WASHINGTON – More than 1 million copyright-infringing website domain names selling counterfeit automotive parts, electrical components, personal care items and other fake goods were criminally and civilly seized in the past year through the combined efforts of law-enforcement agencies across the world, high-profile industry representatives and anti-counterfeiting associations.

The ongoing intellectual property enforcement initiative targeting fake websites, dubbed Operation In Our Sites, was facilitated by the National Intellectual Property Rights Coordination Center (IPR Center), a joint-task force agency led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The IPR Center, which stands at the forefront of the U.S. government’s response to IP theft, worked directly with key international law-enforcement authorities and industry organizations representing the electronics sector, luxury brand-name designers, film and entertainment and several entities specializing in apparel and accessories through the major enforcement effort.

Macron worries about 'war scenes' in Paris during protests

Paris (AFP) - French President Emmanuel Macron likened images of the rioting on the Champs-Elysees at the weekend to "war scenes" on Monday, as dozens of protesters appeared in court over the violence.

Barricades were set on fire, luxury shop windows smashed, and traffic lights uprooted on the celebrated avenue in Paris on Saturday as violent groups infiltrated much larger anti-government protests nationwide.

Day 10: ‘Yellow Vest’ protests continue across France with pressure on Macron to respond

On Monday morning as the “yellow vest” protests continued their fight against rising fuel taxes and declining living standards there were filtered road blocks in place across France.

Motorists could run into difficulty on roads in parts of the country including Brittany, particularly the Côte d’Armor, Morbihan and Finistere departments as well, in Normandy leading into the city of Rouen and also outside Le Havre and on the Tancarville bridge.

Also seeing road blocks in place to the east of Strasbourg and on the N66 in the Haut-Rhin department in eastern France and in Bordeaux there were reports of the entrance to a bus depot in the city being blocked.

With the famous avenue, the Champs-Elysées, looking like a war zone, the government is expected to respond to the protestors with Macron promising a “social pact” to help people pay for the supposed “ecological transition” as they change to greener cars and ways to heat their homes.

Measures will be announced after Monday’s cabinet meeting with the beleaguered President Emmanuel Macron due to explain his own response on TV on Tuesday.

Dell, Soros-backed Waypoint Leasing files for bankruptcy

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Waypoint Leasing Holdings Ltd, the helicopter leasing company backed by investment firms for billionaires George Soros and Michael Dell, said on Sunday it had voluntarily filed for bankruptcy in New York and planned to restructure.

Waypoint said in a press release it would use the Chapter 11 process to sell itself to a new owner and that a recent sales effort had garnered bids from “numerous parties.”

“Waypoint’s Chapter 11 filing is the next step in our holistic transformation strategy and will provide us with the opportunity to emerge with a stronger, sustainable and more competitive balance sheet,” Chief Executive Officer Hooman Yazhari said in a statement.

The Limerick, Ireland-based company, which has traditionally focused on transportation for the oil and gas sector, will continue to operate as it goes through bankruptcy and reduces leverage, according to the press release.
