The trips could've been internal control system metric spoofs to allow the transformers to overload and THAT would take them out for a chunk.

Remember STUXNET did something similar by spoofing the Iranian covert centrifuge speed controllers and overrevved them, destroying them permanently.

The trips might be a YouTube, et al.. censorship 'failure to heed' takedown.
