How to Stop Trump’s Slow-Motion ‘Saturday Night Massacre’

If Trump removes Rod Rosenstein, Congress must overcome obstruction and keep the executive in check.

Trump, a president who seems more Nixonian than Nixon himself, may be plotting a plodding—but no less constitutionally corrosive—Saturday Night Massacre. After The New York Times published an explosive report that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein had perhaps entertained the idea of organizing an effort to remove the president—utilizing the 25th Amendment to the Constitution—there has been speculation that Trump will remove Rosenstein. That may not happen immediately, as the Deputy Attorney General has denied the report and scrambled to keep his job. But every time Rosenstein heads for the White House, as he will do again Thursday for a meeting with Trump, there is speculation about the possible removal of the man who oversees Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into wrongdoing by the Trump campaign and a variety of related matters.

In a Justice Department where Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from decisions regarding the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election, the removal of Rosenstein would almost certainly shift authority over the Mueller probe to an official who could fire the prosecutor and end an inquiry that the president decries as a partisan “witch hunt.” “If [Rosenstein] is fired it could look like it is a part of the obstruction of justice that continues,” explains former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks. “It could look exactly like the ‘Saturday Night Massacre’ taking place over a protracted period of time.”

Trump attacks second Kavanaugh accuser: 'She admits that she was drunk'

"The second accuser has nothing," Trump told reporters during a meeting with the Colombian president at the U.N. General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

"She thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not. She admits that she was drunk. She admits that there are time lapses," the president said.

Trump claimed that allegations from Ramirez and Christine Blasey Ford are part of a "con game” by Democrats against his Supreme Court nominee.

Brett Kavanaugh has exposed the true depravity of the Democrat abortion cult

September 25, 2018

Christine Blasey Ford has been abused by Feinstein and the other Democrats. Whether or not her allegations are true, Feinstein’s decision to hide them until an opportune moment for someone to leak them to the press was nakedly political. A genuine pursuit of truth would have required vetting the allegations when they were made and allowing senators to make up their minds and vote according to their consciences without subjecting Ford and Kavanaugh to trial by pornographers and pinheaded pundits on cable news.

The GOP was trapped between defending the institution of the Senate and earnestly seeking the truth. Republicans erred on the side of goodwill. They ought to have refused to even consider hearing misconduct allegations brought to light in this manner and moved on with a vote. They should have set a precedent that such allegations must be dealt with immediately when submitted to the committee, or they won’t be considered at all, to protect future confirmations from spurious “he said, she said” allegations brought forward at the eleventh hour.

Sen. Chris Coons: Burden of proof lies with Brett Kavanaugh to prove his innocence

The Washington Times - Tuesday, September 25, 2018

Sen. Chris Coons, Delaware Democrat, drew double-takes on the right Monday after insisting that the burden of proof lies with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to prove his innocence.

Ms. Coons said that Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez “have nothing to gain” and have put themselves “at legal risk” by accusing Mr. Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct in his teen years.

“It is Judge Kavanaugh who is seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court and who I think now bears the burden of disproving these allegations,” said Mr. Coons in a Monday interview on MSNBC, “rather than Dr. Ford and Deborah Ramirez who should be dismissed with slanderous accusations.”

Townhall.com’s Guy Benson called the argument “just wild,” while the Media Research Center blasted it as the “Dem idea of justice.”

Romney opposes Utah's Medicaid expansion ballot measure

The measure would combine roughly $90 million in state revenue — through a 0.15 percent sales tax increase — with $800 million in federal funding. Opinion polls suggest about 60 percent of the public favors expansion.

Romney said he thinks the state’s plan is better than the ballot measure.

“What the state has arrived at is a better way,” Romney said.

Romney’s comments stand in contrast to his Democratic opponent Jenny Wilson. She told the Tribune she supported full expansion “from Day One,” and that Utah’s communities would be healthier today if the state had moved forward sooner.

VPOTUS, layin' it down…

News reports today that the Maduro regime moved military troops to the border of Colombia—an obvious effort of intimidation. Let me be clear: the USA will always stand with our allies. The Maduro regime would do well not to test the resolve of @POTUS or the American people. #UNGA
