Israeli Army Registers Launch of Rocket From Gaza Strip

The Israeli army registered on Wednesday a launch of a rocket from the Gaza Strip that resulted in a sounding siren in the city of Be'er Sheva, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement.

The sound of the siren called on more than 200,000 residents of Be'er Sheva to find a shelter amid the rocket fire.

"A launch [of a rocket] from the Gaza Strip aimed at hitting the Israeli territory has been registered," the statement said.

There are no reports about any victims or damages caused by the rocket fire.

Tensions between the Israelis and Palestinians on the Gaza border have been mounting since late March, which marked the start of a wave of protests called the Great March of Return.

G7 FMs Call for Punishing Everyone Responsible for Khashoggi Disappearance

G7 member states’ foreign ministers are calling for punishing everyone responsible for the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, the joint statement said.

“We remain very troubled by the disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Those bearing responsibility for his disappearance must be held to account. We encourage Turkish-Saudi collaboration and look forward to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia conducting a thorough, credible, transparent, and prompt investigation, as announced,” the statement said on Tuesday.

The G7 foreign ministers as well as EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini have also affirmed their commitment to protecting the freedom of expression and free press.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist, went missing on October 2. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul where he went to receive papers he needed to remarry.

Turkey has expressed concerns that Khashoggi could have been murdered inside the building, while the Saudi government has denied involvement in the case, claiming that the journalist disappeared after he left the consulate.

On Tuesday, the NTV broadcaster reported that the Turkish police had found evidence during their authorized search of the Saudi Consulate showing that Khashoggi had been murdered there.

Saudi Consul General in Istanbul Mohammad Otaibi has left Turkey for Riyadh amid the growing scandal around the disappearance of Khashoggi.

Rocket fired at Beersheba from Gaza hits house; no injuries reported

IDF says it identified a single launch from Gaza; projectile lands in courtyard of home; five people, including a mother and three children treated for anxiety

Palestinian terrorists in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at the southern city of Beersheba early Wednesday that landed and exploded in the courtyard of a house, causing damage, but no injuries.

The IDF said it had identified a single launch from Gaza targeting the city located some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Strip.

Rocket attacks on the city are rare and considered a major escalation. The attack came after Israel’s defense minister warned the military was gearing up for a major strike on Gaza to stop ongoing violence.

Rocket warning sirens blared at 03:40 am and residents reported hearing a loud blast. The rocket landed in the courtyard of a private house. No one was hurt in the explosion but five people were being treated for anxiety.

A Magen David Adom medic said among those treated were a mother and her three children. The woman had lightly hurt her head when she fell running to the bomb shelter when the siren went off, he said, adding that they were taken to hospital.
