– About the Vernon C. Bain prison barge –

I'm the anon who located that by web search

But NO, I never asserted it is the same prison barge that your relative saw in Morehead City, NC. We still need to compare photos of both – not what color the paint job is because that could be changed – but size, shape, number of decks, location of windows and stairs, the basketball court on the top deck or none → basic photo comparison for identification.

If the Morehead City barge is different from the Vernon C. Bain that should be pretty easy to demonstrate. I haven't got the pictures.

Thanks

That was my post, anon.

I'm studying the photos now, and I don't think it's the same barge.

What do you think?

Colors can be changed but I think it unlikely that all the fencing on top would be changed out completely different.

Still need to see it from different angles to be sure and I am not sure, but my inclination is that it's a different barge.

Eyes on, anons? Confirm?

Shipfag looked for it last bread.

Here's the site:

https://www.marinetraffic.com/

Did not find it in Morehead City.

Did not find it by searching on the name Vernon C. Bain.

Shipfag said as a barge it might not even have an ID and a transponder; only the tug(s) that are moving it would be identifiable, and we don't have ID of the tug(s). And if it's a military op, there's no reason to think they would transmit position info anyhow.

>switch tugs

Yes because tug operators are local to a particular port, usually. To move larger ships in and out of a harbor or through a channel, where local knowledge is necessary. Of course they could hire long-distance tugs i suppose.
