I believe the Fed Gov't also took direct student loans in Commiecare, removing banks discretion over risk and allowing degrees/certifications in any ridiculous subject without regard of whether the loan would be paid back. Current outstanding student loans are around 1.5 trillion. We're eating that, of course.
