that Kavanaugh was present at the party. The magazine contacted several dozen classmates of Ramirez and Kavanaugh regarding the incident. Many did not respond to interview requests; others declined to comment, or said they did not attend or remember the party.”

One classmate of Ramirez, who declined to be named, said that he was told later about the party and that he remembered being told that Kavanaugh had behaved as described. Others had apparently also heard similar stories but not the names of those involved.

However, a woman who described herself as Ramirez’s best friend at the time told the New Yorker that she never heard about the story: “I was never told this story by her, or by anyone else. It never came up. I didn’t see it; I never heard of it happening.”

Farrow and Mayer also explore other allegations about wild behavior involving “Kavanaugh and his social scene,” without connecting him to further allegations.

They note that Kavanaugh had previously told the Senate Judiciary Committee, in response to a standard question from Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) that he had never committed any sexual misconduct as a “legal adult.” Kavanaugh would have been 18 at the time of the alleged incident.

Teen Dies After Triple Shooting in Gun-Free London

A teenager has died and two more injured after a deadly shooting in east London, sparking a murder probe and continuing London’s bloody crime wave.

Officers were scrambled and friends rushed the 19-year-old man to the hospital after the incident in Walthamstow, at about 11 pm on Saturday, police said.

They said they “believe they know his identity, but await formal identification and confirmation that next of kin have been informed”. No arrests have been made.

A 17-year-old boy and a 24-year-old man were also seriously injured in the shooting. However their injuries are not life-threatening, the Evening Standard reports.

A resident who lives in a flat overlooking the crime scene said he woke up to find police vehicles and officers blocking off both ends of Vallentin Road.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: “It is just sad.

“A shooting is horrible. I feel saddened for the family but I guess this sort of thing can happen anywhere now these days.”

The gun death comes less than a day after a young man, 20, was killed in a “senseless” stabbing at a house party in north-east London.

The victim, named online by his DJ name Nana Banger, was fatally stabbed at an 18th birthday party in Stamford Hill.

A 17-year-old male also suffered from stab wounds and a 24-year-old male was found with a head injury. Both were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Packer from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, commented:

“Another family has been left devastated by the senseless loss of a young life to knife crime, and we’re doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.

“What we know so far is that all three of these victims appear to have been attending a large house party at the address on Wilderton Road.

“I want to hear from anyone who was at that party, even if they didn’t witness the assaults, they may have some information that could help us piece together the course of events that led to this tragedy.”

Trump on Rosenstein: 'He Was Hired by Jeff Sessions'

US President Donald Trump has given his first detailed public comment concerning a report on Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s alleged proposal to secretly record the president last year.

The president quickly shifted his focus to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, declaring that Rosenstein was hired by the AG and that Trump had nothing to do with the deputy attorney general’s appointment, according to Fox News.

The question was raised because Trump announced on January 31, 2017, that he would nominate Rosenstein to be the deputy attorney general.

“I was not involved in that process because, you know, they go out and get their own deputies and the people that work in the department,” Trump said, cited by the Hill.

The president’s remarks came a week after an interview in which Trump — perhaps decrying a lack of lockstep loyalty from the AG — asserted that he didn't have an attorney general, while declaring that he had chosen Sessions, a former Republican Senator for Alabama, out of an assurance that loyalty would be the most important job requirement.

Sessions came under fire from Trump after the AG recused himself from overseeing the ongoing investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election – a probe now overseen by Rosenstein. However, the deputy attorney general was recently criticized by Senator Lindsey Graham who suggested Rosenstein should appoint a special counsel to investigate FBI's actions, trying to "destroy the President", Sunday News reported. "If Rosenstein’s involved, he should be fired. If he’s not involved, leave him alone," Graham said.

Trump referred to the Rosenstein allegations as “a very sad story” and has promised to “make a determination” about how to proceed.
