There might be two sources, as it appears:

One is the Turks illegally wired the embassy

The second might be his (Apple?) watch, linked to his phone which his wife had outside waiting for him.

She was instructed by him to contact turkish authorities in case he didn't return after two hours (which she did after those were over).
